I do this for fun so you shouldn't feel any obligation to donate, but here's a link if you want to. Donations of any amount are very much appreciated.

To brick or not to brick ... is there a CWM you suggest i attempt from?
EDIT: not to brick ... waiting patiently.

Any way I can flash this via Odin?

Don't do it. I made the mistake of trying to force Captivate's on mine and I'm bricked now. Just hang around and wait for CWM to officially come out for Infuse.

No. If I had the device I could make it Odin flashable, but there's no way that I know of to create/modify rfs images without a Samsung device.

Much appreciated! Debating trying this on my own but it seems smarter to at least wait for CWM.

you can mod3e recovery and it may flash through there. i will see if it is the same locations as the capitvae, it if is close then you can use a batch script in windows that will abd everything for you. otherwise it is pretty easy after you have root which is also done in a batch script from lost1 or with superoneclick root.

Yeah I have root all set, the problem is with no CWM is if I flash this and something doesn't work I have no way home. No other rom or backup to flash.

One of you should email Koush. He will work with you to get the info he needs to make a recovery for the Infuse.

Sounds like a good plan, will do. (done)

I have the device. I'm willing to make it if you provide me with the info to make it Odin flashable.

Yup I am pretty ambitious also.
Hoping for some progress on that front tomorrow.

It's a pretty tedious process so probably better to just wait for CWM.

I'm bricked myself so really, to only thing I CAN do now is wait for an Odin image. That's about the only reason why I'd want it.

P.S. Forget the quadrant score once you get this you can feel the power your device was meant to have. However I score in the 1500s.
And here I thought I tried every combination of things lol. I will give this a try once my childrens go to bed. How is that eclipse rom btw? Everything stable and working? If you have time will you provide links to all the necessary files. If not I can rewrite the OP for you with all of them in there.
I would greatly appreciate if the OP had links to all the necessary files. I'm dying to get the most out of this amazing device but this site is somewhat difficult to navigate even with the attempts to establish a template for naming threads.

I can't thank you enough if this works right lol.
And this thread is going to be sooooo useful to EVERYONE once them links are up.
I already had most of the files sitting on my drive where I have been trying every combination to get it working, but you sir have figured it out and I am infinitely thankful.
I'm on the galaxy S screen now, so it looks like everything is going to go well.
EDIT:::
And everything booted fine and the mount command displays my partitions as EXT4! Great job OP.

eclipse is awesome and stable. The only reason it has a bug or 2 (nothing major) is because the gb leak came like that. I am very picky and extremely happy with this setup. Now that im on this i will never return to ee4.:d

Ok another question:
Why would you want the new recovery (minus the md5 extension) on the SD card when you are using ODIN to push it to the phone? Wouldn't you want it on the phone? In the steps it says on SD.
Sorry I've never flashed kernels only roms so this is new for me.

The new CWM stays on your PC and you Odin it. You have to erase the MD5 extension for it to work. Just follow those steps exactly and you will be fine. The dev that created the CWM created it to be flashed thru Odin.

I understand that. I erased the md5 extension and it turned into a zip file. The instructions say on SD in the OP. That's why I was confused. So I shouldn't put it on the SD card, correct
EDIT:
It turned into a tar file when I deleted the extension, not zip

Important information:
- If you get to a point where you don't want to go any further, or things don't work, you can always flash the stock rom (extract the .tar.md5 from the zip) using Odin in your bootloader. Get that here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1755386
- Do not attempt this hack if you've disabled apps. Re-enable them first or use the stock ruu from above before attempting this. (You'll save yourself a bunch of time)
First off, you'll need some files. This basically flashes a custom system.img.ext4 which has your su binary. You then boot up and flash cwm or twrp
1. USB Drivers: http://tinyw.in/Fdoz
2. Odin: http://samsung-updates.com/Odin307.zip

4. Recovery image:
CWM Recovery 6.0.1.0: http://goo.im/devs/invisiblek/i535/recoveries/cwm-6.0.1.0-d2vzw.zip (unzip the recovery.img out)
Ok, lets get started....
1. Boot into Odin mode on the phone. Do this by powering off and then holding vol down, home and power to power on. Then press vol up to accept the disclaimer. Plug into your computer.
2. Fire up Odin (Heimdeil may work in linux, haven't tested) choose the PDA section and browse to wherever you downloaded rooted.system.img.tar then click flash. This takes awhile, be patient. Took me around 8 minutes to flash this.
3. It will auto reboot. It should boot up and thing should act mostly normal except that you'll be able to adb in and use su to take root
If you don't want a custom recovery, you may stop here. You are rooted.
Continuing on to get custom recovery on your device...
4. You'll need adb installed and working for this. If you don't know how, this isn't the thread for that. Open a command prompt and follow these commands:
<cd to the directory with the files you downloaded earlier>
(if you downloaded twrp8.img, use that instead of recovery.img in the commands)
Code:
adb push recovery.img /sdcard/
adb shell
su
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
reboot recovery
5. Profit

FAQ:
Q: It's not working!!! Keeps failing!!!
A: Try again. Turn the phone off (battery pull) and boot into download mode again
Q: Odin doesn't seem to be doing anything!
A: Be patient, it can take awhile sometimes. I've also noticed if you try to flash something, and leave the phone plugged in and try to flash something else it won't work. Unplug, then replug, then try flashing again
Q: Does this trip the flash counter?
A: No
Q: Can we flash custom kernels?
A: Not properly at this time. If we flash to our boot partition, we'll end up with this: http://i.imgur.com/Ci0gY.png We can still recover from this by booting into odin mode and flashing the stock boot.img, found here: http://goo.im/devs/invisiblek/i535/stock.kernel.tar

I wouldn't expect wonders but I'm using CM10 and it's definitely an improvement.
I just rooted and unlocked my tablet last night. Doing some reading atm and it looks like my next step would be to install CWM/ROM Manager and then go to town with the ROMs. My question though is what can I do without a Windows desktop/laptop? I'm currently deployed and forgot to bring my laptop charger. I had enough battery left to root my tablet and thats about it. Then I unlocked it with only the tablet. Do I need to use a computer for most ROMs? Or can I download them directly to the tablet and then install them? I've also got a Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0(stock/not rooted)...can that be used for anything that might require a desktop/laptop?
Is Goo Manager better than ROM Manager?
Do not use rom manager. You will brick your device!

You can use Goo but have to be rooted to do so.
Other way is fastboot. You'll need to be able to use a cmd prompt and have the adroid sdk installed.
Download the TWRP 2.3.1.0 version from the goo website (rename to twrp.blob) and use the following commands to to flash it whilst the tablet is in fastboot mode:
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery twrp.blob
fastboot -i 0x0B05 reboot

Thanks. I'll go with Goo Manager and TWRP. For my other question though is rooting one of the only things that requires to be plugged into a Windows PC? Atm I only plan to install a rom and probably the Data2SD mod when my microSD card comes in the mail. I don't have access to a PC since my laptop battery is dead and no charger.

I'm thinking one of my limitations will be formatting my microSD card if I need it to be a certain file system.

A couple of questions to add since I am in a similar situation with a new, locked tf700. I've read as much as I could about everything but I just want to be very certain of the order of things I have to do.
I'm on ICS (.26).
1. unlock
2. nvflash
3. update to jb (should i do .20 or .23?)
4. flash twrp
5. flash cleanrom
Is that all?
Or should I root in ICS and use OTA rootkeeper and use goomanager at JB?
Thanks for the help!

[Q] accidentally formatted Internal Storage - No OS installed!

Rooted my N5 yesterday and it was working fine. Then today, I was trying to flash the Camera app from Jinshu when I got stuck on the dancing circles screen... went back into TWRP recovery and, I think, accidentally flashed the entire internal storage...
I can still get into TWRP, but when I click reboot > system , I get a warning message "No OS Installed! Are you sure you wish to reboot?" :crying:
I am using a Mac and have the SDK etc. installed, but I don't even see the device as a USB device in order to try and figure out how to get the system files back on the device.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
A
You've got a few options...forgive me if you've tried any of these already...I'm just offering ideas for you to find one that works for you...
1) restore a nandroid backup if you have one
or
2) ADB sideload a zip for one of the roms in the development sections
or
3) ADB push then flash a zip from the development sections
or
4) Flash the factory images using fastboot

Download this ROM (Odex)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507861
Boot in TWRP, and either use adb sideload:
./adb sideload path_to_hammerhead_KRT16M_odex_signed.zip
or use adb push
./adb push path_to_hammerhead_KRT16M_odex_signed.zip /data/media/0
Then proceed with flashing it from recovery.
Yep, you have plenty of options so don't panic. Personally, I'd use this as an opportunity to teach yourself how to setup and use ADB and Fastboot commands to flash factory images. Once you teach yourself how to do this properly you will no longer get overly concerned when another situation like this inevitably occurs. This will be a learning experience that you will benefit from later on.
If you are on a Mac, follow THIS GUIDE to properly setup ADB/Fastboot for use. Then use THIS GUIDE to learn how to properly flash a factory image.
Thanks for your quick responses guys...
While I was searching, I found this site: liciousroms dot com slash nexus5_restore.html (sorry, cannot post URLs just yet!)
I was able to get the stock .img files from the download package for system, recovery and boot, and as you guys pointed out, learned the utility of fastboot to get the images onto the device
Recovered, booted, and just getting back in business.
Thanks so much !!!

For other folks that will run into this problem, note that TWRP 2.6.3.1 supports USB OTG. You can load a ROM into an sd card, plug it into the USB OTG cable and then into the phone and TWRP will mount it.

1) I wouldn't download stock images from any websites other than official. People could bake in all kinds of stuff. There's no need for other sites to re-host official stock images, so there's usually a reason why they would.
2) I mean no offense by this, but if you're unsure enough in what you're doing to accidentally format the entire internal storage then you should do a lot more research before attempting this stuff. This is reversible, your next accident might not be. I don't ordinarily assume, but judging by your username and the accident you've committed I'd assume you're fairly young...so blowing another $400 on a new device because you bricked this one from a mistake is probably a big deal. Take some time and understand, completely, what you're doing.
3) That being said, Nexus devices are made to be open. They're made for people to modify and have fun with. Explore and experiment all you want, just make sure to have a good NANDROID backup before you do.

Good point. I'll reflash to the openrecovery-twrp-xxx version shortly anyway, but the point is valid and I'll make sure to have an official image and regular NANDROID backups handy for future experiments

None taken. I'm not really young, just new to Android/ tinkering. In any case, blowing $400 on a device is still a big deal and I want to avoid that like a plague Alas, youth has no monopoly on stupid.

For other folks that will run into this problem, note that TWRP 2.6.3.1 supports USB OTG. You can load a ROM into an sd card, plug it into the USB OTG cable and then into the phone and TWRP will mount it.

Thanks for the info. I have a USB-OTG cable on order (for a different purpose), and this is good for future reference.

I have the factory image on my computer but I can't get it to push to my phone. My ADB driver are installed but my phone wont mount from the USB in TWRP.

Boot into boot loader and use the flash-all.bat that's inside the factory image. Unzip it using 7-zip. You'll see it in there. Boot into bootloader, plug your usb cable in and run the bat file
Edit, you'll lose everything on your phone

Rooted NK2 AT&T t337a w/ Tutorial

******UPDATE FIX YOUR T337A WITH LOLIPOP FRIMWARE FILE******* I do not take credit for this file at all, all credit goes to MichaelSaya. Here is a direct quote from him "Here is the link to my Google drive with the Official Lollipop Firmware for the AT&T TAB 4, SM-T-337-A https://mega.nz/#!0Q4AXQgZ!Df-pTUo6eA80kGTrzpYCAJ0ilGbUzMYCE4nRtvume6s Place in AP slot in Odin and flash. Be aware that many have been bricked. Only root with Kingroot and when you reboot, you will lose root. Simply re-root with Kingroot and you will be fine. DO NOT REPLACE KINGROOT WITH SUPERSU!!!!! YOU WILL BRICK!!!!! But we have the firmware now so we can now play around knowing that if we mess something up, we can fix it."
I found a way to re-root the t337a with the latest OTA NK2. Not sure if I was the only one in this boat or whatever but I got bored and started experiment. First thing i did was Flash the older NF4 kernel with ODIN. Put this in the PDA slot and flash! It was successful, I downloaded Towel root, and bam! Root working again ! Cheers!
Tutorial:
1. Get the latest drivers to make sure everything goes smooth http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.c...NG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_v1.5.45.0.exe
2. Get Odin if you don't have it yet: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1168421
3. Download the NF4 kernel from the attachment below
4. Go into Odin.
5. Click on PDA, search for the file you downloaded boot.tar and select it. Pic: http://i.imgur.com/XrqVPLZ.png
6. Now, put your tablet into download mode! If you don't know how to enter download mode go here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDE1oB2-nYw its the s5 but same concept.
7. Plug in your tablet and it should say something like this in message window in odin: http://i.imgur.com/uWFc4YX.png
8. Now, hit start. Let the process run. If all goes well it should say RESET! I dont know what happened to this pic lol http://i.imgur.com/AbH5qW7.png but hopefully you get the point.
9. Give the tablet a few minutes to boot. Keep it plugged in until you see PASS! http://i.imgur.com/eTuHDUl.png
10. Go get towel root. Run it. And BAM! You are rooted again
*** WARNING *** This doesn't work with the lolipop update. I have tried to downgrade my tablet and it did softbrick it. Do not try to downgrade your tablet/try this method if you are running lolipop 5.1.1. This only works on kitkat. HOWEVER. I have the lolipop boot.tar. Use the instructions above to unbrick your tablet (This will not give you root access. I'm going to look at it and see if I can figure something out to get root access). I have not tested this myself because mine is at a friends house BUT this should work. Cheers

Hi,
Neat ! so if the older kernel was compiled before towel root's october deadline [i think it was october] when that vulnerability
was closed then that would make sense. :good:
so the rom run just fine with the older kernel ?
could you post the older NF4 kernel/boot.img and modules ?
thanks

Absolutely! Heres the thing. I cant post links yet. Is there anyway i can pm itnto you and idk you set up a post? Or is there another way

Yeah you indeed do have the wrong device, however if you want i can upload the NE1 kernel (first kernel for the t537a). However... i have not tested it for this device. It should be the same concept but im not 100 percent sure it will work. Do you want to at least try? Ill post it in my next reply if you are interested in giving it a go.

CocaFoca,
hi, this is off-topic but, do you have a working recovery for the 337a yet? Or a lead on unlocking it?
I've alternately tried to mod safestrap and actually build it from what sources Hashcode had up
but no dice.
on the odin image, it may have been packed wrong,
run this script in the same directory as the boot.img
#!/bin/bash
tar -H ustar -c boot.img > boot.tar
md5sum -t boot.tar >> boot.tar
mv boot.tar boot.tar.md5
odin complains about the md5 sometimes so you can skip
the last line, it will still flash.

I unfortunately do not. I do believe I know why safestrap isnt workin SElinux wont disable at all for me... Tried booting safestrap for different att phones and it woulndt stick always said not active. I believe we need to find a way to make it permissive then it will work? Tried the one on the market didnt work. I did get one to make it permissive but it reset after reboot :/ im just a newbie at this stuff but tbh I want to learn. Anyways... Im interested in this... Will look into it tomorrow

Coca,
ok you may need selinux enabled busybox, check this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...de-busybox-snapshot-building-android-t2857650 , the OP is a good read the links are a ways down, i've tested out both versions and they seem square.
my last thought is to replace the two distinct busybox binaries in safestrap, busybox and bbx, my attempts with safestrap
end up rebooting to my actual recovery if that provides a lead. the version i chose for modding was Galaxy S4 (ATT) [JFLTEATT]

I'm not sure what happened CarlDinAZ but I had the same specs on my Tab 4 I just got through an upgrade from AT&T and after following the tutorial by Coca using the boot.tar he provided for the T537A and then rooting with towelroot I can confirm that it does work for this model.
Thanks for the boot.tar and tutorial Coca!

Just had a had a thought, maybe we could tweak a twrp version for say the t-mobile version and try to code safestrap into that and make it boot on our t337a? Recently had the need for a recovery and I want to help get it working! Do you think there is any chance with the one linked here?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-4/general/sm-t235-lte-rooted-twrp-2-8-alpha1-sm-t3027059
