HTC Arrive/7 Pro differences - HTC 7 Pro

Hi all,
I wanted to buy a cover for my phone... Oddly enough, the latest release of the phone has the biggest variet of covers (HTC Arrive). So I bought one assuming everything would be the same (bar the larger sd card which is of no relevance to the case).
Found out the hard way that the camera and flash position are centred. And the mini usb slot is at the very bottom, not a bit higher.
Anyone have any ideas why they would move things?
Curious if there are any other differences...

The radio in the Pro7 is different than the Arrive. It's possible that the shape/size was different and so they needed to re-arrange other things to position it properly?
This is just a guess..

Weird difference two Himalaya's

I have here two Himalaya's, both branded Qtek, both model PH10B, flashed with the same WM5 ROM, same radio version, same version information, same hardware information and so on. Just a different IMEI of course. First striking difference is that one is strikingly brighter than the other with identical backlight brightness settings.
But even more strange is that they behave totally different. After good results with ROM Unlock/Unhide and DOCtool I did the same with the second one and it started behaving like a brick after DOCtooling. The good news was that it allowed entering bootloader and after reflashing it did allow reformatting.
Next I tried to run O2PhonePlus on that strange behaving (but very bright) one and it looked great after every first dialed number, but crashed after every second number.
These devices behaved identical, apart from the screen brightness, under WM2003.
Anyone has any idea what might cause this?
htc dont make lcd's they oem lcd's from various vendors
thats the reason for the diff in contrast/brightness and such
the other stuff could be a bootloader version issue
ph10b and ph10a
all abut hima.
maybe it other motherbord etc ?
both ph10b
I bought them both dead with broken LCD, bought two new LCD's from Ebay from the same vendor. I didn't switch them on till the casings were fully screwed back together and it's not tempting to open them again to check for minute differences between the PCB's. Actually I use mine (the darker one) at about 50% brightness, my friend who uses the ultra bright one uses even lower backlight. Although it is puzzling, it's not a problem but a feature.
The bootloader is slightly different, yes, I noticed that. Mine shows the three Yes/No/No questions after flashing on an almost black screen, the other one shows these questions on the Qtek clouded sky logo screen. But can a bootloader really make such a huge difference in software compatibility? It would explain why I see in very much threads on this forum that people report different behaviour of their hima's.
OTOH the differences are so big that you could compare it with two identical brand new HP desktop computers, identical processors, ram, harddisk, motherboard, just another BIOS version, one of which able to run Autocad, the other able to run MS Office but neither able to run both...

new to htc. please advice

i own a htc touch cruise for about 10 days. after reading some of this forum's threads i still have 3 things to ask:
1. how do you clean your cruise? not only the screen, i mean the whole case. i've heard that some people have had problems with the paint on the case so i am trying to be cautious.
2. i couldn't have noticed that the volume button has an extremely bad build quality and is hard to operate with one hand. is there another way of silencing the phone while ringing without rejecting the call? i was thinking about AE Button Plus. can you sugest another way?
3. i tried to modify the FingerPressure in the registry but not only that i haven't seen any improvement (even after restart), but the default value was different from the one stated on this forum (around 2600 instead of 2908)
thank you. hope you'll have some answers for me.
For no.3, no problem at all, go ahead and change it to 10892
Mine also come with only 2600 initially. My friend used to tease me why dragged the screen (in camera album) so hard........
Yeah I remember one of the initial reviews stated that paint chipped off. There was a thread about this somewhere if you search for it, but if I recall correctly the consensus was that nobody had paint chip off their phone.
The people who complained about the paint chipping off got a preproduction device for initial review... and was even flimsier then ours...
10x to you all.
it turns out that you can indeed remap the volume function to another button. unfortunatelly after installing icontacts, aebuttons, igo 8 (for gps) and pocketCM keyboard i found out that my earpiece and mic don't work any more... i guess this is caused by igo but i'll do a hard reset and see.
EDIT: it's permanent. it doesn't work even after hard reset. stupid htc.
the plastic is colored black, there is no paint that can be chipping off
2&3 are true, the reg hacks don't make it any more sensitive, just changes when it thinks finger vs stylus.
TC has audio shielding problems too

cameraless Version

does anyone know if there is / will be a cameraless version of the Touch Pro? Or any of the newer phones that is... Treo Pro, Omnia, Diamond, etc... I'm still stuck at Hermes level by Cingular. Does AT&T still make versions without cameras?
Why do you want a camera less version? Why not just get the normal one and not use the camera?
Because he works in a place (or goes to a school) where camera's are prohibited, due to there being sensitive documents (or children) about.
Maybe it helps, when you put a piece of sticky tape on the camera chip under the cover disable camera icon in album, turn off touchflo and delete camera shortcut from programs,so all access to camera app will be disabled. If someone will ask,if you are able to take pictures with it,just give him for a test to take the picture. Or make a small triangle from black plastics and stick it on the alluminium one. Yes,but what with the 3G camera?
Thats correct. A place where cars are around that noone has seen yet. A camera would cost me my job, not even a cameraphone with deactivated camera is allowed. So the AT&T (or until now Cingular) phones where great, because I could show them, they are *manufactured* without camera (though I know the modul is just pulled inside and a black cover where the lens was). Of course it's a real pita to find those on ebay, and from someone that ships to germany too
Mercedes, BMW or Audi I wonder
@TomasNM: in case they ask, I have to prove that the phone was manufactured without camera, i.e. you can order or buy it somewhere. Of course I can fake the camera be gone, but when I have a HTC something for example, I need to be able to show that there is one without camera (like nokia E51 for example).
@NLS: Audi.
there's quite a demand for phones without camera, but it's more or less ignored by companys. Only one so far besides Nokia I know is Cingular, and that was only because they couldn't get their video network to work
Yes,I was in april at BMW in Germany for a bussinesstrip. Everywhere is taking photos strictly disallowed, but I needed some to take(of ours machine for documentation),so I just did it with Olympus camera, not only with HTC Hurricane(my bussiness phone). Everybody thought,I am crazy, but I didn't care. Hahaha. Sorry La....ut. Anyway, our machines are for the welding of already-known parts of BMWs and my pictures was without those parts,so no secret things goes out(if someone wants to ask).
BMW is quite easy on cameras, and in Audi manufacturing part noone cares also (everyone I know that works there has a cameraphone). Though I work in the technical development area, and it's quite different there... There are several cases of termination of work contract...
Considering how difficult it is to get a phone now that doesnt have a camera. Cant you just explain the situation with your boss?

Pictures, or it didn't happen!
LOL, J/K
What about physically removing the camera and making a little cover to cover the hole. Ive heard of people doing that. Ive also heard there are companies that will do it for you if you don't have the skills. When I worked at 3M it was worse,we simply were not allowed to have phones of any kind in the plant at all. At our plant,we had could have them in the offices,up front but not in the actual manufacturing facility.
If I did that with say,my mogul,I think I would get one of the 3rd party extended batteries with the cover that doesnt have the markings that indicate there is a camera. That way,I would have a phone, with no camera, and a little plastic or rubber plug over a hole, where there is no camera. (rubber plug might be better, that way if someone really thought there was a camera, you could pull out the plug and show them, nothing there. )
There will be a cameraless version, why is everyone douvting it? The 8125, 8525, and Tilt all have had cameraless counterparts.
I'm not doubting, I have asked the bad thing about it, is you have to wait ~2 generations of phones until they pop up on ebay....
(and explaining such a situation to the boss of 30.000 ppl that you maybe saw once on TV is a bit difficult)

There are some Qteks around, with pushmail and everything, but only for upper management. They just have a sticker on the camera, but they are registered with numbers. Also there's a department that has camera phones in an isolated area, those are the ppl that work on bluetooth in the car etc., but again everything registered. Since I'm external, i.e. working for a company that works for that company, there's no way to get in a situation to be *allowed* to have a secured camera phone.
I the case of the Touch Pro there are 2 cameras that need to be removed / disabled, making it even more difficult to do oneself to the satisfaction required.
Ill send you my Nokia 2110.... and in return I get a pic of the RS8?
no need for the nokia

Polaris Scroll Wheel \ D-PAD Broken :( Need Advice

If anyone knowledable on anything that pertains to my problem could help me out I would be very grateful..here's the scoop..
I have had my polaris for over a year now (out of warranty) and for the longest time I've had issues with the touch screen not responding correctly and having to re-calibrate it all the time. I finally figured out what the issue was yesterday after I hard reset the device and the screen was still messed up...I had been using a dock for this device that isn't manufactured very well -- using the dock day in day out for a few months at work actually bent the pins on the USB connector on the cruise to the point where some of them were touching each other (yikes!)
So, I gave the phone to my dad who's an engineer, he took it to work and used a microscope or whatever and some tools and got the pins back straight again..now the screen works fine! Needless to say that dock is in the garbage now. The brand was "BoxWave" -- stay away from their products, they are JUNK!
Anyways -- I still have a problem with the scroll wheel.
Spinning the wheel does not work at all -- the Up, Down, and Left buttons work when pressed, and the wheel does light up, but spinning it doesn't do anything. Also the Right button doesn't work either. The button in the middle works okay. All of the working buttons cause the light to go on.
The logical conclusion here to me anyways seems to be that the bent pins caused permanent damage to the scroll wheel...I'm very glad it didn't cause perm. damage to the screen (or anything else, so I hope!!)..but anyways -- what would be the best option for me at this point?
Call HTC and have them fix it and pay out of pocket?
About how much would they charge for something like this (ballpark)?
My dad is a very skilled electrical engineer -- he would be willing to take it apart and fix it for me at work..he's got all the tools and stuff for it and doesn't mind at all...what parts should I look into ordering?
Thanks for any help anyone can provide here.
Hi,
I have a similar problem the up, left, right and turning the wheel does not work on my polaris either and I have not damaged it whatsoever. So, i do not think your button problem is because of a possible short circuit. But, sorry to tell you but I do not have a solution to the problem.
I thought I was certain, but occaisonally my screen still dies.
Perhaps it was permanently damaged? It is much better than before though -- but no matter what I do -- the wheel spinning does nothing, and the Right key does nothing at all.
Do you have any clue what part we would need to get replaced?
I am looking to replace the screen as well due to scratches.
I believe it's called a "digitizer" (the screen part not the wheel)
No, sorry. But if you do find out let me know as well.
Thank you.
found this on ebay
Hi,
Guys I found this on eBay. It says it can repair this kind of issue. Although I do not have the time to test.
So, here it is
http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-Touch-Cruis...ries?hash=item19b5e3f64f&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
P.S. if anyone does test this please give us your feedback. Thank you
What?
Did you post the wrong link or something?
That is a SIM card.
This thread is about the scroll wheel \ DPad.
EDIT:
Nvm, I see in the auction it says its a ribbon or something.
I dunno about this one...but it's cheap.
I still have not even gotten around to repairing my screen \ usb port though...god damn money.
If i order this ill let u know.
OK so I just purchased a new charge port and digitizer, but I have yet to see ANYONE selling a replacement scroll wheel.
Alot of people are selling the "housing" but it's missing the wheel!
Anyone know where to get a replacement metal panel and wheel only, not the entire housing?
I found a jog wheel for the shadow -- wonder if it would fit?
I have the same issue, the jog wheel doesn't work and neither the right button, but everything else works & lights up the keypad part....strange that this is 3 of us with the EXACT problem, maybe there's something we need to figure out? btw, i used to hardly use the buttons, but i used the jogwheel a lot to scroll.
I also have the BoxWave dock, however, i've found mine to be of great quality & use...reading your post made me paranoid so I checked my usb connecter over & over but thankfully everything looks very normal.
I came across this post, because I was actually looking for some user advice on replacing your own housing & wheel. I already found the entire housing & keypad on ebay that comes with the screwdriver set, and i have the manual to assemble & dissassemble.
I would rather do it myself so i wouldn't have to do without my phone while waiting for this to get repaired, but i also don't want to do it if it's very tricky with a big chance of busting phone, so i'm looking for a feel of easy-medium-hard. I've already done something similar 3 years ago to my I-Mate Jamin as well as replacing the speaker, so my technical skills are probably around mid-level.
Anyways best of luck, i'll update this post later to tell you how it went (this could be in 2 weeks time from now).

Housing including the jog wheel and electronics?
I also ordered a usb connector and apparently they sent me one that isn't compatible with the cruise...I think I am just gonna buy a broken one and get the parts from it..they seem to be rare compared to other HTC models!

I had the same problem but on a 2 year warranty Touch Cruise. Phone was fixed and re-installed with WM 6.1
Know I face Bluetooth connection problems again and the BT hotfix is not accepted anymore.
I do have to say that the upgrade after re-installing should have been left behind.
I have the same problem... Scrol wheel not working en button to the right
anyone ever fixed this?
Hey Guys!
I've got the same problem with the wheel and the right button. So I was wondering if anyone fixed the problem?
I have no warranty anymore
I think I know what's your problem, mates.. It seems that it is essential for almost any P3650 - the cable, which is going from the jog wheel to the keyboard control unit tears apart just before (or exactly at) the copper pads on the molex thingie, that plugs into K/B unit (damage is so slight, that it barely can be seen).
I had no luck looking for the jog wheel sold seperately from housing, or at least with that plastic-chromed buttons cover. If anyone finds out that it is possible to obtain it seperately - I would greatly appreciate
Btw, same problem goes for sim holder's cable - I have replaced mine 2 times already (you can get 'em for around 15$ from ebay).
Sorry for my english - it's a bit rusty atm
Same problem here..wheel doesn't function can't find the part by itself ..
Touch Cruise jog wheel & keyboard
Exact same here - jog wheel scrolling broken & right selection does not work. Besides, my "call" key stucks time to time.
So for now I've just got both of them - jog wheel and keyboard (not the entire housing) from ebay, 15 & 7 $ respective
wheel ordered from the following ebay location :
cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rt=nc&nma=true&item=260656153778&si=1E2jM09T8qOM9DzM6uzrXo5Qiqg%253D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT
same provider has keyboard also, for some reason it is not on eBay active items. But you can contact the seller and ask for it.
I gonna replace both in a near future, and will update about the result.

How to fix Galaxy S4 "Sim card removed" error

I'm sure plenty of you have had the dreaded "Sim card removed" error (as shown in the attached image) on your S4. I started getting this message mere months after purchasing my secondhand AT&T S4 (no warranty). But fear not, with about 20 minutes of your time and less than a dollar worth of parts, you can fix it!
(1st attached pic)
Why Does This Happen?
This error is usually due to a faulty connection between the motherboard and the SIM / MicroSD card tray. Likely it is due to a bad solder job on that connector.
Does a new SIM Tray fix it?
Extremely unlikely. Purchasing a new SIM tray will likely be wasted money. (EDIT: A new motherboard may fix the issue, and several people have had success with a new SIM tray)
How do I fix it already??
This is what you'll need:
Your S4
A micro Philips-head screwdriver
Scissors
A foam earplug (or something of similar texture)
Step 1: Disassemble your phone. Pull off the back cover, remove the battery and cards, then unscrew all 9 of the micro Philips screws. Then, take your fingernail and pry off the bezel from the rest of the phone, and slowly work your nail around the bezel until it pops off. (Don't force it!)
(Attached images 2, 3, and 4)
Step 2: Use your scissors or a razor blade to cut a section off of the foam earplug which is about the width of two dimes. I also cut a 1/4 segment out of mine so you don't see it sticking out when you put the bezel back together, but you don't absolutely need to do that.
(Attached images 5 & 6)
Step 3: Press down on the connector for the SIM / SD Card Tray until it "clicks" into place. (It may not click if it is still somewhat in place) This is the connector which has a bad connection.
(Attached image 7)
Step 4: Place your piece of foam on top of the connector in a way that it is right beside but not overlapping the camera (as pictured)
(Attached image 8)
Step 5: Replace your back cover, making sure not to move the foam you just installed, press down on it in multiple locations until it pops back together all around, and screw it back down. Note: if the bezel appears to be bulging out, your foam is too thick! This won't cause any problems, but it will be a noticeable bulge on your phone.
(Attached images 9 & 10)
Step 6: Replace your back cover and enjoy! Note that if you continue to receive the error, you may need either a thicker piece of foam, or you may need to reposition the foam, or even just press down on the connector a bit more before installing the foam.
Thanks to the folks over at Android Central in the thread entitled: Galaxy S4: Major problem - SIM card not detected for info on how to fix!
After applying this fix (took me three times to get it right) I have not seen the SIM card removed error in almost two months!
Post your success stories!
EDIT: A year after I posted this, and people are still using this thread to iron out their issues. I'm glad I could start up a conversation about this problem, with many good suggestions as to possible fixes. I don't use my S4 anymore, but it makes for a great backup phone!
Anyway, I just wanted to let anybody who is looking for the answer to this problem know that my fix may or may not work for you. It worked in my case, but several commenters have noted that the problem has remained in their situation. I would like to point out a few helpful comments and possible fixes right here so you guys don't have to go searching through pages of comments to find different solutions.
Best solution by far is by @Gonemad to re-flow the solder to that connector and to the NFC chip using a heat gun. See post #98 on page 10 and Post 114 on page 12, with a guide on post 122, page 13.
A replacement motherboard may fix the issue as well, but that's assuming you're getting a new one and not a used one. With used, the replacement board may do the same thing!
many of us have shimmed the connector 1000 different ways and still get the error. oddly enough, for me the only thing that has reduced errors was removing my sd card.

That's interesting, and a shame. There's not enough room on my phone for all my stuff, I need that extra 32gb!
"Does a new SIM Tray fix it?
Extremely unlikely. Purchasing a new SIM tray or even a new motherboard will be wasted money."
It did in my case. I got a sim/sd card tray from a Verizon S4, put it in my AT&T S4 and it worked great!
This problem is extremely annoying. Purchased a new tray too, and for a couple of days thought the problem is fixed. Nope. 5 days later same stupid message. I had already tried putting more support on the connector which did not fix the problem. They could at least make a cancel button on it instead of just "reboot". Will try without sd card. Apparently this happens on ALL high-end samsung phones. I am adding crapsung to the "never again" list (in addition to LG now).
If removing sd card doesn't fix it then it will either be new mainboard (they go for around $100 CAD shipped) or a new phone if I have the money. Nexus 6 looks good now. Don't buy crappy Korean brands. Even Chinese brands seem more reliable.
Question: Since you say that you've already replaced the sd/sim tray and the problem returned, did you try putting another sim card in there to make sure that it's not the sim card that's the issue?
Yes, new sim did not solve it. Now i am actually trying earplug thing. So far so good (2 days), but as with any other method the message is expected to pop up again. I am thinking i did try to add support before, but only for the connector part. Earplug will press on all the components around the connector and the connector itself. Will see. I did cut out a thicker piece than in the OP, and made a cut on the camera side instead of oppoate (like in OP).
Buyimg new mainboard seems like a waste of money now too. Since so many devices have this problem chances are another mainboard will be the same.
Edit: with or without sd card - same thing.
It's known that the IMEI numbers with the last 6 digits in this range: 000000 - 560000 have been known to have this issue. Mine was in that range and had the issue. I think the mainboards outside this range are fine.
Mine is not in that range.
Thanks a lot
It took me quite a few tries with the earplug foam to get it right. Finding the correct thickness and shape was the biggest thing. Eventually I got it right and I haven't had the issue return even once since. I'm glad some of you were able to get your phones to work by just swapping the SIM tray, that's pretty easy to do. I don't think I would even consider swapping the motherboard on a 2 year old phone, might as well just get a new phone at that point.

Good to hear that this is working for some users. I just went with the M9 about a week ago and am going to give my mother my S4. She wouldn't have any idea how to handle any sim errors so when I get some time, I'll be buying an earplug or two.
It has been 9 days and the error hasn't returned. Today i put in a thiner peice to get rid of the bulge on the back. Will see how that holds up, but so far so good. Thanks to the O.P.
As for the mainboard - I never loxk myself into a contract with a discounted phone, not that Wind Mobile Canada has an option for it. So i paid almost 600 CAD for this puppy and expected it to last. For me $100 is not bad for a fix compared to at least $600 for a new phone. Only if it was for sure, but is seems like a gamble to buy a new board. BTW my phone was locked to rogers so I had to unlock it and enable AWS band.
I would get(have tried other phones) but for all its bad the S4 is hands down the most durable and usable phone I have ever owned. I like my nexus 5, but it is a very fragile unit, and on its second screen replacement due to minor drops that the S4 takes with aplomb. I like the phone so much I have bought a used one off ebay just in case this one ever fails. MHO

I'm right there with you. I still love my S4, despite the SIM error and somewhat slow updates from Samsung / ATT. It's getting older but my phone is still very fast, has a beautiful 1080P AMOLED screen, takes awesome pictures, and now it's even running Lollipop! The only thing that might convince me to switch phones anytime soon is if the 2015 Nexus 5 refresh has a 5" - 5.2" screen (5.5"+ is just too big!), USB Type-C and the specs blow me away. Since that probably won't happen, it looks like I'll be using my S4 for a few more years.
I don't have these earplugs foams at home.. Which other material can I use for that?
I can't say anything else will be the same material. Just buy earplugs at a dollar store or something. They are cheap.
Mine had gotten really bad, to where it was giving the "sim error" message a good six or eight times a day. Did the earplug thing...didn`t fix squat. I took a narrow strip of a business card and "shimmed" the sim card in it`s slot (like many others have), but I made my shim extra long and folded it over a few times on top of the sim card receptacle as well. Been two days and so far so good. We`ll see how it holds up.
I had actually contacted Samsung about the problem and they claimed they had no knowledge of it`s occurrence. I emailed back and they said "we really have no idea what`s causing it. Sorry." I would call it a design flaw as every single person I know personally with an S4 has the problem, and there are hundreds upon hundreds of tales on the ol` internet about it, and even Samsung can`t fix it.
I've used this solution after my s4 gave the "sim card removed" error 5 times this morning. I used a piece of power sponge i.s.o. an earplug. Since then no error. If error occurs i'll respond again.
Thanx Sean.
I was having this problem. I did this fix but just used some folded up plastic wrap. Hasn't happened again yet.
