[Q] Anyone try Google Docs app on the Transformer? - Eee Pad Transformer Themes and Apps

As stated in the title. Google just released an app, anyone see how nice it works on this machine?

Just downloaded it and it works fine.
I dont necessarily think its optimized for Honeycomb or anything by the looks of it, but it works just fine.
Polaris Office which comes standard on the Transformer works fine as well for doc editing and links to Google Docs.

As a clarification, do they work in donut as well? And with navigator intact? Also, any chance someone can host some of the more important .apk's? Facebook and maps/navigator come to mind.
Really wanted turn-by-turn working. Tried pushing Maps, Dock, CarDock and MotoNav.
Maps works fine
Dock and CarDock are not found in the launcher.
MotoNav starts and asks me to 'Insert your MotoNav SD card.'
Starting to think its more difficult than just pushing some apks
Confirmed: FB & Maps work.
@Marcus: I switched to Cyan's 4.2.x.x Donut & pushed them. They work fine. I haven't tested the nav, but they work atm.
The only one Ive tried is facebook(ran out of time)...maybe we can get a list going of what works?

Maps works in donut (latest CM), but does NOT have navigator. About screen shows version 3.2.0 (#3232). Facebook works fine.
I got the moto personal phone portal to install. Im guessing one has to download the pc software too?!

Just pull the apps out of the DUMP. I am trying it on 2.0 so far they do indeed work.

[Q] Google doc app in Market

Can Somebody try the app out on the transformer? And is it optimized for honeycomb?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Ive read in reviews there is alread an app on the tablet pre installed that is compatible with google docs
It is not optimised for tablets, essentially it's just the website in a browser window.
greetz
Thanks for the notice on this new application. From the comments on the market it doesn't look like it is optimized for tablets, but I'm interested to hear from current Transformer owners on how it functions.
Talks about the pre installed one here http://www.anandtech.com/show/4277/asus-eee-pad-transformer-review/8

"If you supply your Google login credentials you can edit/save documents stored in the cloud."
Excellent.
I wouldn't say excellent. Google Docs is much more than storage. I hope Google will fix the Android browser to be able to work with Google Docs without any apps. Dual booting Google Chrome OS would be great too.

It is indeed just opening the docs up in a browser. At first I had a login issue because it hadn't passed authentication yet and I briefly saw the Google Docs mobile login site on it. It has the exact same functionality as if you had opened the Doc up in the browser. It's just a pretty interface to the Google Docs site
Just tried it on my eee pad. It works fine but as stated before it's not optimised layout-wise for honeycomb. Does what its meant to do though.
With the Google Docs app, you can take pictures of text and have it converted to an editable document. My question if anyone has tried it yet is this.......If you take a picture with text AND a picture, does it import the pic also?
I get my Transformer in the a.m. tomorrow, and if no one can answer this, I will try it when I get a chance and follow-up, in case anyone else is interested.

Most of these guys are kind of slow. There is an actual app that is not via the browser. I'm not sure if its optimized for HC but my guess is yes, why wouldn't they make it for all platforms. I used it today on my EVO so I'm positive it works on HC.
Yea it's a application in the market. I hope that's what people are responding about. Also the app works well on my g2 for whatever that's worth.

Could not find a way to edit existing docs - no edit button, while newly created and saved document can be edited. Also was able to edit spreadsheet loaded before

I think the confusion is that the front end of the Google docs app where you browse your docs is NOT from the web, it's an actual UI from the app itself. However, once you start viewing a doc or editing it, you are then basically thrown back into the mobile Google Docs webpage, which has very limited functionality.
What I'm saying is, don't expect it to replace a dedicated Office suite anytime soon...
I think on tablets Google Docs should work without problems in browser. That it does not right now shows that the browsers are very limited and similar web apps won't work neither.

Skype and Opera news

Apparently skype released a client for android that does video. Don't think our transformer is officially supported but it might work?
If someone can get the apk to test.....
Also opera updated the browser today also and now includes experimental flash support in honeycomb. Will try it out and get bak to you all. Since it works using different engine than stock browser perhaps flash performance will be better?
its working on TF
i installed on my dell streak and then to my TF looks great

When you say "it looks great"..do you mean the video is working?

Video calling was the point of this thread. We'll just put this down as freepal not understanding OP.
sorry guys i didnt mean the video calls i ment the new ui
the hacked skype over on the SGSII forums don't work for me
I can launch and install, but I can't log in
it just crashes without force closing (goes back to homescreen or whatever you were doing if you try loggin in)
Same here.
Can not login.
same. works on my Nexus S though
i too couldn't sign in but after going into applications>manage apps>skype and deleting the cache, data and then doing a reboot it signed me in fine, shame about lack of video though.
There was another Skype update today... I think we will get it sometime soon. I dona lot of Skype video for business and it would love to have it. Hell, the old N900 has had it for over a year!

Skype update just installed on my TV.
No video but UX way better.

I tried Opera Mobile 11, but I have a problem since I can enter gmail in standard mode in opera, only html. I saw that google do not support opera, but is important to me to be able to use is, as an alternative to the native app. Another issue I saw is when opening the app, it will be to the foreground, and I have to change to it trough the task manager...
Can you help me overcome the first and/or noticed the second?
Still nobody got Skype to work on the TF?
On the homepage there was friday a second post about Skype, saying it would work on other devices so im hoping the TF was one of them.

the hacked apk won't allow me to log in at all on the TF
official 2.0+ apk works though...no video though
Forget about the hacked APK. If you wipe cache and data you will get in and still no video. Just install 2.0. Now that Microsoftis behind Skype, I wouldn't be surprised to see updates more frequently. They added Nexus support overnight.

[Q] VMWare View

Does anyone have the new VMWare View Client apk that can be posted?
I had to root my Transformer for the proper VPN access I needed, now the Market says this application is not compatible with my Transformer.

Many thanks!
I had been using the Wyse PocketCloud Pro application, but this client is so superior. Little slower to connect, but once connected, it is twice as fast with twice the resolution.
If you are connecting to a VMWare remote desktop, this is absolutely the application to use!
Thanks for posting this!
Teamviewer is even better imho. And supports VPN aswell.
installed on my HTC HD2 Android, works
hey man the dropbox link is not working. say page couldnt be found
Anyone have an opinion on how well this works versus Splashtop?

comixology

Does comixology work for anyone anymore? i'm trying to figure out if it's something they did or the new roms or just mg tab. It used to work for me but recently tried using it again and all it does us FC immediately. I've flashed all Roms to no avail. If it still workx for you can you post what rom you are on?
I just checked for you. I'm running revolver and get no FC.
I've gone from prime 1.9 (not working) to Revolver 3.5 (still not working)
Comixology works fine for me. Running Revolver 3.5.2.

Yeah, I'm pretty ocd about my app updates. I'm on version 1.0.2. Downloaded and read a comic on it right now, no problems.
thats very odd. im on revolver 3.5.2 but have the same issue with prime and clems. odd that the beta works, oh well i dont really like reading with the app so im just gonna continue converting to cbr and reading with komic reader
Mystery solved! it's the new market combined with the google checkout feature comixology added. I uninstalled new market and now comixology works perfectly.
Paid Free Comics?
Is there anyway to read the paid comics in comixolog? Like paste the data in sd card and be able to read in the app or something?
Thanks...

I don't understand your question. I either buy the comic in their app or on their website (using either chrome on my tablet or any browser on my laptop). I of course use the same account for both. I can read my purchased comics either through the web browser app or the comixology app. I can even use the web browser app with chrome on my tablet since I tried that just to see if I could. I much prefer their app on my tablet. The guided view technology as they call it for reading panel by panel works well even on my HTC Evo View 7” tablet although it's much nicer on the Transformer's large 10” screen.
If you are asking how to read some other comics with their app the answer is that you can't. It is only for reading their comics.
