Contract is (sorta) up...deciding between MT4g and EVO

I am going to post this in both forums. I think it will be an interesting read for each. haha
I'm on sprint. My Premier account is up and I can get a phone upgrade. I currently have a Hero and was going to get an EVO on Monday.
Because of the pro-rated ETF fees from Sprint, I can cancel my account for $120.
I watched several reviews for the My Touch 4g and was really impressed with the phone. The quadrant scores were cool to see. I realize that isn't the be all/end all but from the couple days of research I did on the phone, I am liking what I'm seeing.
I've read up on the EVO for several weeks now. I'm familiar with the phone and realize the amount of user support it has. I am 'pro root' so I would be looking for the root option in the future.
Price wise, T-Mobile and Sprint with WI-Max would be about the same cost to me each month.
With choosing to stay with Sprint I'd lose the Premier account status. I would have to sit with the MT4G for 2 years or buy out of pocket.
I'd be buying an 'older' phone but one that has a great user community. I'd probably be happy with the Evo until my next Premier renew date.
I'd have the Wi-Max network to use.
I'd have a better screen? I don't know yet as I haven't tried the MT4G at a store.
With choosing to go with T-Mobile I'd be getting a newer phone for the same price as I would pay for the Evo (ETF of $120 and I've seen the MT4G for sale for $80). Next gen processor.
I'd be losing screen real estate and the look and feel of the Evo which I've come to like.
I'd be losing the xda community support or the amount. I am sure the MT4G community will grow.
I'd be committed to T-Mobile for 2 years. I wouldn't be able to upgrade after 12 months.
***Coverage-wise, it's a tossup. I live in Minneapolis and have Wi-Max and from what I see on T-Mobile, HSPA+ is here too. A concern of mine is that when we travel back home (to eastern wisconsin) the coverage for T-Mobile is extinct. the website shows it using a different carrier. Sprint back home is 3g.
Not sure what I want to do. My friend who has an Evo looked at the MT4g and said he wouldn't switch based on looks. He hadn't investigated the phone in depth. Guess looks are important but I'm thinking a few other things that should weigh into the equation.
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts. I'll probably get fanboys from each forum but I'm sure there will be enough objective info to glean.

As you can see from my sig, I've had a decent amount of phones over the last couple years, and I can honestly say that the MT4G is my favorite of them thus far. Yes, even over the favored Nexus One. If the MT4G had "fastboot oem unlock" it would be perfect lol.
The big differences between the EVO and the MT4G is obviously the size and the newer hardware in the latter phone. Software can be swapped out at will, so if you don't like the mySense UI, give it some time and you can have your regular Sense or something like CM6. Hardware, on the other hand, can't be adjusted so if you pick the EVO you will always have the older Snapdragon and less memory. The screens on both of the phones are identical(as far as hardware is concerned), I believe, aside from the obvious size difference. The argument still rages whether or not the MT4G has SLCD or regular LCD(like the EVO). According to some reviewers, it's one. According to others, it's another. So, as far as hardware specs go, the question you need to ask is this: Do you want a bigger screen, but older internals? Or do you want a smaller screen(in comparison), but the latest and greatest?
On the topic of WiMAX: There was an article I read the other day saying that Clearwire, the provider of Sprint's 4G network, is cutting 15% of it's workforce to save money. This doesn't necessarily mean the company is in trouble, and most people speculate it's just Clear cutting costs to plan for the future. Your mileage may vary, but most reviews I have read have the HSPA+ of T-Mobile providing faster speeds than the WiMAX of Sprint.
On the topic of Community: Don't let the fact that the MT4G has a small community right now fool you. The phone hasn't even been out for a month, and we just achieved root the other day. When I moved from my G1 to the Motorola Droid, I was pretty unhappy with the tiny community that was supporting it and that was one of the (many) reasons I moved to the Nexus One as soon I was able. Now, the community is thriving. The same thing will happen here as more developers start getting this phone.

I've never had it and I don't like having to pay more a month for a phone that has it. My friend says that Minneapolis Wi-Max is about 8-8.9mb down. I don't expect that to be the same for me (I live about 15 miles away from where he works).
The cost of the plan with Wi-Max is the same as the cost of the HSPA+. Do I pay the extra money for Sprint or T-Mobile. Sprint's been good to me but it's not like they've been the most successful mobile communications company the last several years.

My recommendation to you is to stick with GSM carriers. They're much easier to work with. If you end up not liking the phone, and decide to sell it (or trade it), it's as simple as taking your SIM card out and putting the new buyer's in. When I sold my Droid, both me and my customer spent half a day on the phone with Verizon trying to convince them to let her activate it. They kept trying to tell us they couldn't release the phone from my now inactive account until the billing cycle was done, which was two weeks after I sold the phone.
I'd invite your friend over for a beer and borrow his EVO and see what kind of speeds you get out where you live. Speaking of, if for some reason, you actually don't have WiMAX where you live/work, you end up still paying the extra money for it regardless.
If you're worried about getting stuck with a phone you may not like for two years, why not buy it off contract? Yes, the upfront cost is higher but typically you end up spending less over a two year period than you would on contract. For instance, T-Mobile's "prepaid" packages are around $20 less than the postpaid. If you really end up not liking the service or the phone, throw it up on CraigsList or something similiar and try the other.

HSPA+, and T-mobile coverage in general, is a hit or miss in Minneapolis while Sprint is not too bad as far as I know. I mean, you will always have your voice connection but may be dropping to Edge quite often for data.
My suggestion: Start a new account with T-mobile, pick up MT4G with a different number and try it out for 2 weeks. If you like it - port your number to T-mobile. If you don't - return the phone and you won't loose much money.

Speaking as someone who broke his Sprint contract and sold his Evo (actually two of them) to switch to T-Mobile for the MT4G, I couldn't be happier.
That being said, the main driver for my decision was that Sprint still doesn't have WiMax in Indianapolis, and T-Mobile does have HSPA+. Sprint's 3G varies wildly here, and the places I was the most (work/home) had the worst signal/data speeds. Another thing about Sprint is it broadcasts on the 1800mhz channel which is known to have a problem penetrating walls.
I did love just about everything on the Evo. It's dev community is AMAZING. No Wimax or HDMI out on CM6 did suck though. And the gpu on the first gen snapdragon left a lot to be desired (like 27-29 fps on neocore).
Another thing to remember about Sprint is there is no data cap, whereas T-Mo has a 5GB softcap after which they limit you to a snail's pace.
I am very happy about my MT4G. The biggest differences for me are the improvement in network speeds (significant for me) and the increase of the gpu (the MT4G gets a 57-58 on neocore). Battery life is much better too.
I will say if I had WiMax in Indianapolis I would probably still be a happy Evo owner on Sprint, but they dropped the ball on that one.
Another point that might help, I recently read that after 3mpbs any increase in speed doesn't have a noticeable difference on webbrowsing unless you are downloading large files (maybe HD movies). What does matter is the pingback.

Myt4g all the way I know several people with the evo and myt4g runs laps around it. No joke google mytouch 4g vs evo and see for yourself

My father and brother both have the evo. Myself and a couple of co-workers(by my request) all have mt4g's. The mytouch is far superior. Sure, you're not getting a huge screen, but it seems to be the perfect mix of size and portability(read: pocketability), and there's no hdmi output(which I would never use), but come on....WIFI CALLING! How can you top that? You get service anywhere you can connect to a wifi access point. And that's on top of being super fast with the latest cpu offering from qualcomm. Everything about it is fantastic, even more so now that it's been rooted. I've been faithful to t-mobile for 8 years, and it's paid off. Their value can't be beat, and their devices just keep getting better. Did I mention the wifi calling?

My mom has the ego and now I have the my touch 4G so I have used both quite a bit.* If you are stuck on screen size, get the evo, though I think it is too big and that the mytouch or vibrant are perfect screen size wise.* But in my opinion screen size is the only plus of the evo.* The mytouch looks better physically imo.* Plus the mytouch version of sense does everything the evo version does plus more, and it looks nicer van that just bar at the bottom of the original sense.* So I would go with the mt4g.* Plus Sprint has terrible customer service and tmo is great.

I think I've worded myself wrong. Speeds are fine, the coverage is spotty.
My drive to work is less then 15 min (Hopkins to Bloomington/Richfield area) and I like to stream music on the go. My connection drops 2-3 times in that period every day. Every summer we go to Goose island on Minnetonka Lake. AT&T streams music fine there, all I get is Edge.
I could list many more examples but you get the idea. You have nothing to worry about though, you have 14 days to get back to Sprint in case you're not satisfied, I'm stuck with T-mobile for a long haul (4 lines, started service in 2001) since no other carrier can even touch what I pay now.

All you need to do is download aLogcat from the marketplace, set it to periodically save to your SD card(under Menu > Settings on the app), and let it run! Once you get your update, you can remove your app and send me the log in PM. It doesn't record any private information such as contest of text messages or emails or passwords so don't worry about that; rather it logs the background processes that runs the phone.
I know on my first device, I was caught up in the excitement of rooting and the idea of "Ah someone else will get it." On my new one, I've been running it since last Wednesday but haven't received my update yet. Once we have the link, everyone will be able to manually update if they have to change devices or don't feel like waiting for the OTA.

Jealous of Sprint new EVO?

Okay so i just left Sprint for Verizon to get the thunderbolt and was royally pissed off lol, but now i'm not. Okay, so i been on the fence contemplating going back to Sprint and decided not to. When i had my EVO (which i still do waiting to sell it), the support it got was amazing, but my 3g on it was sub-par. I live in New York, and i was seriously getting horrid connection. I even thought about all the graphic power the new one is getting, but then i said to myself "half the games in the market don't even use all that power", so isn't it redundant to desire such a powerful phone with so many games work fine on the thunderbolt? I mean, i sound like i'm trying to justify my switch, but just thinking out loud for anyone who feels the same as me. And what up with all the hate on the thunderbolt by Evo users? I thought the Android community was suppose to be together, some of them sound like whining Apple fanbois.

That's how it happens. It's called "latest technology". I argued with my girlfriends mom for about an hour.....

I am not jealous of the new EVO. The reason is two. First I have a moto xoom, so I have a powerful device with a screen big enough to enjoy the power. Second, like you said, is that Sprint is crap. I would have said the opposite a week ago, but I would have been in denial .
The EVO was better than the iPhone 2g/3g/3gs' and Sprint was better than AT&T that I had had for the 3 years prior. As such I was happy with the phone, which was somewhat crippled by the sprint network. The biggest thing I hated about Sprint, was they were INCONSISTENT. Didn't matter if it was peak or off-peak hours everytime I grabbed the phone I had no way of knowing if it would give me an efficient or inefficient experience. In the car I used a Wilson Sleek signal booster which made things like streaming over Pandora or Slacker consistent, but it's a cradle so its not idea for much more than that.
The thunderbird thus far has proven to be a better phone than the old EVO, but more importantly it seems to have hardware that works well on the network. Anyone with an EVO even in a strong 4G area can attest to the 30+ seconds it takes to get a 4G connection, and how it never seemed to come back if the connection in the area was less than idea. The one time so far that my EVO went to 3G, it went back to 4G almost immediately. I live in North Las Vegas, but my part of town has not been the Boonies for 20 years.
In summation. Even if Sprint "does it again" and releases a super friggin awesome phone, as the EVO was, it wont make up for their less than ideal network. Sprint is not bad per se, they just aren't great.

Well of course i know that, just bummed as soon as i jumped ship they release this haha. The obvious, of course, is that we will get something similar also, but just wanted to speak my mind for those who feel like me. I focused more on the specs in the original post, but i was also curious why almost every website i got on about the thunderbolt you have some uptight mad Evo user bashing it, quite comical and sad at the same time.
@setite the 4g on sprint was horrid, especially indoors.

I too left Sprint (of 5 plus years) for the TB... I am jealous of the Sprint's new EVO, but not their 2.5 GHz WIMAX.. If hey get their 800MHz frequency up and running with LTE or even move WIMAX there or maybe even WIMAX 2, then I shall return

This makes the verizon thunderbolt look like a STEP CHILD… Verizon wanted to have a hand me down product they got it. Everyone knows htc doesn’t do business with Verizon never and they got exactly what they wanted last year’s evo but the funny part is our current 10month old htc evo 4g is still better there isn’t even a toggle 4g switch on there device it just keeps runing and too top it off there bootloader is locked another verizon trick. verizon needs to get away from samsung i love my fascinate but samsung is sooooo bad with customer service since officially we are still on 2.1 but thanks to the devs i have froyo

I doubt it was anywhere as fast as AndIRC did it, first night=root, second night=unlock bootloader/custom recovery

Nice hardware is useless when the service is useless. I've been a Sprint customer forever but lately their 3G is useless and 4G coverage is spotty and slower than when it was first rolled out. The HTC Thunderbolt hardware is no comparison to Samsung Epic 4G, mainly AMOLED screen/CPU/GPU performance, but the superior LTE connectivity makes the hardware inferiority a small compromise.

I will never go back to Sprint ever after they treated me terribly when I complained about getting 1x speeds in the city of Chicago outdoors in an area marked "best indoor 4g coverage" on their map. With Verizon I get 4g anywhere indoors and don't have to stick my head and arm way out the window to get decent data speeds. And on Sprint the decent data speeds are literally 400kbps. see thread "data speeds, wtf?" in the Evo general forum.

I'm about ready to make the jump. I love my EVO but the data is very spotty, sometimes decent 5-6MB DL but quite often less than 1/2 meg. I live in a 4G city too.
Price is getting closer too. I have 3 smart devices...

Jumped from Nexus One to Thunderbolt

So what do you think, was this worth it. I think so.
This is what I weighed when I made my decision to switch: (impulsively maybe)
(1) Storage
Nexus One - 512mb (half taken up by OS), I provided a 16gb MicroSD (needing more, debated a 32GB for the past 4 months)
TB - 8gb, Comes with a 32gb MicroSD
(2) Network >
Nexus One - T-Mobile
TB - Verizon
(3) Monthly Bill >
Tmobile - Went up $10 three months ago to $130month
Verizon - 99.95 month
(4) Network Features and Coverage >
Tmobile - Normally getting EDGE Network, Spotty 3g, No 4G, Voice coverage not really that good either
Verizon - Strong 3G spotty 4G, Best voice coverage hands down of any provider
(5) Customer Service >
T-Mobile - Arab guy practically needed a translator to talk to me (kept asking me to repeat my self because he didn't understand)
Verizon - Cute sounding southern bell answered the phone and took care of my question fast and directly, no putting on hold to ask some one else and definitely didn't need a translator.
(9) Processors
Nexus One - 1ghz Snapdragon
Thunderbolt - 1ghz Scorpion
Pretty much a tie here I think. But from I could see at the Verizon Store and My current N1 using quadrant Thunderbolt (1870) slapped my N1 (1175) and then showed it who daddy was. Sorry N1 lost again.
(10) Phone Size (This was my biggest concern, pun intended)
Nexus One - Attractively big enough for any feature I want (Perfect size for a smart phone IMO)
Thunderbolt - A little on the big side with the screen being nearly .5 inches bigger as well the phone size being about the same width and height wise.
(11) Dev Support
Nexus One will probably devour any phone in the category
Thunderbolt should pick up the pace as it matures
(12) OS (Gingerbread AOSP Vs. Froyo Sense)
Nexus One - Gingerbread AOSP Stock or Tons of different Custom Roms, Google Supported of course (Reason for the N1 Love). Nice, clean and absolutely no BLOAT
Thunderbolt - Froyo with Sense. Honestly I love sense. Coming from and AOSP build and I couldnt be happier. I love the added widgets, the layout of sense is phenomenal, recent apps in the pull down is awesome. It just looks great. TONS OF BLOAT WARE though.
(13) Feature Set
Nexus One - APPS to SD (A must have for this phone), Free WIFI Tethering, Standard type Android settings menus, Trackball notifications (handier than I would have ever thought), Compatible with nearly any app that hits the market, call blocking support via Cyanogen MOD
Thunderbolt - APPS to SD (not even needed), WIFI Tethering with Paid subscription to VZ (downer, but possibly free with ROOT), Settings menus are not standardized with AOSP Android Releases making them a new learning curve
(14) Accessories
Nexus One - Packed Full of what ever you need, but need to find it on Ebay since most places are no longer carrying accessories for the phone.
Thunderbolt - Already a flooded market of accessories (major plus)
(15) Battery Life
Nexus One and Thunderbolt are about the same. N1's never got that great of battery life either. After my battery leveled off on my Thunderbolt, it has been pretty comparable.
So far this is the homework I have done to help with my decision. The monthly cost was not really a deal maker or a breaker for me since I was allready comfortable with it. The fact that T Mobile sold off to ATT is a little disheartening to me and leaves me anxious as to what I can expect from the most notorious of all the major carriers. That is what finally pushed me over the EDGE and in to the LiTE.

Yeah...the AT&T purchase made me switch from T-Mobile too..... but where do you get EDGE,let alone 3G!??!!? I always get GPRS with T-Mobile(Haven't canceled YET,trying a data only/VOIP plan on VZW).

I had a G2 and a Nexus one before coming over to Verizon. The phone is nice and dev is moving along considering the phone has only been out for a week. At least we know there will be a working sense Rom, cm7, and hopefully a miui build. To me theses were the bug three I'm worried about.

Only time I had called customer service and had someone hard to understand was when it was billing (collections cause I forgot to pay my bill) other than that almost always some chipper sounding girl or some guy sounding extra chill (read stoner)
And sucks you live somewhere with such spotty service, I live in Houston and had good 4G service. I switched cause I started having data freezes and AT&T buying them sold me.
Also what kinda plan did you have costing that much? I had 3 lines and it was only 160/mo.

I'm on flexpay 1400 mins family. It was $120 and without notice went to $130.
I get hsdpa if in Milwaukee. But if I leave to a smaller town I get nothing. Major problem for me when traveling.

I actually just dropped Tmobile for Verizon and the bolt. I did it for both the merger and because I wanted to get in on Verizon's Blistering fast LTE network before they went to tiered data. I wanted a grandfathered Unlimited plan.
Well that and the fact that I couldn't any service at all at my college, and crappy edge at home.

I just jumped from a N1 on ATT to the Tbolt. The only thing I miss is CM7 which we should get on the Tbolt soon enough. I don't miss ATT's spotty coverage. I find the Tbolt to be significantly more snappy than the nexus since I started running the new virus rom. The LTE speed and coverage in the DC area also blows away the N1 on ATT.

If you read consumer reports, Verizon has the best coverage, hands down across the country.
I finally decided to stop defending T-mobile and the spotty coverage. I paid T-mobile 79.99 per month for service and could only use what I paid for when at work.
Now I will pay Verizon 76.00 per month (including insurance). I get less minutes but at least I can use the minutes I have when I need to. Also with the strength of the Verizon LTE coverage in Atlanta, I should be able to make VOIP calls with Sipdroid, and Google Voice, and have people be able to hear me.
I finally decided, why pay for a service I can only use under certain circumstances.....

Switching from T-Mobile today. Going to miss my Nexus one. I have very fast HSPA+ service where I live. (suburb of Boston) The buy out just freaked me out. I own 4 phones, G1, BB9700, MyTouch 4G and the Nexus One and they will all become paper weights. That is why I am pissed off. I paid full price for every phone and you can be sure AT&T will not give me 4 devices to make up for the ones I bought. I figured I would jump on the unlimited data plan while I can and enjoy that blazing speed. I have the Verizon LTE working in my area. I am very excited about my new phone. Going to the local Verizon store in my town and buy me some Thunderbolt action. Then it's back home to root it. I was a die hard T-Mobile customer who enjoyed their Network and their customer service has always been nothing but first class to me. I'm hoping Verizon will be a great experience for me. Thinking about a future with AT&T and their lousy data capped plans doesn't sit well with me. I absolutely loved my Nexus One on T-Mobile. I changed Roms like underwear and will miss that. T-Mobile really let their customers down IMO. It was just a couple of weeks ago when I heard someone from T-Mobile say "T-Mobile USA is NOT for sale".

Yeah when you look at ATT's data plans they cap you at 5gb, that will easily be eaten up by slacker radio, pandora and soon netflix or streaming from your home computer.

What's up One X peeps? I am currently with Sprint on a Galaxy S2 in the Bristol, Tn area. Not so great of service and it is only 3g coverage for Sprint here so far(no plans in the future to add LTE here as far as I know...which is stupid because the race track is sponsored by Sprint and yet they have the worst service in the area duhuh..)...aaanyway, I am considering AT&T because I can pay a little extra and have 4g almost anywhere I go in the Tri Cities. So I am torn between the S3 and the One X. I have had Sense phones and touchwiz phones so I am really asking if anyone would care to share what they love about their One X and why they chose it over the S3. They are both remarkable but I am honestly leaning toward the One X because it is different in an appealing kind of way. I am just an average user other than rooting every phone I get my hands on. Browsing, texting, listening to music with headphones, email, etc. I had a Nexus S 4G before the S2 and a Hero before that. I have loved all of my phones but I kind of want something different right now. It also helps that the One X is on sale for $99 until September.

Funny you mentioned the race track, I'm right by Pocono and there is no lte either lol, oh wait there's no service at all by the SPRINT sponsored race track! Lolol. So glad I'm on att now

DO IT. I was with Sprint for 5 years, and ever since they got the iPhone my 3G speeds were simply atrocious. How good is having unlimited data when you're pulling 0.5mbps down(on a good day)? And I'm in a network vision completed area! The difference really is night and day, and so damn worth it.
Also, battery life on the One X with LTE is better than my EVO 4G, EVO 3D and Galaxy Nexus ever had on 3G... TIMES TWO. I've left my phone unplugged for eight hours when going to bed, to wake up and find out it only used 2% battery. ON LTE.
There really is no contest here. It's even worth paying an ETF. I sold my (mint condition) Galaxy Nexus on ebay for $350 and paid my ETF with that.

I was a Sprint customer for a decade and finally got fed up with their data speeds. What's the point of unlimited data if you can't even use it? After a brief trial with Verizon, I made the move to AT&T in January and couldn't be happier. The HOX is an absolute beast of a phone and coupled with AT&T's blazing LTE speeds (and even their fast-enough HSPA+ when LTE isn't available) it's pretty much unstoppable. I had heard horror stories about AT&T's customer service before coming over here but my experience with them has been nothing but positive, and I have tested the patience of more than a handful of AT&T reps since making the move. They are friendly, somewhat knowledgeable, they do try to help as best they can, and best of all- they are incredibly easy to manipulate. Do it man, you'll be glad you did.

The main reason I left sprint was due to the horrible 3G speeds. You know how bad it feels to see buffering every 5 seconds on sprint watching youtube? The slowest speed I've got on ATT was 6mbps, thats more than enough for anything I need to do. Sprint, I was barely able to do 0.5mpbs with full bars, pathetic.
Good bye Sprint, You won't ever see me again. I'm paying $10 more a month, but its we'll worth it.

Yeah, I am thinking it is going to be worth the transfer. It doesnt seem too crazy to get root and unlock the bootloader from what I have read so I am sure I can manage. The only work arpund I will have to find is the storage but dropbox is offering the 25gb space still if I am not mistaken.

The latest firmware version (2.20) is not currently rootable, although its being worked on. No root also means no bootloader unlock. It seems that based on reports here, a lot of newly purchased One X's have 2.20 pre-installed. Maybe you can find a store with some older stock (1.73 and 1.85 are okay). But if you need root and unlocked BL right now, be aware when buying.
Also, I think AT&T stopped supporting the Dropbox promotion a while ago.

I'd recommend the secondary market vs buying a new one at this point.

Att gave me a $175 trade on my Epic 4G touch when I came from sprint a month ago...best decision I made in a long time.

come on over! I honestly don't know how people put up with Sprint's data speeds. Also, I don't have any complaints with AT&T except I'm patiently waiting for LTE in Denver (HSPA+ is good enough, but why put up with "good enough" ). I've been with the company since their Cingular days and won't be going anywhere for a while (unless I jump over to Straight Talk to save some $$)

The S3 has better hardware specs but the HOX is better looking.
Basically it comes down to sd card/more ram/removable battery vs better screen and build quality.
IMO the S3 is ugly as sin, with a dated, pedestrian design (seriously, a physical home button?). But some people like it.
If you're a power user you may be better off with the S3 because of the better multitasking (more ram) and storage space. If looks and design matter to you, go with the HOX.
I came from iOS, so the sd card slot and battery were not really a big deal, while the design was.
AT&T's coverage is not as big as Verizon's but the data speeds are nice. Their customer service has always been pretty good on most issues (exceptions being the various things they like to lock down--but Verizon has always been far worse about that anyway).

U know how ppl who have sprint deal with the horrid speeds? by never experiencing good speeds..lol..I've never saw over a mb/s unless on my airave or WiFi....I don't even attempt doing stuff when I'm out and about that requires more than minimal bandwidth..but I'm in the early 2nd round of network vision so hopefully that will change ..if 6mb/s is slow for you then I'm jealous..can't imagine u need much more than that for anything..YouTube app still buffers for me on WiFi when playing hd content..and its 20 down..anyone else have that issue ?

The LTE service that I get is so fast, there is ZERO difference from WiFi, and can even be faster in some cases. When I start watching a video on youtube and switch to HD, it starts playing immediately. I can't even begin to explain how much faster it is compared to even Sprint's solid WiMAX service here in Boston.
Speaking of WiMAX, LTE on AT&T runs at 700mhz, so LTE signals penetrate buildings even better than 3G and voice if you can believe it. I remember with WiMAX my signal would drop if I stepped over a shadow.
And while I've seen bursts of up to 60mbps(I kid you not), It's the insanely low ping times(about 30ms) that make you feel like you're using WiFi.

I think I will go for it. It will cost probably $10-20 mpre a month because pf the discpunt I get with Sprint through my bank...but again, I am tired of waiting for service and having to constantly roam with roamcontrol just to make a phone call in my apartment. I will try to get time to give more thanks later. I believe I talked myself into it earlier today. Design and feel mean a lot to me. And if those Apple fanbois are happy with no removable battery or sd card then I can manage too lol. Thank you all for your input!

Has Anyone Jumped from Sprint to Verizon for the SGIII?

I have an S2 with Sprint and while I love the phone, Sprint's lack of signal and speed is making me loose my shlt on a daily basis.
I'm at the point where taking the ETF hit is inconsequential to the quality of life I may enjoy with VZ.
Has anyone done what I'm talking about specifically from the S2 Sprint to the S3 Verizon? Are you happier????

I did and i couldnt be happier. Went from the epic touch to the S3. Sprint service blows. Not even a comparison.

I did. The service is much better in most places, but where I live I got slow Sprint speeds and its no different with VZW.

I did exactly that, Sprint gs2 to Verizon gs3. I couldn't be happier. I went from absolutely no service at work to having lte coverage. I am selling my e4gt to cover the cost of early termination. My bill is more monthly, but I feel it's worth it.

this phone has a ton of features whether you stay stock or custom like paranoid android
and reception being the biggest reason i transferred. i dont miss sprint, loved the s2 but s3 is a beast

I did also. I had the OG HTC EVO 4G with Sprint and enjoyed that phone. I had no problem with Sprints call quality, but the internet speeds were horrible and I refused to wait for the LTE to be up and running with Sprint. Verizon LTE speeds is way faster than Sprints Wimax. Verizon LTE is also faster than my Comcast home internet at times. I'm happy with my decision.

Came from Sprint and couldnt be happier. I have 4G LTE everywhere I go to the tune of 12mb to upwards of 30mb down.
Sprint is lucky to hit 1.5mb down at 5am, and normally runs at 200-600k down during the day. Sometimes 70k!

Except VZW has 4g LTE and Sprint basically has none. If you're going to have an s3 LTE device you might as well have a carrier that has 4g LTE.

Another convert here: E4GT -> GS3. Couldn't be happier with my decision. It's like going from a dumbphone to a smartphone all over again. Sprint's service was so godawful I could never use my phone for much off of Wifi. Now, I have a solid connection everywhere I go so I end up using my GS3 far more than I ever did my E4GT. It's like night and day.

I converted from Sprint the week xda gave me the heads up VZW was doing away with their unlimited plan.

I came from an Epic which I loved but Sprint which drove me crazy. My internet speed is 10x better which is great. The best part is I can make a phone call and actually talk to someone for 10 minutes and not have the call drop a dozen times.

I went from the Epic Touch to the Verizon GS3, and I could not be happier! Bought my phone for $485 on eBay, plus 64Gb San Disk sdcard from Amazon for $50-ish. Love the phone, and love the service and LTE. Get an average of 15 hours battery life with 4G on 24/7, about 3.5 hours screen on time.

Same here. Went from Epic 4g on Sprint to GS3 on Verizon & have ZERO regrets. Signal is better, data speed is insanely faster. I'm in Omaha, NE, where Sprint has no 4G; finally got tired of their '4G coming soon' BS response.
If your main concern is signal reliability & data speed, make the switch, you'll be much happier. What good is a killer phone if you're always b1tc1n about crappy service?

Paid my ETF and made the switch last week. I'd been thinking about it for awhile and the Amazon $99 sale pushed me over the edge. The only place I spend anytime that doesn't have LTE is work but Verizons 3G is actually usable there compared to Sprints dialup speeds.

I jumped from sprint after 12 years and I couldn't be happier. I have 4g everywhere. I had the evo lte which I loved but the signal is amazing from Verizon. Worth the Money I can't believe how much better the network is on Verizon. And the s3 is a kick ass phone I like it just as much as I liked the evo lte. Only now I have lte

I went from the Epic to the S3 on Verizon and wish I did it long ago. No regrets. I get 4G LTE almost everywhere. The slowest speed I have seen so far on Verizon has been faster than the fastest speed I ever saw on Sprint.

I ended up porting the whole family on Saturday to VZW. I took a $440 hit on ETFs, but my sanity is worth it.
The LTE signal is ALL OVER THE PLACE where I operate and it's lightning fast....Like somebody said, I didn't realize how slow and shtty Sprint was.
My S3 is lasting more than a day compared to my S2 that could barely get 4 hours due to many reasons, most of which stemming from constantly having weak Sprint signals.
I don't even think I'm going to root the S3 at this point.

Also came from Sprint using an S2. I left Sprint due to the crappy service and didn't have to pay ETF fees due to an FCC complaint that got escalated to executive services.
I am loving my S3 as well as Verizons service. Using an app called Netmonitor I now know that Verizon has 3 times as many towers in my area so even if Sprint upgraded my area to LTE they would still suck compared to Verizon.
I shall never bother with Sprint again.

I had just switched to verizon. from sero premium is $50 but i rather pay double for 2gb data on verizon. even if i paid half less for unlimited, i wasnt able to use it. whats the point of unlimited and cheaper when you cant even hardly use it. just too dam slow.
definitely happier with verizon. can use 4g about almost anywhere. even 3g data is fast.
now i can use my phone at work during break. before i couldnt at all. i see everyone with phone out and i am too but not surfing the web. even at home i dont get service. had to use sprint air rave. even with that it barely work once in a while

Verizon is way better! Yes I paid to quit sprint and it's the last they ever get from me
