[Q][REQ] Alternative FM Radio app - Optimus One, P500, V Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone knows an alternative to the CM7 FM radio app?
I don't like the default one, mostly for the unnecessary activation of Bluetooth.
PD: I use the mik's CM7 port ROM

Try this:

Bluetooth and Radio are on the same chip, whenever you launch radio application Bluetooth will be activated by default. It might be possible that some applications/ROMs hide that Bluetooth icon to fool you

Spirit FM (linked above) doesn't need Bluetooth and won't try to fool you

I have worked with mike (the developer) since about a month after the app was released. I had an LG device which did the same, I ran checks. Spirit FM does not use bluetooth

Above 2 points are valid.
It does indeed use my Bluetooth Chip
The bluetooth is ON but It will be hidden and your notifications nor display will show you.
Only way to verify is to use other device and search, definitely your device will be found.

That means the stock FM app in Stock ROM also used bluetooth ??? and this bluetooth activation is only in optimus one???

No, it's in all devices with the same bt/radio chip.
Like stated before, the full chip must be enabled, that's why in cm7 we saw the bt-icon was enabled when running a radio app. Later on it was hidden.
But I guess I understand now what was meant, the bt-services do not start when enabling fm-radio, so you won't see the bt-icon.

Guys I am trying to run Spirit FM on my LG optimus One (P500) in India.
CAn you please share the settings to get it started. Its not working for me?

I find this post funny tho.
Radio is the radiation (wireless transmission) of electromagnetic signals. The biggest use of radio waves is to carry information, such as sound, by systematically changing (modulating) some property of the radiated waves.

So tell me, how did u plan radio to function without the wireless part - bluetooth?
You can't fix anything without knowing how it really works. Luck is an exception

[Q] FM radio

I would like to know if its possible to bring up FM radio on Nexus S like the Nexus one. I would love to have FM radio on my Nexus S.
It's not possible now. I think nothing has been done about that in development forum
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
well it doesn't have an fm receiver right? so it'll never happen.
Actually it does. The Bluetooth chip is an FM receiver too. Maybe wifi also.

ohh... interesting. so why isn't it enabled? there must be some reason. interferance? i've read that apparently nfc can interfer with other components.
Not sure. But from the ifixit website (they dissected a nexus)
Hidden underneath an EMI cover is the Broadcom Wi-Fi chip.
The chip reads: BCM4329GKUBG TE1043 P21
According to UBM Techinsights, the chip is a low-power package with 802.11n, Bluetooth 2.1, and FM capability.

nice, maybe then it's samsung's fault with driver issues?
Yes. Even I came to know from other websites and links that its the same chip BCM4329 thats present in Nexus one. So I guess its possible to add FM radio support unless if the chip specifications had changed.

Well I'm actually looking for an app to stream music from my sensation to home theater using FM rds. I used to do that on my Nokia n900. Just open radio settings, set FM frequency to any thing like 99.0 and in music player there was an option that enabled FM transmission and vola ! play songs on any device that has FM.

I hope I'm able to expree my point.
I really miss this feature

That's not the same thing you asked in your initial post. The HTC Sensation DOES have FM RDS which means it can receive data from the radio stations such as the name of the station or program ("BBC R3 - Mozart Piano Concerto No. 12" for instance).
BUT it does not have an FM transmitter like the N900 or N97. So you cannot do what you want using FM frequency. (You could using Bluetooth).
I hope this answers your question.

Hmm yeah! Got it. Will try streaming via dlna. Unfortunately my home sterio does not have dlna, but my TV has, so I will have to set my TVs audio out to sterio and then stream it. Man! Its a long process. Wait, HTC has some dlna adaptor addon for older TVs and sterois.
Thanx for answers.

[Q] FM Radio

I read online that the galaxy tab 2 7.0 uses a Broadcom BCM4330 chip which has an FM Transceiver and Bluetooth 4.0. But when i bought the tab, there was no FM option in it and the box said that it had Bluetooth 3.0. Is this a software issue ? If so, is there any custom ROM that supports these features ?
I sure would like that. Loved it on my evo.

I'm wondering if there is a kernel/rom that allow to listen fm radio off line.
thanks
Nexus s doesn't support FM radio
IT doesn't have the hardware. Use an app over wifi or.... Hmmm... Use a radio. What are the like 3 dollars for a battery powered portable radio. Honestly. I :banghead:

Buy one of those headsets that has a built in radio receiver, because NS doesn't have a radio for, well, um, radio. according to the laws of conservation, we can't just materialise a radio out of nothing/nowhere, no unless you're magic, NS won't have a FM radio.

Pandora info not displayed....Mazda 3

When I connect my phone via bluetooth or aux no Pandora information is displayed on the dash, Google music displays information fine. I remember running across a thread one time where there was a possible fix if you were rooted...at the time I read the thread I wasn't rooted so I didn't pay much attention....now I am rooted, running cleanrom. Any ideas? It's not a huge deal but it sure would be nice if it worked.
Well aux isn't a type of connection to display information like that. I'm rooted running clean rom and pandora displays just fine on my pioneer lcd screen in my car via bluetooth. So it use to work but doesn't anymore after having rooted and running clean rom?

It's never worked. I've Googled a bit and read some threads on it working with CM 10 (other phones) so it's obviously a file or setting somewhere.....this is the kind of little tiny thing that can give me ocd
No I understand lol You're sure that you car is capable of displaying pandora information? Have you tried with another phone? It's working me but not sure. Is there any settings in the car?

I have no idea if works with another phone. The car as far as I know does not have any "advanced" bluetooth settings but I could be wrong. I have no idea if it's capable of displaying Pandora info but it was built in 2013 so I would hope it is. I will check with the dealership but I don't see why G Music would work but Pandora would not.
My 2012 Jetta has never displayed Pandora music info on the screen. I've used a droid RAZR, HTC rezound and my gs3. But my friends iPhone 4 does display the info in my car. So I'm assuming its an android issue not a specific ROM issue.

In doing a bit of googling, the Pandora android app doesn't have AVRCP metadata support...meaning it doesn't send the info to be displayed. However some one has a github showing how to alter the Pandora app so it will.
On the bottom of the first post in this Honda Civic forum (sorry) http://www.9thgencivic.com/forum/au...-support-android-album-track-information.html the OP posted an altered Pandora that will stream data. Try it.
Oh yeah, CM has yet to merge the Bluetooth AVRCP 1.3 (and it may be quite a while, so I've read). So even if you do download the modded Pandora, it won't work with CM. And that applies to any rom that uses CM as a base.
That works! Unfortunately I don't think I can handle the ads... Thanks for your post!

I display Pandora on my pioneer LCD head unit just fine with the stock Pandora app from the market. So it does work but maybe your car is different.
