[Q] WiFi Calling - T-Mobile LG G2x

Coming from my N1 to a G2x, one thing I forgot about was my WiFi calling at work. I wonder how hard this would be to get working on the G2x?
Possible?

It's easy, it works the same way.

I'm pretty sure the g2x comes with wifi calling pre-installed.

It sure does.

yes it has it! I can confirm that!

whoopy dang!
It was the one thing I didn't think about when I made the impulse buy and later was sweating. We have a cellular repeater at work which seems to rebroadcast certain cell frequencies. It works well for AT&T and Verizon but not so much for Tmobile.

[Q] Will Inspire 4G Be Able To Be Unlocked

I am currently with T-mobile, due to having bad credit I can't switch over to ATT which sucks. So I was wondering if anyone knew if this phone was going to be able to be unlocked because I really want to get it as soon as it comes out and use it on T-mobile. T-mobile phones suck and I've fallen in love with the Inspire 4g.
It will only work on edge on tmobile but I'm sure there will be a way to unlock it soon after release.

Really? T-mobile has the G2. That thing is sweet. They also have the MT4G, which is a mean CM7 machine.
I think both of those are as good as the Inspire, if not better for my purposes. But hey, the Inspire/DHD/Ace/Spade is a solid device that will surely be a winner.
Yes, I think it will be very easy to unlock the Inspire for use on other networks if that's what you want to do. As mentioned, it would yield edge-only data on T-Mobile.

The G2 is ok but all my friends have it so I want something different. Plus I like the 4.3 inch screen, I'm tired of this little screen on the MT3G, time for me to finally upgrade.

3G Data and Talk at the same time!

Anyone notice that you can Talk+Surf at the same time when on 3G-mode ???
I noticed this the other day when their 4G was down for the entire day!!
This is the only Verizon phone that can do it!!!
Yes sir, that is one of cool features of VZW's LTE network.
Although I rarely use it, it is nice to have

Agreed since I never really use my phone for talking I find very little need but it really just gives me another reason to love this amazing phone.

The reason we are able to do it on 3G as well is because the Thunderbolt has two different antennas. One is for the LTE/3G and one is for the 1X/Text messaging. Because it has the two different ones that's why we will be able to talk and surf. The Bionic may be cancelled because the antennae is not working well with the tegra. And the Samsung Charge will only be able to talk and surf in a 4G area. If you are on 3G you won't be able to talk and surf. So it's a cool feature that hTc has right now. The information is based off of the review of the ThunderBolt below with a couple of bits from what I have been reading.

I just realized this yesterday, and it made me SO happy! I've got mad love for my T-Bolt right now!
blackmanx (Twitter's most popular Verizon network engineer) said it was because the Bolt uses SVDO instead of EVDO for it's 3G. This makes it possible to talk and surf at the same time over 3G. So the Bolt is only using the one radio when talking and surfing on 3G
As for 4G, LTE uses a separate radio, but LTE allows for this simultaneous function anyway
And no, the Verizon iPhone very much cannot use this functionality, nor can any other phone currently on Verizon's lineup. You need to go to a GSM network if you want this on any other phone when using 3G

So does this mean that our calls don't ever go through 3GEV or LTE, and always 1x?
Reason I ask, is in the 2 weeks that I had the TBolt, the clarity of my calls seem inferior compared to my nexus one on T-Mo 3G, like the person on the other end sounds muffled. Not sure about others, but thats been my experience so far.

actually it IS possible. but only on the eHRPD network. it is 3G and you can talk and surf. The thunderbolt is the only device with it that i know of. you dont need to be in 4G LTE area to get it.

Talk and surf at the same time over 3g ?

can you talk and surf on photon q without using wifi or 4g access like the sgs 3 i think its S-evdo that allows this
anyone that has this phone already confirm this ?
TIA
Don't know about this 'S-evdo' thing, but none of the CDMA/EvDO phones I've ever had were able to do this. I just tried it on my Photon Q and still no.
It probably works on LTE, but I can't test that since Sprint doesn't have LTE coverage where I live yet. WiFi still operates fine.
Hope that helps!
Whats weird is that i tried this on my photon the other night and it didnt work. Tonight, i was able to make a call AND pull up the internet while on 3G. Connected to Airave if it matters. During the call the 3G icon never left like it used to do on all my other phones.

Don't trust the icon. lol
Edit: Just called a 1-800 number to test this and ran a speedtest.... I can confirm that 3G does work while in-call; 500kbps which is impossible over 1xRTT.
Evo lte can do it
And it depends if the towers have been upgraded for jt
Wonder why this wasnt pushed as a feature. I got over 2 MBits doing this connected to my Airave. I have noticed a slightly longer delay in voice when using data at same time. Could just be my imagination i guess.
Does this really have something to do with the tower or more to do with extra radios in the phone itself?

Maybe because if you're connected to one of these Airave things, you're near an internet connection and could probably just use wifi. Doesn't really seem like a very appealing feature.

What? I dont believe the Airave is what makes the voice / data at the same time possible. I simply stated the speed I got to show how well the simultaneous services work under great conditions.
So then it is possible just as long as the tower your phone is connected to has been upgraded to allow this and this phone does support it???

I think it only has to do with the phone itself. More than one radio in it is the deciding factor. Actually, I have my phone set on CDMA/LTE mode, I wonder if i set it to CDMA only if this would still work.

[Q] Any N5 rom that has wifi calling ?

really considering jumping over since they pay the ETF
its not a mandatory feature but i safety cushion i know normally the wifi calling is only on t-mobile branded phones and wifi calling is not normally a part of the nexus line
so has any dev found a way to get this working on the n5
No. And if you go to T-mobile with the new deal, you have to turn in a phone and buy a new phone.

In short, T-Mobile is known to have spotty coverage so they have a proprietary software that allows you to leverage wifi connection to make phone calls. Pretty great actually if you have a phone that supports it.

and there's been a $1400+ bounty for wifi calling on nexus 4, no one's claimed it
so don't count on having wifi calling on nexus 5.
t-mobile do have femtocells (basically a small cell site inside your house), dunno the difficulty in getting one, or that you should even consider moving to t-mobile if your home reception is that bad.
also, t-mobile only sells the 16gb of n5.
I have a nexus 5, also have a really old froyo t-mobile android phone with wifi calling if I were to travel overseas

Metro PCS Signal Issue (Brooklyn Area)

My friend purchased a new 1+1 and is having issues obtaining a good signal in his basement apartment in Brooklyn. I was wondering if anyone else in the NY area that may be in a basement area is experiencing these issues on MetroPCS.
Also does anyone have a good wifi based calling app that works well. He has tried Uber and Viber I believe but had issues with both. Any help would be appreciated and he is running full stock no root.
I understand that in a basement not all carriers operate well but just trying to see if anyone out there has a solution that I have not been able to find. If not there will be a 1+1 for sale... LOL
Thanks in advance
Can't speak for MetroPCS but since they're pretty much with T-Mobile. I live in Brooklyn and don't have any difficulties obtaining signal in my basement.
I'm not sure if it would even help if he switched to T-Mobile since they're pretty much the same company.

We are going to try that today since my boy who is on T-Mobile is getting his phone today. He is going to go over there and check it out. The difference is of course T-Mobile has priority on the towers and not sure where MetroPCS falls in with the other MVNO's as far as priority for the towers.
He had an old LG 770 or something that apparently worked great but it was also a MetroPCS specific phone

Wow lol your friends sure have a lot of invites .... if they're now starting to get T-Mobile and want a good plan, they should get the T-Mobile $30 plan. 100 minutes, unlimited text, 5GB of high speed data. Its a bummer that the 7 day trial for TMo the iphone uses a nano.. if he has a adapter, he can use the adapter to turn the nano to a micro and then put it in the opo.

Wow do they really use a nano because thats exactly what I told him to do but like I said we will be testing it out on T-Mobile later today. He actually purchase a signal booster and I have no idea why. I would simply try different companies since most are month to month now.
Hold on one of my friends just did that and got the Iphone on Monday. He said it was an Iphone 5s that was sent to him for testing. That has a nano?

Yeah Apple standardly uses Nano-SIMs... he can buy a Nano to Micro SIM adapter. Thats weird that he bought a signal booster, T Mobile usually supplies you one for free if you fulfill certain criteria when it comes to having 1 bar of signal or something like that.

Or a adapter if he goes into a phone shop, they should carry them there. Its really weird too because when I powered on my OPO with the tmobile sim, it defaulted to metropcs apn instead of the tmo 4g apn so he should watch out for that as well

I have T-Mobile and a guy at work always rags me since the merger saying I'm on Metro. I live and work in the Tampa Bay area so both T-Mobile and Metro have 4G/LTE service here. A few co-workers have Metro and I always kill them on speed test. In fact some of them need to walk outside just to make a phone call or download something while I can do it all inside without any loss in service.
In fact the guy who rags me is on Verizon and he now shuts his mouth since I also destroyed his speed test results.
I really just think it has to do with Metro.

I agree with you and like I said the test will be done later today but trying to keep him from doing anything crazy till we test. He has to stand in one part of his apartment just to make a call. I would be upset too but then again its a basement....
Its probably on lower priority like what playya said to make people switch over from MetroPCS to T Mobile as they're slowly and slowly reallocating the spectrum to tmo.

Yea my house in NY was out in Long Island and in my basement there I was still able to get reception and about 20 down speeds while I was there. I even told him to put his phone on Edge but it did not work either. I think/hope a different carrier like T-Mo will solve issue

Same here. The only thing I can think of is that there are a lot of walls and not a lot of windows so signal is hard to penetrate. Does he get LTE speeds as well? Too bad the T Mobile Take Action page is down, it was a page to note down complaints on signal.
