[Q] XOOM Wifi Newark Airport, NJ? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Long shot here?
Friend of mine flying back home to Dublin through Newark this morning. Is there any computer/gadget shop in Newark Airport that might have the XOOM for sale?

Don't know if this helps but here is a list of shops at Newark airport

Tnx
Just the one shop, I doubt I'll get lucky.

Asta La Vista!

Alright...I've been around here for a few years and have enjoyed it.
My Fuze took a dump...screen kept freezing and then it would boot with no display/blank screen. OS was up and ActiveSync worked but no display.
2nd Fuze I've owned. Both of the touchscreens got the liquid/mosaic after flights to California from Atlanta. Phone doesn't like temp/humidity/pressure changes apparently.
HTC quality sux and so does their service. I won't buy one again unless someone can convince me that there is a good HTC phone for ATT.
Any advice on a replacement?
If not...then I guess I will go to the Iphone.
Thanks in advance.
sorry for ur loss. Have u tried the TP2?
your phone didn't survive california to atlanta? Mine survived atlanta to bangkok and back then to kentucky and finally to california (with a few back and forth from CA to KY)
it also survived 20+ falls/drops.
Try getting yourself Bodyguardz skin protector or invisble shield. that was a massive life saver for me.

Spring 4G (WiMax) in South Florida

Well, this is my first post ever in the XDA forums, but I just thought some people might want to know this:
I have a Sprint epic 4g (galaxy s) and even though Sprint has promised 4G in South Florida by the end of the year, no date was actually given, as we all know. I go outside and push the 4g button every day hoping to get a connection, as in when they may be testing it as many NYC users have reported connectivity before "official launch". I live in Boynton Beach, FL which is in Palm Beach County, which is in-between West Palm Beach, and Ft. Lauderdale. According to Sprint, when they say the "Miami Metro" they define it as "Miami north to Port St. Lucie (which is 40 miles north of me, therfore I am well in the defined area). While I still did not get a signal outside my house today, I started a new job in Delray Beach today (which is the next town south in-between Boynton Beach and Boca Raton) and while at work, guess what!! a strong 4G signal!!!!! All throughout Delray Beach, I used Speed Test and the FCC test to test speeds and I was getting approx 7mb/sec download and 3mb/sec upload with a ping of around 121ms. After work I drove around to see if I can hold the signal (oh, and BTW many people have mentioned that they get 4G outside but as soon as they go inside a building or a car it goes away, that was NOT the case at all with me. Strong signal regardless of inside or outside) So, even though it has not been "officially launched" in the South Florida metro, it is obviously being prepared as promised, so even though Clearwire is pulling out of the Miami metro as declared on their own webpage due to funding issues, Sprint was telling the truth that it will not stop owners of 4g enabled phones (evo and epic) of getting the service that was promised. I am very, very happy. When I pushed that 4g button and it didn't say "4g disconnected" I was in shock! So any of you in the South Florida area, (West palm beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami) it really is here (sorta) and it should not be long! I was most amazed that it did not drain the battery in my epic any faster than 3g.

More Gtabs for $279

I called both the Niagara falls and the Akron stores as well as Sears outlet customer service to try and finagle shipping but no dice.
There is one at Niagara falls, Akron Ohio, Costa mesa, and oak ridge Illinois
There's no Sears Outlet in Akron. Which store were you contacting?
They aren't always at the outlets. Sometimes they are in the retail stores as well. If you click the checkbox on one of the stores and click continue it will tell you if the store is a retail or an outlet. I'm still hoping one of the retail stores in Virginia will get a few.

I tried getting the one in Akron... No go. Ordered online for in-store pickup, and when they went to fullfil the order, the item had already been sold in-store. Grr.
Really was looking forward to having a second one for the girlfriend to play with while I tinker with mine.
Last refurb is in Oak Brook, IL. I called and they said someone has called and would be there later today to buy it. They said it was first come first served. Also, they said they will not ship from one store to another. Someone in Illinois is going to be very happy later on today.
Ok, scratch that last comment. From the look of the outlet site they sold it already. Someone in Illinois is happy right now.

Just because its listed on Sears outlet doesn't mean its at an actual outlet store.

[Q] Talk mobile data coverage for Xoom 3G in the UK?

Hi all,
I'm going to play with the Xoom at Carphone warehouse tomorrow. My main concerns are the overall ergonomic and screen quality.
If I'm happy with the Xoom, I'll buy it for £130 and 5GB of data per month for 24 months with Talk mobile at £25p/m.
My main concern is I never used Talk mobile before and would like some input about there data coverage in the UK please? I'm located in north London area.
Many thanks
It uses vodaphones network so coverage seems quite good! I get 6mb download speed in my house (knowsley 10 miles from Liverpool city) yet barely get a phone signal at all on my android phone! Downside is Vodaphone have an 'adult content control' which stop you from accessing some. Completely innocent sites and talkmobile told me they can only lift it after 3 months! I've not been able to access some news sites either... I wouldn't mind but even if I was looking for porn, why would I have to wait 3 months? Does that make any difference? Will the xoom have cleansed my muddy soul by then?? ;-)
Anyway back on topic... its been great signal for me so far... even got gprs on a campsite surrounded by hills in Wales...

Opinions on International Mobile Internet solutions

Hey xda. I'm thinking about participating in a Semester at Sea, which is basically a semester on a cruise ship that docks at various countries. They give you like 2 hours of wifi, then it's $0.30 a minute. Do you guys know of any other options either through mobile carriers (im with tmobile now) or companies? Thanks!
What countries would you be visiting? How long would you stay at each country? Would you actually disembark, or stay on/near the ship? When not in port, do you have any idea if you would at least be near land (e.g., near cellular signal)?
On one hand, I think the idea would be a great opportunity to be "disconnected" for a while. Just enjoy what's actually going on around you.
Or look into satellite-based internet. I don't know how practical that would be or how much you're willing to spend - they're usually data-capped services, so while it may end up being cheaper than 30 cents a minute (a charge that perhaps exists in order to keep you focused and only have you use it for essential communications), you may or may not get what you want out of it.

Im assuming we'll be near the ship, but I dont know for certain.
Wow, so you will definitely be spending many days in the middle of nowhere. You should plan on not having any internet access at all, though there will probably be an internet cafe within walking distance of every stop. Save your 2 hours of usage for when you really need it (they may charge by 15 minute intervals, or even by the hour). When you use the wifi, make sure you log out! And, use it smartly: all outgoing emails should be composed ahead of time; if you want to read something (blogs, wikipedia, etc.), it might be more cost effective to just print it out & read it later.
Most of all, as I said, be prepared to spend a lot of time away from the internet. Remember that you can still use your electronic devices, so you can always play (offline) games or whatever if you get bored playing miniature golf.
If you don't have one already, buy a camera, and don't run out of digital storage! If you don't have a laptop, someone else will probably have one (so bring some blank DVDs), or you can stop by an internet cafe to burn pictures onto DVD.
Although I didn't read the link, I think you should do it. You won't remember the stuff you "learned," but you'll remember the trip.
Good luck.
