[Q] Question about charging while off.. - EVO Shift 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I just rooted my shift a couple days ago and installed clockwork recovery thru Rom Manager and my phone doesn't charge while it's off. It goes to recovery. So I was wondering what would happen if my phone died?

So it's ok to let it die? I'm confused lol. I just wanted to condition my battery like I did with my evo. But I don't want it to brick.

Mine has died once. It had just enough juice to boot though, luckily.
Perhaps if a bounty was put on it, koush would consider fixing it.

I finally killed my phone!

Well after months of flashing every ROM under the sun, I finally managed to somehow kill my phone
I was running Andromeda 3 with great success and you may have even noticed that I recently ported a couple of themes, so that means lot's of flashing, etc.
Last night I got a wild hair up my butt and decided to try GR-11. The install went great! I used the phone last night and this morning then I started noticing a few minor bugs and decided it wasn't for me just until the GB Roms are refined.
I loaded up Odin, put in my 2.1 pit and tar and pushed them (I do have 3 button recovery). The install succeeded and rebooted......only it never powered back on!!
It's dead! No power. I had a full battery of course. I have tried every button combo possible to get it back on but no luck. It will not power on with the charger plugged in, nor after a battery pull, nor anything else that I have tried.
Guess it's off to the AT&T store and hopefully get a replacement.... It's only a few months old and was not a refurb so I should be good.

Damn, that's not nice at all.
That JTAG bring back to life thingy is just not worth the cost.
Should've opened the .tar with 7zip first and made sure BOTH or NO bootloaders where in it. Boot loaders will be in the update folder and.they are boot.bin and sbl.bin. Sounds like it only had ONE and that's why you're toast.

If you damaged/mix/screw up with the bootloaders.. You won't get ANY kind of reaction from your phone. No matter what (beside with JTAG).

I see by your sig that this happened to you also
Since it wont power on I should be able to take it to the AT&T repair facility and plead the "FIF" right? Just tell them it died while on a call? Or while I was upgrading to 2.2?

Yea it did happen to me.. Although, it was my fault as I went too fast and didn't read/understand all I was doing back then
Also +1 on the upgrading to 2.2 - it's a known issue
I just got back from the AT&T service store and they replaced my Cappy!!!! The only problem is that it is a 1012 model w/ 2.2 installed. The process to root and flash a ROM is the same as my old 1008 model right?
Not quite ... Unless you use odin first thing and flash 2.1
Otherwise go to the 3e recovery sticky and follow that after rooting with super one click.
Imo its just easier to odin to eclair, then everything will be exactly the same.

Can't you just flash a cwm kernel using odin and then use that to install whatever rom you want?

Just because thats what the sticker on the phone says doesn't mean that's what board is on it, its a refurb who knows what the actual build number is.
but there isn't a set build number that had ****ty gps that just varies from phone to phone no matter what the build date is.

[Q] S/W Upgrade Please wait while upgrading...

This is my first Android phone so I'm not sure what I'm looking at...
My G2X was running Faux's AOSP Rom version 1.2.2. It was great until today when my phone kept crashing/freezing.
I decided to uninstall PimpmyCpu because I don't really know how to use it and that is the only wildcard that was on my phone. I uninstalled and on the reboot my phone froze during the multi-colored boot animation.
I pulled off the cover and the battery. Powered on the phone and I got this screen.
What does this mean? I have never seen it before?
I have ClockWork Recovery and ROM Manager installed, but I have never seen this before...ideas?
Should I just pull the battery and reboot to recovery? Will I kill my phone?
Was the phone charging when you saw this. Did you have the volume buttons pressed when you pulled the battery?
G2x with CM7 and faux .18 kernel. [email protected] 5091 quadrant.
The phone was not charging but I might have had the volume buttons down. Why?
It means you got the Gingerbread update!!!!!!
Just kidding. Reboot to recovery and you'll be fine, this has happened to me before.

That's the screen you get to when you NVflash recovery. I believe it's a firmware update screen or some such nonsense.
You can get there by pulling the battery, plugging into a computer, and the holding volume + and - while powering on.
I had this screen displayed in my cell phone..
I took the battery off and rebooted my cell phone... Now I have been sitting on the LG logo for over 20 minutes... It doesn't start, nor does it do anything..
Someone help please?

Stock Recovery?

well i recently put my phone back to stock because ive been having a problem with my phone so im getting a refurbished one from tmobile .
Anyways ive noticed whenever i go into recovery mode it shows the red triangle exclamation point. would this affect me negatively with tmobile? I dont want to be charged extra if it would expose me for rooting my phone.
if so Ive been looking for a stock recovery all over and could not find one. if anyone has it or happens to know a link i can go to get it i would greatly appreciate it since every link ive found is dead unless im just blind.

That means it can't find a recovery. But as far as Tmo goes.....very, very few of them even know how to get to the bootloader. With a stock ROM you should be just fine.
Oh! Alright thanks guys. I'm still kinda noob to this so I just wanted to make sure things were ok. preciate it
Yeah, thats 100% OK. Just make sure you locked again. Just flash back to stock via hboot.

[Q] Atrix 2 Stuck on Dual Core Technology Rooted

Hey guys I didn't find any useful posts for this device with the same problem. So I started a new thread. Well I was googling and texting and all of a sudden my phone reboots. I thought well it's nothing and put my phone down, 15 minutes later I was hoping for it to be on and ready to be used and all I saw was Dual Core Technology. I rebooted it countless times to see if it'll come alive and no luck. I did root the phone awhile back and never had any problems with it until now.
I did try to go to recovery and all it shows is the android with an exclamation mark. I can get into fast boot and everything but I am a noob with fast boot so I don't exactly know how to wipe the phone by using that.
So I am counting on you guys to help me out. I don't even know if my phone is charging atm I just have it plugged into my power port and all it shows is Dual Core Technology and the battery is dead for letting it sit on that screen for about 30 minutes. I hope you guys can help.
Thanks,
Mike
Have you tried to fxz back to stock using RSD Lite? If not make sure your battery is charged before doing so. That should do the trick. If you have a back up try the recovery. When the Android with the exclamation comes up hit both the up and down volume keys at the same time.

Couple things we need to know mate. What firmware are you running? 2.3.5? 2.3.6? Or ICS?
These all play into how you are going fix your phone. And frankly your stock recovery is not going to do you any good with this issue. You WILL have to FXZ back, UNLESS you have a backup made in a different recovery system, IE: bootstrap, or bootmenu. Once again all dependent on what firmware you are on. If you can answer those questions, we can help you with the right procedure.
A good thread to start with is this one: Noobs guide to Android and the Atrix 2
It will give you all the info you need on the FXZ and fastboot.
More info and we can fix ya! :highfive:
EDIT: just saw your battery issue. Pull your battery until you are ready to flash in Fasboot. You need to conserve. How much battery do you think you have? Or is it dead? Flashing in FB and having your phone die due to low battery is a SURE way to hard brick your A2.

Oh and do you guys know what exactly caused this to happen?
Mike
It could've been caused by a number of things. The A2 is an unpredictable phone. Somethings that happen to one person may not happen to others. From my experience.
Did you make any changes to any system files or anything of the such? I see you was rooted, but did you have a custom ROM or custom recovery? I'm assuming since you tried to get to recovery and got the android on its back, that that you didn't have a custom recovery installed..
If someone knows the exact reason this happened, let us know. This is twice I've come across someone with this problem.
FXZ should work for sure though. All is well.

No I don't think I modified anything except rooting and installing cheesecake but I didn't use it. I don't remember having a recovery installed either.
What I did was use android recovery by pushing vol up and down and I reset it. Works fine now I lost root though so I'm going to reinstall it and reset my server on cheesecake because I can't add a motoblur account right now then uninstall it again Lol.
I really appreciate the help. I almost hate the A2. 2 phones 2 unique problems, like you said some people experience a issue that no one else has.

[Q] Am I screwed

Well I was doing a back up and flashed a new ROM, Blinky's revenge, and when I went to reboot nothing. My battery was at 94%.

Are you sure you got the right rom for the i727, where did you get it from. If it doesn't turn on or boot up no one can tell that you tried to flash a rom. It sure sounds like you've bricked it. Any luck getting odin to recognize it. If it does, flash the stock rom.

here's how you check for a heart beat on the phone plug it into the PC and see if you get a Qhusb DL if you do enjoy the paper weight... and maybe an exchange might but the carrier can only give you an answer
Gosh dang it mother F$*%er thats where I messed up.
I can not get into download mode nor get odin to reconize it. It is officially a paper weight. I put in for an exchange with AT&T should be here tomorrow.
I flashed the wrong ROM. I flashed for the I777 not the i727. I hit the wrong button when I was installing I meant to go back but hit the power button by error and that is what did it.
Thank you everyone for your help. It is the first time I ever bricked a phone and I have rooted about 9 different phones and this was completely my error.
Now here is a question. Will they be able to tell it was rooted and I bricked it?
Probably not. From experience, I don't think you need to worry.

Poo happens. Luckily, you're within a year, so it's just a couple weeks without a Skyrocket (if it won't turn on, Sammy can't tell that it was rooted and bricked on a flash). If you were outside of 12 months, well, that would've been a pretty costly lesson. I still double-check the file name before flashing anything on any of my phones, including my Cappy, just to make absolutely certain I'm not about to flash something for a different phone by mistake.

That is what I love about this community, you guys and gals are there for us when we need it and even when we do not.
I got it rooted and CWM on there now time to wipe and re do my roms. Just glad I got a backup of my previous setup before the bricking.
