It's got the best of both worlds! Stock AT&T ROM for good sound quality, but it's also rooted!

But does rooting the stock rom enable hsupa upload speeds? If not, we need s combo rom with a desire and am inspire, sound issue fixed, hsupa enabled.

Is this perma-root? If so how did you do it or can you provide a cwm zip file?

Ahh, but there's a catch. The way I rooted, you need root in the first place (flash through CWM)
Anyway, I'm trying to see if I can get the sideloading thing worked out. If I can't figure it out within the next 20 min, I'll just post the CWM update.zip file as is

What sideloading thing? If its rooted you should not need to sideload. Anyone else confused on that post?

If he simply roots the stock AT&T ROM, it still will not have the Settings Checkbox for allowing non-market apps to be installed, thus he must still use a sideloading app or use "adb install".

That's what I figured.
Inspire (rooted)
Leedroid v2.0.0

This.
The problem is, the way I rooted, ro.secure is still set to 1 (adb sees the phone as a non-rooted phone) which means I can't use "adb remount".
If I could use adb remount, it's a really simple script to update the settings.db file to allow for sideloading

Couldnt you use the method described here to do the "temproot" in order to get the adb root prompt and change it that way?

I also meant to ask if this has wifi tether enabled. I'm assuming it doesn't.

What recovery is this going to use?
Lets you choose
After I just finished a few hours ago reading every post in the other thread and following all those steps!
Way to go, jiqqaman! This will help out quite a few folks on here.
Awesome. I rooted my phone earlier (at least I think I did) and I can't get any rom to install. I think it has to do with the amon-ra recovery so I'm glad this will let me choose.
Does it matter that my evo may already be rooted?
Damn your quick.
Wow Amazing if this works I like very much. Great work put up a more prominent donation button

I dunno anything bout unrevoked , but this doesnt give you the latest radio/wimax that the 1.47.651.1 OTA has. Theres a guide that shows you how to add the latest radio/wimax somewhere on the forum.
I'm using this as my very first post here.
On my old evo I used simple root and it was amazing! I had to return the old evo and get a new one, and as luck would have it it came with the new update.
I can't wait for this new simple root to be uploaded, I keep checking this thread every 5 minutes.
Anyway, one this program is up, running and working I assure you I will be clicking the donate button.
Thank you for the work and effort you are putting into this.

well unrevoked basically let you do anything root would except remove bloatware and flash roms
cuz what i was planning to do was install the update directly from my phone and then root with this method .. if i do that will my phone have the latest radio wimax added on to it already?

First off thank you for the easy root But now I have an issue, the SD card wont work, looks like it wont find the extension anyone know how to fix this? Ive used many different card and none read but I know all work. Without this I cant do a ROM
Try reformatting the card? Did they work before you rooted? do they work again if you unroot?
They worked before the root, I didn't unroot yet. When you out then in the phone and go to the SD card setting it shows nothing. Just says unavailable. So I can't even format it on the phone. I've formatted them in many ways on the pc too
HTC EVO = my best friend
did you try pulling out the sdcard and putting it back in? does it show a blank sdcard, or no sdcard at all?

[BOOT] Unsecured Boot.img to Root 2.3.3 with S-Off

*Info*
Sorry for Posting this again. This Post was deleted from XDA without any reason. So here it is... back again, cause some people asked for it.
Hey Guys,
so if you have the same problem like me, that superoneklick tool hangs at “Running psneuter” than you should give this a try.
this works only on s-off devices. all you s-on´s you have to wait for other options or find someone with a xtc clip.

DISCLAIMER: i´m not responsible for bricking your device. do everything in this guide at your own risk.
- download the PG88IMG-unsecured_bootimg.zip
- rename it to “PG88IMG.zip”
- put it on the root of your SD card
- reboot into hboot and wait.
PG88IMG-unsecured_bootimg.zip
bootloader will automaticly chack this file (ignore the security flag ;-) ) and flash this unsecured boot.img.
reboot your phone and use superoneklick tool the normal way.
rename the PG88IMG.zip to something else or the bootloader will try to flash it every time when the phone starts in bootloader.
hope this will help those who could root even with s-off.
kind regards

Well, this is good, and probably makes superoneclick work, but isn't it much easier to use Gingerbreak instead ?? I'm thinking since everyone is using this method, Gingerbreak must have a few cons. Can anyone tell me what they are? Or am i better off using gingerbreak after i S-OFF with a XTC Clip?
I used this then super one click and it was literally that, very easy.
Would recommend that need method, after reading disclaimer.

I dont understand why people would still want to use this?
Isnt it redundant now since gingerbreaks out.
Once your s-off Gingerbreak works a treat, no need to flash a boot.img

you have to update your kernel. this unsecured bootimage contains an old kernel and no mudules for wifi or else.
after you got root you have to flash clockworkmod recovery and than a custom rom from this forum to get a working kernel with it´s modules.
this bootimage is only for rooting and flashing recovery... after that you have to reflash an actual kernel which is in every custom rom here.
hope that helps
regards
p.s this boot img is from times whre gingerbreak didn´t work for the desire s... since gingerbreak 1.2 roots every desire s with s-off there is no need for that way of rooting.
some people wanted this again after it was deleted... there is no need for this until gingerbreak works very well.

Newest cellular radio 1.08.01.0111 (02/03/2012), touchscreen firmware flashable zip

http://goo-inside.me/roms/VICODAN/PG06IMG.zip
MD5sum: 1405fd7b80048fb7d733dc5d918bf879
Improvements:
Faster 3G speeds
Better battery life
WAY more responsive touchscreen
Phone in general feels more responsive
Better cellular reception
WARNING!: Please make sure your battery is charged before flashing!
Cellular Radio 1.08.01.0111, new touchscreen firmware. Yes, it will bypass 1 of 3 on TP, this is normal.
Not sure why but WiMAX radio 27243 (March 2011 for Evo 4G NOT SHIFT) is included in this zip from HTC.
Either way drop the PG06IMG.zip on the root of your sdcard, hold volume down and press the power button and release while holding down the volume down button.
A white screen will come up asking you if you want to update. If it doesn't ask, choose bootloader. Say yes and it will update your phone. This has been tested on multiple phones and works.
Here is a video on how to do it:

wimax is an error...
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
You need root to run this command, again, the wimax radio included was for Evo. Ask HTC.
No... By the screenshot and the endless logcat errors, there is an issue with the wimax radio in the zip. I'm not blaming anyone, but you might wanna pull the link... I'm actually thankful that I didn't lose my wimax keys...

you can do this much cleaner by just running a sqlite command to set all the values instead of pushing a different db in.
for rom devs, you can change this in the framework where the apn is stored, that way it gets put into the database this way.

what? sqlite is built into android, how do think it uses that sqlite file? lol
you can run an adb shell command to do the same thing.
just throwing up other options for the op to check out..
sweet bro, thanks
Not familiar with AT&T but I'm curious about this. Does AT&T offer a specific plan for data with dethering and another one without the ability to do so? Or is this a "fix" for the tethering feature on the stock ROMs or custom ROMs? Or a bit of both?
One reason I ask is because WiFi Hotspot isn't working on the current ROM I'm on.
Thanks in advance for the info guys.

At&T charges 50 bucks a month for the data plan that includes tethering.
Great tool! I was able to use SQLite to make tethering working.
Hey guys I tried doing it via sqlite and via this method, both gives me FC when android boots up. It says "unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped". I cant get into my phone and it just bootloops. Any ideas?

:O
That's ridiculous! Data is data I don't get it. I know Rogers has a limitation where anything 500MB or lower doesn't support tethering, but with the 1GB plan and up you're good and 1GB is $30/mo by default. I'm on a 6GB promo plan for the same $30 price. I'm glad this mod is out for you guys!!

I tried searching the various one x forums for another way to do this. What ADB commands are necessary to change the file. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

i am rooted on 1.73
edit - hm i think i need to install android sdk again lol havnt been using one since captivate wow
Has anyone tested this on the the Cleanrom 2.1? Is it just the telephone db that this changes?

Good point! That would be another way to do it, I wouldn't say one method is 'cleaner' then the other though.

Rom developers will probably start having this fix preloaded in their roms but this should work for the ones that don't have it yet!

Not sure what changes you applied in sqlite but I would suggest just reflashing a new rom to fix your dialer then running this tool to get the tether fix.

in adb you would type something like:
adb shell sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db "update carriers set apn = 'pta' where _id = 12;"

I didn't test with that rom but it should work. Yes, it just modifies the telephony db.
