It's already begun. This is a Desire HD. There is plenty already available, including CM7.

what doesnt work on cm7 for it?

Well the thing is, we have to wait n see what bootloader it has, if it the old one or the one that we can downgrade, then we can root, and if we can root, ummm im pretty positive we can flash any rom from the Desire HD rom section.

I already have a root procedure in mind that I think will work. The HBOOT doesn't matter - the exploit in the newer HTC devices was not in the HBOOT. But the radio version does.

Momentarily. The Aria will still need support for CM. I'm it. This device is established and has good support already. We just need to document the procedure to root and get custom recovery on it, which will be a little more complex than the Euro DHD.

regoice, the great and mighty attn1 has come to the inspire, not sure if its a good thing or not as i still am using my aria but.... oh well.

I will have this phone when it comes out on the 13th, looking forward to some modding. I'm coming from an iphone, JB, customized etc, it's no longer any fun. Hope the roms work and the root is easily attainable, I will be back in here when i get the phone....5 days

I will be getting one of these on launch, though I'm not sure if stores are going to have the phone for a more expensive price than what's shown online. I'm coming from an HTC Fuze and this will be a big improvement for me....now I'll have a nice shiny new gadget to sleep with.
I'm hoping that by some stroke of luck I'll get one that allows sideloading but if not, there are ways around that....I don't like my devices being locked in any way. How long does it generally take to root new phones when they're out? I'm new to Android (been a WM person for quite a few years now) so I'm still trying to read as much as I possibly can about the OS and how it works.

I was a WM user for a long time as well.
Once I owned Android Id never go back to anything else.
The complexity of rooting is dependent on the device.
Some phones are rooted even before launch day, hahaha.

Looking forward to getting the Inspire as well, really thinking that I'll get one at launch. From all indication this should be very similar to DHD. Hopefully the device will be rooted very quick.

I seriously hope we have a root on launch day lol, i mean stock sense is ok but I can only deal w it for so long.

Thanks for the information! Yeah I'm looking forward to this Sunday - I'm probably going to just go in the store when it opens and grab one up then waste the ENTIRE DAY tinkering with it and giggling like a baby with candy.
One thing I didn't see in those articles was the radio firmware for the phone. I've installed and tested... quite a few radios on my Fuze in order to achieve the best possible phone and GPS signal I can get. Is this possible once the phone is rooted?

Looks like the Canadian version from the carrier Telus launched today. From what I've read we should be able to flash that modems soft/firmware and get the full advantage of functioning hsupa. I also will be wasting my entire day in tinkertown lol.

All signs point to yes, undoubtedly we are going to blow this Inspire 4G up with root goodness, then once we get a custom recovery BAM! custom roms are soon to come after that. Overclocking the phone will yield results similar to Dual Core devices as posted by me in another thread.
The real power of this phone will shine brightly after all the above

As rwon said our Canadian friends have the Inspire / Desire HD now too, the dev ezterry that brought and continues to provide so much to the HTC Dream / G1 community is from there so the talent is definitely of high caliber up north from us.
The MotoDur Atrix to me is seeming to be a bad product already and it hasn't even launched yet, hahaha

So is it safe to go buy the dhd right now? Think there will be root forthe telus desire hd? I can get contract price out of contract today

work of art.
I'm working on a 2.2-specific game right now. My Android experience is on an Ion with an engineering SPL. After reading a bit about how root has gone for newer-model HTC phones, I was saddened by the prospect of having FroYo sitting in AOSP for the taking, but having my phone refuse to take any non-Sprint-blessed medicine awaiting root.
Like the rest of you, I'm hopeful that this method is easy, stable, safe, and successful. I'm also hopeful that the WiMAX support in FroYo is compatible with this phone.
Great work guys!
Any ideas when you guys will be releasing the exploit? I am dying to delete some of these apps and have access to root programs!
i'd say that we probably shouldn't expect to find the methods for root until at least the evo comes out... maybe a few weeks after so HTC can't patch it immediately.

I highly doubt they'd stop the release of the device (with the hype that they have going for this phone) to fix an exploit, then go back into testing. Knowing Sprint / HTC that would prevent them from getting it out on the 4th.
In all reality the amount of people that buy this phone, less than 5% will root it. Some could argue that % is high even. With all the people I've met with Hero's... only one person has it rooted. He's a computer nerd like myself, and he doesn't even flash nearly as often as I do... maybe once every few months...
ill now its true when its on my phone and i have all the sprint bloat gone

Awesome work guys!
I wonder if they have system write access too or if this is a limited root like the Desire and Legend.
This is quite amazing, a week and a half before launch and already there's a method for root. Hopefully the guys behind it can give out the instructions on June 4th.
Its a shame really..but with all the shenanigans its hard to just say great job. I am grateful if this is indeed true as I have already pre ordered mine and would love root on it.
Its almost as if your not doubting that they gained root, but more that you question yourself if what they say is true lol...make any sense?
If this is true, great work.

Should I?

I am looking for a good android phone on at&t. It seems that the captivate is the only really good choice. is it worth it? also, how easy is it to root? I understand that recent app for rooting does not work on the captivate.
If you can get something else on another carrier, do it. If you can wait for something else. Do it.
If you HAVE to get an Android Phone, RIGHT NOW, on THIS NETWORK, then yes Captivate.
But otherwise, NO ****ING WAY BOOOOO CAPTIVATE.

No, rooting has been made simple. Do yourself a favor and read, read and read some more before you try anything. It's best to know you can recover when you make an oopsie, we've all made at least one.
added: and welcome to the forums!
I'd say get the HTC Aria - it is on par performance wise with today's phones. It works. It can be rooted and overclocked. You can run Cyanogen Mod on it out of the box.
But... it is not the fastest phone that AT&T has today.
I love my Captivate... when it works.
But with non-working GPS (and flaky when after much tweaking I do get it up and running.)
And now the phone is suffering from shutdowns after I charge the phone all the way up. Will need to warranty it to hopefully get a build # that will "work".
..... Good thing is that XDA has a rocking' community for this phone - and for those it works for - it is a great phone.
So - its ultimately up to you. Good Luck

If you are going for speed then you need either the Cappy or the x10, nothing else AT&T has comes close.
Personally between the 1GHZ, 16gb of storage and the beautiful screen, I wouldn't trade my Cappy for any other phone on the market, even though the GPS is crap.
No issues w/ my Cappy... GPS works accurately everytime (shhh!) there's just minor lag when I reboot the phone until the media stops scanning. one-click root will take you longer to download the app to your PC than it will to root it.

Sidekick 4g vs MyTouch 4g Slide(Ordered myTouch)

T mobile is offering me a choice between a Sidekick 4g and a myTouch 4g slide.... I've read the specs and seems the mytouch is higher end but want to know opinions from users who know whats what. like I said I've read the specs already so I am trying to look past the black and white.
_____________
OK now I have the phone on it's way. I know I can't get s-off but would like to know what I can and can't do until that solution has been found. I am also reading up so not looking for the lazy way out.

Pretty sure the Sidekick has reported A LOT of hardware problems.... check there forums here as well, but I do recall it being a high-problem phone.
You can't possibly go wrong with this device.
Developer "Blue61X" has even bought two of these devices because he loves it so much. if that helps

I'm leaning this way.... haven't had much chance to explore this forum yet... Is it possible to get s-off yet?
Yea, it's great. I can't see anything else coming close to it for a while in it's class ( hardware keyboard )
The stock battery is not great - and that's being polite.
You can find links to the battery threads in the contents page of my sticky in dev - basically you have the cheaper Anker or the more expensive Mugen to choose from to replace it with.
If you have/want to spend the money, the Mugen is great - I rock an Anker myself and love it.
Make use of the tv-out through the headphones jack, I play a lot of games output to a tv screen and the device stays alive and active while you are hooked up. I'm sure you can imagine how much more fun racing games and many others will be like this.
You can also find links to the tv threads in the dev reference, which will tell you what cable to get.
I have a Trident case on my primary, and love it. There's a decent thread on cases, but I've been pretty busy around here and haven't had the chance to update it in a while. I'll get back to it sometime.
Once you change a few keymappings, update with my gps fix and start really playing with it you'll love it.
Any specific questions just toss 'em out there - but there is no other device now or that we know of coming that I would trade this for.

Depends. For the new update, which you'll have, you got a chance with the HTC unlock tool - if that works you can do most stuff.
We are actively working on a downgrade to S-OFF option - this led to me getting S-OFF to S -ON for us a couple hours ago and I'll be bringing one of my devices up to the S-ON locked state you'll get it in later tonight.
Then I'll be able to actually try stuff instead of us guessing - all the devs working on the fix were S-OFF already so figuring out how to flip it S-ON was a big step in productivity. Once I update in S -ON, I'm stuck until we figure it out - so don't worry man, right there with ya.
HTC should have the issue resolved and restart the OTA in the not too distant future.

DO NOT SIDEKICK 4G i have that phone and its slow as ****, no roms, very hard to put clockwork mod on it,
the olny good thing about it is the keyboard and i personally prefer the mytouch 4g slides keybaord
@ Blue: looking forward to the success of your work and all that I can learn from you and the other devs. I personally use the Samsung galaxy s 4g and am getting this phone to replace my wife's mt3gs and think I'm going to be jealous from the little bit that I've read.
@wiswis: already placed the order for the mytouch. I posted something similar to this in the sidekick forum and plenty of people have viewed but no post. They made the decision very easy.
Thank you everyone for your input.
Definitely the mt4gs

Just a little word about the GPS. On the 1.28.531.10 stock ROM, your GPS fix was a huge improvement. However, now that I'm on the 1.55.531.3 stock ROM, the GPS is lightening quick and accurate without any adjustments on my part. HTC must have done some serious tweaking to the GPS code in this ROM.

You know, I wasn't thinking when I wrote that - there was a bunch of GPS stuff that was pushed for the new update, a new SUPL cert and gps.conf file. I meant to take a look at it to see what they did and if it still needed help or not, but haven't had a chance to yet.
Hopefully I'll have the presence of mind to pull them from my other phone now that it's up to date stovk

If you read the specs alone it should be nothing but obvious what phone to choose its like asking should i go with a free geo or a BMW .........
i think you get the idea by now, but i'll just say, the keyboard is the ONLY POSSIBLE reason you might choose the SK. i've had both, and there is no comparison... MT4GS all the way.
LMFAO! Screw the damn keyboard. I can't wait to dig into this phone and see what it can do. Only downside is my wife said I only get one weekend to set it up before she takes it away. NOW that I have the phone on order and I'll only have the weekend to mess with it any suggestions on what I should start with until s-off is achieved?
Depends what hboot u get. If u get the older one, ur in business. Ez to root and s-off.
Use rubix ics 5.2 with my directions on page 148 of its thread on rootzwiki, if u want stability with everything working and super fast. If she wants ics, tbalden's rom probably. But all the 4.0.X roms are still a work in progress.

[Q] Rooting...Please Don't Hate Me For Asking But I'm Torn

Shoudl I root??? I want to but I'm not to sure if its the right decision. Since the day I got this phone I've seen thread after thread of problems only seen after rooting. I've gone about 4 months without doing anything to my One S and have had no issues, but now I want to move to T-Mobiles unlimited plan but I still want tethering and from what I understand, that's the only way to keep it. I've been looking for some sort of deciding factor in it all but can't find one. Please help me decide?

Rooting is easy, but takes some research and knowledge. If you can't even learn why you should root yourself, you probably aren't ready to do it either.

The only risk you partake is that you may void your warranty for unlocking the bootloader.

To clarify, you don't lose the sense camera by rooting! You lose the sense camera by installing a Rom that is not sense based: any aosp rom like cyanogen mod. Any Rom that is based on sense like viper, or trick droid, you will have a fully functioning sense camera.

To answer your question directly, rooting this phone is easy and no negatives if you read a lot and understand wty may be voided and if you screw up, chance of losing a phone. But, you already know that from the other rooting you mentioned you did.
Most people that have issues don't wait long enough to learn phone and don't study the process enough. Reading just one root thread is not enough. I spent weeks reading everything I could before rooting my N1.
Benefits outweigh risks. I would root just to get Nandroids and Titanium Backup.
To me this is a hobby as at the end of the day, it is still a phone with email/internet.
Sorry, that wasn't a direct answer. But, no more risks rooting this phone than any other. Just know if you are S3 or S4 and what hboot you have before flashing roms.
Also, if you can't find a strong reason to root, I wouldn't--this phone can stand on its own--

Thank you very much for your input, I appreciate it. I agree with everything you said especially the part about the phone being able to stand on its own, I've had it for months and its great. I will be making my decision by the end of the night haha. (Jeez, you'd think I wouldn't have to put so much importance on a phone :/)
Jeez, you'd think I wouldn't have to put so much importance on a phone :/)
You are not the only one--
Good Luck on whatever you do--
I will add one more thought--I have been doing this for several years back to early Cyanogen/Modaco on my N1 on the Nexus One Forum. Hundreds of flashes and can say I am getting a little tapped out. I may not root myself when I get my next phone. They have come so far from those early days-- hear tell the next generation phones will have my coffee ready when I get up--

That's what I thought about this one, but every time my finger accidentally hit some idiotic bloat app or I couldn't launch a YouTube link with the app, it pissed me off. With the exception of the iPhone, all modern smartphones really need to be rooted to pry the carrier's fingers out of the deep crevices of your $600 pocket computer.
yes, excellent points on the bloat. that's why odds are I would still root for the features I mentioned above and maybe skip the continuous flashing of custom roms--
however, with more memory and speed coming the bloat may not be a factor. and, I think we can kinda freeze some of these apps now. haven't paid much attention to that feature as I rooted same day i got phone--
I waited a few weeks, then waited a few more weeks after rooting and debloating, but the allure of CM was too strong. I just cant stand the disjointed look of Sense.
CM10 is running pretty good--flashing nightlies
Guess we're getting of topic, or may entice OP to root--

Sprint LS997 variant updated to ZV9

I just got the update and for the first time it was nice to be up to date with security patches for a change lol... the previous updates were usually a month or two behind..
But the download didn't specify fixes or improvements, I wonder if anyone knows a way to find out if there are any, like at the sprint website with a change log.. I can't seem to find one as I used to find one with previous phones with sprint.
the update was about 650 mb.
and nobody to update it to zv9. Seems the rom community has halted.
hi guys my phone update to zv8 can i do downgrade firmware to zv6 or earlier ?
No u cant unfortunately
I'm almost willing to forego my root and hotspot for an updated phone at this point. Particularly because every rom I've tried has been a goddamn Bluetooth nightmare, and somehow I suspect aosp isn't going to be better because I've never had a phone run aosp without Bluetooth issues, and I've tried 9 phones.
Hey guys, this is a new phone to me (was rocking a release date Note 3 until last week), and unfamiliar with this forum specifically. (Not sure how I like sticking all the carrier variants in one section, but given the relative obscurity of the phone, I guess it makes sense...)
This seems like as good as any place to ask fellow Sprint V20 user w/o creating a new(b) thread unnecessarily?
I'm also on the ZV9, and it's been so long since I've had an unrooted phone, I had forgotten how much of a pain in the ass it is. True adblocking alone is driving my need for root here.
Is my phone rootable with this version of software? Is the Dirty Santa the way to go? Thanks in advance!

Ugh. Thanks for the response.
The phone is brilliant (after rocking the same phone for over 4 years, even last years phone feels like magic), but this might end up being a deal breaker for me.
Do you know off the top of your head what carrier models are still rootable?
My MNVO carrier (Ting) has other options of carrier models I can use, but T-Mob seems to be the most compatible.
Either way, thanks again for the quick response. ((I apologize for the non-searching, noobish questions, it's been a few years since I was an XDAddict, and still feeling my way around this new forum section.))

No s**t. That's abysmal. How long has this model been like this? Is root a WIP, or a done deal unless LG/carriers relinquish?
I swear to F'ing gawd, this is the last time I buy a device w/o researching the ... heck out of it here first. IDK what I was thinking.

yeah, the unpaid work of XDA devs is a thankless job. I try to make donations to devs that have made my life better.
And I suspect with the relative obscurity of this phone, there won't be much more root dev'ing happening at all.
Might have to make a new device gameplan. And I really, really, never want to go back to Samsung.
Thanks for entertaining my questions, you've been helpful, man.

I just got the v20 ls 997 also has zv9 preinstalled. I've been reading the forums and there is still active work on root for these phones. Thats all I know. Seems like they are trying to create a kdz or tot file since sprint never released one for this phone. Also there is a thread about creating a universal lg bootloader solution. I think there is some active work in the G6 forum and they talk about how it could help other models.... Just keeping my fingers crossed because I too haven't had a nonrooted phone in about 5 years and I don't like it. nope. don't like it one bit. The v20 is good but would be a dream if I could get root. heres to staying hopeful and keeping an eye on the resale market value.

Interesting! Good info, I'm still digging through this forums on this device, trying to wrap my head around it.
This really is a 'best bang for the buck' phone right now, esp if one is on a budget, getting a slightly older device. (I was limited to 300 or less by the wife in my search for a device to replace my old Note3) Plus the removable batt, the SD card use, a jack, a great cam...
I don't even use root that extensively (not a flashaholic anymore), but for the 2 or 3 reasons I do, it's important.

I switch ROMs but really just being able to block all the ads! I didn't realize there was so many. And creating a back up shouldn't be so hard. Don't even get me started on all the background stuff apps are doing! And really there are so many great features missing from stock experience.

Yup. That's the NUMBER ONE reason for me. True adblocking.
Been doing my normal browsing for the last week on this unrooted device, and (long stream of explitives here) the amount ads that I had forgotten about are stunning.
Getting rid of bloatware would be nice as well.
Have to admit though, stock LG isn't horrible, compared to Samsung.
(used all my thanks for the day, damnit)
anybody knows if zv9 nougat version for sprint lg v20 can be gsm unlocked?

I've been using Ad-guard and does a pretty good job at blocking ads for the most part.
