HTC Inspire 4G videos - HTC Inspire 4G

I know this is the wrong thread for the HTC Inspire 4G, but since we don't have a dedicated section for the handset yet, I thought this would be the best place to share these links. AT&T sent me a demo unit for the phone and I have recorded a few videos to show off the handset's functionality and performance.

Nice! Thanks a lot for the videos.
I was wondering the same thing - why no sub forum for Inspire yet? Anyways, I hear people are concerned over the battery life, as the specs are almost identical to the desire HD. What are your impressions on the battery life? With typical usage, will it last till night? Is 24 hours pushing it? I love everything else about this phone!

Itching for an upgrade!

Yes, this phone does have support for AT&T's HSPA+ network. Keep in mind that the 4G speeds may still change since AT&T is not officially launching is until March 1st.

Also, I've updated the original post with another video.

Nice vids, thanks! How's battery life even under constant use? As I normally am always using my phone.

Might just be that area, I get faster than that with my Hero here in Baltimore.

The Inspire IS a Desire HD. The only difference is that this version has support for AT&T's 3G bands.

Battery life has been OK, but not great. Under constant use, the HTC Inspire lasted about 9 hours yesterday. Keep in mind I was testing apps, running benchmarkes, and such. I'll hopfully get a much better result today as I'm back in the office and will use it for day-to-day pursposes.
I'll be doing some camera testing later on and i'll be sure to post a link once I have sample images and video to show off.

I was looking at getting the motorola atrix but off contract it's too expensive. This phone looks awesome with htc sense, blows my iphone 4 out of the water. Can't wait!!!

And here's another post with smaple images and videos from the HTC Inspire 4G. Hope you enjoy. The link has also been added to the original thread.

I would be surprised if rooting and sideloading isnt't possible by the first day I wouldnt think it would much different than the DesireHD. Custom rom will be able to be ported from the Desire HD thread i would think.
edit: forgot that someone will have to start deveoping a custom kernel too but I am sure we wont have to wait very long still

Check out the Android Development section on the Inspire 4G.
I've made a thread link to a program so we can manually push market apps we have bought and others that are not available on the market.
Its worked for other phones, now all we have to do is test it and see if it works for the Inspire as well.
Nothing can replace root on a phone but this is just a temporary alternative until someone truly genius gets to work on the Inspire.

I got the inspire 4g early

I got the Inspire 4G. It really is a nice device. It truly is a re-badged Desire HD. HTC has forgotten to change some of the BT menus so they even still say Desire HD.
The software set is fairly decent and unrestrictive. There is a fair amount of AT&T Bloatware that can't just be uninstalled (normal).
I have been up all morning trying to find a version of SWYPE that hasn't expired that has a matching screen resolution for the phone. Even being part of the beta you can sideload the swype app but then the app itself wants to install a separate language pack which the phone blocks.
Feel free to PM suggestions or post questions.

pics or it never haappened ;D sweet. So who was it that thought they had a rroot procedure?
I got it early via an HTC Release party for the phone. I work for AT&T.

HEEEECCKK yes, hsupa FTW Man reading these posts has me stoked, I think I am more excited about this phone than when I got my iPhone.
Early reports have suggested that the RUU downgrade (in order to root) is causing sound to fail on the Telus Desire HD. So tread cautiously with your Inspires. Maybe they changed the audio hardware and the older firmwares don't have a driver for it?

One person who got the sound bug just got his DHD replaced and won't try again until it is safe. Another user who got it too - has said he will try reflashing the Telus RUU when he gets home in a few hours. If that succeeds then at least we know there's a safety net.
The sound bug is fixed already. i'm running a euro rom on mine with working sound. Everything will be available shortly.
Btw flashing the att ruu fixed any issues i had with sound so there is a safety net.

Good to hear.
Gonna get the phone on monday, i'm sure a lot will be accomplished by sunday evening.

Suprised at the lack of interest!

Seems devs are not flooding to this phone like they did with the TBolt, I have tbolt for work and Charge for personal right now and I do a fair bit of customization.
I got to say I cannot recommend the tbolt over the charge except if you MUST do voice calling and have data at the same time.
Hoping more Devs hop on board this great little phone!
It was the same when the Epic came out for Sprint. The Evo had the better development out of the two. Not that one is better than the other IMO. I have both the charge and the Thunderbolt as well.
I'm guessing it's because in essence if you already have the bolt why bother with a phone that's almost identical...

People that wanted 4G went with the Thunderbolt, and likely are "stuck" with it now due to contracts. Why spend another $600 to get a similar device. People that don't care about 4G are waiting for dual core phones, or if they are less concerned with 4G, a more up-to-date 4G phone. Plus, it is a Samsung phone which isn't exactly the easiest to work with from a development standpoint.
I got to say I cannot recommend the tbolt over the charge except if you MUST do voice calling and have data at the same time.
Are you saying that you can't do voice and data at the same time on the Charge? I saw a video where it was possible on youtube, but you make it sound like it is not possible.

It's only possible if you are in a 4G area. The Thunderbolt has an SVDO and LTE radio, which allows it to do voice/data with 3G or 4G coverage.

Yeah, only 3g in my area. I'm in 4g areas quite often tho.
Don't worry about it: when imnuts releases his recovery and root/Voodoo/UV/BLN kernel package, you'll have everything you need functionality-wise anyway in one fell swoop. Then you just need a bored themer to port some stuff and make it look shiny...
(No pressure, imnuts. )

thubderbolt best 4g Verizon phone?

ok guys i need ur gelp, i only got a 1/2 hour to decide. i found a great deal on a tb but i dont know if i should get it.
are you guys happy with the phone?
would u get a diff 4g phone
how is the batt?
a list of pros n cons would be great
might buy it for 175 used. i got burn with the fascinate and i dont wanna do the same.
tge reason i want a 4g phone is to lock in unlimited 4g before the limited plans get in.
Best 4g lte phone imo. Just make sure to get an extended battery down the road.
Great speeds
OK screen
Great dev support
Not so great battery life on standard battery

Get the damn TB. Put some BAMF on it. Enjoy.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
I can usually get from 8-16 hours from the thunderbolt on the standard battery, depending on use of course. I am sitting in wifi mostly, running das Bamf 1.8.6 right now. Over the weekend, I got 28 hours on a single charge on 3G, but I didn't use it much at all - just emails, a few websites but there was about an hour of pandora in there.
If you're interested in rooting/ROMing, I think the TB is definitely the best choice
I thought the Samsung phone was pretty good. Ofcourse I am not sure if it is worth the extra money, it probably sells for more than TB.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Not saying this cause I own one, thunderbolt hands down. The development community alone should be enough to make it the most appealing LTE device.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I was wondering the same thing. Hardware wise the charge is superior but developer wise the thunderbolt has more support. I bought my tbolt used in like new condition for $350. The price jacked up once the tiered data plans were leaked. At $175 check to make sure the esn is clean and then go for it!

No, hahah sorry kinda stressed out abou it for some reason
I am getting it just in case they say u can't be grandfathered in for the 4g. I don't even have 4g here but 4g is the future and I only pay 10 for unlimited ( I got this crazy promotional deal last November) n I don't wanna lose it when I do get 4g around here.
I have to say I'm impressed with the Thunderbolt, and I'm not an Android guy. Well Im totally an Android guy, now. If I had gotten any other phone available currently, I would have passed it off in a week.
The thunderbolt's quality combined with developer support and the online community just form a smartphone-holy trinity.
I have an iPad 2, iPad, iPhone 4, and Thunderbolt. The short battery life the first three days was a con. Then I started customizing my settings, and about 3 hours after ordering an extended battery I realized "Oh ****, I've been pushing this dude pretty hard for 10 hours."
Needless to say, I only use it when I'm going to be out all night and she's pretty enough that I may not charge it first thing in the morning.
Rooted Thunderbolt on BAMF Sense 3.0 RC 4 with MR2 radio and latest dreamKernel.
By the way, I see you're in Queens. I work in Long Island City and get great 4g speeds. About 25 down and 5 up.

you keep unlimited as long as you keep your plan (3g/4g doesn't make a difference), they have said that as long as you are unlimited with smartphone data, you are good (according to engadget). If you change your base plan in any way, then you will lose the unlimited data.
Thunderbolt is a great phone with minor hiccups stock. Charge has better battery life and a better screen. Thunderbolt has a lot better dev support as do most htc products. Thunderbolt comes with 40gb total memory, not sure about the Charge.
Every Charge I've played with has just dragged. I attribute it to the way Samsung distributed the ram. Their battery life sucks too. I can get 2 days out of my TB. I've used a Charge that regularly loses 40% in 3 hours.

Had an issue that was within 14 days of purchase and they gave me a new in box. Yeah I know people will ***** I screwed verizon but people have a job and should be trained. Since I have had no problems, love the Roms put out and 4g is great.

I like my TB, but this is my first Android phone so I can't really compare. People have gone over the pros for the phone, and I agree with them. Here are a couple of potential cons. #1 is the phone sound quality. I personally don't find it that great, and to me Verizon iPhone (my wife has one) sounds better. I thought the phone amp was such a basic part that it should never be an issue, but surprisingly it is an issue for me. #2 is the 4g battery drain bug. The good thing is that not everyone has it, and I hope MR2 radio finally fixes it (testing that right now). Other than that it has been a great phone for me, and I am definitely enjoying the dev support, thanks to the devs and people offering help on this forum!

You can't unlock this phone to Tmobile. GSM vs CDMA.
The other questions are a moot point unless you're gonna pony up and get Verizon.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
Someone must have told him it has a GSM antenna (4g which obviously wont work with his 3g connection), which it does for LTE/data, but does tmobile use LTE or any sort of cdma for voice/3g data? Nope.
You'll have an expensive pda you can use with wifi and nothing more if you get a thunderbolt and try to use it on tmobile.
If your gunna go to any other provider, why on earth would you go to one that requires a contract? Metro PC's baby...

Ya know, there's about 3 of these "Best ROM/recommend a ROM" threads started EVERY WEEK. They usually say the same thing: I want gingerbread, Sense 3.0, completely issue free, smooth as butter, and practically infinite battery life... What ROM is best for me?
Did you even look at the specs? Did you look at the other couple dozen threads like this? I'm not trying to beat on ya, but really, this looks like 3 completely uninformed questions tossed out there, posed in a manner as to expect some concise and objective answers.... from people who've exhibited more desire to learn and research than the poser of such questions. Within these forums are the answers to every question you'll ever ask before you own the device. Searching them is easy.
But to answer them nonetheless, with pure opinion:
1)Chingy's
2)impossible.
3)depends.

I have used Th3ory roms since I have rooted my phone , I have not used any other roms but I hear that this is one of the best roms for the thunderbolt and has great respond time if you have problems or questions.

Sidekick 4g vs MyTouch 4g Slide(Ordered myTouch)

T mobile is offering me a choice between a Sidekick 4g and a myTouch 4g slide.... I've read the specs and seems the mytouch is higher end but want to know opinions from users who know whats what. like I said I've read the specs already so I am trying to look past the black and white.
_____________
OK now I have the phone on it's way. I know I can't get s-off but would like to know what I can and can't do until that solution has been found. I am also reading up so not looking for the lazy way out.

Pretty sure the Sidekick has reported A LOT of hardware problems.... check there forums here as well, but I do recall it being a high-problem phone.
You can't possibly go wrong with this device.
Developer "Blue61X" has even bought two of these devices because he loves it so much. if that helps

I'm leaning this way.... haven't had much chance to explore this forum yet... Is it possible to get s-off yet?
Yea, it's great. I can't see anything else coming close to it for a while in it's class ( hardware keyboard )
The stock battery is not great - and that's being polite.
You can find links to the battery threads in the contents page of my sticky in dev - basically you have the cheaper Anker or the more expensive Mugen to choose from to replace it with.
If you have/want to spend the money, the Mugen is great - I rock an Anker myself and love it.
Make use of the tv-out through the headphones jack, I play a lot of games output to a tv screen and the device stays alive and active while you are hooked up. I'm sure you can imagine how much more fun racing games and many others will be like this.
You can also find links to the tv threads in the dev reference, which will tell you what cable to get.
I have a Trident case on my primary, and love it. There's a decent thread on cases, but I've been pretty busy around here and haven't had the chance to update it in a while. I'll get back to it sometime.
Once you change a few keymappings, update with my gps fix and start really playing with it you'll love it.
Any specific questions just toss 'em out there - but there is no other device now or that we know of coming that I would trade this for.

Depends. For the new update, which you'll have, you got a chance with the HTC unlock tool - if that works you can do most stuff.
We are actively working on a downgrade to S-OFF option - this led to me getting S-OFF to S -ON for us a couple hours ago and I'll be bringing one of my devices up to the S-ON locked state you'll get it in later tonight.
Then I'll be able to actually try stuff instead of us guessing - all the devs working on the fix were S-OFF already so figuring out how to flip it S-ON was a big step in productivity. Once I update in S -ON, I'm stuck until we figure it out - so don't worry man, right there with ya.
HTC should have the issue resolved and restart the OTA in the not too distant future.

DO NOT SIDEKICK 4G i have that phone and its slow as ****, no roms, very hard to put clockwork mod on it,
the olny good thing about it is the keyboard and i personally prefer the mytouch 4g slides keybaord
@ Blue: looking forward to the success of your work and all that I can learn from you and the other devs. I personally use the Samsung galaxy s 4g and am getting this phone to replace my wife's mt3gs and think I'm going to be jealous from the little bit that I've read.
@wiswis: already placed the order for the mytouch. I posted something similar to this in the sidekick forum and plenty of people have viewed but no post. They made the decision very easy.
Thank you everyone for your input.
Definitely the mt4gs

Just a little word about the GPS. On the 1.28.531.10 stock ROM, your GPS fix was a huge improvement. However, now that I'm on the 1.55.531.3 stock ROM, the GPS is lightening quick and accurate without any adjustments on my part. HTC must have done some serious tweaking to the GPS code in this ROM.

You know, I wasn't thinking when I wrote that - there was a bunch of GPS stuff that was pushed for the new update, a new SUPL cert and gps.conf file. I meant to take a look at it to see what they did and if it still needed help or not, but haven't had a chance to yet.
Hopefully I'll have the presence of mind to pull them from my other phone now that it's up to date stovk

If you read the specs alone it should be nothing but obvious what phone to choose its like asking should i go with a free geo or a BMW .........
i think you get the idea by now, but i'll just say, the keyboard is the ONLY POSSIBLE reason you might choose the SK. i've had both, and there is no comparison... MT4GS all the way.
LMFAO! Screw the damn keyboard. I can't wait to dig into this phone and see what it can do. Only downside is my wife said I only get one weekend to set it up before she takes it away. NOW that I have the phone on order and I'll only have the weekend to mess with it any suggestions on what I should start with until s-off is achieved?
Depends what hboot u get. If u get the older one, ur in business. Ez to root and s-off.
Use rubix ics 5.2 with my directions on page 148 of its thread on rootzwiki, if u want stability with everything working and super fast. If she wants ics, tbalden's rom probably. But all the 4.0.X roms are still a work in progress.
