CM7/miui/Froyo sense(2.29.405.5) - for CustomMTD's addicts ! - Desire Android Development

All 3 roms fit on a 112 mb system partition, which means you can have 320 mb for CM/Miui or so for /data, 180 or so for the Sense rom,on top of that you got sd-ext, will never need more space !
-the CM7 is from now the nightly, build by the CM team.
-the miui latest is their work, English translation from the miui-dev.com
-the sense is from HTC, their OTA, with the latest 2.29.405.5 patch applyed
FOR CM 7 & Miui:
Now what i did is to create for each of this roms an update pack which you gotta flash over the roms at the end.
What's in them:
-App2sdext with binds (not symlinks), by default all the user application go to sd-ext, but you can move them around, see below.
(made by Firerat), integration solution from EzTerry pretty much.
-ApkManager(ApkManager.sh) - by Firerat again, this little tool will allow you to move application around your system, to sd-ext or to internal, your choice, you can even batch move them, also can have some on internal, some on sd-ext, no problem.
-Kernels: the updates contain vork's latest for GB (CM7), the MIUI has the original kernel, it seams more stable.
-dalvik goes on /data for both roms
- BindCache (by Firerat )init.d script to bind /cache to /sd-ext/cache, since we play with MTDs and don't use a big Cache partition, this is useful for Rom Manager for instance.
Gapps are included(all downloadable are installed over the userdata, a few other useful freebies included as well.
Links: Official CM7 Nightly Update-pack | Miui Update-pack
* On the MIUI rom, after you mess around with application location, its wise to clear the data form the Luncher, so it rebuilds the icons in good order.
For the HTC Froyo 2.29.405.5
First off it will fit on a 112 Mb System partition as the rest.
This rom will WIPE your SYSTEM, DATA, sdext and .android_secure from the sdcard.
Features:
A2Sdext with binds, FroyoParts by EzTerry: will secure 3dw, will move apks to sd-ext, will lock HOME in Ram by default (can also move dalvik to sd-ext, data to sd-ext, the compcache setting does nothing as we don't need it)
kernel: couttstec BFS sense kernel
Busybox, Rooted,zipalign,bind cache init script
All the system APKs are ODEXed, even those i added, this saves space and booting up speed.(added torch, spare parts, android terminal, transparent genie widget, 3Dm Gallery, cifsmanager, dspmanager), i removed all the DOWNLOADable google apps and did not add them on Userdata since doing this will brake the Market. You can simply download those you want from the market)
For now Apkmanager is not included, as it's quite bugy on this sense rom.
Links: HTC-Desire-MTD-2.29.405.5
Changes:
17/01/2011
Remove my Custom CM7 since the official nightly's are up!
Added the latest Desire Froyo Sense Rom (2.29.405.5).
CM7: fresh CM build, added new vork BFS kernel in the update-pack.

good stuff.. i have miui 1.1.7.. do i have to flash the latest then flash this in order for it to work? can i flash over my current 1.1.7? thanks!

does it survive nightly update?
what is arrangement?
system?
cache?
data?

You need the new version indeed but Miui 1.1.14 seams much more stable anyway.
In theory my cm update works over any cm 7. I use 112 system 2 MB cache, rest is /data. The Google apps just go on userdata, that's all, only the minimal gapps: sync, talk and vending are on the system.

Superb
Outstanding, tried both, very stable, but the MIUI is a treasure.....bravo!

Right. OK i am so confused right now. Does this install all 3 roms into separate partitions so in effect the phone is dual (or tri) booted meaning i need a custom MTD partition (if so how do you swap between them) or does this install an android base then the mods over the top? What i mean is have you lifted the UI from Miui and Sense and it installs over the CM7 Gingerbread base or what? (like running several launchers)
Also what EXT partition type (2, 3 or 4) and what size (swap or no swap) would you recommend
Ive been flashing and playing with android for a while but i just cant get my head around this. i HATE sounding like a noob

all 3 rom in 112mb???????
confused....

Right i've read and re-read the opening post and as far as i can tell you are saying that you have created a script that you flash after selecting which one of the three roms listed above you wish to flash.
The roms have been edited and streamlined to fit on a custom partition.
and that is all
(excitement over)
That post is so not clear at all

Its obvious for those who use Custom MTDs and want to use all their NAND space.

No it isnt. Not by the way it reads anyway. It sounds like you have combined all 3 roms.

Seemed clear enough to me, working well thanks.

[MOD] DarkTremor (DT) a2sd on Synergy and Kingdom ROMs

I mucked around with an updater script for Synergy last night to replace the built in CM A2SD with DT A2SD. It works. I've tested this on Nightly 6/15 and Nightly 6/16 and it works flawlessly. This should work with ANY ROM that uses the built-in CM A2SD, but I've only tested on Synergy. Let me know and I'll make changes here and there, but my main goal is having this work on Synergy, so I'm not going to be super supportive of other ROMs at the moment.
First of all:
All credit for DT a2sd goes to TKirton. I did NOT write the DT a2sd script. I just modified it to work with Synergy.
Update:
Tested successfully on Virus' Kingdom Revolution B1.3
Update:
This script will now automatically wipe Cache and Dalvik-Cache
What I did:
I updated (and re-signed) the original DT install script. It now looks for the presence of CM A2SD and removes it before installing DT. This is what was causing bootloops when trying to install it after a Synergy installation: The two A2SD programs were conflicting.
I have tested this on a wiped/fresh install as well as an install where I've completely set up the ROM (restored apps, set them up, etc) to my liking, and I had no issues.
Instructions:
NANDROID NANDROID NANDROID...I can't stress this enough. Just because it worked for me doesn't mean it will work for YOU (I can't see any reason why it wouldn't but better safe than sorry).
I have successfully installed this immediately after flashing both Kingom and Synergy ROMs before the first reboot. Your mileage may vary. Some ROM's need to boot once to set everything up which is why I suggest booting it the first time and THEN flashing the zip, but at least on Synergy and Kingdom it doesn't seem to be necessary.
Fresh install:
1. Flash Synergy
2. Let it boot. Set up your google account (or not if you want to do it later, it doesn't matter.)
3. Reboot into recovery and flash synergy-dtapps2sd-2.7.5.3-beta04-signed.zip
4. Reboot.
5. Your phone may reboot once or twice. You're not boot looping I promise.
6. Once it comes up you can check the installation by going into terminal (or adb shell) and typing 'a2sd check'. If the a2sd check screen comes up you're all set.
Installing after your ROM is set up:
1. Boot to recovery
2. Wipe cache and dalvik-cache (no longer necessary)
3. Flash synergy-dtapps2sd-2.7.5.3-beta04-signed.zip
4. Reboot
5. Your phone might/might not reboot a couple of times.
6. Once it comes up you can check the installation by going into terminal (or adb shell) and typing 'a2sd check' as above.
Usage:
Type a2sd help to get a list of commands. Some useful ones (to me) are:
a2sd cachesd (moves dalvik-cache to SD)
a2sd cachepart (moves dalvik-cache to /cache)
a2sd nocache (moves dalvik-cache to internal storage)
a2sd zipalign (performs a zipalign at boot time)
a2sd heapsizexx (changes the system heapsize. a2sd heapsize32 for example will make your heapsize...you guessed it, 32mb)
Those are the ones I'm mainly using. You can get the full list (including memory killer settings and such) by doing a2sd help from terminal or adb shell.
I found this after I already installed everything and set up my nightly 6/16. I still just nandroid'd and flashed it anyway... hope it works... haha...
Looks like it worked, from what you posted in Myn's thread. And that's the whole idea: You should be able install it whenever you want, in case you decide to tweak things after you have your ROM set up the way you want it. This method means not having to wipe/reinstall, which is a big plus as far as I'm concerned.
Gonna give this a try when once I Nand and switch to Synergy.
p.s. I'm in 19720 everyday. lol

Let me know how it goes. I updated it so it wipes cache and dalvik for you.
And I'm in 19701 now...gotta change that info. That's cool though.
Successfully tested on Virus Kingdom B1.3
I'm new at this stuff. Is this better than what is native in the rom? Make it run better? Thanks

The rom comes with dalvik-cache set up on the SD card. Flashing this moves it back to internal storage. It's a trade-off really. You'll lose about 130mb on /data, but you'll gain some speed.
Having said that, if your ROM is running quickly enough for you and it's stable...and if you don't feel the need to tinker with memory settings and such...leave it as it is. I never mess with something that's working for me. ("If it ain't broke, don't fix it.")
I've noticed the Synergy updater has a beta 5. What's the difference? Apologize but I didn't get a chance to read through all the posts on the warm 2.2 thread.

It's the same thing. I forgot to change the name of it when I uploaded it here.
Edit: Changed it here as well.
I will be running this shortly and will report back.

Do you really have to partition? That may be a problem. I formatted my phone installed synergy restarted, wiped delvick then flashed the zip, and it installed. When the phone booted, I ran titanium to restore apps, and ran out of space. I dont think it worked right.
Successfull test!
Works great on 6/23 aka b1.4 kingdom! Love it! Unfortunately it doesn't work at all on new synergy-kingdom hybrid. That's ok, I like kingdom better anyway! Anyone have wake lock issues in 1.4 using this? Pri is 1.77 but still wakelocked after dalvik move
a2sd cachesd (moves dalvik-cache to SD)
a2sd cachepart (moves dalvik-cache to /cache)
a2sd nocache (moves dalvik-cache to internal storage)
a2sd zipalign (performs a zipalign at boot time)
a2sd heapsizexx (changes the system heapsize. a2sd heapsize32 for example will make your heapsize...you guessed it, 32mb)
What are the advantages of each one of these? Should I move dalvik-cache to sd,cache or internal storage? Is there a place to find out why to do zipalign or to change the system heapsize? I'm running the stock 8gb card that is partitioned. Thanks for any help.

If you could get this script working on the new Synergy Kingdom, I would be eternally grateful, as I'm having space issues on that ROM currently (and I really shouldn't be).
a2sd
Thanks for the break down. Never fully understood how to use this. Big improvement in performance. Using partition to its proper use. Played with Heap size and got it as low as I could (15) and am very happy with the changes. Any one who has not done this SHOULD.

[Q] New ROM, how to avoid "left-overs"

Alright, here's what I have:
- Desire with stock Froyo/Sense, rooted (did it with unrevoked 3.21, the newer ones don't seem to work for older desire)
- It is an old desire with only 0.5G memory
Here's what I want to do
- I run out of space all the time, so I want to install a gingerbread-based ROM and use app2sd+ to put as much on the SD as possible.
- I h8 facebook. I want to have a ROM where I can remove it or where it isn't included.
So, Oxygen, CM7 and ReDux seems like good alternatives.
What I worry about:
- When I install a new ROM, old junk from previous ROM will be left and take up space on the internal flash memory (like it does on a windows pc).
How do I avoid this?
I really want to wipe *EVERYTHING*. It is easy to reinstall what I need.
Thanks for explanations!
Other question:
Sense is pretty good. Will miss it. Any suggestions for launcher with a similar feel?
In recovery, you should wipe data, system, cache and dalvik cache.
While do not know the specifics of your device, I am familiar with Cyanogenmod. If you want to make sure that there is no cruft from prior installs, then you need to wipe /system before applying the rom. That will make sure that nothing gets transferred over.

Can I restore apps after flashing CM10?

I'm rooted and running stock 4.1.1 on Kernel 3.0.31. I would like to flash CM10 and have a couple of questions.
1. If I use Titanium Backup to save all my apps and data, can I restore them after flashing CM10 without any issues?
2. I beleive CM10 comes with it's own kernel, please confirm.
3. If CM10 comes with it's own kernel, is there a better kernel out there or is ibetter to stick with the one with CM10?
4. Should I just flash a stock CM10 nightly and gapps or is there a better custome rom with CM10 built in?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks ::laugh:

If you have CWM, do a data/factory reset before the installation, else CM10 will not boot
Yes, it's a complete re-installation. Your SD card will be safe though
You can also re-install from Play Store in My Apps / All
But if you enter you Google account at start-up and set up your wi-fi, it should re-install all the apps on it's own

I use Titanium for the apps I really need the data for. I will stop all updates through the store as soon as I get on a new ROM. Get TB restore apps with essential data. I will often just go through the store for others since I have had a few issues in the past doing everything through TB (lag, not working properly, Force closing).
I often use Matr1x cfs or bfs (CFS is a nice overall scheduler, with nice stability and it is good for a multitasker. BFS is a performance scheduler giving more performance to the currently running app, like a game. So if you aren’t really a multitasker or if you play a lot of games, BFS is a better choice. -- source http://matr1xkernels.com/category/matr1x-kernels/)
Thalamus is very stable, more stockish so there is less extras (BLN, BLD, OC, etc) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1651756
Try CM10 but I suggest you try many and decide for yourself. Ebvery phone is different and every user wants/likes different things as thay become "flashaholics" Just remember there is no "best ROM" Everything has some sort of bug.
stempox has an amazing always up to date complation of ROMs and Kernels http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721856
Finally clean install:
if you get a cluster f*#@ of problems then clean install. It isn't that hard. Use Titanium Backup and good to go.
In Recovery:
1. wipe data/factory reset (this formats /data, /cache and .android_secure on sd)
2. format /system, /boot
this leaves you with only bootloader, recovery and radio...dalvik-cache resides on /data, so it's gone already.
3. flash rom
4. gapps & custom-kernel (if needed). No need to let the phone boot & settle before flashing them (most custom-kernels have a script that automatically wipes /cache & dalvik during kernel-install)
5. reboot
6. Run TB -- restore missing apps with data --1st option under restore
just updating rom:
1. flash rom-zip
2. wipe /cache and dalvik-cache
3. reboot
Do this before reporting any issues on the thread since the problems are often related to this and not the ROM or kernel.

[ROM] Paranoid Android Thrive (unofficial)

As with the Black Bean ROMs, this will now have it's own thread to keep confusion down and information easier to obtain.
I present to you Paranoid Android for the Thrive!
Built from source
Includes Balthesaur 2.7x series kernel
Includes ALL fixes implemented into the Unified builds as of U5
Working Storage
Paid Apps
Sensors
GPS
WiFi
BT
Hardware decode
Hardware acceleration (UI / Project Butter)
WiFi LED
Current known issues:
Like all CM based ROMs it suffers EGL memory errors, which will result in lockscreen "blinking" and needing a hard reboot. Best way to prevent this currently is to not enable any lockscreen, it impacts a lot of devices and is still being looked into.
Uses the Balthesaur JB kernel
Change log:
Resuming from Kuroikaze Threads Build 1 - Build 2
Storage works
Paid apps work
WiFi LED works
Memory management tweaked yet again
Glitches:
Internal SD will appear smaller then normal, this is due to a shift from internal sd to /data, while it may suck to lose some of that internal sd space, it does allow more apps to be installed and requires less use of hacky method to move apps/data to sd to save space for app installation. It seems to be a ratio vs a set amount, IE the bigger the internal sd, the more it moves to /data. A 16GB model will show 10GB internal sd and 5GB available for data/apps. This appears even in stock ICS, I'm not sure of the issue.
Downloads:
Paranoid Android Build 2
Instructions:
For Build 2 a FULL WIPE MUST BE DONE!
Each build after 2 may be dirty flashed if you choose.
Generic flashing instructions - this assumes you have flashed at least one custom ROM in CWM/TWRP at some point.
Download ROM from the link above
Download Gapps provided by Indest at the CM10 Wiki HERE
Reboot into your CWM/TWRP Recovery
Make a full backup/nandroid before proceeding
-For first use of this ROM, a full wipe should be done, regardless of previously installed ROM, this applies for B2, and any version after if you are not on at least B2. A Full wipe means Factory reset, dalvik, system, cache.
-For second flashing (B3 or higher) you may choose to wipe only cache and dalvik and flash just the ROM and Gapps.
After flashing is done (you flashed Gapps after the ROM, right?) reboot system
Allow up to 15 minutes to boot to UI
Once the welcome setup wizard shows up, let it sit for 10 minutes
After the 10 minutes complete the setup of the tablet then reboot
After reboot let it sit 5 minutes
Proceed setting up the device with your apps.
Restore only user apps, and data only if you need to (like game saves, book marks, etc)
Never restore system apps or data! This is red in Titanium Backup
After restoring what you will, reboot one more time
Let sit 5 more minutes
Use device as normal.

Update 12.02.2014
- built again from scratch
- fast, smooth and stable
- multilingual (as all my ROMs)
- improved and optimized
- deodexed, zipaligned, init.d support
First boot will take a little bit more time because of the deodexed system, but be patient.
Update 24.11.2013 CHANGELOG
- added version Max Flavour Slim 4.2 with stock launcher replaced by Touchwiz launcher at your request.
=> This version has to be installed with a clean install.Update 16.11.2013 CHANGELOG
- fixed shutanimation loop and also bootanimation.
- hide big 3G/G network type icons from status bar.
- add email and browser alternative apps.
- cleaned up build.prop.
=> This version can be installed over the previous but clean cache and dalvik cache before install.Update 12.11.2013 CHANGELOG
- new implementation of the stock ROM base with translations from official Mediatek language folders. This version is more accurate, but not all languages are translated complete, so you have to accept that.
- various fixes: brightness and autobrightness, screen colors and depth, GPS (new fix), network, tethering, sounds, callerID matching, and some others.
- fixed computer connection as USB Mass storage in any windows (no ZTE drivers needed).
- optimizations for ram, kernel, cache.
- more speed and smoothness.
- some UI improvements, like autohide empty SIM symbol, wallpapers.
- for GPS all needed files are included.
- for adblocker, the hosts file is properly configurated.
Gapps are included in essential version. You can flash "Gapps to complete zip" to get full suite.
INSTALL INSTRUCTION:
To flash a new ROM properly, you need one of my recoveries (for these I'm sure they works).
1. Reboot to recovery.
2. Do a nandroid backup or backup in cwm.
3. mount USB Mass Storage and delete from sdcard these three directories:
.android_secure
Android
LOSTDIR
4. Copy ROM zip or zips on sdcard
5. Eject mass storage from computer and then unmount in recovery
6. wipe all/factory reset or pre-flash wipe in recovery
7. wipe or erase dalvik cache
8. flash zip from sdcard, choose ROM zip, flash it and reboot, or if you flash my ROM version 3.3, the phone will reboot itself.
That's all, this is the correct way to flash any new ROM in any phone thru recovery.
QUICK GPS FIX:
If you want to quick fix gps, do all steps from this post, without downloading MobileUncle - is already installed in ROM.
For extending data partition, please refer to this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44321463&postcount=3

These are based on stock ROM. LewaOS is in CWM thread.
friend, is just an idea.Your custom Rom is wonderful, works fine, but could you make a clean rom ? there are applications that you install on your custom rom and I not use.
Best regards!

If is not a system app you can uninstall it from settings apps downloaded.
If is a system app, easy way is to use ESFileManager as root explorer and R/W Mounted all, access /system/app, select unwanted apk and corespondent odex and delete. After that reboot and done. But, gapps apps tends to FC if are not all installed (especially in JB), Facebook and tweeter won't work if they are not in system, and any other app I put there has a specific purpose. And you don't know how many people ask me for facebook, tweeter, g-plus, etc. I don't use any of these, and neither gapps, but I have to put in ROM what most of users want. Also, there is an app on playstore, Rom Customizer that let you uninstall system apps in a correct way, even they are odexed.

Try to exclude MobileUncle when you do old backup, or delete it first, because in new version I put a modded version of MobileUncle. I decompiled app to remove chinese gps fix, and replaced with european one.
Now, when you start MobileUncle, in Power gps menu if you initiate GPS set it will load european fix version.
And other thing you have to do, download the ROM again. Seems that yesterday links were corrupted somehow (during upload or in Drive, I don't know), MobileUncle and Ygps lost their permissions and even they are in ROM, don't start. I checked after someone pointed that to me, and I uploaded links again. Now they are ok.

No, it doesn't. It's a simple app with fewer option than stock camera, but I think it slightly increase photos quality. But I provided solution to restore stock camera.

You can change that if you install xposed framework of rovo89 and gravity box module of C3C076, but I modded specialy that with full charging animation, so it's no need to activate battery percentage from settings to see battery state. I changed correspondent xmls to provide full range. In stock version that covers only few stages, 0-15-28-43-57-71-85-100. I added suport for 0-1-2-3........-100 like in cyanogenmod.

Hi, wow very interesting!!! I have never used this before,(gravity box module / xposed framework)
That is the tool I was looking for, many thanks :good::good::good:
The rom is very smooth, and very faster loading his icons, now i gonna try to increase userdata partition.
1 question, on a system with 2.5 userdata when you flash a new normal rom do the userdata back to normal or stay the userdata on 2.5?
Regards Geheimke

If the new ROM is a normal one your partition will remain 2.5 (check zip without unpacking and see if there is EBR1 and EBR2 inside - if you see these check ROM specifications, because these binaries are for extending data partition or for restore to normal). If inside ROM zip there isn't any EBR, you are safe, it's normal ROM, and you can flash it with no impact for data partition.
thanks my friend for new release 3.3
I want to ask about
2. Do a nandroid backup or backup in cwm.
