Root D2G and update - Droid 2 Global General

I just rooted my D2G via Z4, I am actually only using the phone over wifi right now because I am waiting for the gsm unlock but I have 2 questions:
Will I ever get a sw update notification because I am only connected to wifi? or if I check for the updates will it ever come through?
If I can update it will it work even though I am rooted? its not a huge deal if I loose my root, but would an update.zip in the bootloader turn it into a brick?

[Q] can i update an unlocked AT&T Atrix 2 and use it in another country?

i have already bought an at&t atrix 2 and im planning to unlock it. if i unlocked an at&t atrix 2 phone and use it in another country (Philippines to be exact), could it still be possible to update it?
for example,if in the future there will be Ice Cream Sandwich update, how could i update it? via OTA? or Manually? and if the update is available manually, should i still use the US updates or Asia-Pacific updates?
AT&T Atrix 2
-Stock 2.3.5
-not modded
Thanks in advance!
Well yes but you have to unlock it first
You can unlock by one of two way
1) through at&t which will not give you the unlock code easily i think for atrix 2 they will not give it to you soon ( at least after 6 months )
2)through ebay or any website that offer unlocking service
You can search for atrix 2 unlock on ebay and choose any good seller with good feedback
when i unlock mine i will tell you how i did it and if you did it please tell me how you did it
okay.. nut right now im quite confuse in choosing between t-mobile samsung galaxy s2 and att atrix 2

i havent unlocked it yet.. right now im just using the phone for further observation.. have you unlocked yours?
I just gone a used and locked Atrix 2 shipped to me in Thailand and I unlocked it. Before I unlocked it I was able to download the OTA directly from Motorola using the settings menu. I kept delaying the update until I entered the network pin unlock code I bought. I then immediately went back to the udpates menu and told it to perform the update. The phone updated from 2.3.5 to 2.3.6. So yes, in the Philippines your phone will get OTA updates whether it is locked or unlocked. I unlocked it first because Motorola recommends doing the update with an active sim in the phone. Before Motorola would let me download the update to my phone I had to activate a Motorola account (I guess blur lite) but that only took a few seconds and it did not even ask me for any information. I think it just took the info from my google account that I had already logged into on the phone. So far it is a great phone. I moved from an LG G2X so I could use 3G on a different carrier here in Thailand. So far the Atrix 2 is a much better user experience and feels much more responsive than the G2X. It has been a while since your post. Have you unlocked yours and updated it yet?

Try checking for the update with no sim in the phone. That sometimes will make the difference. You can do the update without a sim in it.

Maybe I should do a factory reset and try again tomorrow.

ics upgrade for sprint nexus s 4g

hi, i am planning on purchasing a sprint nexus s 4g. i already have a phone with a contract so i will not be activating it. i was wondering if i could officially upgrade the sprint nexus s 4g to ics without connecting to the sprint network or registering the phone. then would i be able to unlock and root? what i am really asking is will phones that are not connected to a cellular network still get the OTA upgrade or not.
thank you

I can't speak for the NS4G, since I don't have one, but I did just load a stock rom on my Evo Shift 4G that I am selling. The phone is not activated right now, and was only connected to wifi. I went to check for updates, and I was able to update to the latest version available on the Shift. YMMV. I've also done the same thing on an old Evo 4G. Only connected to wifi, and was able to apply updates.
Also, has the ICS update for the Sprint version been released yet?

There is no ICS OTA for the NS4G yet. When there is you should be able to update over wifi. Or you'll be able to just grab the OTA as a flashable zip from here once its released.

can you get ota with the bootloader unlocked? or do you have to relock it before you can get it.

I'm fairly certain you need to relock the phone, and then apply the update. The update won't process if the hboot is unlocked. From there, you will be able to unlock the phone again, to gain root access.

I'm new to the NS4G myself so I may be wrong but I've read many people post that you can still get OTAs with an unlocked bootloader and rooted. Supposedly you just have to be on a stock ROM already and can't have made any changes to any system files.

[Q] 9.30.1.XT926.VERIZON Bootloader

I purchased the phone brand new thinking it would come with the very first firmware so I wouldn't run into this issue.
Well. I'm scratching my head debating whether or not to send it back.
I have successfully obtained ROOT using Towel-Root. But I'd really like to unlock my boot-loader!!!!
I have Googled everything I could think of, watched NUMEROUS videos. But no one else is running 9.30.1.
I have read that if I take the OTA update to 184.x.x then I would be screwed with ROOT and boot-loader.
Am I missing something? Or is it not possible to unlock boot-loader on 9.30.1?
If it's not possible, is it possible to use fastboot to flash Cyanogenmod to my XT926 without custom recovery since I have obtained ROOT?
This really sucks. I just upgraded from an XT907 running 184.46.15 and was upset because I could not gain root.
Can I update to newer android OS and still obtain root on my XT926?
I've done it!
Download the 183.46.10 update.
Use RSDLite 6.1.4 to flash the update.
Towelroot to root.
Motopocalypse to unlock bootloader.
PROFIT.

Droid Ultra XT1080 few questions.

Alright guys so ive been holding on to this droid ultra for awhile just to see if any root comes about. Basically its stuck on Verizon and id like to use it on t-mobile. It has been updated to android version 4.4.4 SU4.21 now i just was reading about the new root method available but is there any way to get this phone to work on tmobile even with the root? As far as i can tell id still need it unlocked or s-off which sunshine can do on 4.21 but i have to already have a root method which requires i change to version 6-7 correct?
ALSO one last question. As soon as i connect to wifi the phone started downloading an update so i turned off the wifi but now it always says System update paused across the top. Any way to get rid of that and block any future updates?
Thanks in advance for any help guys sorry im still a newb.
To use droid ultra on T-Mobile... Put in T-Mobile Sim that is it
Check out my post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3078128.
If you're still on SU4-21 you can use the SU6-7 root method with the files in my thread to root SU4-21 and then run sunshine.
Sent from my XT1080 using XDA Free mobile app
I put a t-mobile sim in it and had a lot of problems. Calls didnt work correctly nor did text messaging.
