Front facing camera - Samsung Mesmerize

does the mesmerize have a front facing camera option, I see what looks like a prox censor, light sensor and a camera. Just wondering if it can be unlocked by a different rom

think theres only two sensors in front at least thats all that I see.

if you look at the one on the right it has two in it i beleive that is the light and prox but the left one looks like the evo / my touch 4g camaera

There is no front facing camera on the Galaxy S Mesmerize.

he is right about there being 3 things in the front though. wonder what the 3rd sensor is for?

It, along with every other variant, has been opened up and no there isn't a camera in there. There isn't a hole through the backing of the glass for it to even look through. It would be on the other side from the proximity sensor. There are posts out there where people have bought the camera and put it in. They even got it to work in most cases, but do you really want to take the chance of jacking your rear camera up or worse, your whole phone.

I don't think anyone has put the ffc in the mes, I don't think the i9000 camera would work anyhow. The physical arrangement on the front and rear camera are on the same side of (right side I believe) of the fascinate. Ours has opposing front and rear camera placement. So even if someone did try I think they would need to modify the camera to make it fit right =(

Ok so I'm still confused then, what is the third sensor for?

It allows super users to see into the future. The future facing camera

Two sensors. Light sensor has one part. Proximity sensor has two parts.

LOL too funny. But i was digging around the system files and I cam across this file. Its located /system/camerdata and its called datapattern_front_420sp. Any idea what it is for. I take that there is not a FFC in the phone but they need to clean their file system if they are going to push it out to the masses and not expect us to tinker with it

This will help you recover from a true birck
true brick = phone will not power up, no leds lighting up. Your phone trully dose nothing
Ive used this method 3 times so far and have been able to recover. I can not GUARANTEE this will work 100% of the time. My guess is it depends on the cause of the brick. (for me it was some alpha builds of the twilight kernel. sorry tanimn)
1) make sure your phone is powered off (if your bricked you dont need to worry about this)
2) remove the battery dore
3) look beneith the silver camera bezel on the left hand side. youll see a tinyu hole that dosnt look like much
4) insert a ball point pen or bent paper clip inside of the hole and apply some pressure (not to much)
5)hold for 10-15 seconds ( longer if you like )
6) boot the phone directly to dl mode
7) odin ec05 or any stock rom you desire. ( make sure its the full tar ).
Great to hear that there may be a way to fix things if something goes wrong! Even if it saves only one other person's phone!

This is exactly why I never posted this before. This is the same issues with the i9000. Less then 50% if the people actually have this "magic button". I'm still trying to dig up that thread for reference.
I my self feel the button when pressed. I have recovered from 3 bricks using this "magic button" nubecoder had stated he has seen this button when his phone was disassembled
The reason this thread no exists now is cause I was asked to start a thread after I posted something in the vision kernel thread.

The back of my epic doesn't even look like that . The SD card is on the right of the camera.
The photo was taken in a mirror, so it is all backwards.

Fisheye'd lens attachment for the G2x.

Don't drool! Welcome the first G2x with a fisheye'd lense. It's a completely removable. I used this same lense on my Samsung Vibrant (and the sample photos you'll see below are from the Vibrant, NOT the G2x just yet). Now my G2x will be doing all the work.
The lens has a magnetic ring on the rear and then you apply a ring as well to the camera on your phone that has some adhesive in the rear of it.
Some of you will ask where I got it from. Well. There are several types on the internet of the same brand, but this one seems to give the best picture and less blurriness around the edges. It rocks.
Only issue I see is the flash will be semi-blocked and might cause odd lighting. Since I came from the Samsung Vibrant it won't be such a big deal to turn the flash off for the time being.

I just went to ebay under In Cell Phone & PDA Accessories. I typed in "Lens" for a general search because i wasn't sure what was available. they are all universal kits that usually stick on with magnets or clips
I really like the typical magnet style but also saw this as a bundle for cheap. Might be worth a shot considering the similar price.

Most of my pictures come out crystal clear if i wait for the focus box to turn green which means it's "focused" as far as the the app is concerned. Although, I've had plenty of times where it thinks its focused, but the preview looks like barf. Maybe there's a different focus option for long distance pictures... I don't know. xD

Doesn't look that sharp to me, but this seems to be the trend with all the photos I've seen in reviews (don't have my atrix 2 yet). The macro shots can look good, especially the ones that showcase rocks for some reason, but further distance its pretty blurry looking compared to other high-end phones. The colors are kind of drab and probably the most annoying to me is that the image comes up much darker than it should, at least in comparison to other phones (there's several blogs that pit the atrix 2 against the gs2, amaze, etc.), so images shot at noon in a clear sky look like they are shot in a cloud covered day. These are probably automatic settings. Dunno about adjusting it and all that. Wish it would autofocus in video too.
Drag the focus box instead of tapping.

The camera is on par with most of the devices out there, sure there are some better but this phone is just fine. If your taking a picture that you need to scrutinize that much then use a camera not your phone. Personally I bought my phone to be used as a phone with the benefit of having a camera. I don't understand why people buy a device an then scrutinize it to hell. Would you buy a car without test driving it?

Not bashing the camera at all here I was just getting opinions from others about the picture quality from a supposed 8mp camera
Sent from my MB865 using xda premium
The A2 has a ton of potential but there's too much time after you press the photo. Press the button and it takes so long the pics blurred from movement. The oem cam app is lame and it doesn't do good at night. I used cam zoom and it does torch mode for night. Also during the day colors were washed out even in indirect sun light. I really like the camera but the SGS II oem camera app destroys it. The pics regardless of the light are sharp, clean, and overall great. I did however really love the HD recording. Did some really good recordings with zero complaints.

Yeah I do realize but in most cases higher MP do result in a better picture. 8mp cameras usually shoot better than a 5mp. But the quality issue probably is because of shutter lag

No, no, no, you got it all wrong. The megapixel rating just tells you how large of a picture the camera can take, the sensor is what determines the quality of said picture. Read this article to get a better understanding.

Yeah you would need to have tripod, or only shoot like stock panorama, only horizontaly. Its difficult not to change a position at least for a little which is enough for picture to be misplaced. Nice picture, btw, the 2nd one.

Hi,
Can you post the link of the camera app you installed on your device? ... I'm using a Nexus S and sometimes not all the pictures taken in Photo Sphere are being shown after the render is complete.. like I took a full 360 picture but i could only see half of it in the photo sphere viewer, the rest is black. Also i cannot apply the Tiny Planet effect.. the gallery FCs when i try to apply it.
Any guesses on how i can fix this?
Thanks

The black is when the pictures taken aren't good enough to stitch together... even on the image i posted in here, i took shots of the sky as well but it turned black because of lighting or bad pictures... not sure exactly but that's my best guess...

Does anyone have the *newest* version (ie after November 14th) of the camera and gallery app? The one that allows sharing to Google maps, and has the arrows for photosphere to show you where the closest blue dot is?
I too noticed that when i shot fully 360° shot, up-down, left-right, photosphere just doesnt include all photos. Like it says, "hey, thats too much photos, i will remove top row pictures and stitch the others". I dont have anything black etc, sphere just doesnt include images in stitching. It might be our phone is weak or something so it cant handle.

Yea that's what I meant. I meant black as in the pictures are not included in the photosphere viewer.
Well I don't think our phone is weak for that. Because it can take panorama pics very easily, and it probably captures more photos than photosphere before stitching them all together.
I think it could simply be a compatibility issue, since the rendering bugs sometimes.
Also, did you guys manage to fix the Tiny Planet effect FC?

Well I don't think our phone is weak for that. Because it can take panorama pics very easily, and it probably captures more photos than photosphere before stitching them all together.
I think it could simply be a compatibility issue, since the rendering bugs sometimes.
Also, did you guys manage to fix the Tiny Planet effect FC?

You can try to edit build.prop and change nexus s name to galaxy nexus, reboot, and see if its working.

You can try to follow the tutorial over at http://photosphereviewer.net/. Should help to get better results.

[Q] Backlight Bleed?

Just received my 16GB from Tesco here in the UK. In my initial checks I found there's quite a bit of backlight bleed across the top of the display and about 1-1.5cm down either side. It's not the worst I've ever seen but it ain't great either. Not sure whether to return or live with it. I might see if I can get a shot of it to post on here.
Do other people have the same problem?
I've had 2. Both identical bleed up top.

Would you say they were within the realms of acceptability?
I just got rid of a stuck green pixel directly below the speaker. I think so yeah. You're not going to get much better.

I didn't notice any bleed until it was pointed out, and then I still had to look for it. Maybe my eyes are dodgy (!), but in my opinion, it's completely acceptable for normal use.
I agree, now if I spent 400 I'd think differently.

You've definitely got a point, even more so as I effectively got it for free with Tesco Clubcard vouchers.
Anyway, I've taken a shot for the record.

My device have some bleed to, but not as much as this.
One problem I found is that it has two black spots on the mount point of the LCD, you can only see when you put the phone slightly tilted.
Does anyone have the same problem?

I can clearly make one out in the bottom left, not so much the other side. That won't bother me TBH.

Yes, is not something that bothers a lot, but I was thinking of getting to replace, but if it is with all, I am stay with that.
Anyone else have the same situation?
Thank you.

Wow - my Moto G's screen definitely does not have as much bleed as that. Nowhere near! And I can only see one of the mount points at extreme angles (way higher than any usable angles). The effects might be exaggerated by the photos I guess? Is it the same with bare eyes? I would take some photos of mine but I don't have another camera...

With my bleed, do you reckon I should return it?

The mount point I start to see at approximately 35 degrees, below is new images illustrating the "problem":
35°
45°
85°

I can't speak for the average quality of the screens on different Moto Gs, so it's hard to say. If you got it from a shop, maybe you could consider taking it in and asking to compare to some other Moto Gs because you're concerned about it?
Maybe I am lucky and got one with an excellent quality screen or something?!

Yep, that looks a bit irritating. I definitely don't see anything like that at around 35-45°... The most I can see is a vaguely darker area, pretty much only visible on full brightness.
I have almost no bleeding at all, just sayin'
I've arranged a return. On searching I did find this thread with a similar experience of bleed (although no pic) http://www.modaco.com/topic/366801-backlight-bleed/
I also noticed a very slight flaw/nick in the glossy plastic surrounding the screen. That plastic is a little soft so I'm wondering about the durability of the phone in the longer term.
Anyway I'm not getting a replacement right now, I'm going to sit back and see if these issues are prevalent and then decide whether to get another.
Any QA issue would raise it. This is how manufacturers learn and improve

I can see some backlight bleed, but it's not all that bad at all, and I had to use a black image to really notice it. It's mostly in the top left corner, for some reason..
