** Gingerbread 2.3 Source Code released by Google! - HTC Aria Android Development

here's the Engadget article...
http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/17/android-2-3-gingerbreads-source-code-now-available/
this feels like an early xmas

Just saw the same article and came over to XDA to make sure they knew YAY!!

I'm so excited for Gingerbread on the Aria
Quick Question, when a DEV gets working on this, how long typically to ROMS take to get to a beta or v1.0 stage?

We are going to be working with cyanogen to bring gingerbread to the aria. There will be no Liberated rom for gingerbread because I doubt htc will make gingerbread for the aria. Since htc version uses their own sense software we have no way to port gingerbread to htc version. Cyanogenmod 7 hasn't been started yet. So there is no eta at this point.

CM6 Kernel Vesion same as HTC Dream?

Anyone know what version kernel the cm6 rom uses on the aria?
If it is the same as the HTC Dream then i think its possible to use psfreedom to mod the ps3.

Psfreedon is possible o. The aria but it would be from the legend
The aria and legend are almost the same
I've tried asking some devs here to join the port and they ignore me

Have you tried it on the CM6 Rom? All the phones listed say that they have it running on the cm6 final release rom. I'll try it out when i get home later tonight, it may work, but only if the kernel is not different on the aria.
It's too early right now to expect to have everyon join in on the port to an aria. I just hope they can prevent detection on PSN soon.

[SOURCE] HTC releases Aria source code

Looks like HTC released the Aria source code. HTC Aria – Froyo MR – 2.6.32 kernel source code
Just the kernel source. Not unexpected as the GPL requires it.
I've been looking through it. I suspect there'll be a FR009 soon with new kernel based on this source. I've already compiled one that is identical to the HK kernel some are using as a substitute for the kernel in FR008, only this one is overclockable.

Gene,
Any idea what the differences are between this latest release and the prior FroYo release by HTC? I'm guessing this is Aria-specific...
I've not been keeping up too much with Aria Froyo lately. I've been working with basically an FR005 with a custom kernel based on ATTN1's FR008 kernel source at github (which itself is based on the CM6 kernel with some hacks for the htc specific stuff to work) and it has been working well.
By prior Froyo releases, I guess you mean for other HTC phones? AFAIK, this is the first release by HTC of kernel source for the Froyo Aria (or more specifically the liberty since AT&T is still stalling on a Froyo release for the aria). Asian and European liberties (gratia) have been Froyo for awhile, but the kernel source for these hadn't been released until now.
I don't know if ATTN1 will get a new FRxxx ROM with this kernel out anytime soon; seems he's been working on the new AT&T Inspire lately.

He just said that the kernel source is for the HTC Froyo 2.2 release and is identical to the HK kernel.

Thanks for the info - makes sense to me.
I've used the FR008 release, and it's very smooth. The only reason I went with CM7 is to check out the latest Android version -
Personally, I think the Aria is a speedy phone using any ROM. I actually like the Sense UI, and the email client (which offers pinch-to-zoom) and the browser (with visual multi-windows) are very useful.

I misunderstood. I thought he said, "I've already compiled one that is identical to the HK kernel." I didn't read into this that the HTC FroYo 2.2 kernal source just released is identical to the Hong Kong kernal.
All I did was take a .config from the HK kernel and build from source. That went fine. Then I just added the higher speeds to the cpu frequency table (to allow over-clocking) and compiled again. Installed on my aria and it works fine at 806 mhz. and I'm loving sense again. Haven't fully tested everything yet, but so far, so good.

Any way to generate a ROM zip file? I'd like to try it out...
Here's what I'm running currently. Use at your own risk (nandroid first!):
http://hoxnet.com/droid/update_hoxnet-liberated_oc_kernel.zip
http://hoxnet.com/droid/update_hoxnet-liberated_oc_kernel_a2sd.zip
edit: better start naming these something useful as I may have to post more.
Update: this first one has the a2sd stuff stripped from init.rc for those like me who don't use it. If you use A2SD, use the second one.

This is a really small zip file - can I install it right over CM7, or must I already have FR008 loaded? I'm guessing the latter...
This is just the kernel and ramdisk (commonly called the boot.img ). I don't know what it will do on a CM7 build. Maybe I'll try it. It's compiled based on the .config from the Gratia kernel (sometimes referred to as the HK kernel). It should be a drop-in replacement for the FR00x series up to FR008 (which had a CM6 based kernel). I don't run FR008, but I suspect it will work fine with that since many are using the HK kernel with FR008.
I know this is off topic but, what chances do we have of someone porting the new sense.... I would like to try myself if its possible....

HTC will not publish or release the Sense UI source code and the only devices that currently have HTC Sense 2.0 are the Desire Z and Desire HD which have a different screen resolution than the Aria, so trying to port the existing modules from those ROMs would be troublesome also.
I didn't know there was a sense 2.0. Maybe we'll see that on the Aria AT&T update supposedly out soon.
I seen it ported to the desire from the desire hd, and it looks really nice.... kinda of see thru. So your saying it has to be ported from a phone with the same screen resolution?

None of the HTC models from last year that have gotten a Froyo update have had the new Sense 2.0 (i.e. Desire, Wildfire, Aria). They have only shipped it on the new machines such as the Desire HD, Desire Z and HTC Inspire.

Yes I believe that is true. Both the Desire and the Desire HD are hdpi resolution models where as the Aria is mdpi resolution.
The Wildfire S has the same screen resolution and Hardware as the Aria. This phone will be released with HTC Sense 3.0. Any chance we could port from the Wildfire S Rom, which BTW will also have Gingerbread 2.3.3 out of the box.

Let's not derail this thread based on the version of Android OS.. Android OS version is not the issue.. it is the HTC Sense version that is incompatible.
I have verified Netflix works with many GB based ROM for the Evo (Sense 1.0, MIUI, CM7, Decks, Stock AOSP) EXCEPT Sense 2.1 and above I haven't found one of these that it works on.. (Shift Ports, the Kingdom ROMs etc)
@skydeaner have you made any progress on determining if it is possible to get it to run on Sense 2.1 and above? I am running Evolved Shifted RC1.1 and really enjoying it, but can't make it my daily driver until Netflix is working on it.

+1 on that bro
Is it possible this will be cleared up for us when the OTA Gingerbread update for the Evo goes through on June 6th? (See news on Engadget and confirmed by Sprint)
I know that the Netflix apps compatibility was not universal, but a major update like that should move Netflix to quickly update the app to be compatible, especially considering that the Evo was one of the launch units for the app.
Of course, it could also be an inborn issue with the leaked 2.1 that all the Sense Gingerbread Roms are based on that would actually need a fix, at which point the OTA won't help anyone... But that's for smarter people then I to fix.
It works on virusrom gingersense with sense 2.1

It would appear that virusrom gingersense is based, at least in part, on sense 3.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036706) which may be the reason it works. The Netflix issue seems to be specifically with sense 2.1 which was based on a leaked version of the Evo's official gingerbread build (which should be available as early as today in its OTA form).
I wonder if someone else with more knowledge would be able to isolate which part of sense 3.0 is compatible with Netflix that isn't compatible with 2.1 and be able to port that component over to all the 2.1 builds to enable Netflix. Or if the simple availability of the official 2.1 from the OTA will enable the Netflix issue to resolve itself...

Thanks s0calstate0fmind for clearing that up. Could you confirm what version of Sense the OTA is going out with?
It would seem from this page of peoples experiences with the OTA that the Sense version is 1.0 mixed with certain elements from 2.1. Unlucky for us, it seems that the elements from 2.1 that they chose to include were the same ones that don't work with netflix, as people are reporting that the app has stopped working for them.

The race is on now to see who fixes the issue first, the awesome devs here at xda or the HTC/Sprint/Netflix folks....

Haven't tried on the official OTA (obviously because at the time of my post only the "Leaked" version was available) I did try it on the stock rooted leak version of the GB release (from TMartin I believe) and it did work for me.
It is official however that the GB OTA Update broke NetFlix on the EVO. NetFlix is aware of the issue and has removed it from the Market and expect a fix in the "near future" (their words).

I'm sure you've heard already, but the OTA is Sense 1.0, but hopefully the devs can work with the official Kernel to work some magic on the Sense 2.1 GB ports..
See Forum Page Below:

My wife is watching a movie on netflix now on the TV so I can't test the upgraded netflix app's streaming (we can only stream on one device at a time...). Can anyone confirm if this did indeed fix the issue either with the OTA (sense 1.0 with some 2.1 elements) or the leaked Gingerbread based sense roms (running sense 2.1 or 3.0)?
The Netflix app now lists Evo with 2.2 and 2.3 as compatible devices in the Android Market.
I'm on version 2.1 and have netflix

[Q] CM7 for HTC Desire S

Hey guys, by now most of you should know that the Incredible S has an official version of CM7. Our ROMs are great, but they're all very similar (Sense 3.0 or 2.1+3.0). Has anyone tried porting CyanogenMod 7 from the Incredible S ?? It's a great ROM, but as of now, I've seen no one who's tried a port.
i think people are more concerned about getting S-OFF on the phone first, although i would love to see CM7 on this phone
thanks to superkid ~ aha~
I am also waiting for a official release...
superkid version is gr8. It has no bugs except Bluetooth and some battery drain.

Stock Gingerbread Rom?

Hey Gentlemen,
I've been looking all over to see if anyone has developed a completely stock Gingerbread Rom. I'm tired of sense and just want some fast & simple vanilla android. Does anyone know of a Rom for it or if its in development ?
Thanks

havnt seen any yet but you might as well wait for CM7 like everyone else
CM7 - it's like stock Android, but better
Swyped from my HTC Sensation
Very cool, will do. Thanks.
Any word on a release date or if they've even started working on it?
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/ is going to be the best place to wait and watch.
Personally hoping for just a straight up AOSP build. To customize off of. Just have to wait and see.

nowhere. the sense 3.0 lockscreen relies upon sense. and right now, there aren't any "working" (read: daily driver-able) AOSP based builds working/released.
