somebody help me how to root droid 2 global. Thanks so much.

search for z4root. One click app that runs on your phone. Can't get much easier than that

not true. i tried many many many of the d2 root methods and none of them worked on my d2g. only thing that worked for me was z4root.

They all employ the same exploit afaik so they will all work. Please correct me if z4root does something else entirely.

its not that, its the way the d2g's usb connection stays inactive when adb resets in the middle of the process. regular d2's dont do that. im not sure what causes it, but its what always messed up regular d2 root methods on the d2g.

It should as many have rooted and flashed ROM and one may have even soft bricked because you guys don't have the sbf yet.

I was successful using a terminal emulator on the phone running the same steps! Seems with the D2G the ADB connection never resets and allows a computer to connect again.

I just got a droid 2 global as well, i used z4root also worked like a charm.
Confirmed: the process for rooting the d2 doesnt work for d2g.

It DOES work, you just have to do it on the phone instead of adb through computer.

Droid 2 Global
I just got one of these phone i bought it from Motorola directly and thought it would come unlock but in vain its not the case
Anyone know how to get it unlock? I've called verizon but they ask me for a phone number which is under their line but then i'm not in USA.
So anyone know any possible solution for me to get it unlock?

Update ?
Does the newest OTA update break the root?

Yes, it did for me.
I used z4root to root.
After the update I tried su in the terminal emulator and got 'permission denied'. Wireless tether also did not work; no superuser request.
Running z4root again after the update fixed it and restored root access.

Z4Root Temporary Root
Has anyone successfully used the Temporary Root option from Z4Root on the D2G?
I already got the OTA update from Verizon for the latest update. I would just like to do a temporary root to remove all that crap Verizon installed on the phone.

My phone is not letting me download z4root.zip
How else can I get this phone rooted? I have the D2G.

The stock browser (the one you're using right?) doesn't like to download things unless there is a program that uses that filetype/file extension (i.e. .zip) so if you download a file manager explorer that can manipulate .zip's like Astro or something then you should be able to download it. Or you could always download it from your PC (or mac if that's your fancy) and put it on your sdcard from there.

i use z4Root v1.3 and it`s work for me, and have the option for un-root, it`s easy ..

yup Z4root is what i used on my d2g and it was simple as 123
and it even has an -un-root option which is handy

So... let me show my ignorance. I have downloaded Z4Root 1.30 to my Droid 1. I have seen several tutorilas that mention a backup. several suggest Droid X Recovery or Droid 2 Recovery by Clockwordmod. When I go to teh market to check out Droid 2 Recovery it says I need to be rooted first. What happens if the root goes bad and I don't have a pre-root backup?

2.2.20 update unrooted me, help

So I just bought my Droid 2 the other day and could not resist the temptation to root it. Well, that process was easy enough through tutorials on here, but now i've stumbled upon a problem. When I awoke this morning, there was a notification to update to 2.2.20 (i had rooted it with 2.2.19).
No serious issues here... the update went fine and no bricking or anything. I still have all my apps and my current phone version is 2.2.20. My problem is that I lost the root-enabled features! superuser permissions is still an app, but the apps that access root are unable to (barnacle, setCPU, etc).
I'm not sure if this is as simple as going through the process again, or since it's been rooted do i need to do something different this time? I'm somewhat familiar with UNIX so i shouldn't need a fully dumby-proof explanation, but I'm not familiar enough where a barebone explanation will do it either. If anyone can help it'd be great. No rush though, phone still works i just really miss my wifi tether!
I think you can reroot using the same method

Install an update or do the .sbf recovery.
Alternatively, go in /system/bin and remove su and busybox and restore any removed system apps, as long as you haven't done any changes

Evo Shift Root Exploit and Development Thread

Please place all of your discussions about obtaining root on the Evo Shift here.
Temp root:Temporary root can be acheived a number of ways on the shift the easiest being either z4root app or the visionary plus root app.
Z4root:
download here and install as you would any other apk
open the app and hit temporary root
let it run till you are notified of its success
you now have temporary root!!
*Note you have to reapply z4 each time you reboot your phone
Visionary:
full instructions and the link to visionary can be found here. http://android.modaco.com/content/h...m/320722/19-nov-r14-visionary-one-click-root/
IMPORTANT NOTE!
PLEASE DO NOT ACCEPT ANY OTA UPDATES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
they patched the root exploit on the desire z when they updated you can most definitely expect them to do the same for the shift so please for that sake of everybody being able to get proper root do not accept any updates unless further notified!!!
unless you just dont care about root that is.....
so far, we got a temporary root.
No point in trying unrevoked as it scans for the device name and shows
"sorry, the device 'speedy' is not suppored" (paraphrasing)
wish i knew alittle more about this.
You can get to hboot by Holding down the vol down while powering on
Also in a previous thread bubby323 requested a dump of /system and dnalevelc obliged:
* http://www.digglesworth.net/evoshift/system.7z
In another forum (androidcentral) someone noted that an app called VISIONary works to auto temp-root the Shift upon boot.
* http://android.modaco.com/content/h...m/320722/19-nov-r14-visionary-one-click-root/
Edit: Also there's code to temp root the G2 using a different exploit below. I haven't attempted to run it on my Shift. Possibly not relevant since it has a newer version but could be if an update is pushed to the Shift:
* https://github.com/tmzt/g2root-kmod/tree/scotty2/scotty2/psneuter
got the shift today. MAN this thing is fast! i'd love to see unrevoked release a small update that supports the shift. otherwise i can do it the long way but i can't wait to see the scores once i get a custom ROM on it.
Visonary does work, I turned on temproot on boot and then i pressed temproot now and it rebooted the phone. The phone was either taking its time or got stuck on the 4G for 2-3 mins so I pulled the battery and started the phone up again. I installed connectbot and typed su and got a #. Tried the reboot command and it wouldn't let me so I went into root explorer and it prompted the su app, gave it permission and started hacking away at bloatware..... no luck, it still came back from the grave :\
I successfully Temp rooted with z4root (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953) and I couldnt get the download off the market so I just went to 4shared.com and searched z4root and picked up 1.3.0 which is the latest version....
It worked great and I used Titanium back up and a screen shot app that both needed root.
does anyone think the rageagainstthecage exploit will work on this? i assume people are working on it? cause if it does, that means unrevoked3 could possibly release a new version with shift support, right? since unrevoked is just an automated rageagainstthecage, right?
edit: i mean, for permanent root, S-OFF.

yes, the rage exploit is what works and is what z4root uses. However I couldn't get the actual binary to work from the CLI using adb.
Just curious--with this temp root, will the wireless tether app work? At least until the phone is restarted. I use that app quite a bit with my Hero, to get on the sites blocked at work on my ipad

Even though we only have temp root partitions on the shift can be flashed using dd I won't go into exactly how to do it till I get home because the commands have to be EXACT!!!! Or u risk bricking your phone... I've had to ruu a couple times now
O btw the ruu that was previously leaked appears to be exactly what was released on the shift.

I had the issue the other day, on stock 2.3.6, I also saw that alterdlikeness had a similar issue as well. It was updating past the 3.03 on both su and Superuser.
I had issues on my A2 with 3.1 only, and it would just FC and not work. I had to remove and basically re-root, and leave it at 3.0.1.

You missed the point I was trying to make to those wanting to update thier binaries for su and superuser.... not new root exploits.
I just want everyone to know there are issues with 3.1... however today an update to 3.1.2 today has been proven to work for those having the issues that both alteredlikness and I have seen with FCs.

On Stock 2.3.6 rooted. The new updates to the Superuser app allow you to update the binary and use the settings now.
Updating thread for superuser 3.1.2 now..
This method works as stated today I was trying to update my su binary but update was not getting successful so I unrooted and rooted back using this method now everything is updated and running smoothly.

I think they are the same, except this one has a more updated version of superuser - I think (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
I personally have always used the one in Jimmy's thread and just update the superuser app and binary (and, thanks for reminding me about that post - I never thanked him until today - and due credit to p3droid & JRW 28 of course).
As for CWM recovery, just install the A2 Bootstrap app after being rooted. Use the bootstrap app - top button, OK, bottom button to boot into recovery.
Good luck to you and your girl!

Boom, was one setup ahead of you and just finished all that. Currently backing up in CWM and waiting for a painfully slow download of Lithium and we should be jammin. Can't believe how easy it all was actually.
So I assume since this CWM is loaded from an app there's no way to boot into recovery should a bootloop or rom failure happen? Is that something people worry about?
Thanks for your response bud.

The cwm on boot feature may already be included in Lithium (edit: yes, it it included - just checked)... if not, you can set that up rather painlessly. And, yes, some of us do worry about that very much so..

Are you on the ICS leak already? Are you on AT&T? If you are on the ICS leak and on AT&T there is a way to root it in the leak thread in the General section. I put the files back up today.
If not, I really am not sure, one of the guys on the other leaks might be able to help there.

[Q] Pete's One Click Root not working on d2g 2.3.4

Ok so I just got a droid 2 global (I know it's pretty old) and I wanted to root it because the bloatware was wasting my battery. My phone is running gingerbread 2.3.4, system version .629 so I used Pete's one click root. For some reason it wouldn't work. When it reaches exploit step 3 it would immediately say "ERROR: adb could not be granted root access via local.prop method" .. So I tried again and had the same problem. I looked not the forums and couldn't find anything so does anyone know what to do?? Yes I enabled debugging and the USB was set to charge only. I don't know what to doooooo. I'm a noob btw so is it possible that there's another version of Pete's one click root? It says that it's version 1.05.. HELP MEE
