[Q] Samsung Mesmerize Roms - Samsung Mesmerize

Hello all,
I am new to the forums so I apologize if I posted in the wrong place! I am looking for a Froyo rom for the Samsung Mesmerize, I have spent quite a bit of time looking and have been quite unsuccessful so far. All I am looking for is a basic Froyo Rom, something that would be close to what Samsung themselves would actually release. I am new to Android so I do not know where to look exactly. I have hacked the PSP, jailbroken iPods, and installed custom roms for Windows Mobile phones so I am no total noob in the hacking aspect. If somebody could just point me in the way of some safe froyo roms that would be much appriciated, thanks in advance!

you can not yet

I think jt has a clean mesmerize rom for you...

There are no roms Froyo based at the moment but the current rom that is avalible is Deodexed and clean (striped of extra bloat) It is an Eclair DI14 based Rom. There is also voodoo and nonvoodoo kernels avalible and I just posted some MODS I created Accurate battery and notification Icon changes, as well as it gives you Custom bootanimations if you choose the voodoo kernel,as this kernel supports custom bootanimations...All kernels can use this mod you just wont have bootanimation change if you choose nonvoodoo...Hope this helps

Since the Mesmerize is just starting to bloom this page will be helpful in the future. I figured we can list the ROMS that work on our phones in one spot. My plan is to keep it updated with all the Roms and kernels for the Mesmerize. Make sure you check the thread for more details. So shall we get started. (if i miss any let me know and Ill get it added)
ROMS:
DI14 Pick-n-Pack 0.2 ROM
Downloads: Here Mirror Here
This is a stock, deodexed ROM with minor changes. No dependencies have been removed, therefore all stock apps should work as expected. Although this is very similar to the stock setup, it is still not stock and by flashing any or all parts of this ROM you understand the dangers of such flashing. Do a backup before you flash anything.

Super Clean ROM 0.3 for MESMERIZE!

Hi guys. I got my hands on some DI14 files from the Mesmerize and decided to cook up a ROM. This ROM is very lightweight (removed as much touchwiz stuff as I could), and is very similar the version I have released for the Fascinate.

DI14 Blues ROM
Download: Here
This is in beta as I have not yet gotten everything in it that I want, but it's a good start and usable. As usual take a nandroid backup before you flash anything. I am not responsible for anything you do to your phone while flashing any of this content. That being said, I have had no problems with any of it. It uses all of the dependencies so all of the stock apps should work and anything that has been removed can be added from the Pick-n-Pack ROM.

I present to you an 'official' build including the kernel, radio, and full-blown froyo tastiness, for the USCC Samsung Mesmerize. Pre-rooted for your convenience, just download and flash with the latest version of ODIN. These are stock images plus root so your phone will function as if you just turned it on for the first time, albeit with a finger that magically instills root powers into any device you touch.

KERNELS
VooDoo 5

Kernels include various tweaks for performance and speed, and have also been slightly undervolted to be nice to your battery. They are NOT overclocked, as IMO, there is no benefit to overclocking other than inflated benchmarks and worse battery life.

Be careful!! This kernel is named the same as jt's Voodoo Sound 2.1 Kernel that he released yesterday. You may want to rename one of the two if you plan on using both. The ROM will bootloop or freeze at the lockscreen if you mistakenly use a 2.1 kernel (=

CAUTION - WARNING
Do not use the partition sd card option in rom manager. It will mess up the phone's master boot record and you will have to rewrite the original one in order for voodoo kernels or anything that modifies the boot record to work properly.

I know it may be tempting to flash Fascinate or Showcase (or Vibrant, or i9000, etc) ROMs and Kernels especially since the Fascinate is starting to get some Froyo alpha builds. It is also probably a bit confusing as to why (since we PRETTY MUCH have the same hardware) it wouldn't work. Common Misconceptions About the D2.

So after seeing many things that is said with the D2 I thought I should write a post like this. This is just to clear up confusion so users can have the knowledge to use in the future.
Every ROM for the D2 is AOSP
I have seen this said many times and it bugs me that people think that all ROMs are AOSP. As of now, there are actually only a few AOSP ROMs for the D2, cvpcs' Tanzanite/Obsidian, Cobalt, and blackdroid's Ultimate Droid. Other ROMs like rubiX, Liberty, ApeX, and Fission are basically Motorola ROMs with the blur applications replaced with AOSP applications. Now this does not actually make it AOSP. It has features from AOSP, but there is much more to it than the applications. These blur-based ROMs actually have other AOSP-like features, such as lock screen music controls and a few others. Now that also doesn't make it AOSP, those are just a few features that were originally modifications to AOSP to add more functionality to a ROM. That doesn't mean these ROMs are bad in any way. They are actually very good. The only downfall of them is the fact that they are limited to what can be done.
There can't be AOSP ROMs without a custom kernel.
Another statement I have been told or have seen several times. It is considered AOSP if it comes from Google's source. A kernel won't affect the fact that it was built from source. Although it would be ideal for a custom kernel with AOSP, it isn't needed.
A custom kernel is needed.
This is another incorrect statement. It would be nice to replace the kernel, but it isn't needed. The kernel that is provided to us from Motorola includes basically everything the end user would need. Also there is overclocking(although it isn't the easiest implementation) by adding a temporary module to the kernel that is erased after the phone is powered off.
Gingerbread won't come to the D2 until Motorola releases a new kernel with their Gingerbread update.
Incorrect. What the original concern was that Gingerbread would not boot with a .32 kernel(the kernel the D2 has.) and that it needs a .35 kernel. This was later proven wrong with D1. The D1 has been running Gingerbread for a bit now with a .32 kernel. Now I know people will say it is is a different kernel or something along those lines, but that doesn't matter. Gingerbread will boot on it without needing to replace the current kernel.
Fantastic post. Very clear, informative and I learnt more in the 2 minutes reading your post than the hours I've spent reading other threads.
Top stuff.
"Most truths were once deemed blasphemy"
Whats taking so long for Gingerbread then?!
Nice write up, very informative.
Matt, can you check out the MIUI thread in D2 development? Another developer and I are working on the port but we need someone with really good D2 experience to look over the rom and tell us why it gets stuck on the moto logo each time, we would really appreciate it if you could check it out for us.
Thanks,
ljbaumer
P.S. nice post it's really clear and will help out noobs.

Someone should sticky this thread cause it is really useful information

This is now irrelevant, take a quick jaunt over to MDW where P3Droid has released full stock moto gingerbread builds for both D2 and DX in update.zip formats (new blur builds). Only catch with them at this time is that no one has figured out how to root them yet, but you can restore back with a previous SBF.
What differences could be expected if GB were to be paired with a .35 kernel rather than the .32 kernel of the current Moto GB leak?

I'm pretty sure they've rooted the GB builds... I had superuser access and could boot to recovery and everything. You do have to SBF back to them though, I learned that the hard way.
I am running the rooted Gb and loving it. I would love to see a cm7 version for the Droid 2

[Q] What is purpose of Showcase AOSP, Voodoo Kernel and GAPPS?

(Disclaimer: I am new to the forum so I can't post this in the below mentioned threads because I haven't posted enough.)
Hey Ya'll I'm relatively new to the Samsung Showcase and rooted the 2.1 and installed the VOODOO for the Sound improvements! and I loved it.
Today because I can't leave well enough alone I updated to Froyo with the PnP rom.
I saw the thread '[ROM] Showcase AOSP Froyo V0.9, Voodoo AOSP kernel, and GAPPS 3/15/2011' but when I saw all the things that didn't work on it (camera, video camera, Bluetooth) I thought I'd investigate more before I did anymore!
I have a problem with doing things I don't fully understand as long as I understand the instructions.
Can some one tell me what the AOSP Froyo V0.9 Rom is (and how its better, worse different from the EB11 PnP 0.3)
About the Voodoo kernal in the above thread? and how its different than the kernal in this thread, [KERNEL] voodoo for eb11 fix release
What is the GAPPS?
I would really like the Sound improvements and I saw that its not available yet...and the lagfix isn't enough of a change for me at this time to remove the function of the camera, video camera, and bluetooth headset.
So can someone clear this up for me. I've read the entire thread of each of the above mentioned threads and they are more about bugs and for people that already know about of their function?
THanks in advance!
Justin

So AOSP stands for Android Open Source P but, any idea why some would use this instead of the Pick N Pack Rom I'm using...and if I can use the Voodoo Kernel with it or if I have to use the AOSP ROM. I guess I'm kind of looking for the features and benefits of different ROMS.
In addition I'm also using this post to get my 10 post up so I can just post this question in the Development thread.

Different ROM's have different benefits, it's all up to the user. Like I said, google it, do some research and find out for yourself what ROM's are all about. MIUI, CyanogenMod and AOSP are all different types of custom ROM's.

Thank you I will google it...more thoroughly.....I though AOSP was more of a definition than a name of the ROM.. Thanks for the input.

Help Picking A Rom

I rooted my device with a kernel and I have EE4. What rom will be good? I had the thunderbolt and used CM7. I know the droid charge dont have that yet. Im a bit confused about all the different numbers that i see around the forums. With the thunderbolt all you needed to know is which radio to have installed with the rom. Some please point me to the good roms that will work.
Im stock right now with root. EE4
I'd recommend Eclipse 1.3.1 for SURE. Having tried both GC and Humble beforehand I can seriously say Eclipse is great. I just like how much better Eclipse looks over the other ones. Sure themes can change that but just try Eclipse out and see how it goes. If you don't like Eclipse then Humble is certainly the one you will like.
If you're worried about losing apps or other such things just download Titanium Backup(just pay for the full version, it's much better if you are going to backup/restore alot).
also, this should be in the general section

can you shoot me a link? Also same way to install like on my thunderbolt right? Either use rom manager and select the rom on my sd card or boot into recovery?
gummy, eclipse, and humble are all great. I have found trade offs with each but the developers are actively involved in the forum and are constantly working on their roms to you just have to find which one you like best...but you will switch from time to time anyway if you are like the rest of us
I have stayed away from the GB roms since there seem to be a few bugs and I was never really impressed with GB on my DX. I still run froyo on that phone.
Ya, stick with Froyo for now.
I've used both Eclipse & Humble and both have benefits. I prefer Eclipse 1.3.1 for now...very fast, decent battery & good looking GUI.
if i install eclipse 1.3.1 will i lose root since i used a kernel to get root?

Nope.
Purchase Titanium Backup if you have not. Back up all your apps/system aps. Download an app to back up your SMS if you want and boot into recovery.
Wipe data, cache, go to advanced and wipe delvik. Back to main screen and install rom from sd card and reinstall your info and data.

No you won't lose root. You need to read the faq in the general section. Charge is very different than TB. Don't use rom manager for any thing. It doesn't work w/ the charge.

I tend to disagree with the froyo. IMO from a rom developer standpoint, even a buggy GB rom is better than froyo, it lacks many things. Im using the Eclipse GB rom now, and really very little in buggy. Now GB roms are lacking a solid kernel that you can undervolt and overlock, the Eclipse GB does lag at times (no i have not yet tried to do the EXT4 hack then used a GB rom.
One thing im not fond of with this phone coming from a EVO 4G and MT4G is that its super laggy, i know it works better with ext4... also the recovery way... when i reboot into recovery... i have to reboot to it.. then pull the battery then it will boot into recovery.
Idk, but I can't get away from Eclipse 1.2. It runs the fastest out of any rom.

Unless I am missing something somewhere I don't believe there is lagfix for GB? If so it would tend to be more "laggy". I notice no lag using froyo and lagfix enabled. I do not overclock.

Just flash the rom. You only need to flash a kernel if you are planning on changing it. If you already have the kernel you are planning on running with the rom just wipe data and install the rom.
I am running the froyo eclipse with the honeycomb theme and it is awesome. Battery life is great and I would highly recommend it. I am running it with imnuts non overclocked voodoo kernel.

How's it work?
Select any JVQ based ROM for the i9000. If you don't know what this is, then this is not for you.
Push your selected ROM to your /sdcard
Download Hellraiser below
Push Hellraiser to your /sdcard
Reboot into Recovery (RED RECOVERY PREFERRED)
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Flash your chosen JVQ ROM
Flash Hellraiser immediately after
Reboot and enjoy your JVQ ROM goodness

FAQ:
Do I need to disable Voodoo Lagfix?
Nope.
Can I flash JVO/JVR/JVP ROMs as well?
You should be able to, but I only tested with JVQ. So you are on your own there.

Can I flash Samsung based Captivate ROMs as well?
Has been successfully done by at least one person. Make sure you use a Samsung based Gingerbread ROM.
Which ROM do you recommend?
Which one you choose really is a matter of preference. However, I tested with Sensation from Crysis21: http://is.gd/D5LJm6
How does this work behind the scenes? How is this even possible?
What Hellraiser does is flash in appropriate hardware libraries and userspace applications, and the Infuse specific modem (UCKE3) and kernel. This allows the existing i9000 ROM to work on the Infuse all while still thinking it's an i9000, but addressing the Infuse hardware.

What is Hellraiser? Any links?
I figure it allows you to put i9000 roms on it, but only certain kinds?
Does this allow me to put a fully functional GB rom on my Infuse? If so, how's this different than your work with porting over CM7?
Nice to see another dev is using a Q&A thread. stickied.
Hey man, Great Work!
I was wondering, does HellRaiser works with 100% of the Infuse's hardware?
I'm asking because I am aware you've been fixing the Bluetooth/GPS modules to bring that functionality to CM7.
So, is hellraiser a 100% hardware thing or does it have the same issues with bluetooth and voodoo sound driver than the unofficial CM7?
Thanks in advance and apologies if this question has been addressed somewhere else.

Hellraiser
Hi, Have you taken the link down, I clicked it a few times but it says the address cannot be found on media fire.
Thanks

There's more detail in development. Read there, ask here.
Define "fully functional"? With the exception of HDMI and data speed issues in some areas, ROMs derived from the Rogers Gingerbread release were fully functional.
Since the low-level video/audio/etc stuff from Hellraiser is derived from that same ROM, the same limitations apply.
But it lets you take any i9000 ROM based on the Samsung Gingerbread release (tested with an XXJVQ-based ROM) and use it on the Infuse.
It will NOT work for getting anything CM7-based from the i9000 to work. CM7 has a very different low-level architecture than Samsung ROMs (which is, for example, why Bluetooth still isn't working in CM7 on the Infuse.)
I'm sure LB will still be working CM7, but every once in a while you need to take a break and do something else. LB, gtg, and Mikey have been working this off and on for a few weeks. CM7 was getting more focus, but there's only so much bashing your head against the CG2900 driver that a man can take before you go do something else for a bit. Hellraiser is the result of LB taking a break from Bluetooth.
It works AMAZING. It opens up a world of i9000 and Captivate roms for us to flash.
So far Blockbuster, Mosaic, and Darky's worked perfect.
Hellraiser
would somebody mind posting the full mediafire link for hellraiser please ... for some reason the is.gd link isn't working for me. Ty.

Yes. It's quite a bit easier to go from Samsung ROM to Samsung ROM than it is switching over to something that's completely open source like CM7. Samsung uses many closed source drivers, which we can drop into other Samsung ROMs based around the original GalaxyS platform, like the i9000 and the Captivate.
Thanks

Makes sense... Thank you for your quick reply and development man! You and your team gives excellent value add to our phones!
Would love to hear feedback from people on why they like the ROM they have chosen.
Right now Infused 2.0.2 has been my ROM of choice because it's fast and I can't find a single thing wrong with it but if there's a compelling reason to check out some of the i9000 ROMs I might do so!
Also kudos to LB this is a really clever idea

I am running the one LB was running, Sensation. I gotta say its soo much smoother than 2.0.x.... I was on 2.0.1 through 4... and they just didnt seem to be right.. gtg knows his stuff but until GB is official on our phones this is the next best thing right now. battery life is awesome also, been unplugged since 3am its 1pm now, with calls, bt, wifi im at 75%
Infused is one of the best roms that I've ever used, fast, great battery life. But, I had a Captivate before that. And just seeing those Cappy roms on our big screen is neat. Nothing life-changing, just neat. If you're a tinkerer and enjoy playing around with roms, this is a must.

If I do a backup of my current setup (Infused 2.0.2 and bedwa GB kernel) from ROM Manager will that give me a complete snapshot of the phone that I can return to if I don't like SensatioN + Hellraiser?

I would say that yes, if you reboot into recovery manually, and took a backup directly in Red CWM it would. I wouldn't trust Rom Manager to do it for you.
I get this error
THE PROCESS ANDROID.PROCESS.ACORE HAS STOPPED UNEXPECTEDLY. PLEASE TRY AGAIN.
why is this poping up?
thanks ppl and if this has been aswered disregard my post and I will keep searching for the answer

Can't really help without more information, but, I would say, you forgot to Wipe Data.

They have to be enabled. Open Theme Settings app, Phone Options dialog at the bottom.
