[Q] NEXUS S only available at Best Buy? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, I was just wondering if Nexus s is ONLY available at Best buy. My contract ends on December 23rd and wanted to change my carrier to Tmobile and get a new family plan. Me and my family planned to get phones at Costco since it was a lot cheaper than any other places. Then i saw this article saying that its available only at best buy! is it true??? :/

Initial release will be at Best Buy exclusively in the US. I have not seen any dates on when it will be available through other retailers.

I think it will be after the exclusivity at Best Buy is over....

Best Buy Mobile has exclusive. No other retailers or direct from T-Mobile until further notice. Best Buy Mobile pricing is better than costco 99% of the time...rebate free as well...plus price matching if thats not the case.

No one knows how long the exclusvity agreement may be, very possible that best buy may own the lifetime rights to the device.
That being said, there is only two prices. $199.99 on contract and $529.99 unlocked.

Any thoughts are most welcome
If you can wait, then sign up here: https://services.google.com/fb/forms/nexuss/
If you're in a hurry, then there are a few options:
1. Best Buy + delivery service like http://www.aramex.com/shopandship/default.aspx
2. eBay. Prices are about $730 now, I'd wait a bit.
3. Wait for somebody local to import a load of phones and sell on at higher price.
Carphone warehouse, vodafone contract only tho

Please inform us if you will recieve a phone ..
A lot of friends bought iPhone 4 in Apple store in other country and they recieved it via freight forwarders. It would be strange if Nexus S can be bought in this way, because they will only lower their sales.
According to this review, it will be available in EU in February and it will have lower price than Galaxy S i9000:
http://www.mobile-review.com/review/google-nexus-s-en.shtml
Also at that time Samsung will unveil i9100..

Well, if BB don't want my money, then I will happily take it elsewhere. There might be an initial rush, but come January it will not be difficult to get one online, no matter where you live. Well, perhaps if you're on the ISS.
I think you can use site like MyUSABox (http://www.myusabox.com/), but personally I don't have experience with it. Don't know if anyone can comment about the site

I'm pretty sure they are unable to block credit cards by country.
If your credit card belongs to an established network (Visa or Mastercard for example), the payment should go through smoothly.
I'll be placing an order as soon as the Nexus S is in stock at best-buy.com, I'll keep you guys posted regarding the payment.

I find no mention of warranty anywhere at all at Google, eBay or Best Buy. US warranties tend to be short, so I'd guess a phone sold in Greece would have a longer warranty, but at a higher price.

That will probably never happen. If you could buy loads of stuff somewhere at $530, would you sell them on eBay at the same price?

No, Best Buy does NOT ship to Europe.

best buy is 100% releasing the phone the 14th. confirmed even more

literally, ive called best buy coporate every single day since last sunday when i preordered our two thunderbolts, every single time ive gotten a different person, every single time i get the exact answer....
BEST BUY will be releasing it on the 14th, that does not mean verizon stores or other retailers will release it, but best buy will 100% be releasing it the 14th
the price is 199 w 2 year, again confirmed everyday this week by different personal including supervisors at best buy corporate, and best buy corporate mobile consultants.
why is all the speculation floating around? call 1800best buy, ask to speak with a mobile consultant, tell them you preordered and you demand to know the release date, you will get the exact same answer every single time!!!!
again 100% release date the 14 of feb ONLY BEST BUY
price WILL BE $199 ONLY BEST BUY!!
no speculation or rumor, call and see!
I highly doubt that Verizon is going to allow their flagship 4G device to be sold at Best Buy before it is available in the Verizon stores. If Best Buy releases it on the 14th it will be in Verizon stores on the 14th.
Edit: Also it is not going to be 199.99 (can't post this as a link but you can go to the bellow site and see)

somehow i doubt the 750 price mark
thats nuts for a phone, tablets are cheaper than that!
some part of the paper doesnt make sense too..
my local best buy told me it was 749 on the phone last week but then when I went in store to reserve mine, they didn't have a clue so who knows
I'm 100% positive Best Buy reps have as much knowledge of confirmed release dates as we do.
Signs are pointing to the 24th, imo.

Verizon is releasing 24th I too was told by best buy mobile the 14th absolutely they rnt on the same time frame as vzw ..HTC says the phone is ready and best buy is releasing it..I don't understand vzw waiting its rediculous to me..but vzw never worries abt taking care of their customers like ..well ..best buy does..

Like I said I highly doubt Verizon will allow this, if Best Buy releases it before it is in VZW stores then VZW will simply not allow Best Buy to sell their phones. This is VZW's flagship 4G device there is not way that VZW is going to allow someone else to sell it first.

It's highly possible still because they are independent stores and if they do sell early then Verizon can do jack about it

who cares if you can pre order from best buy early. last year when the incredible came out you could pre order from best buy and guess what? best buy was only shipped 10 phones and all the other people that preorderd got theirs when verizon finally released it. i have been told by a few vrz reps 24 is the day.

I understand what you are saying here, however those independent stores will find themselves unable to offer any contract pricing with VZW or have the ability to turn on the phone. So even if you got it from a Best Buy like that early you would still have to go to VZW to activate the phone.
Not to mention VZW would most certainly be able to tell the store that they can not sell a phone that has VZW branding all over it.

Not sure on that. The phone is HTC's property, not Verizon's. HTC can stop the release, not sure that Verizon would have the legal power to stop them. They could definitely throw threats out there, but not sure that it would do any good. They COULD decide to not activate any of the phones until their release date, which would still be pointless. What difference does it make what phone you are using? One other thing, if this delay was due to software problems, what was the point if you could push an update 10 days later?
The phone just got approved a couple of days ago by the FCC , one reason for a delay.

Actually, It makes sense for Verizon to allow customers to buy the Bolt from Best Buy on Valentine's Day while they sell it at a later date because they can hustle customers into not cashing in their last NE2 credit in some cases and more importantly (for VZW), hustle more people into getting 2-year contracts with BB instead of 1-year contracts (or no contract) with them.

I've seen phones show up on the FCC site 2 weeks after it's release, Verizon dictates the date the phone shows up on that site not the FCC. The phone was reviewed and passed federal clearance weeks if not more than a month ago I'm sure.

HTC Sensation at best buy?

Has anyone heard if and when they will be carrying this phone?
THANKS.

Good question and it appears the answer is yes.
My only issue with Best Buy. Is that I'm a NON-contract customer with T-Mobile USA. And Best Buy always wants to charge an arm + both legs for anyone who wants to buy off contract. They specialize in selling with contract, they don't like us non-contract folks.
I'd love it if they'd price match a non-contract price, even the T-Mobile store's $549. Just because Best Buy has some nice protection and buyback type plans. (Not saying I'd nessisairly use their plans, but nice to have options if you want them.) But for me, they're not an option if they do the Sensation like all their other non-contract phones, that they sell for way over regular retail price. I'm sure their non-contract price for the Sensation will be about $650 . They're already selling the EVO 4G out of contract for $599, while you can get that at Amazon off contract for just $469.99, regular retail price for that one is $499.99
Available on the 15th, according to Best Buy Mobile employees
Found out from a friend, that Best Buy WILL price match T-Mobile's price. Plesant news for me . Now I just need this thing unlocked and rooted so I can buy one .
just walk into a walmart and buy it today...i got mind yesterday
Thanks for that info. As for me I buy at Best Buy because well i have credit there and don't want to open up credit anywhere else.
18 month no interest is not a bad deal for me since i always pay off my purchases within a few months so it works for me.
I really hope they match and have this phone on the June 15.

Where is it only $149?

Has anyone NOT living in an LTE area managed to get it for $149 either in person or online?
What is a ZIP code I can put in that will show up as a $149 area? I want to see if I can put that in, then proceed with checkout and see if it will let me do it.
If not I may just put in a ZIP code that gives a $149 price and then take a screenshot and see if Best Buy will price match based on what it shows on there.
Maybe it'll be a bit better if you listed where you lived. Someone in your area may chime in. There are so many zip codes that's offering it. I got mine at Manhattan, NY for $149 @ AT&T store.
Ours is $149.
I got it for 149 by calling customer service. I got to upgrade over 2 months early, they have me the cheaper price, and waived the upgrade fee. 95670 is my zip. You can see I was supposed to be charged 249.

They wouldn't budge for me. They say that my only options are to buy it for $249 online or in store, or over the phone for $349 (yeah, thats with 2 year upgrade!) so I guess I just have to wait until a better deal comes along unless Best Buy will price match.
Walmart has it for $199 via LetsTalk. Amazon has it for $189. The Best Buys in my area usually will accept Amazon pricematching.

I called and told them I was having problems with my phone and that I had gone through all the steps Apple told me to (I have an iPhone 4) and that it didn't resolve the issue and since it was out of warranty repair wasn't an option. I then told them that a friend of mine had been allowed to upgrade early when he was having problems with his phone and since it was only a month early and I had always been a good customer, never behind on payments or anything and that I wanted to upgrade early.
They put me on hold for about 5 minutes and when they came back they said I could upgrade but with them only, so either over the phone or in person at an AT&T store because they say it is impossible to change your official upgrade date, all they do is put a note on your account stating that you have been approved for an early upgrade and retailers (like Walmart, Best Buy, etc) do not have access to those notes so you could only upgrade with AT&T. I decided to just wait because I would end up paying $50 more for the same phone to buy it from AT&T.
I did find out some good news though, with AT&T upgrades are by the month, even at retailers. So if your upgrade date is 12-29-11 you can still upgrade on December 1st at any retailer you would like. When they check your eligibility it will say you are eligible. Helpful for people with upgrade dates in the middle or end of the month, not so helpful for people like you and me whose upgrade date is at the beginning of the month anyway.

Will N5 be available at BestBuy?

Hello everyone,
just a curiosity question: as most of us know that google sell some of its products at bestbuy (chromecast, nexus 7 tablets, chromebooks, etc)
I wonder does anyone know that Nexus 5 will be available at Best Buy too?
Thanks!
I work currently at Best Buy and have heard/seen nothing about it unfortunately, the mobile section works a little different than the rest of the store, they don't sell non contract phones so it would be unlikely that they would sell the Nexus 5 unless AT&T officially carries the phone as well.

Dangg I don't like it..
i just wish i knew if it will work on sprint.. cause i have an upgrade now.. waiting to see if it gonna come to sprint
unfortunately i don't think the N5 will be sold through best buy. it would be cool to buy it through best buy so you don't have to wait weeks for Google to keep their inventory levels up( looking right at the N4)
As previous poster said that BB does not carrier non contract phones is correct, BUT it may be carried online.
But at this point I personally or anyone in my department (mobile) has heard anything about it being carried.
There's actually a decent chance best buy will sell the nexus line up. They are currently setting up some best buys with a "Google experience" sections similar too the Samsung mini stores.

Correction! Best Buy can sell you a phone without contract! On that note, Best Buy has sold the Nexus S(not just the Galaxy Nexus) in the past! If I had to guess, I would say Best Buy won't sell it. But it's possible, seeing as the Nexus 7 was!
I used to work for BestBuy/Geek Squad.
They stopped selling or at least offering off contract phones. They used to sell them. They don't make money/margin from them.
They want you on a contract/upgrade to get kickbacks from the carriers.
Off contract phones don't sell well enough in the US enough to warranty the limited space in their stores.
They have to have items that make margin to stay alive, so space is premium.
Now should they sell them online, mabey, but you won't see it in a retail store.
Yes you can buy sku outright, but it will not sell for the $349 price as google is subsidizing that directly through the play store.
Now this time around with the Google End cap, it is a possibility, but based on previous Nexus Releases and Googles decision to stick with the playstore. I doubt that would happen.

Yes you can buy sku outright, but it will not sell for the $349 price as google is subsidizing that directly through the play store.
Now this time around with the Google End cap, it is a possibility, but based on previous Nexus Releases and Googles decision to stick with the playstore. I doubt that would happen.

BB needs to either commit, or GTFO. I just bought a HP Chromebook, and BB was my first destination: 3-5 weeks and no store stock is what I was told. Went to Play store, available with 1-2 day shipping. Will be here tomorrow from Lexington Kentucky. I know BB has a huge warehouse on the left coast, where these Chromebooks originally entered the U.S., so I don't understand how BB screwed up the logistics, but they aren't serving their customers by vacillating on stock and supply.

Not sure when you searched
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/11-6-ch...9070440984&skuId=2235039&st=2235039&cp=1&lp=1
my zipcode is 92692 and every store near me has it, not sure when you searched however I know HP didn't push out much inv until the 16th
As for Best Buy and the Nexus 5, My guess is unless google does a partnership with them they will not be getting the unlocked version, however might get a contract version with the top 3 carriers. I think we are all just waiting to see what Google does next.
But with a lot of new things happening between them

I'll be damned! Monday no one had it...now most stores near me say 3-5 DAYS (from weeks), and several stores across the bay claim to have stock. What a difference a few days makes...

That display has nexus 7 and Chrome cast on it in my store.
Best Buy Mobile WILL sell you a phone without a contract as long as it doesn't seem to be fraud. If you tell them you're putting it on your plan, and let them log into your account(whatever provider it may be), they will allow you to buy it. They actually do make margin selling the phone off contract, but they don't accumulate revenue on the backend since there is no activation through a carrier.

No way BB will be selling an N5 for the price you see it in the Play Store.

Never said they would.. In fact, on the first page I opinionated that they wouldn't be. I was referring to someone stating that Best Buy won't sell a phone unless it's activated with a 2 year contract.

Yeah, BB will sell you a phone off contract but they jack the price up higher then you can buy it anywhere else. Don't know why anyone wouldbuy a phone off contract there.
