This is one of the best things about my Nexus One. I remember hearing that the T-zones hack wouldn't work on the G2 because it is a branded T-mobile phone.
Any speculation, or confirmation if the $5.99 t-zones hack will allow web access on the Nexus S, like it does for the Nexus One?
I dont think the phone will be carried by T-Mobile, only offered through T-Mobile like the Nexus One was, so I believe it will still work, but that's just reasoning based on speculation.

That was my guess as well.
I wonder if best buy will make you upgrade your Tmobile plan, or let you simply extend your contract for 2 years.
I'd hate to lose the 5.99 tzones web access and be forced into a more expensive data plan.
It will only by offered by the bestbuy's that carry Tmobile phones.... I know a few (next to me) that only have Sprint & Verizon and they said they won't offer the phone but any bestbuy that carries TMO phones will.
As for upgrades it will require to up to a 2 year contract and you will then incur their $30 data package or their standard smartphone data plan.
That's the simple reason I go with the retail version rather than the upgrade as I run the $10 data plan... by going upgrade - $20 x 24 = $480 a raw deal IMO

Yeah, $5.99 tzones, or $10 data plan is worth it. I'd rather pay full retail than lose that.
This is what will determine this as a purchase for me.
I like paying 10/month for data rather than 30 which is ridiculous.
10/month = 120/year
30/month = 360/year

and i walked into my Tmobile store asked them and they told me yes they would, but either way i dont mind a trip to best buy Thursday morning

That isn't true. See excerpt from the Best Buy Mobile site:

All best buy stores in the LA area do not sell Tmobile. id have to make a 2 hour trip to get one if that is the case

Its full internet.
On my N1 I was able to get hspa, same with the NS.
The same thing for the $10 plan.

How much is the ETF for T-Mobile? I never really tried, then again I have been out of contract for a long time now, I always pay retail for my phones, ends up cheaper, atleast the way Tmobile does it
I saw it in Tmo's policy, it should be $200 ETF but I don't know if there is a catch in the policy for NEXUS S.

Google never set up the etf to charge people, $0
And the most they could have charged was $150 for the etf, so it only equals around $350

Adding a line would be done through Tmobile. So once you add a line, canceling it would require you to do it by going through Tmobile. In a sense, Best Buy can be thought of as a Tmobile retailer, if that makes it easier. They aren't the actually phone service themselves that can create/cancel lines.

Well t mobile CANT ask for it back, its not their device.
Leaving google themselves responsible for getting the phone back or charging a fee.
But does bestbuy have a fee or an equipment recovery fee with the NexS? Or is it on googles shoulders again? I need to know

its like going to tmobile and getting a contract they will make you get the data plan there
If you pay $529 you can get it without internet.
If you only pay $199 then you get a 2 year contract and will have internet added to you plan.

T-mobile won't allow you to convert an Even More Plus line into an Even More line of service.
I want the phone by upgrading, but I dont want the internet/web service/data plan/etc. (just the phone only).

I understand what both of you are saying, but I don't understand what that means for me and my account. Is that to say that the ONLY way for me to get this phone is going to be to buy it unlocked regardless? There's got to be a different way than that.

But to do an upgrade and get it at $200, you have to get a data plan, they will force you to get the data plan, you can try later online or calling tmobile and try to get it removed, but probably won't be able to.
my parents are on my family plan they are eligible for upgrade ...can i have them get the phone then cancel the data plan?

I think you can't, since they get the phone with the data plan, you must have it for 2 years. If you take it off in less than 2 years, thats called breaking the contract and you have to pay uhhmmm $200, i think?
I still have the G1 and cheaper $65 contract which includes data. Could I buy the unlocked Nexus S and just put the SIM from the G1 in it? The cheapest new contract I could find is $79+

If that Best Buy SELLS T-Mobile service (not just prepaid), then they should be able to. Otherwise you'll need to buy full price and go to a T-Mobile store.

When I added the phone to my shpping cart, it asked me i I am a T-Mobile contract holder (Which i am not) and I said that I do, which gave me the option to buy the phone at the full price of $529. I am afraid that I am going to receive a LOCKED Nexus S with T-Mobile affiliations and that it's maybe not Sim Free.
Is this the case? If so, how do I order it SIM Free and UNLOCKED Online? The only options on the website was to buy it either for $199 with a T-Mobile contract or to buy it for $529, but again, I am not sure if this is fully unlocked or it is still with a T-Mobile Simcard.

nope, box has a tmobile sim in it but noowhere on the phone does it say tmobile
People at best buy online support are complete fools, they keep saying it's locked, even though twitter and their FAQ say its unlocked.
The whole point of Pure Google phone is that it's unlocked and unbranded
All Nexus S phones are unlocked by default with no carrier branding on the phone or box.
Pricing just varies based on if you want a contract or buying outright.

Best Buy couldn't even get the ordering live until about 10 minutes late ...
Then I tried to order 3 times; each time I got a vague credit verification error that made no sense.
Plus, they tried to switch me from my $10/mo unlimited 3G data to $10/mo 4G data with a 200MB cap... no thanks.
I was able to order by phone, but the process took over an hour. At least I got to keep my data plan.
Total cost was $250 after taxes and activation fees.

I have a G1 and tried to upgrade to the nexus s with my existing 24.99 unlimited G1 data plan. The rep in the store said she was pretty sure I had to upgrade my plan. She said she would try it without upgrading my plan and got almost through the entire process but her system would only allow for the full price option for the phone.
Did you do anything special to get them to let it work with your existing plan??

I'm having problems getting Best Buy's site to let me buy this thing. It keeps getting hung up when I select a plan - just keeps asking me if I currently have T-Mo service and won't let me actually select an answer...
Also, since I'm a new customer, would I be able to sign up for T-Mo's promotional plan (1500+unlimited for 79.99)?

This is my plan, I am on sprint right now and when I look at my bill my minutes are so low I barely break fifty a month. Data usage can go high on months, I just plan on using my gizmo account with the built in SIP for the random call I need to make when I am about town, also will be porting in my current cell number into google voice.
and well hey if tmobiles coverage is so so in an area im in I can always go to mcdonalds and make a call on free wifi

To get a Nexus S with the data only plan (webConnect plan), you must buy the Nexus S at full price. Then call up T-Mobile and request the webConnect plan, and give them the SIM card number for your Nexus S (there's an unactivated SIM card included with every Nexus S).
The only way to get the subsidized price is to start a new 2-year voice+data contract.
So I called around to all my local best buy stores here in Louisville ky. A few of the stores say that they have the phone now. My question is, If I go buy the phone which is listed as a sprint phone, can I take it and use it on att?

Yep. It's kind of ironic that so many folks buying a google phone can't figure out how to use google search.
There needs to be a big huge freakin' banner ad or something on the Nexus subforums that says "ALL NEXUS DEVICES ARE UNLOCKED FROM THE FACTORY - YOU CAN USE THEM WITH ANY CARRIER REGARDLESS OF WHO YOU BUY IT FROM" basically.
Yes, we know Sprint is a CDMA-based carrier like Verizon, but the Nexus 5 for Sprint is still the same phone because the Nexus 5 supports GSM/CDMA/LTE out of the box.
The simple answer to the OP's question is "Yes, if you buy the Sprint version free and clear (since you'd be crazy to but it for Sprint use then start using it with AT&T and still have to pay the Sprint service costs) you can then use it with AT&T or most anybody else (except Verizon it seems)."
That's why the free and clear price for the Sprint model is $449 - that works out to $149 for the phone subsidized by Sprint so if you buy it then cancel, they hit you with the $300 ETF (early termination fee) which ends up with you paying that $449 anyway 'cause $300+$149=$449.
