Availability: Due Sunday 5th December

I actually think it looks pretty crap. It's a basic clip with a separate power lead

Looks crap. HD2 one was much better

Car Panel in landscape mode? hmmm

Yep, looks crap
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

This is my first post on XDA so a big HI to all...
I think this is an excellent car holder due to the fact that this one is very minimal and by the looks of things... it could support a DHD in a case. I could be wrong but the lower 'arms' look flexible enough to take a DHD thats a few mm larger. Perhaps someone could confirm.
Furthermore, if a manufacturer could please produce a desk charger that supports cases on phones since i think a lot of people, including me, would be interested in this.

Do anybody know if we can use a HD2 carholder for our DHD?

I do know - yes you can!

you mean the 'HTC CU S400'?

Agreed, although I think a combination of the CU S400 'stand' with this 'body / holder' would be perfect as the CU S400 mount and stand is great but the holder gets in the way of the buttons....

It may look crap but in terms of not hiding the connections or the power button, it's much better, due the 3 points of holding the DHD...
and it's much cheaper (even more if bought on another webstore)

True, the only issue I have with it is the 'arm'. It doesnt look too flexible.
To be honest I'm currently using the car holder for my old XDA Orbit 2.

All I have done is strech it open slightly to fit the DHD and it is great! I have full access to all buttons it swivels, pivots, rotates and flexes to all positions! It even holds the DHD pretty tightly without making any marks
I'm just worried that during a very large bump it may slip out so would prefer to have something like this with the 3-point 'holder' of the offical DHD.
If someone could make something like this......
and throw in an official HTC charger and audio jack I would definately buy one.

Nice specs!

About that craddle looks very nice, but for me that use the DHD to output music to my music phono input from my car, it's no good.
It would be cool if the cradle was able to plug an independent 3.5mm phono cable. That way, it's a crap.
Other thing is, I always use the DHD on GPS mode, in landscape. Don't feel any security with cradle when in landscape mode.

DHD on order, just poking around to see what the deal is with car kits and the like.
Got a rubbery case for my HD2 so always had to take it out, put it in the cradle and then back again when I got out of the car, not a huge issue but sliding the phone in and out of the cradle eventually cut away at the rubbery skin on the HD2, presumably clipping the DHD in and out of an official or at least close too, kit will cause similar damage to the phone?

Probably not the same problem, since DHD doesn't have the rubbery skin but an aluminum case instead. However, if the kit is poorly made, I guess it could scratch the aluminum case.

I can categorically state that this holder works with the DHD, and it doesnt block any of the connectors or buttons : http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/windowseat-handsfree
It has fully adjustable clamps at the back that can accomodate the Desire HD no problem, and the holder holds the DHD firmly. I had my DHD in one of these earlier this week in a Carphonewarehouse store.
Nonetheless, I think I am still going to wait for the official one as I like the idea of this magical cable that "tells" the phone to switch to Car mode automatically. But for those that dont care so much about that, I can confirm this Griffin holder really does do the trick. CPW sell it for about £30 but I am sure it can be obtained for less on the internet.

surely there is no substitute to a Brodit

might go for this holder anyway, could do with the power
any ideas on RRP?

Pic is straight. USB connection for charging is at the top of the phone..
for HTC Touch HD was really good.
Probably I`ll buy for SGS as well
Hope the charger is 1mA
even at 1mA it's not powerful enough to charge the battery when using the GPS
i'm looking for a 2mA car charger
The estimate prices you can check from DSL Developments

Now I do like Brodit, but I may have to get my hacksaw out according to these pics.
Unless Im reading it wrong, there's a big flap of plastic obscuring the camera lens.
I like to record my car journeys you see - for the times I get into an accident with a less than honest person who invents witnesses.

that's a great idea!
i've always used a separate camera for that purpose, because i bike and drive, it's extremely important when you are on a bicycle as most car vs. bicycle goes either unreported, or car always win the debate even though it's the car's driver fault.
Off topic (but discussed in topic) I've just purchased this 2A charger http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2A-car-charge...ting_LaptopAccessories_RL&hash=item45f367d712 cheap and cheerful no holder but provide the correct power for maximum use of the device
Isn't a 2 amp charger way overkill? I have a 0.7 amp samsung charger and that charges my phone just fine while running mobile maps.
i ordered a 2 Amp charger from another source, i already have a generic phone holder that works for all phones and PDA
no, anything less than 1 Amp will not charge your phone, if you keep the screen ON, and using GPS + using Bluetooth
1 Amp will keep your battery from falling down drastically, but it is still not enough to charge the battery meanwhile all the features are ON
2 Amp is only enough to keep all those features running, and charger the battery.
that comes from experience using the HTC Athena, which is just as much of a power hog as the SGS i9000

Looks like something that can be made useful.

Compatibility states Galaxy S specifically (along with their own phones that eh... can't possibly be called comaptible at the moment, as they don't run Android 2.x which seems to be a requirement for the gadget... )

It's particularily useful for us who have opted for a phone with a large screen, as we can access stuff without having to dig the phone out of the pocket.
From the press release:
The Sony Ericsson LiveView™ uses Bluetooth™ connectivity to wirelessly pair up to a compatible handset and allows consumers to control the phone without taking it out of their pocket or handbag. Read text messages, see incoming calls and keep up to date with the latest news on Facebook™ and Twitter™.
The Sony Ericsson LiveView™ allows the user to control the Sony Ericsson music [and presumably other players? - mickeko note] features of the handset from the micro display, selecting tracks and controlling volume. The product also serves as a calendar reminder, displaying calendar events and other phone applications.

It certainly looks interesting, and is the first real innovation I've seen by SE in a long time. My only gripe is that it isn't advertised as Waterproof (and probably isn't).
Pity, as that would have justified it's purchase by me, unless it's RRP is rediculously expensive
Nice device, but it would've been great if it had a 3.5mm headphone jack and a built-in mic, so you can use it as a BT hands free clip as well. , why did they left that part out

It has Bluetooth, no need wired accessories. The 3,5 mm jack takes more room and waterproofing that hole?

I might invest on something like this if it had BT headset functionality, otherwise its just a gimmick. Whats the point ?? If you are anyway going to have a wired headset then you can always get one with buttons to control calls and music. When you forget about music controlling, there is nothing much left. Read a RSS feed on a 1.3 screen when you have a 4" high res screen on your pocket or read a SMS on this tiny screen first and then take out the phone to reply
on the other hand if it acted as a BT clip it would in fact provide some functionality instead of being just a gimmick. BTW SE doesn't say this is water proof, so why would having a 3.5mm pose any problems ?

It is not waterproof.
I think that SE seems it primary as a wrist "watch". Do you really like to connect your wrist by wire to your headset? Every time when you swing your hand your headset is rolling around?
I might buy one, if the price is appropriate. I mean below 200 euros, it makes 2000 Swedish crowns.
They might make a S-version where is the 3,5 mm jacket, if the customers like to have that. Make a proposal to them.

No, definitely not as a wrist watch, maybe clip it to my shirt or something when listening to music.
Are you willing to pay upto 200 euros (275 USD) for something like that . Even an ipod nano 6th Gen doesn't cost that much (150USD ). And you can ware it as a watch too if you really want. For me a retail price of more than $75 doesn't make any sense, but still I wouldn't buy , perhaps if it comes down to like $50, then I would consider , but even then I hardly find any use for it, the time is displayed in very small numbers, and when it goes to sleep you'll have to wake it up by pushing a button to see the time, I don't see calendar or alarm functions, so its not even worth as a watch. Of course one might argue since the phone is in your pocket you don't need to have an alarm on that device, I'm just trying to find ways to justify it's cost, thats all..
no Nexus One compatibility ?
i wonder how long is the battery life on that thing
not being waterproof is already a big no no for me

I want one! If they are reasonably priced in Canada / US I will pick one up for sure.
As I recall they are about 59Euro's from Amazon germany. More expensive if from Amazon UK. I tried ordering one but they don't/won't send to AU.
I've bought one of these couple days ago for £50 off superetrader (MoDaCo Edition). I intended to use it mainly as music player control but that function doesn't work on SGS, you can control volume levels only. It's quite nice for checking incoming messages and tweets without taking your mobile out of the packet. Battery lasts about 12 hours but be aware that bt on your sgs is on all the time. Quite dissapointing is that only few apps on the market support it. I think i'm gonna sell it anyway.

Thats odd, it should support AVRCP profile (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile), and I have read somewhere that it does. Try with PowerAmp (which is better than the built in one anyways) or some other player. But built in player should work too.
Does this mean those poor souls using SE phones will finally see an update?
Yea this thing is available in France for 59e. As stated above though you can't controle the music yet, just the volume. I'm hoping this will be fixed because that's how i inted to use it, would be great to controle the music without taking the phone out of the pocket.
I thought battery life was better than 12h though...
Only thing i'm wondering about is battery consumption on the SGS itself...
and yea SE X10 are getting upgraded, 2.1 wooooooohoooooooo when 2.3 is comming out. What a shame, we complain about samsung but damn SE used to be top notch, what happened there?
I bought a sony ericsson mbw 100 instead. Battery lasts a week and the drain on bluetooth is about 5% of your battery. A negligible hit for the benefit you receive
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I would have bought it if it had a mike built in as with a headphone without mike you have to use the Phones mike so will have to take it out anyway.
But if this had a mike it really could remove the need to take out the Phone.

Car Dock?

Would really like to get a nice car dock/clip to use, hopefully one that allows the keyboard to be opened while it's in the dock, and be charging/3.5mm plugged in.

Hey,
First post.
I just got the G2 and a Satachi SCR-31. The universal mount (plus a iPhone mount) works perfect with the G2. It has a clever button on the back that adjusts the width of the holder. Plus cushy sides.

Can you open and use the keyboard with that mount? It doesn't look like you can, but maybe that's just from the pictures I'm looking at.
It may be possible... I'll give it a try tomorrow. I worried that it will be precarious, but we shall see.
it works!

Nice toyota (scion?) but thanks for the pictures!
wow that's pretty neat. i wouldn't mind getting one.
My head unit has A2DP so I stream music to my car over bluetooth. I would also like to use the navigation feature of the G2 so I would like a car mount, and one with a car charger built in to it would be amazing so I could run the cable so it's not in the way and just leave it plugged in and set my phone down in it and it would charge automatically (I'm lazy, so sue me.)
I kind of doubt that anyone will make one of these for the G2 because those types of car mounts are kind of rare, so I was looking at ones that might be compatible. Motorola makes one for the Droid X that looks like it actually might work. Check out the size comparison:
http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/T-Mobile-G2-phone-size-compare-pc_4839.html (pick Droid X from the drop down)
and if you click on the side view and line up the phones, you can tell that the USB port is in pretty much exactly the same spot. The G2 is smaller, but wider. I don't think the extra width will be a problem since A. the mount has some extra room to accomidate a case, and B. the front lip is purely cosmetic and could easily be filed down.
It might be kind of ugly, only because the G2 is a little bit shorter than the Droid X.
As you see from this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaxqSDkcmP0
The Droid X mount has a removable sleeve so in my mind that pretty much guarentees that it will fit the G2. I'm thinking about buying one to see.
What do you guys think?
What about like this one being used for the Desire? The HTC Desire and the G2 have very similar specs...minus that pesky thickness!
G2- 4.69 in (119mm) x 2.38 in (60.4mm) x .56 in (14.1mm)
Desire- 4.69 in (119mm) x 2.36 in (60mm) x .47 in (11.9mm)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgtEDCWpLgY
I like that one too but is it clipped on to the air vent ... I want to say slits? Or is it clipped somewhere else?
Also, I think the tob clip would have to be filed somewhere cause the 3.5mm jack is almost in the middle of the device so the poses to be a problem.

Im not quite sure, honestly I hope its the air vent. My phone gets sooooo hot when in my car in GPS mode. Being near and in shot of the air vent would surely help, no?
Hmm, come to think of it, Im pretty sure that Desire I posted was in an Iphone 3GS car dock. You think the G2 would fit into Iphone 3GS ****? Id imagine no but like ive said, G2 very similar in size to Desire besides the extra heft in thickness.
It's worth a shot but someone has to guinea pig it for us. I would but I don't get paid till next week and that's a little long to wait for an answer.
I really wouldn't mind trying one of them out though. The droid x dock looks a tad bit more promising imho...

The desire dock in that video doesn't appear to have any charging capibilities, which I would like. I think I'm going to shell out the 35 for this droid x dock. Worst case, I just resell it

Well if you're concerned about having space to plug in an aux cord, then maybe the droid x car mount is right for you. There is going to be a bit of extra space at the top of the phone since the droid x is taller than the g2. Personally, I have a head unit with bluetooth and a2dp so I don't need an aux cable.

That couldn't work, the N1 charge port is on the bottom of the phone instead of the side, and I think it may be MiniUSB instead of Micro.. (not sure though)
My Droid X car dock will get here tomorrow, and I'm going on a little road trip this weekend right after I get off work so I'll probably post an update, and if the dock works I'll put up a youtube video of it too.

Yeah, that'd be great if you could. Also you would have to run this without a case right?
Not necessarily, the droid X dock has a removable insert to accomidate cases. You might have to do some slight modifications to get one to fit. I don't have a case to test it with but I'll definitely see if it looks like there will be extra room.

So I discovered this while I had the stereo removed because it ate a cd that I wanted back, it quite literally friction fits into the opening left behind when you remove the stereo and dash bezel around it.

so since this fits, and since the cheapest way for me to get a non-european charger for this thing is to just buy another keyboard dock, I'll take this one i have now with all the strange german keys and gut it for all my connections.
my question is, is there any way to get audio out of this thing without using the 3.5mm jack on the side? I could just make the mount float it but I like how it looks recessed into the dash like that. looks like it belongs there.
so now, interfacing USB with all kinds of fun stuff inside the vehicle yes? 12v power supply? any other ideas of useful apps/accessories for this dockable hi-res car pc?
That's pretty kool!

The stand alone cradle shows a 3.5mm audio out. If you could figure out the wiring you could set up a 12 volt charger and 3.5mm out through the main port. Another option would be using a bluetooth adapter with your stereo.

bluetooth audio still sounds like garbage. I have nothing more than an amplifier and a 3.5mm input in the Jeep now (use it with my phone or my tablet) and since I live in the ghetto, it already looks like someone stole my stereo so it's the perfect anti-theft solution!
what is this "stand alone cradle" you speak of? where do I find this? does anyone have a pinout for the asus proprietary connector?
I kinda want to gut the keyboard and just solder a 3.5 directly to the connector, I want to utilize the SD card reader and USB header on the dock plus a few of the hard buttons will get linked to my steering wheel buttons (track +/-, volume +/- power on/off and "mode" which will toggle between poweramp and navigation. I don't think the standalone cradle will make this easier.
if the cradle is cost effective and can be had with an american charger, I'd be stoked. my euro charger + adapter keep falling out of the wall! and I wouldn't mind having a cradle if it has HDMI on it, I still want an american keyboard for it though, the german one is strange.
it's a WW sku tablet, not a US sku. I bought it in germany.

That's a nice fit. Buy an Alpine power block amp for your door speakers. Its a small amp with 45 watts RMS x 4 that can fit behind your dashboard. Has two sets of rca inputs that can be split into one channel. Then get a rca to 3.5 headphone jack adaptor. You got yourself a head unit that will power all speakers in your car.

Remember the wifi dongle? Wonder could you fit it to the tablet and still get it in the dash. It might provide access to the port if gutted and rewired for the connections you need?

I already have bigger stuff in there, but yeah, I just installed one of those on a scooter, they're rad little amps! I've got bi-amped components up front and a 10" sub in the back. It's no SPL competition winner but it sounds freakin AWESOME. i like running off the 3.5 'cause I can plug it into other stuff. I'm trying to figure out what to do with the hole in the dash behind the tablet since I have all the other stuff in the back.
here's some more indash porn (ubuntu unity @ 1920x1200 fullscreen goodness.... F yeah!) I'm actually VNC'ing into a chrooted install on my samsung galaxy s3 over wifi (along with leeching internet access) the tablet responds much better when it's not actually running the linux install
much like the tablet just fits, my galaxy s3 in its otterbox docks right into the dash if I open the ashtray, another perfect friction fit, and I can even push up on the ashtray to hit the power button on the phone. I need a pic of them both docked, but unfortunately they're also the only two cameras I have... #firstworldproblems
you can almost read my e-mail, HAHAHAHA!!!
In my car I have a nice Kenwood deck that syncs with my tablet via Bluetooth. It mounts on a 2 point swivel mount I custom made. My case just flips over the top of a square of plexi glass. Sometimes I don't always use bluetooth . Instead I use a 3.5mm. I have alpine type s components all around powered with that power pack. In the back two alpine type s 12 inch subs with a kicker 1000.1 amp.
When I plug my tablet in via 3.5 headphone jack the bass is not strong at all. I tried volume plus but even with bass boost all the way up it sounds weak and even distorted. Synced with Bluetooth or any other source on my Kenwood head unit the subs hit strong. As soon as I switch to headphone jack the bass drops to all most nothing. This happens to my android phone too (pantech marauder). Any other devices plugged in via headphone jack the bass hits strong like normal. Does this happen to you I cannot seem to find out why this is happening

turn the "bass boost" ALL the way off.
I don't know why, but their "bass boost" sharply cuts EVERYTHING below 80hz and boosts everything in a 24db/octave slope around 150hz.
It's the most ineffective "bass boost" i've ever heard.
Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuude that is awesome! It looks even more kickass with Ubuntu on it! Please drive safely though hahaha. And I like your idea of hooking up the buttons to your steering wheel! That's pretty epic. Please take more pics when you're done with your stuff! :good: :good: :good:

CheapXJ, I'm working out the installation of an Android tablet into my own WJ Grand Cherokee now. I'm debating between a 10'' model such as what you've used and a 7'' model.
The 10'' model requires significantly less frabrication for an installation, but would likely not see much use outside of the vehicle (Something I plan to do).
The 7" model requires enough fabrication to make me question it, but would get a lot of use outside of the vehicle as well.
How tight is the friction fit? If I were to trim the vents off of the center dash trim piece, would there still be enough friction to hold it?
Can you provide any more pictures?

Post Your Car Setup here!

I ordered this Accessories for my Car Setup:
http://www.osomount.com/our-mounts/13-oso-zero-mount.html
http://www.belkin.com/us/F4U037-Belkin/p/P-F4U037
and a Belkin 1.8m ChargeSync Cable
I tell later how good this works.

I'm thinking about getting the Griffin BlueTrip since it's low profile. If there's a friction mount that will work on this phone, I would probably snag one.

Here's what I have. It all works like a charm.
I don't have link posting privileges so Amazon listing titles will have to do.
Mountek nGroove Universal CD Slot Mount (Black)
Belkin F8Z492TTP Bluetooth Music Receiver
Griffin Powerjolt Dual Universal USB Micro Colors May Vary
The mount clamps onto the inside of my CD slot. I think it's better than windshield suction for reliability.
The Bluetooth unit only comes with a wall charger. Luckily it requires 5V for power so I cut off that end and put a USB plug on it. The auxiliary audio cable is included.
I got that power adapter because it sits totally flush with my power port.
My car's auxiliary audio jack and power port are inside the centre console so it's all hidden away. I haven't had to look at it since I first put it in. It pairs perfectly every time.

Overall I'm fairly satisfied. My HU doesn't have bluetooth and I didn't want to pay to get another one. Also, the X2 will continue charging my phone even when I'm running Pandora and Waze at the same time.
Okay fellas. Is there any way to get the awesome blue tooth connectivity junk in a car with a cassette player?
EDIT.: PLEASE IGNORE LOL

Let me know how well that bluetooth receiver sounds with your music. I've been looking for something exactly like this but have read lots of bad reviews of the sound quality using these bluetooth adapters.
I use TuneLink for Android, which is basically a Bluetooth to FM transmitter for cars like mine without a 3.5mm Aux Input. Sound quality is really good and miles apart from other FM transmitters I have used over the years.

Found a better deal for the belkin bluetooth here http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004CLYJ2I?in=4&is=300&qid=1357392847&sr=8-16 I been using it for a month just for music since I have bluetooth in my car for calls. It sounds pretty good and I only paid 36 for it a month ago on Amazon

If you have a nice audio system in your car and are accustomed to Hi-Fi audio in your vehicle (i.e. always opting for higher bit rate MP3, AAC, or even AIFF), there is NO bluetooth setup that you are going to be satisfied with for music.
While I use BT to listen to podcasts on my phone, I still burn CDs or use a direct connection for music. BT is convenient, but not even close to hi quality audio (hell... it isn't even close to a mid rate mp3). Anyone who tells you different either has never heard hi quality audio, or simply does not care about it.

I guess you can throw me in the "does not care about it" pile. lol. I have been using the HTC Stereo clip in my setup for audio and the thing thumps! I don't have hi fi sh!t in the car, just an aftermarket JVC with an aux port for the stereo clip, some aftermarket speakers that fit the stock setup (I have a 4 yr old to lug around in my truck) so space is limited, especially in going shoppping.
I used to feel the same way when I used my itouch years ago with those belkin FM transmitters. Depending where you are if there are saturated radio stations in your city, the FM transmitters will sound really crappy. But once you hit a clear spot, it's ok, but you can hear the static here and there. From that point, I had a tape deck in my car. Used the tape aux setup and plugged that into the itouch and that sounded 100x better.
But after saying that, I migrated back to burning random CD's until about a half year ago. When I got the stereo clip, using poweramp to tweak it's settings on the bt side, and the sound was just as good as a burned CD IMO.
But keep in mind, "I just don't care about it", remember? I somewhat agree that listening to CDs would be the clearest way to go and burning them is the next step to mix what you want, but doing that on the fly in poweramp or similar, is just so much more convenient not to mention less wires to mess with. I mean I remember adding gps onto my Sony Clie N70 pda. God that was like stringing xmas lights lol.
Bottom line, it really depends on how far you want to go in getting the "best" sound for your. Like for me that just don't care, I'm sure many of you will find something suitable. I guess that's the reason for this thread, no?
Why not just put all your music on a USB flash drive and stick it into your car?
solves both your problems.

Well for me, I only have an aux port no usb port on my HU. Not gonna spring on a new HU when the truck has 140k miles on it.
I've gone for the Mountek. Very impressed with the build quality...
