Disappointed with Zagg Shield - Desire HD Accessories

I have used Zagg Shield and Skins with Desire before (and was quite happy), but this time I have to say I am very disappointed.
1. I cant believe the cut are very bad designed (worst than the generic one on review from one of the thread in this forum). I have a feeling it may be rushed to the market.
2. The curve are just wont stick.
3. I bought the Maximum protection, and yet, you can obviously see certain area are not even covered.
4. For the price I paid, I expect a much better quality control from Zagg. If this is $1 or $2 cheap skin protector from China or Ebay, I dont mind. Or should I say I would have expected that quality.
Anyway, I will try to contact Zagg regarding a replacement, hopefully they will send me a better package. Normally Zagg though is pretty good with the customer service and respond. So I will wait and see...

Can you please post some pictures? I want to see if they did as bad as their iPhone 4 invisible shield .

Im gonna have to agree with you on this one. I installed it in a steamy bathroom and still managed to get bits trapped under. That would of been my fault, but in comparison to the cheap Devdef protection, the Zagg had loads of tiny micro-bubbles and indeed the corners just would not stick down despite both sets of protection being installed in the same way. I disliked the sticky feel to the Zagg and to be honest so much so that Ive taken it off and put my spare Devdef one on. I have some Terapin screen protectors so hoping they do a better job at making the screen look good, as with the Devdef the screen looks a bit blurry but feels good atleast.

hi i got mine on friday done my back on one mobile
and its ok considering i got 50% off but i would be upset if i had paid full price
still got my cheap ebay front on just now.
but like you i have one corner that refuses to stick, the one bottom right of the battery cover
i might take it off and have another go
but so far at full price i would be moaning like hell
half price its not bad
would i rush to buy another maximum protection, probably not

Here are some of the pictures I have taken...some may not be clear, but you can still see (not really the quality i expected, at least I had better with my original desire).

Ya...Of course...in fact I was surprised it come from Zagg. Where the hell is the quality control?? Dont tell me they are just rushed and send directly from factory in China??

Try BSE (bestskinsever) instead of Zagg maybe could be a good alternative.

i tried a zagg shield and couldn't believe they go so many good reviews.
I am a vehicle graphics fitter by trade, so i know exactly how to fit things 100 times the size of this and i couldn't get a good finish. I emailed zagg to see if they were willing to help and they couldn't care less. It was blamed on a fitting error.
Suffice to say, i won't be buying anything of theirs again.

Zagg are a bunch of cowboys. They rely on fake reviews and misleading ads to catch the unwary. Steer well clear.

Bodyguardz will have their's done soon, I spoke to them the other day.

Just received mine today, I can "vouch" that it's just that bad. I should've waited and read the "real" review before purchasing it.

So did you get the max-protection kit ? or the easy install kit?
Because i heard that the easy kit is just plain easy, but the max-protection kit is 10 times harder to apply.

Zagg has got way to much orange peel..
The best screen protector has to be Steinheil's....by far the best of the best..
I don't think they make one for the DHD yet though..

I am using zagg just on my screen with no problems.

just so you guys know HTC do their own screen protectors. THEY ARE TERRIBLE. the amount of finger marks they pick up is ridiculous. my £2 one off ebay was better. these ones are thicker but you cant read the screen without wiping it several times. avoid.

My desire case experience

Bought a case from Amazon for £1.79 and wanted to share what a great find it is.
Already bought a Krussel leather off the self from CPW which was fine for a while but now it has loosened a bit a couple of times the phone has almost flown out of the pouch. Luckily I never dropped it!
In some desperation I searched for a silicon/gel case to get me by till some official cases appear on the market. I knew others had some mixed reviews about the nexus one cases mobilefun were selling but I didn't want to spend that much on something that I was intending to be temporary. Instead I found this on amazon Accessory Village HTC Google Nexus One (Black) Super Hydro Gel Protective Armour/Case/Skin/Cover/Shellon.
It's really good! Power button and volume buttons are perfect with raised bits over them. All holes match up fine, only part that is not perfect is the speaker holes on the back and I'm sure I can modify them.
I've taken some pics and will upload them later when I get in front of my pc.
Great find!
Looking at it, it seems to be identical to the one that MobileFun are offering, albeit you save 9 of your Great British pounds
I ordered one the same as this from eBay earlier, I hope it does the job till something more permanent comes along!
I have this aswell.
It's a slightly tighter fit than one would expect, and i do fear it may start to damage the back of the phone if left on for a long period of time. When i say that i mean the rubber type material on the back of the phone may start to wear away? There's been reports of it already.
It is for the Nexus one and not Desire (like so many right now) but for the money it's a good temporary case.
Argh. Got side tracked last night and ran out of time to post pics. Will do that later this morning.
Forgot also to mention 2 important things.
1 the supplier doesn't charge delivery in the UK and it arrived next day.
2 the case pictured is totally different from the one I received. It's not black, its semi transparent with a nice dotted pattern. It doesn't have a hideous red stripe across the back and there is no nexus one logo on it. In fact as its semi transparent u can pretty clearly see the HTC logo through it.
Something else, the case is a perfect fit I think. Its just tight enough to make it just a little difficult to put on but not so tight you think it will damage the phone.
Pics now below. Ignore the screen protector its just a temporary one till a proper one arrives.

I bought the same case but paid 2.95 on ebay :-(
Agree it's a good fit, but still concerned it might mark the phone, which I can only see it doing if removing and inserting the phone from the case a lot, as it's a good fit and does not move around.
don't worry about it marking the phone, I have exactly the same silicon case but for htc hero (the same colour, looks and all) and it has never marked my phone for 9 months I've been using it.

Your very welcome
Thanks for the info Predo, nice to know it will be kind to my phone. How does your hero version look after 9 months in your pocket? Still have the shine?
Saquib - 2.95 still a very good price
Have now put a Vikuiti screen protector on mine, wow, silky smooth. Really easy to fit and worth the £9ish I paid for it. So glad it was on there as ive already managed to scratch it with something, no idea how just glad it wasnt the screen Also bought this from Amazon and was delivered from Germany in 2 days with free delivery. Very easy to fit too.
One other thing about the case, it fits so well that if your screen protector is also a perfect fit then the case tends to lift the edges of the screen protector. You can see that on the pics above. I had to trim a little off the corners a the top of my screen protector to stop this but its now perfect.
look just like new. i think that this case is awesome and will deffo be getting one for desire when i eventually buy it.

Good luck

I ordered one of those. But since its from HK it will probbably take a couple of weeks to arrive.
Just so you guys know - I ordered the case via the amazon link for the hybrid protective armor and didn't receive the same as the original poster. Mine is a hard 2 piece shell, rubberized on the outside but plastic in the inside - I haven't actually received my desire yet (stupid vodafone) but I'm not sure how good it would be. The back clips on to the front fascia. Seems pretty sturdy but not sure if the plastic would scratch the Desire at all? It's not a gel case anyway.
Anyway, just a warning - maybe they didn't have the one in stock for me.. or even for the original poster - my invoice said HTC google nexus one hybrid black. I can take photo's if anyones interested
I was afraid of this. Hope your case ends up being ok, but as was thinking when I originally ordered mine its not a great deal of money to risk

I have mine (which is the same as the pictures on the first page and cost £1.79 from Amazon). I think it looks pretty good to be honest, not sure about the feel, but the problem is I don't have my bloody Desire yet! T-mobile still haven't sent me one and I ordered it 16 days ago now. This wait is horrible!
I hate waiting for gadgets to arrive in the post, often end up paying over the odds just so I can pick things up from a shop..
Feel for you Tom, can reassure you that the case looks a whole lot better on the phone than off it. And as for the desire itself I'm just blown away. Came from a HTC touch hd, had almost made up my mind to go for a iclone when I saw techradars top 15 phones on the planet (iphone number 2 and desire number 1).
Now I've convinced my wife to upgrade to the legend ill be in tech heaven for the next year

i like the barely there by case-mate better.
Could you post pics of it after you get it? Its always so hard to tell what the color is going to look like from the ad photos - the case mate barely-there case's black color just looks too contrasting from the gunmetal. I'm hoping this will match a bit better.
will it still fit the google dock ????

I doubt it (i dont have one though) as the docks are designed to fit snuggly with the phone, so i suspect the only thing that will fit with the dock will be those shield type cases e.g. Zagg Invisishield.

Good timing isn't it with the mothers day sale on
The only down side is with this one they don't have any screen protectors like they do with the 3GS version
So i just need to decide on one of those
got mine today
looks pretty good gotta say and adds little bulk
i had a gelli case on it before that i liked, but it was difficult to take on and off to put in my car dock.
i'll post pics later for any interested ppl

Please do!
Also.. what kind of feel does it have? Is it a soft-touch finish
yea lets see pics!
x3 on the pix!
Mine arrived yesterday which i wasn't expecting
Overall I'm happy with it, I don't think I would have paid the full $19.99 for it as its a bit flimsy looking. I was expecting the case to be more like the iphone 3gs version which has a rubbery feel to it.
It's easy to pop in and out of the case.
The gap for the volume controls could be thinner.
I don't have any of the google docks but I would probably bet you'd have to take the phone out the case.
Some of the guys at work that have N1's have the Zagg Invisishield so if you are feeling anal the incipio will fit over that
I'll get some piccies today
pix
like bewa mentioned it's not the same rubbery feel to it like the iphone case, which what i was hoping but this is good to imo since often times those cases with the rubbery feel end up peeling at some point. this case is pretty thin, thin enough where if it were made of the same material it wouldn't feel any different than stock.
It's a good light weight unobtrusive case for everyday use, I figure I can slap on the gelli case for the occasional drunken night out.
sorry for the crappy pics
cheers dude
Updated the first post with a link to your post
I'm sure you can find something like this on ebay soon. In Hong Kong you get the same case for $2.00, quality is good too.
thx for the pics. I wish someone would maek this style of case without the obnoxiously huge logo on the back.
i've been waiting for the feather for a long time now cause i thought it was going to be like the iphone's feather, but it doesnt seem to be.
any chance of getting a picture of the inside? is the inside of the case rubbery like the iphone or shiny?
i also dont like how it doesnt cover the corners fully. if you drop it, it'll probably take a toll on your corners.. maybe i should try the barely there
anyway,
thanks a lot for the pictures, definitely helping out my decision

its the same on the inside as it is on the outside i'm afraid :S
I was hoping even that would have some sort of grip on it but no it doesn't!
I just can't understand why they've gone for this approach on the feather for the N1 rather than the same as on the iphone versions! personally that would have been better in my view!
I held out on a case for this one based on the experience i had with the 3gs and i think after a week of usage (or less) i'm pretty dissapointed
I'll keep the case on and search for something similar to the 3GS version and look for a screen protector that doesn't reduce touch screen responsiveness...
case looks alright but I feel it's lacking a decent amount of coverage. Think I'll stick with my Seidio Innocase II

What screen protector i will choose?

Im going to buy a Desire but i can choose the screen protector reading varius comments in this forum.
Martin Fields?
Invisible Armor?
Vikuiti?
Brando?
Other?

Invisible shield by ZAGG works really great.

The post regarding invisible armor are no good
Just got my Viktui protector this morning. Having used a Zagg shield for my Touch HD (over 18 months I ahd to use two) I can tell you that I am astounbded by how easy the Viktui one was to apply. Really, really straight forward with no bubble or anything. It also fits so snugly onto the screen that I can't tell it's there - a perfect fit. I cant's peak for its protectability yet but so far I'm very impressed.
i have both Zagg and Vikuiti though i have yet to put on the Vikuiti one coz it seems the Zagg one is looking OK at the moment. I'm tempted to remove my Zagg front screen but i'll give it another couple weeks to see how it feels etc, otherwise i'll be installing the Vikuiti front screen.
I try many protection for my old Nokia N900, and for me the best is brando ultraclear.
Best quality/price.
I've used a vikuiti screen protector and whilst it was ok as an interim screen protector, I found that it attracted finger prints quite a bit & after a while it felt powdery to touch. Just my own opinion.
I've now fitted (took a few goes) an exim spuc which feels a lot smoother, less prints & responsive. I'm happy now
I had a brando ultraclear on my Touch Dual before and worked nice.
I prefer a screen protector that leave the color, the resolution and the responsivness unaltered.
I'm so confuse
My advice is not to bother with a screen protector at all.
Having owned a G1, Hero, and now a Desire, I've never had a screen protector on any of them, and never suffered a single scratch.
IMHO, as long as you're reasonably careful, you can rely on the scratch resistant nature of the screen.
Regards,
Dave

This is true - sort of. I had my Dream for nearly 18mths unprotected, and only have one 5mm scratch on the entire screen, However this is a result of me dropping it. I was careful about not keeping it in a pocket with anything else in it that whole time.
On balance this was a hassle, and although I still do it with my (screen-protector covered) Desire through habit, on the occasion I forget to I am glad it's protected. Imagine how gutted you'd be if you ended up with a 1" scratch right on the middle of the screen! Especially since it's a brand new (to most of us) phone. I think a few quid for piece of mind is a small price to pay, no matter how careful you think you can be. What if you show it someone else and THEY drop it?

Lol I was glancing over and thought... not 5mm deep?, lol.
Let me say, without exaggeration, I've tried nearly all screen protectors out there over time for various devices.
If you live in, or travel to, hot & humid places stay away from invisible shield protectors they start their own peeling process shortly after a trip into humidity.
My favorite, by far, are the Durasec - HighTec protectors.
They are a bit thick feeling at first, but you get used to them quickly and you need only one for the life of your device. They are manufactured to exact specs of the screen, per device. They do not scratch, unlike some thin plasticy like ones. They are "self healing" for lack of better description.

Stay away from forever fitters. I bought one and while they are ok for the price the grainy rainbow effect is driving me nuts so i am already looking for an alternative. I'm trying to find one that is clear so it does not effect the screen's quality. So far i'm waiting for a martin fields review and maybe a couple of pics...

Otterbox Defender Series Now Available for Desire

Greetings All,
I just wanted to let everyone know that the Otterbox Defender Series is now available for our HTC Desires. I am sure that I am not the only one who has been patiently awaiting it.
I have not used an Otterbox product before, however have read some reviews and they were all positive, so that was what justified the price on it. I love my Desire and it's worth the money for the added protection for the phone.
If anyone is planning on getting one, make sure you google search for a COUPON CODE first, I managed to save 10% on mine, and if you live in the US I believe you can get find a code for free shipping.
Also, if anyone has any experience with Otterbox, I'm sure the other Desire owners would be interested in hearing it.
I cannot post links, but if you go to Otterbox DOT com or do a google search you can easily find the site.
...I don't see any ''new'' case for the desire. The 2 models have always been the same.
Yes, but up until now the defender series case was listed as coming soon.

I am taking the availability claim with a pinch of salt.
I took the time to order the Commuter case for the Desire from the Otterbox website 3 weeks ago when it was showing as "in stock".
Only after 3 weeks and a couple of emails have I been told that it has not even been shipped yet as it is not yet available.
Somewhat annoyed.
Ouch. Nothing worse than waiting for stuff to arrive in the mail - and then to find out that it hadn't been sent at all.
Well there definately in stock, mines just arrived. get on it lads.
I'll be reviewing mine when i get a mo. I'll let you know the score.
Looks pretty bulky. Makes a sleek phone not so sleek.
depends on application really.
i work in the building industry so i need something HD i can't be dropping it out on a building site and it explodes into pieces.
I think if your looking for sleek head for the communte
If you are in the UK you can order both defender and commuter from play.com - still have to wait a few weeks though !!

As someone who regularly does reviews for OtterBox, I can say, with great pride, that the products they release are great (for those who haven't used them). Just be prepared, if you buy the Defender, your device WILL be larger than many may want it to be. Above form, although they do take it into consideration, functionality is it's primary goal and it does it well!
I got mine yesterday, it does add some bulk to the phone but I do like how rugged it looks. Shipping was quick for me, but I am in North America so that had a factor in shipping speed.
The phone feels well protected. It feels as if I dropped it, the phone would be okay. I have access to all my buttons and ports. The camera is not hindered at all and it has an opening for the external speaker. The light sensor and notification LED have openings as well.
The front part of the case has a screen protector attached. This is my only complaint with the product. I wish I could remove their screen protector and just use a generic one. The touch screen is still responsive but I like a generic one because it's easier to replace when it gets scratched.
Keep this all with a grain of salt, as I've only had the product for a day. This is more of a first look than an in depth review.
I hope this helps people who are considering this product for their Desire.

How much bigger is the desire with the defender ? I have one on order but worried it might be too big.

Got mine today (from Fort Collins, CO to my doorstep in 2 days. Not bad).
Has no one posted pics? I'll take some if no one else has.
For those wanting to use their own screen protectors, check out the Case-Mate Tough Case. Had it two weeks and I love it. It comes with a screen protector, and it's the best I've applied. You are free to use your own though.
Uses the same dual material construction of soft silicone rubber inner, and hard plastic outer shell. And when I got it from play.com it was in sale at £15. Would have Been happy had I paid full price though. Very well made case.
Adds minor bulk, you Just have to decide yourself what compromise you are prepared to make on form over function. Personally I like the look and feel it lends the phone. Plus it comes off easy enough when you are home. Sure the otterbox offering well be similar.

Some okay-ish pictures uploaded.
A couple of points:
The buttons and trackpad are accomodated by cutouts in the plastic film. Because the film doesn't stick to the phone (at least it doesn't to mine), it makes pressing the buttons a little more difficult than it otherwise could be. It also means that dust/dirt could get in.
The plastic film doesn't fit close to the screen toward the bottom as it does at the top. This means that touches aren't registered until you push the film down onto the screen as you press. The top is fine. A little annoying, but not the end of the world.
Does anyone else's Defender do the same?
Someone posted asking how much bigger it is. I'd say that it doubles the thickness, and not a lot to the height/width. Certainly very chunky.

My defender is the same, the screen protector is not a perfect fit. I think that the screen protector that comes attached to the faceplate could be easily removed, and I plan on trying to do so when my fresh batch of stock screen protectors comes in.. (bought some cheap anti-glare ones from ebay)
Other than that minor annoyance, I really am satisfied and impressed with the case. Sorry about not posting pics, but my only camera is my phone...
The defender case has even the screen and the button covered .The track button is obstructed for easy scrolling ?
The commuter case looks good in this case .
@sorch thanks for photos .
Ok, I have decided to cancel my defender order with play. Looks too big and to many issues with the screen protector. I'm considering the commuter case now - any one got it yet?

[Q] Omnia 7 Shell Case

I, like many others i`m sure, is looking for a good quality shell for a Omnia 7. Can`t find anything as yet.
If you do see a good shell, please post a link here.
Thank you!!
I bought this one from eBay which has arrived today:

It's ok, thought I would recommend getting the black one rather than the smoked one I have. The only issue I have is that the sleep, camera and volume buttons are a bit difficult to press with the case one. I think it may soften or loosen up with a bit of use so I'll keep it on for now and see how it goes.
DC
Yup they soften up
i was the same. But few days now and they are nice and easy to press.
I did give them a bit of a warming up by clicking them a fair few times, but does work to loosen the silicone up.
I got the black one as you can see by this post/pics

I'm struggling with screen protectors though. I ordered some cheapy ones from a German seller but, with the greatest of respect, they're utter dogsh1t. Far too thin, scratched by a piece of card I was using to push bubbles out.
I really want to find a nice anti-glare protector if I can, otherwise I'll be going the Martin Fields route.

Sounds like you got the same ones as me, That's my 4th film heh... I know why they put 6 in there now but for £4........ or a scratched phone ?
Ether way mine is more protected than my other parts of me have ever been
btw i found it's less pressure with the card, and more laying it down and just ever so slowly backing it up and using the card to make sure the bubble you saw don't re-lay where it was.
I'm no expert but 1st go was a joke.... so many bubbles i laughed hard...
2nd better but no dice,
3rd was brilliant apart from a few bits, and my mind just made me take it off and start again
4th was perfect give or take 1 - 3 bubbles i can live with until i try again
You want to hear how my mate managed with an ipad XD
I am having trouble finding screen protectors as well. I think I ordered the same thing as you guys (bedifol ultraclear) from protectionfilms24 but when I went to their site, it seems it's pretty much their lowest range and looking at the reviews for the various cuts they offer for other phones, I am just wondering if it's worth not having a screen protector at all.
Please let me know if you have managed to found one that is good.
Cheers.
Low range - high range.... It was ALL that was out when i got the phone/wanted protection
It does what it says.
It protects the screen XD
0.05mm thick - Same as the "one" for £8 which i bought as with the £3 one to test all of them, Recently bought the martin fields and imo... it tints it for me.... i like the clear/glazed protectors which look like the glass it should be.
So 6 for £4 is win win
I got a screen protector from here http://www.devdef.com/products/for-samsung-omnia-7 (actually I got two), but I found that they're pretty good and by far the easiest to install of any screen protector I've ever used. To apply it, you need to moisten it (instructions are on the site), and then you can slide it over the surface of the phone, before it dries, until you get the perfect positioning. Bubbles are also easy to remove because of this - you just have to do it before it sets. The only drawback, really, is that it's pretty reflective. I don't notice very much in use, but it reflects bright lights quite a lot, so if you're looking for anti-reflective coating, I'd give this a miss. Also on a plus - it's pretty strong as you can see from the video on the site. Also, as the instructions say, it improves the longer it's on your device. Initially it looks a bit poor, but stick with it (no pun intended )
Yos, I'll look at those....remember to wish someone Happy Birthday today!!!!

What's best to mix the water solution with to apply that screen protector? I tried a mix of fairy washing up liquid and water but without good results. :s

I got mine few weeks already from amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/GEL-CASE-SA...W8MW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1292094897&sr=8-3
Very nice indeed. And I am using savvy screen protector, little rubbery in touch but not bad at all
Yeah, I used fairy liquid and water, and you only need a tiny amount of fairy liquid - it's concentrated, you know ;-), and you also only need very little of the solution on the screen protector. Also, as I mentioned it looks pants to start off with, and it takes a while to dry, but eventually it looks fine. If you like a shiny screen protector.
I bought both of them on eBay. Very fine !

I am looking for a case which is similar to my incipio feather for iphone 4 and as far as I can see they don't exist and I detest gel cases with a passion so will continue to wait.
Very slippery phone to hold too!
Seen the perfect one but not in stock for weeks (judging by the galaxy s model).

I have ordered the last available (in stock) one on Amazon tonight. Will upload pics when it arrives.

As promised the pics of the CM barely there case.
edit: It also came with a free screen protector & a piece of cleaning cloth which I haven't used yet. Waiting for my current screen protector to be bit more scratched up (martin fields). Shouldn't take long.
That case looks really good just a pity I had to send my Omnia 7 away for repair!
What bothers me with these case is that I won't feel the cold metallic, sturdy cover finish in my hand anymore Is there any possibility to have a bumper instead?
