[Q] How to force Wierless Sync ? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have wierless sync on in zune settings, and it works but only when it think it shuld.
for example, in Zune (pc version) if i drag a song from my collection in to phone at the left coner it will say 1 item added, it will not be on the phone untill i either connect my phone vie USB or wait some random amount of time for it to sync...
its not ideal when u only need to synce 20 photos and 5 music tracks, that can be done over Wierless in < 10 min while im gettimg ready to go but i cant find the way to provoke sync .....

the random time is 10 min and it'll kick off a wireless sync

10 minutes may be too long. Is there a way to force the wireless sync?

on all the previous Zune portable devices it was under the wifi menu, Sync now, Sync channels, etc, hopefully that is added back in a future update.

ten minutes to sync is bs!!!!!!!!!!!!
ten minutes is absurd. i come home, download a song, and leave the house in less time. i live in a city, who is sitting around for ten minutes. nobody. how about 3 minutes. even 3 minutes is long. i dont know many people who leave wireless on for very long. are these programmers living in the real world? ten minutes lol. pathetic.
at minimum three minutes and a sync now option when u connect to your network(s) that provide your zune syncs. lets get real microsoft.

Sync two mobile devices without a PC

Anyone want to write this....?
I'm certain this isn't available yet, but surely it must be possible. I have an MDA Compact II and will be getting an XDA SP tomorrow as my "spare" phone. I know that I can plug one into the PC, sync, disconnect, plug the other in, sync, etc and keep both updated with my contacts and diary, but I'd really like one to be more of a "slave" device.
I'd love (and pay for!) an application that runs on both devices and, using bluetooth, syncs the PIM information on one to the other.....can't be too hard but my programming skills extend to:
10 PRINT "HELLO"
20 GOTO 10
Here's how I see it working:
Application runs in backround on PDA and on Smartphone. You set the sync schedule to every hour, two hours, four hours, once per day, etc. Then when it detects the "partner" device in range it checks to see if it's been sync'd within that timeframe (maybe if it notices it's not been sync'd for more than 24hrs, a reminder might alert me?).
Then a sync is put in place where one phone checks all changes to appointments, contacts, tasks and notes since the last update and send them to the other phone and vica versa. Any conflicts can be set to auto if you mainly use one device or to a manual confirmation.
It's certainly be useful to me - knowing that if I were away from a PC for a couple of days, I could have my spare phone sync'd with the PDA in case there was a problem.

Time is always WRONG and there is no DST in Brisbane..

Hi all, I got my Touch Pro few days ago, and one thing that bothers me alot is the time is WRONG!
I've set the timezone on my phone as GMT+10 Brisbane where there is no daylight saving apply. However, as soon as I connect the phone to my computer, it automaticlly +1 Hour, It is now displaying GMT+11 time, even if there is DST, it should be GMT+9 rather than GMT+11. Appointments that sync from PC to WM are all +1 hour too, IE if i keep using the wrong time, I'll still be right with appointments... WTF... eg. Current time is 10 and flight is 12, my phone actually displays as Current time is 11 and flight is 1pm! ROFL.
I've tried to install WMDST2008-1.CAB and update my outlook with Outlook Timezone Move.exe and still no sucess on the issue.
Can any one help?
Go into ActiveSync, Tools | Options.
Highlight your PC sync name, click Settings, then untick to sync date and time
search

Live Messenger 10.6.34.0800 wont stay logged in!

Using windows live for windows mobile 10.6.34.0800 on the Three network in Australia, on a tytn II. All was fine up to 24 hours ago where i log in on the mobile, it shows me logged in, but after 60 seconds i dissapear from all my friends computers as if offline!
My phone continues to tell me I "AM" signed in, even though im not. If i change my status from say busy to online, i then appear to eveyone for another 60 seconds before being logged out again.
While in this state I cant send messages, have tried uninstall of Live, and reinstall, Running MSM via WIFI, and turning my mobile internet off. and now i have even re-installed the rom on the phone, and it's still doing it! also check the time, and zones to no avail. Anyone else seen this issue.

[Q] Time Schedule for Outlook-Synch

Hi,
is there a way on WP7 to create an time schedule for synching with outlook just like under Windows mobile 6.5?
i really miss this feature...
thnx
Samsung OMNI7
WP7 doesn't have the ability to talk to Outlook directly. However, it can talk to Exchange servers, or anything else that uses the Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) protocol. If you've got any such account, including Gmail, it's possible to edit it in Outlook and the changes will sync to the phone. It can also pull your calendar from Windows Live, and there's a tool that will allow Outlook to access and modify that calendar too.
To answer the question the OP posted - No, there is not currently (as far as I know) any way to set up a schedule for Exchange syncing. It is 'push' enabled by default, which would normally use less battery than a schedule.
I miss this also - I used to set mine up for 'push' during waking hours, and not at all at night so I did not get woken up...now I just mute my phone lol
Well, you already can (and have been able to since release) schedule email sync to occur only so often (every 15 min, 30 min, or 60 min) as well as immediately (push) or never (except manually). It's available in Sync Settings for all email accounts...
Not sure why you think Push uses less battery than scheduling. Push email requires the phone maintain a data connection that it's always listening on. Also, the phone automatically silences email notifications (if you have them enabled) at night. The hours are settable in the registry, but the defaults are sane for most people. No need to mute the whole phone.

Correct, that is available, but this is not what the OP asked for. The OP was asking for the ability to TIME schedule, like you could with Windows Mobile of old. ie. Have a working hours period, and a non-working hours period that is user-definable. So he could end up with, for example:
10am-5pm - As items arrive
5pm - 10am - Never, or Every 4 hours
This you cannot do.

To be fair, it does depend what schedule you have set, and how many emails you get. Also battery life on varying phones in varying conditions differs hugely. That being said, the following is generally true:
'Push' email with an exchange server does not keep a fully active data conection open, that passes a lot of data. The way it works, is it has a 'heartbeat' that keeps in contact with the server, and it only initiates a full data download when there is an email to receive. The 'heartbeat' uses very little data and battery power. When you have you email set up to receive emails every hour, the phone has to initiate a full data connection and data download, every hour, just to determine if there are any emails or not - this uses more data/battery. Now, if on average over a period you receive emails less frequently than your schedule is set up, then 'push' will generally use less battery. Also, it is probably fair to say, that if there is a reason for it to be important that you absolutely must check your email every hour or less, you will probably want it set to 'push' so you get them straight away. Downloading ten emails as they arrive over the period of an hours, will use roughly the same amount of data as downloading them all at the same time at the end of the hour - the emails will be the same size irrespective of when they are downloaded, the only slight difference being that on 'push' there might be a small amount of 'logon' each time.
This is only true for Exchange push email, which I assume the OP was talking about, as he said 'Outlook' which is how it is labeled on the phone. Other email accounts, such as gmail, may work differently.
Also, the phone automatically silences email notifications (if you have them enabled) at night. The hours are settable in the registry, but the defaults are sane for most people. No need to mute the whole phone.

Well, you learn something new every day - I can't say I have noticed this, I am sure mine notifies all night..What hours is it silenced by default? I will have to test this to see if mine works!
Hmm, I would have expected that the scheduled sync (as opposed to push mode) was effectively a very slow heartbeat, and if there isn't any mail to grab it uses no more power than a normal heartbeat (but does it much less often, thus using even less power). I suppose somebody could mess up implementing that and do it in a less logical way, though.
Gmail, if you use the default connection type, uses Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) protocol - the same one used by real Exchange servers. This enables Push mode, as you may notice. IMAP supports push on the desktop, but it requires a constant connection and is too expensive on the phone, so you have to use a schedule. POP3 (do people really still use that?) doesn't support push at all.
I've heard the phone is supposed to have a "quiet hours" from something like 10 PM to 8 AM, though I don't remember the exact times. I can't find the reference to them in the registry that I though was there, though. In any case, it doesn't do anything for SMS, app push notifications, alarms, or incoming calls, of course. It's possible I'm isremembering, but I get email at all hours and I don't recall hearing it at night.
i have the same question, this is a important function.
Lads,
Thanks for all the answers.
Just to get this straight, i am connected to an Exchange and want Not to get waked up, when i receive an Email at 2 am. Under Windows mobile i could Set up an schedule, Let's say from 8 pm to 7 am there will be no synch with Exchange... And this is the Feature i Miss...

Zune won't auto download subscribed podcasts

I have been subscribed to Tech News Today via the Zune software on WP7 and every weeknight at approximately 645PM EST a new episode goes live. Whether my phone is plugged in or not or on WiFi or not it never seems to get the latest episode. I've marked the episode I downloaded already played but it still doesn't download. I find I have to unsubscribe from the podcast, delete all previous episodes, restart my phone and resubscribe.
Does anyone else have this problem or know of a way to correct it?
Edit: the newest episode does not show in the marketplace list either until I reboot.

I have this same problem on my LG Quantum. I came intended to post this same question, but you beat me to it.
It looks like either no one know, or no one want to help. I am so disappointed with the Zune app.
I too am having the exact issue. Did anyone find a solution? I bought a windowsphone to use strictly as a Zune and the podcast feature is the prime reason. I already cant get wireless sync to work, so I was counting on the auto download over wifi while connected to charger.
You might have been better off looking for a second-hand Zune HD if you didn't want the phone functionality, but anyhow...
What's wrong with the WiFi sync? If that is a viable option for you, I'd focus on making it work first. Alternatively, just plug your phone into the computer every night.
I'm not saying there aren't solutions out there, but necroposting a thread from 3.5 months ago that didn't offer any solutions isn't a good sign.

Necropost, LOL.
Went phone route for three reasons. Cheaper $50 vs. $100+. Reason 2 , Bluetooth for bt playing in vehicle home etc. Reason 3 , I wanted to get my feet wet with Windows phone.
Wireless sync is a no go. I get error COODO7OA which gets no hits. Zune sw is on my htpc So I don't want to go to crazy uninstalling updating etc. So I found the OTA podcast sync feature in Mango and thought great just plug it in everynight and wake up with all my podcasts ! Unfortunately its seems to be broken. Some podcasts sync fine others require an unsubscribe, delete and reboot. Then resubscribe.
SOLVED
For those minor few that are in the same boat and find your way to this post, I believe I have found the issue.
Apparently the Zune checks as soon ass you plug in your device or sometime close to that. I believe the criteria is over 50% battery, wifi and 10.Minutes on charge.
The problem is once it checks it doesn't check again, and there is no way to force it other than delete podcast and all episodes reboot device an resubscribe.
So the real fix would be to be able to force it to look on command or different intervals.
What I am doing now is waiting to plug it in until after I know all my podcasts hit the servers. and then plug in. That has solved my issues. In the past I would plug it in at night early it would check, but some of my podcasts (Adam Carolla) didnt go live until after the check. So now I hook up in the morning and it pulls everything in just fine.
I understand this may not be ideal for everyone because you need the phone charging overnight, but I use my windowsphone as a bluetooth podcast player and its ideal.
TL;DR
Don't plug in your device until you know your podcasts are on the server and available for download.
Make sure phone is plugged in (dont need to wait 10 min)...then go to the podcast on the phone and click the unsubscribe button and then cancel, and then settings and confirm, it will recheck for more podcasts immediately.
