[Q] Gmail issue help needed - wp7 - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I own an Omnia 7 and also own a iphone 4. I am loving my Omnia 7 but there is one thing really bugging me. I have email accounts sync and on my iphone 4 I notice on sync all sent items (sent outside of the phone) are downloaded.
I have sync'd my gmail account and inbox is fine, but when I go into the sent folder and sync nothing happens! Is this a wp7 bug or an issue with my phone? I assumed it would download all my sent emails from my account from the last two weeks but sent items inbox is empty.
Just signed up to xda but have read this forums for years but registered in the hope someone out there can help me!
many thanks in advance.

i can't speak for gmail, but with my hotmail account, after "show all folders" and viewing the sent items folder, then selecting sync this folder, i was able to get it to sync fine. all the way back to emails from may.
do you have a hotmail account you could check against? is it just gmail?

this is happening to my gmail as well. I am using an hd7.
most inboxes load but the "sent" and "outbox" folders do not sync.
One way I found around this was to sync the "all mail" folder. This will allow me to see both inbox and sent mail. however, it also shows mail in the trash
If anybody has any insight into this issue please advise. thanks

You do the same w/ gmail and it will sync the outbox folder.

Thanks for responses and glad to hear I am not the only one. Its doing it for hotmail and gmail. Just tried suggestion by @mrroey and no joy. Its a very strange issue. I assumed it would download all my sent emails from last two weeks but not working only showing sent emails that were sent from the device itself. Anyone else getting this?

I had this same problem with Windows Mobile. Gmail puts sent mail in the "sent mail" folder. The name of the folder in Outlook is "sent items". Since the names do not match the folders do not sync as you would expect. With WinMo I just added "sent mail" as a synced folder. "sent mail" does not appear in the folders list for WP7.
Workaround: Go to settings in the Gmail web client. Create a new filter in the filters tab. Enter your email address in the from box. Click next. Check "Apply the label". Choose "sent items" from the drop down list or create the label if it doesn't exist.
Optional: Check "Apply to the conversation below"
Click Finish
This works perfectly for me.

Google uses a whacked out version of ActiveSync. It's not the Official ActiveSync that Microsoft uses for Exchange/Windows Live, AFAIK.
So there are some issues with it that may pop up.

thanks! creating labels seemed to fix the problem. great workaround.

Works OK on my HD7 many thanks!

If you don't require push email then you can just set up gmail using IMAP. You should be able to sync any folders using that method.

"Sent box" of Push Email?

I was trying the mail2web OWA service but I found the email I sent from Pocket Outlook account would NOT be retained. I checked the Sent Box and nothing inside. But the email was sent out successfully though. Any advice please?
Just sync again, and your email must appear in your sent box.
from manage folders menu did you selected the send box to sync with other folders...
I have my 8125 sync'd up w/ my exchange server at work with direct push. The only mail I can "see" on my PDA is in the Inbox folder. Once I move it to another folder it dissapears on the phone.. but it does actually get moved where I tell it too... same with sending mail, it sends it fine.. but once its in the sent items folder I can't see it unless I'm using OWA or Outlook on an actual machine.
Probably set this way by default to save space?
... what sajib said should allow you to see mail in other folders...
Sorry about the somewhat-late reply.
My Sent folder doesn't sync, as well. When a message is sent from the device, it'll briefly appear in the Outbox then disappear completely.
It used to work correctly. I could send an email from my PC and within seconds have it appear on the device. Now it doesn't. I did restore from a backup since it was first setup, and that could be the problem.

No I did not, until I got the reply from 4smartphone support
Now it works flawlessly !!

Hotmail (Windows Live Mail) Sync question!

Further to my last thread (this is a separate issue so i thought i'd make a separate thread)....
How does Hotmail syncing work on Windows Mobile? i'm mostly asking about the sent items.
When i send an e-mail from my phone, it's saved into my sent items folder, which is then synced with the Hotmail 'server' so i can view that sent item regardless of where i log on....
But when i delete my sent items from Hotmail (via my PC etc) the sent items don't sync, and i'm left with loads of sent items on my phone (if i forget to delete them regularly).
Initially i thought it was because syncing wasn't enabled... but it must be if they're appearing on the hotmail server.... !?
if anyone can shed some light (maybe i'm just being dumb!) i'd appreciate it!
Thanks!
(I've just got a Kaiser, running WM6 and i notice that i've had to manually go into 'folder management' to enable syncing for sent items... so i'm wondering if it works differently on WM6!?)

gmail problem

i have set up up gmail as pop and imap on my tytn ii (wm6) using settings off google site. i can send emails and download received emails but nothing shows in 'sent items' on either account.
also, the imap account has set up sub folders for all my labels but only folder that has anything in in the inbox. anbody help
...
I believe it start out syncing the Gmail account with the phone "as of" the time in which you turned on IMAP. Don't bother with POP, sorry for the language, but it sucks. Give that a try, send some emails today and see if they store in the sent folder.
Cheers,
Paul
thanks paul, did some tests,
imap nothing appears in sent mail on pda but does go to sent folder online on my pc and also to pop3 account inbox on pda
pop3 does save email into sent folder when sent from pda but not when sent from online. i will keep pop3 account on pda and delete imap for now.

Gmail activesync sent mail not showing up.

I'm trying to get my phone to show sent mail with my Gmail account. I'm using activesync and direct push with my Gmail account. I have the "save a copy of sent items" box check marked but it doesn't do anything. I went into the "Manage Folders" tool and looked for my "Sent Mail" folder to checkmark to tell my phone to sync the sent mail folder. It was not showing up in my list of folders. There was a "sent items" folder and Iselected the "sent items" checkmark to sync it but that doesn't seem to do anything. I tried manually adding the "Sent Mail" folder and checkmarked it to sync, but after I did that I got nothing but errors from Activesync and I couldn't send or receive mail any more. The error code it was throwing up was 0x85010015. I had to uncheck my email from the activesync options to essentially delete all my email and then rechecked it to re-add my email to be able to resync. Still no Sent Mail folder.
I'm not sure what to do next. Any help tips or advice would be much appreciated.

email deletion problem s8+ and gmail

So I setup my s8+ and setup my Gmail on the native email client. I selected as items arrive because I like having up to date email. When I go to delete a message on the S8+ it deletes, but shows a "deleted" sign and next to it "undo". I have since changed the setting to not ask to confirm, it still does it though. Now when I delete an email on the phone, it comes right back after a few seconds, I tested this with my Gmail opened on the website and it doesn't show deleted, however if I simply read them on the phone or mark them as read, it does correlate with Gmail and marks them as read. Testing the reverse, if I delete a message on Gmail, it does delete it automatically on the phone. What could be the problem? I've tried changing the web settings to auto expunge set to "off" and when a message is marked as deleted from the last IMAP folder move to the trash (used to be archive)
Maybe a bit more condensed. Basically the stock email app (s8+) has deleted emails keep popping back up. I have gmail on there with the "auto, as items arrive" setting. Marking as read does sync however., any ideas? Thank you!
My Gmail app has been doing this for a long time while using a secondary e-mail account within Gmail (My hotmail account).
I've never had a problem deleting Gmail e-mails though.
Just to clarify, this is for your GMAIL account correct?
Yeah, I am using the native Samsung Email client on the Galaxy s8+. When setting up my @gmail.com account., everything comes in quickly, marking as read works fine, the issue is when I delete an email, it comes back as soon as I refresh.
I have the same problem. And I think the reason is that your mail provider has the IMAP roth path folder named "INBOX"
But the samsung mail app has it as "Inbox"
This is why it works with Gmail and not other providers.
It can handle the incoming to place in correct folder. But when you delete it sends a request to the IMAP server to delete mail xxx placed in folder Inbox (Not INBOX)
And because there are no folder called Inbox on the IMAP server, nothing is removed.
Older samsungs/Android had both the option to "erase on server" and set "IMAP Root path folder" but the latest version don't
I have several accounts setup in the gmail app. Only one does this, my exchange email account for work. And it's not new and it's not related to the phone. This has been happening for years on multiple android versions and multiple devices when using the gmail client.
With third-party customers everything is in order and even with native problems did not notice.
"Unfortunately the stock android email app has the IMAP root folder names hard-coded in the app. They cannot be changed by user. The app expects the folders to be named
at the IMAP server exactly like this
Inbox
Outbox
Drafts
Sent
Junk
If IMAP-server uses different names the synchronization will not work properly"
So as I mentioned before. If Imap folder is named Inbox and not INBOX there might be problem. And it cant be fixed in other way than changing to a mail app that allows for manually setting the IMAP root folder name to INBOX
Me, too.

On my S8 phone I have 3 accounts (Gmail and TELUS) plus my Exchange account for work - and that's the only one that has this problem (Junk Folders messages reappear). Thank you for your post. Don't HAVE to have my work account on my phone so will remove it and hope that resolves this pesky issue.
