My ones being shipped to New Zealand, why wouldn't they ship to aus as well?

Wow, the phone is big enough, but with that silly thing it's an actual brick ... FAIL

I like the look of the Otterbox case but am concerned about what to do when mounting the phone in the car.
I've just received my DHD and am looking for cases, car holders etc. I like the Brodit range of holders, but guess it won't work with this Otterbox case.
Any suggestions?

aha i keep mentioning this everywhere...i dont work for them...i havent even had mine come yet...i'm hoping for it to come tomorrow...the main advantage for me is not having to take it out of the case!
the thing which annoyed me most about my Touch HD and the car holder was it kept peeling off the InvisibleShield from the back of my phone

@insty - I got it to quote to Australia.....(change country suitably, for 'state' the last option is something like "non-USA/Other)
@silencer - what, you're 30kg and lack the muscle to handle the combined mass of 189GRAMS of the phone/case? I'd consider the extra 5x6x5mm dimensions worthwhile for decent exterior protection. Get over it.
Ended up with a quote of $44 inclusive of postage, 10% discount and exchange rate.
Too bad I have birthday/anniversary presents coming up; waiting on back-pay and will jump on this straight away .
Looking forward to a proper review on it, not that I'm expecting much different to the usual Otterbox reviews/praise.

Tried to order one through Otterbox's website, but they don't like my address, even with the Australia/Non-US state chosen.
So I'll wait for it to turn up on ebay.

yeah I also see the 4 lines, everyone knows how much hassle they are when you order off of their website. It will commonly say still processing even after it had been delivered. They seem to be having a lot of trouble at the moment with the whole process, good luck contacting them. Fill us in with what they reply with

Seems a bit pricey...
What's it made of? Kevlar? Neoprene embedded with microscopic diamonds?
I got a case from ebay:
Go to : cgi.ebay.co.uk/BLACK-HYDRO-GEL-CASE-COVER-HTC-DESIRE-HD-FILM-/160496080523?pt=UK_MobilePhones_MobilePhonesCasesPouches&hash=item255e4fd68b
(sorry can't post URLs as I'm a noob!)
Does the job and looks pretty good too, stops the phone from feeling too 'slippy' and doesn't bulk out the phone by too much.

Very nice looks neat...

How long does it usually take to ship? I ordered on 11/8, and as of right now it still says "processing" and "not shipped". Their shipping chart says it should only take 4 days. Well that's today, and I don't have it. I emailed them, but like you said also, no reply. I was already charged too. The very next day. They take the money, but then that's it. I'm not in a rush for it, but it would be nice to know when I will get it.

This OtterBox case is superb...
...so i´ve ordered one piece few seconds ago. I have some gel case from ebay, not bad, but its not a worthy competitor for this one. Many thanks for useful info about this case.

Can people post their opinions who have got them? Does it make the phone too bulky, does the phone still feel good in the hand etc
Bonus points for photos of it on... as long as it won't make the phone stupidly large I'm going to buy one

HTC Desire Invisible Shield

If anyone is interested yesterday I ordered a Zagg Invisible shield for my Desire. £14.63 free delivery from here:
http://www.morpethmobiles.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=/AZJ37/-EV-HTC-Desire-Invisible-Shield&cat=627
Does show a pic of Nexus One but was assured by guy on the phone it's for the Desire. Will post how I get on fitting it late tomorrow (if it arrives
I'd be quite interested to see how this works / how good it actually is when you get it.
I would also be very interested to see if it is indeed a Zapp for the Desire and how it fits. I always like to protect my devices from scratches.
Funny that the ZAGG website doesnt have it... thought they are the manufacturer?
Hey guys, i run Morpeth Mobiles and just wanted to let you know that i received my own Desire late this afternoon and have found that it is indeed different to the Nexus one protector. We do now have some Desire specific protectors on order to arrive next week but there will be a delay with any orders already placed. Just wanted to give you a heads up really. If anyone wants to cancel an order please either reply to your order e-mail or send me a message and i will reply directly.
My apologies and thanks for your understanding

I have asked ZAGG about this few days ago, and they gave me a link to fill in our device type to know whether there are enough demand for invisibleshield on HTC Desire.

No invisibleSHIELD for Desire....yet
Like boge said above ZAGG haven't made a screen protector for HTC Desire yet.

Reference number: LTK1660170979X
Subject: HTC Desire
Hello,
Thank you for contacting ZAGG, where we are Zealous About Great Gadgets! My name is Alex and I appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
Thank you for your inquiry on an invisibleSHIELD for your HTC Desire. At the moment we do not have an invisibleSHIELD design for that device, but we might be interested in creating one!
You can submit a request for a new invisibleSHIELD design at the following link:
http://www.zagg.com/hotgadgets/index.php
This request will be submitted to our Hot Gadget Team to research if the HTC Desire is a device we are looking for. You should receive a response from our Hot Gadget Team about your request within 24 hours.
Thank you for choosing ZAGG. We appreciate your business! All the best,

I would recommend clearprotector as they use same material with same lifetime
warranty but for less $$ ( I used both)
Their screen protector will be available within 2 weeks
We arent sending any protectors out until we have the actual desire ones in stock. Everyone who has purchased one already will receive an update e-mail on Monday and we will add a pre order notice to the site with expected delivery date. We have already received notification that the desire specific protector is in production and the turnaround from Zagg is usually very quick.
Thanks

Thanks for the tip. I got a 40% off code. Now trying to decide between ordering the full body or the maximum coverage option. They are the same price so surely going maximum coverage is more sensible? Are the front and back pieces the same in both kits?
Click on the different options and its shows you the outline of the shields. I went for the max, as i worrry about the sides of the phone which i didnt think full body covers fully....

Where did you all get the codes?
I'm thinking of buying one of these, what is it made of? I quite like the fact it's not slippery in my hands just now

oh, never saw that, whoops.
i guess a more accurate question would be how does it feel? grippy, smooth etc? does it make your phone shiny all over or it is matt in parts?

Official Samsung Galaxy S accessories obsolete!

I have just received an email from Mobilefun telling me I will not be getting the car mount I pre-ordered as it is now discontinued. I am not sure whether we should be worried or not that the official Samsung official mount for our few month old phones is now not going to be available. I have never seen a product discontinued before it was even sold.
Most peculiar. I've been checking around here too, no accessory to be found. Really need a car mount.
WTF!?!?!? That is kind of scary. I havent even had the chance to think about getting the "official" accessories as of yet and to hear something like this now???
Perhaps someone can confirm with Samsung and find out what the deal is on this?
I had the same with the carmount available on meritline... weird eh!
I've ordered the exact same of eBay though... kinda weird!
I won't argue with the mods but surely this is a news story not just an accessories one?
This is the one I ordered. Where on eBay did you find one?

I've got the brodit: http://www.mountonus.com/Samsung-Ga...t-With-Tilt-Swivel-Function-512167-26030.aspx
It's a real nice car kit.
The Brodit ones not bad but neither of them really appeals to me. I wanted one I could just clip the SGS into and it would be screen mounted and powered. No messing with wires or anything. I have tried to email Samsung about it but I am not holding onto any hope of a reply.
I bought one of the spider foot screen mount and it came with a car charger, leather pouch and a laynard. I was that impressed with it that I bought a second for my friend!
this is the one i have

althought, i have a herbet richter tower back part so all i needed was the bit that actually holds the phone, and it s a perfect fit.

I got the same one, do you ever have trouble getting the phone out of the holder? My clip seems to be very stubborn and always catches on the backplate of the phone, just wondering if you had the same problem
Thought I would share with you what the higher ups in Samsung have to say about this.
My (continuing) Question

Subject: Re: Car dock
- Hide quoted text -
Thank you again for your reply.
I think you are misunderstanding and that we are not making progress so I will try to explain again. Last year Samsung announced the Car and Media dock for the Samsung Galaxy S. Retailers began to advertise them for sale and to order them from yourselves. Two months later the retailers were told by Samsung that they were discontinued. This was before ANY had been delivered to the retailers and as I have said only two months after they had been announced. The retailers then contacted their customers, myself amongst them, and informed us of this. I have been trying ever since to get an answer from yourselves as to why this line had been discontinued in all countries apart from the USA market just two months after they were announced and before any had been sold except those sold in the USA. A greater part of the 10 million+ Galaxy S phones sold were not sold to the USA market yet that market is the only one that has these promised accessories available. If you cannot provide an answer would you now raise this enquiry to the next tier please.

The answer
Good afternoon Mr Pitman
The reason why the unit won’t be available in any of the Samsung subsidiaries is due to sales and marketing reasons. As a manufacture of many products, sometimes a product that is closed to being released can be stopped due to the market for that product changing and to this reason the product can become discontinued.
Unfortunately we are unable to provide you any other information regarding this product as we only handle the aftercare service of a product that has been fully released, nor can we advise who the best contact for your query is.
I can advise you to write a letter to the following address: Samsung Mobile, Samsung House, 1000 Hillswood Drive, Chertsey, Surrey KT16 0PS, I cannot guarantee that they will response quickly but you query will be looked into be that team.

Well, thats a gilbert answer... Gadgetization is androids weakest spot. And what gadgets and bling there is, well its fairly low quality.
This is iPhone's main advantage. One design and a forest of 3rd party manufacturers that have grown out of their garages and become professional suppliers.
There would be a huge upside for Samsung/HTC/Sony to mimic this by setting up their own production lines to mimic that market. I guess the problem is no one in house is willing to risk their neck and the people that sit on the money don't understand this part of the iPhone world.
I don't want to use both hands while attaching the device to a car mount - so 3rd party accessories are no-go.
I ordered an original T959 Vibrant car mount for my international i9000: http://www.daydeal.com/product.php?productid=48828&cat=5138
They ship nearly worldwide. It's 10 days ago and I am still waiting for its arrival.
You guys should do the DIY one from this thread, I did it and it is amazing, it looks so good, and holds the phone really nice.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837841&page=2
Dirt cheap too, for a custom mount the whole thing cost me maybe 10 bucks at the most, including the epoxy.

So did you get your mount yet? Does the Vibrant mount work (properly) with the i9000?
Hi,
the first order was lost, so they sent another one, which arrived in 5 days or something like that.
Yes, it works as designed.
Snap it in, push the USB to the phone (the small box at one end of the mount) with one finger, that's it.
The phone detects immediately that it is a car mount and if you have installed the car app it starts also without delay.

Same thing here with desk dock (original as far as I can say) bought in Poland on Ebay-ish website. Samsung's app downloaded from xda (it's here around somewhere) jumps in the moment I connect the phone. Have problems with line-out though, but I'm on custom ROM so maybe that's the problem.
Nevertheless it really looks like S is making monkeys out of us.

Emailed ProClip USA about a holder for the Infuse

Heard about their mounts here on this site and would very much like something to make my phone more usable in the car. Too bad they don't have a holder for us yet.
So I emailed their customer service and asked about it. Here's a snippet of their response:
Thank you for your interest in our ProClip Holders. Each of our holders are designed within millimeters of each device’s dimensions. At this time we do not have a Holder for the Samsung Infuse 4G. We do anticipate making one, however due to the large number of new products we are developing, we cannot give a specific date as to when this will be available. You will be notified by e-mail as soon as the Holder has been received at our warehouse and is ready for online ordering.

Got the same response when I emailed them last week.
Still very impressed/happy with adjustable ProClip holder I bought for iPhone 3G. I use it with the Body Glove Soft Gell and it holds Infuse perfectly. Used it the same with my Captivate and Body Glove and it survived a 75 mph sideswipe and slide on I-95. Made it to shoulder after getting missed by many other cars and phone was right where it was supposed to be
Haven't received an update from ProClip but just checked their site and it's listed. I've got one coming and will update again with a review next week if it comes in by the weekend

ProClip is the best. I have a whole drawer filled with their holders going back a number of years and variety of phones, the earliest being a Treo 650. They are absolutely great fit. Because they fit so well even a Zagg-like full Skin makes the fit too tight. That plus the fact you can't use it with a case makes it pretty useless (for me).
That being said I've recently ended up using only their adjustable holders. With the adjustable it will fit just about anything with and without a case.

Holly ****! ORDER SUBTOTAL USD $64.98 ESTIMATED SHIPPING USD $8.50
You can bet that I won't be ordering one.
They aren't for everyone. Supposedly this is the best unless you build your own. You might could find the piece that attaches to your car used and save a little...
Been using them since my Cingular/HTC 8125. Seven smartphones/two cars later they're still the best. Worth every, every penny. Got an adjustable one w/ 3G so it would accommodate Defender and still fits each of four phones/ cases later perfectly.

Cheap Car Holder

I use my N4 for navigation and to monitor my car's ODBII output. I needed a windshield mounted holder that was secure but easy to install/remove.
There are a bunch on ebay from China but I wanted one faster so I found a US supplier. Very simple design that could be used for most any bar type device; phone, iPod, GPS ...
For $4.65 I cannot complain: Universal phone holder
The seller shipped fast with a USPS tracking number.
Does it stick to the windshield firmly? I never actually bought one of these before so I'm a bit skeptical about how well it'll work since it's from a eBay seller.

It arrived in less than a week, I don't recall the exact time period, sorry.
I switched the mount to my 1994 Blazer and back again without issue. I mention this because old windshields tend to collect "stuff" on them and sometimes things don't stick well. I did not clean the windshield, it just stuck on.
Shipping time
I just checked, I purchased it April 3rd, it arrived April 8th.:cyclops:
Yeah, mine came pretty fast. Came in a couple of days.
And this thing is pretty awesome for a car holder. It does feel a bit cheap and you probably will have to be bit more careful with it, but basically, stick it and forget is the motto for this thing.
4.5/5 is my rating for this.
Sent from my Nexus 4
still happy
I've been using mine for about a month, multiple car changes, it still works as advertised. The only issue is if you goo over REALLY rough roads it tends to bounce around a bit. I just lower it so that the bottom touches the dash and the issue goes away.
I think I'll buy two more for my other cars so I don't have to keep swapping it out.
That's an Exogear knockoff.

[Q] Logic board piece type

I have a couple of old logic boards that need a some little bits replaced. I'm confident I can do it, but I'm running into a bit of a wall as far as one of the pieces. This place is far more virtual than physical, but even so, I'm hoping.
On the board, on the edges, the little white switches that correspond with the volume and power buttons. Those are what I need. Ebay seems to be telling me that there are different types or models or something of this switch. And the only phone that they claim compatibility with is the new S4. Honestly, it *looks* like a generic piece, but before I order some from China and wait two weeks to find out I have the wrong thing, I'm hoping to find out what the deal is with this darned switch!
I plan to call some repair places tomorrow, it's just too late right now, and what can I say, I love you guys.
Thanks much anybody!
If they look the same then they are the same, don't heat them up too much they melt. If the part you found is Samsung its most likely the same as other Samsung phones. Post a link to the part found and the SK or I'll just open mine if I find it. Might be the same as the S2.

The little white ones (power/volume) are what I need. Ebay has them, but a bunch have 3-4 letters that seem to somehow differentiate them, even though they all look exactly alike. (FNRG, TIM, NCYG)

Just look for s2, the s3 looks completely different, my local parts vendor doesn't have the buttons so I don't try to repair them. Good luck the two pins on the back are the contacts the middle one is just support

Noticed that difference. Found a lovely deal 4 day shipping in the US (hard as hell to find stuff NOT from China), $5 for a lot of 4. ^..^ I'm a happy camper.
And yeah, I tried salvaging from another board. It came out fine, but doesn't seem to want to attach, plus I need three of them, so may as well go new!

Yeah at my job we can get them cheap but with large order and other stuff from China I'll probably order some on the next order just that I got to even out the the cost and shipping to the cost of the repair

I figure a buck for a piece, especially assuming it fixes the issue, isn't such a bad deal. ^..^ I admire the people who do this regularly and make some $40+ with costs being all of $5 including parts and shipping. If this works out for me, I might start offering the repair service myself. XD

I try to charge only 35 or 45 for labor plus part price not bad but if it takes too much time to do it I got to make the money to pay myself and make profit, reply when you get it done I wonder how the solder holds

Will do! I'm replacing a micro usb port too. far easier than the buttons, as the buttons only have those little pinprick through holes. I can't imagine I'd charge more than 30/40 + shipping. It's about standard pricing. I don't know if you've soldered on logic boards before or not, but there's a great tutorial(ish) series on youtube by user iRepairFast. Quite thorough.
