I am looking for an Emergency Battery Charger for Desire HD.
Mainly i want something on the cheap and light to carry. Here is what i have found. Please help me, which one should i buy:

the first one seems rubbish, only 350mah? and the output current is half that of a usb port.. i don't think it will even charge your phone at all and probably only slow down the battery discharge.

i bought the first one (it was really cheap) and have it on my keyring with my keys, yes, of course it only slows down the battery dying, what did you expect? it is a tiny battery for EMERGENCY use, not a backup battery that can fully charge your phone multiple time for god's sake!
anyway, from 15% battery it charged it to 80% in about 35 minutes
Not a particularly cheap option but I use a Powermonkey Traveller. Although it was relatively expensive it can charge 'almost' anything with it's range of adaptors. It's seen me through many a smartphone, PSP, DSi, camera emergency!

what does that mean? if the battery charging through sunlight i'm not able to charge the phone? Or won't it be possible that the battery charges throught sunlight while the mobile is charging ?
work that thing only with sunlight oder may with roomlight too?

For six quid you can't really knock it, sure it's not the most powerful of devices but it serves a purpose. just ordered one myself

I am thinking I will make my own power pack with a couple of electric components, 2 x 3,7V 2500 mAh NiMH packs and a nice case. Will post photos of it when I am done, maybe in a couple of weeks. Just ordered the stuff from interwebz, cost me under 10$

It means that the external battery can be charged by USB or sunlight: I've tested that if it's charged by USB in daylight is more rapid to charge it.
If the external battery is attached to the phone, the phone charges itself and if the charger is under sunlight it charges itself.

So let me get this rite. U used the first on to charge from 15% to 80% in 35 mins... if this is correct then it is perfect!!
Just a question. Did it ran out of charge after 35mins, if not how much u were able to get out of this.

yes, i used the whole emergency charger to recharge the phone and charged both properly when i got home

massive 5000mah battery (charged my DHD twice and still had juice). only thing it its quite big and heavy. works well though and if you have 2 USB cables you can charge 2 devices at once. came in useful when my girlfriend forgot her charger when she stayed over. definitely not something to carry in your pocket, but for leaving in a bag it cant be beaten.

Hey man, did you complete your work or even start whole trade of yours
Not the cheapest but will charge almost "anything" and it has a 5000mAh battery, go to Amazon and search for Veho VCC-A007-PBP Pebble.
I use this 5000mAh battery pack. It works very well, I get about 4 full charges from it and is able to charge 2 devices at the same time.

I bought the 4th one - 1500mAh Extended Backup. It works well enough for me. I get more or less a full charge out of it.

Im going to download festival in a week and need some extra juice and I was wondering if anyone any experience of any of the AA/AAA/Solar power usb chargers? Are they any good? How long will they take to charge a phone battery (in my case 1500mah)? Will one set of AA/AAA batteries charge a phone fully and how quick?

I've got a small 12v sealed lead acid battery which I hook up my car charger to overnight. It's a little heavier than what your looking at, but is reliable and lasts ages. Battery and charger cost me about £30 total, but you could get a battery for about £15

Thats what I'm talking about. It's a small battery weighs just under a kilo, but you can attach a car charger to it in your tent. I go to glasto most years and its been serving well for about 5 years now.
Freeloder are good.
Could try switching your phone off, save some juice and enjoy the festival?
ive tried one here in the states on my g1..it sucked...it charged it but it had to be directly in the sunlight, when it wasnt in the direct sunlight it would send a surge through my phone...i was told by tmobile to not use it because it could void my warranty.
I have the IceTech i-9005, and its served me really well. I use my Kaiser a lot, and at school, I'll usually charge it up with my solar panel during my 45 minute free period. Here's a link if you're interested. It's not too expensive either, it cost me only $90 from REI. It has a large 2000 mAh battery too, so it should charge your device with no problem.
And unlike some other chargers, it has a voltage selecter, so you can choose the voltage which works with your device (but 5 volts charges most stuff fine). It also has a standard USB port on it, so any USB charging cable should work with it (it also comes with a proprietary cable and some common adapter tips). And it also has overcharge and short circuit protection, so it won't fry your battery. And although it's kind of gimmicky, it even has a bright LED light built in.
And in addition, like most solar panels with batteries, it also comes with a wall charger, so you can charge the device without leaving it in the sun, and then use the built in battery anywhere.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with it, and I would recommend that you at least take a look at it before you buy any other solar charger.

Ahh but then how would i be able to Facebook and make all my mates that aren't there jealous?
before i got my galaxy s i used to own the htc desire,
now when i charge the galaxy s with its own charger i never get more than 12 hours of standby and the battery just dies
with the htc desire charger i get more than one day of battery life, actually now after 1d 45min since being unpluged i still got 42% of battery life (with the exact same usage as my everyday usage)
now after checking the output voltage in both i found out that they both output 5volts , but the galaxy s is 0.7 amps, while the desire is 1amp
so do you think that i should keep using the htc desire's charger to charge the galaxy s, or this slight increase in amp can damage the phone.
by the way , i tried 2 different samsung chargers , and they both give me no more than 12 hours of standby time , so i know that i do not have a problem in the charger.
any help will be appreciated

I'm in the same situation as you and after charging with HTC charger I got a lot of extra battery life!!
I don't think that the increase in amps could damage the phone or battery

My Samsung Charger just stopped working and I only have my HTC HD2 charger to use so I haven't got a clue. Just shows how rubbish the Samsung one is though i barely used it as it is and its broken.
This is very peculiar to me.
The charger shouldn't be making a huge difference, but the way I see it, if the charger is output more current to the battery in a faster period of time, it might be charging the battery "more" or over charging, or the samsung undercharging.
The battery life of a phone SHOULD be determined by the mAh rating of the battery. and if both chargers are charging the phone until "100%" then they should not be draining at different rates.
The best way to test this is to get a sustained load and put it on the batteries and see if they match up to the rated mAh ratings. I wish i was still in school so i had access to this stuff so i could test it.
who cares if more amps cause damage, the only damage it will cause is to the battery.
the average battery should last the same as the phone - say 3 - 4 years ??
so if using the HTC charger ruins the battery is 2 - 3 years, who gives a **** lol, aslong as my battery life increases, im happy to buy a replacement charger in 2 - 3 years, BUT by then i would have moved on to another device anyway.
I say if it works, USE IT !!! to hell with the consequences, live life to the max !!

USB outputs 5v +- 10% & between 500-900mA so if you charge via USB this would have the same effect would it not?

Guys if your charger breaks the problem might be the chargers plug or mini usb (iv bought a cheap charger and it was charging but i could not use the phone literally i thought iv burned the screen)iv opened up mine and one of the wires(mine was the black one)was detached try opening with something sharp its really easy to do
just try it those cables detach really easy

Funnily enough, yesterday at work I used a Sony Ericsson charger, just top up my phone a bit. Went from 80 to 100 percent in virtually no time.

On Motorola and HTC phones (maybe others as well), chargers are a Micro USB cable with a USB adapter. I wish Samsung would do the same. Much more eco-friendly.

Couldn't find this posted before so wondered if anyone could recommend a USB Battery Charger to change the batt from my Desire without the phone. I have a spare and going on travels want to be able to just leave the battery charging on its own and not use the phone all the time.
Ive seen quite a few on ebay and some look really dodgy with adjustable charging pins etc whereas others are ridiculously cheap and i can only imagine will ruin my battery.
Key points are it should be small, light, USB powered and whilst I accept it will not charge as good/full as through the phone - not to knacker my batt completely.

I ordered the dual output version on Sunday, so hope to get it and try it out in a couple of days.
Using a Veho pebble here, works great
would be nice for a faster charge though, it seems a bit slow for 750ma

I've got one of those. It's really good, one of the outputs is 1A so charges up really quickly.
My only criticism is the on/off button is easily pressed by accident, but that's really looking for problems. Oh and it would have been nice if the usb socket to charge it was a microusb one so I could use the same lead as the phone.
It's a good battery pack.
It certainly sounds like it is going to be good.
With regards to charging the pack itself, does it come with a USB to mini USB charging lead?

Mine didnt come with any charger or leads but as I have a box full of that stuff it wasn't an issue.
Edit: I'm an idiot. It came with a lead with a selection of interchangable tips to fit most phones.
I forgot as this is now also living at the bottom of my tangled box of leads.

Yeah i actually had one of those external battery packs (5000mah) but found that you could not even get 2 full charges out of it and therefore not worth the extra weight/charge time.
Basically its misleading because the voltage of the battery is different to you phone battery and it need to be upscaled or something - there are quite alot of posts about it. Let us know if you manage to get 3 charges though - that would be good.

Hi.. Just want to share my experience. I recently bought a cheap emergency charger that uses 2 AA batteries.. I tried using it with a brand new duracell batteries. While charging, the batteries gets so hot that it would smell like its burning. It only charged about 15% on my DHD and stopped charging. The battery though still got many juices. I could still use it with other devices such as flash light. Please share yours.. Thank you..
I don't know about that one, but maybe you coud try one of the power packs. I have a 5000mah (gives 3 full charges), plug it into USB/wall to charge, then there is a different adaptor to charge the phone.

I have an old Philips SCE2110 which uses only one AA battery and does not even support microUSB (have to use an adaptor), but it also barely charges - even when connected, the battery voltage continues to drop, but somewhat slower...

I got the exactly same item, it charges 15% and stops for me too.
I tried a couple of times...then i threw this piece of s#!t at the garbage can...cost me 1.5$ after all...

Ha ha.. Never crossed my mind that it would charge that small amount. I thought it would charge about 50%. Well, it could still be useful when you're outdoor during emergency situations.
I bought a HTC Sensation from a guy and he didn't give me the genuine charger. The phone charged very slowly(6 from 1% to 100%). Since than I have tried many chargers(not genuine) and with nearly the same result. I than installed battery monitor widget. I see that while the phone is idle with the screen off it charges maximum 350mA. If i play 3D games in the meanwhile my battery goes down.
My question is how much mA does your battery charge when idle? How long does it take to fully charge? Is there any charger that I can buy from ebay or amazon that you have tried?

350mAh is very low for a maximum. How much mAh a charger uses to charge the battery depends on the battery level itself. If I'm down to say, 20%, my charger will charge at a rate of around 900-980 mAh. As the battery gets closer to full, say 90%, charging will taper off, and I might see about 200mAh.
Any charger rated at 5v - 1000mA (1A) will be what your after. I got an Australian certified charger off eBay for $10 and it does a great job.
My phone from say, 20%, on average will take around 1.5-2hrs to charge to 100%
Here's one very similar to what I bought. I had to buy one because my phone was purchased from Singapore, so obviously it didn't have the right adapter for Australia.

I bought that anker battery that everyone keeps talking about and I have to say it works great although my phone takes a little longer to charge now (I'd say between 2.5 - 3 hours for a full charge). I'm currently tackling a new issue though, since I installed stable CM9 (a week or so ago) the battery will last most of the day but not the whole day where as CM7 would make the battery last a whole 24 hours. So around 30% less time with new rom!
I used to work in a phone shop and found that most USB micro chargers will be ok (from HTC, samsung and blackberry phones) and at home I either use the official HTC charger or a blackberry one.
