RSS reader/ widget - Galaxy Tab Themes and Apps

I gave up trying to find one for my milestone. But now ive finally bought launcherpro plus and want a good widget to stretch.
Has a good reader/ widget been released? I like atoma a lot but it refuses to update for me.

The two best reader imo are news rob and newsroom. I use newsrob now because I like the greader sync. As a standalone i think newsroom is the best.

They dont show screens of the widgets.

Search feed juice in Android Market

I dont like feedjuice. Not mature enough yet. I use feedr now, but their widget design could be better (the arrows are ugly and color too dark).

You may like either the AnyRSS Widget or FeedR from the Android Market. I use FeedR myself.

Try BuzzBox... It has several widget sizes...

The best rss reader I've found is "Pulse News Reader" (free in the market, no ads!). I just found it yesterday, and it is the best rss reader I've tried on Android. It has 2 widget options with pics, and can show full articles in the app.
The interface is great, and it has google reader integration (if you want it). I wish I had found it a long time ago.

i dont see how it replaced newsrob for you... pulse is pretty, but functionality wise its a much weaker app, and the widgets are crap (a whole 3 stories per widget whoa)

I use buzzbox, the best I've found so far, nice widgets in various formats, huge selection of feeds, and the ability to add your owns.

Friendstream replacement for AOSP ROMs?

This is the only thing that I've been missing since moving from a Sense ROM/launcher.
Does a nice scrollable widget exist that's similar to the stock Friendstream one?
EDIT: I've tried out Socialite, but it seems to never sync properly and eventually force closes on the CyanogenMod nightly builds.
I miss it too.
Try Pure Messenger Widget.

OP if you try Pure Messenger let us know what you think. I use Socialite and it seems to work okay... but could be better of course.

EDIT: I was just too tired to realize what I was doing incorrectly. Trying to get a widget setup that looks decent.
All of the different variants of the Sense style widgets look really "off" for some reason. Looking further, it's definitely the pictures, as they trail a bit off the left side of the widget. (See pic)
I'm also not fond of the left/right arrows on the widget. I only set up FB, so I don't need non-working buttons.
Pure Messenger will make you forget Friend Stream every existed.

Use the scrollable version with ADW/LauncherPro. It is better than FriendStream.
Like so:
Nice setup TheBiles.
PureMessenger > friendstream with the ability to use skins, add email and sms along with twitter and FB to stream, ability to select preferred clients for clicked feed, and oodles of config settings in a nice scrollable UI with ADW or launcherPRO. Well worth a buck-fifty.
I wouldn't consider Pure messenger better than Friendstream myself.
It's nice... but sadly needs a few fixes in my opinion
1) Won't display 'mobile upload' picture notifications properly. It only shows 1 picture in the internal viewer with no way to go directly to the person's photo list.
2) Pictures display as filenames in the list view, rather than the actual thumbnail as sense does. (This might be considered user preference, but I'd prefer to see a picture rather than <randomwords>.jpg )
3) No support for built in HTC applications for Facebook nor Twitter (aka peep). While the internal viewer can be dismissed in favor of a real 'app', the selection is limited to bout 3-6 apps none of which are the built in parts of HTC's rom. (Of course if you're not using HTC roms then this isn't problem
Overall it's a great app, and the best out there I've seen, don't get me wrong.. but Friendstream still has the edge in actual functionality for basic use. Sure, No themes, lack of customization hurt, but when it comes down to using the product for what it's intended for (Keeping up with posts/photos from your friends) it has a few issues IMO.

Had a chance to play with Pure Messenger Widget a bit more today.
Overall it seems "ok" but lacking in some ways as well. You can't post directly from the widget, which is a huge strike against it. I want the widget so I don't have to clutter my homescreens with redundant apps.
Guess I accidentally went past my 24 hours so I am the proud owner, or some such thing.

I'm using the scrollable widget currently, and like I said, it's neat to watch updates, but it's a killer that I don't see an obvious way to post anything to FB/Twitter through the widget, instead I'm forced to use the app.
It just feels "clunky" for lack of a better term.
I will say that the widgets can be set up to look better, it just seems that some of the skins are definitely not ones any OCD person would want to use.

It's Launcher Pro. I'm using the Froyo wide dock (in settings) and just setting up normal apps and using the Launcher Pro icons for them.
I like how it looks with a nice black/white theme.

Erm. You just click that little star, and select "update status." You never have to open the official apps. You can also click that little arrow and select "open Facebook" so you don't ever need an icon on the screen in the first place.

Where did you get that toolbar at the bottom. It looks a lot like mine but with a few more icons. Is that a 4g between the wireless and sat?

That's Extended Controls. The second icon is the Froyo hotspot toggle, but it does have a 4G toggle option. I just don't have it on there because 4G doesn't work with CyanogenMod at the moment.

Well crap, it looks as though I'd always been fat-fingering the arrow and only saw the "open Facebook" link in there.
I recant my previous statements and accept that this is a damn fine alternative to Friendstream. (after a little getting used to)
The only issue that I have with Pure Messenger is this: When a FB contact posts something on someones' wall it doesn't show who the other person is, even if the other person is one of your contacts it doesn't show.
Got socialite running on newest cyanogen nightly. Its pretty nice really, I actually like it better than friend stream.

Galaxy Tab apps?

I'm not sure what everyone's stance on porting apps from one model to another, maybe there's an alternate solution.
I'm highly HIGHLY interested in the Calendar and email app from the Galaxy Tab. I plan to eventually buy it if they announce a larger screen, but those applications are well designed from what I can tell.
Does anybody know where I can find these apps for my Evo, or know any similar apps that they can point me to? There's a lot of calendar and email apps in the market and they aren't very useful IMO.
OH and one more thing. Any suggestions for a photo gallery app? I tried the 3D Gallery app and that's too slow, but I do like how it organizes my stuff... HTC's gallery is a mess for me. Any other Gallery apps that can better organize my images?
Thank you so much!
If you go to settings/account and sync/google and deselect sync picasa albums, 3d gallery works muuuuuuch better. Way faster!

agreed! Samsung did an awesome job. I would like to get the Tab, but I feel that 3 more inches is not worth purchasing, yet. Hopefully Samsung or HTC will give us a nice 10+" tablet.

[Q] Slidescreen alternative

I used slidescreen for a little while and I liked what it was going for, but in the end I didn't like the interface enough and gave up. Does anyone know of any similar launchers?

Why does my device matter? I have the HTC Hero, though. Slidescreen is an Android launcher. According to the market: "A complete home replacement focused on your information.
Shows summary information for SMS, GMail, Phone calls, Calendar, Google Reader, Stocks, Twitter and Facebook."
I really wanted slidescreen back but now it is dead ad there is no alternative ... is there anyone out there who can create a new launcher like slidescreen T_T it was THE BEST! ... any hope?
i found 1
i like the slidescreen too..
i searching everywhere..
n finally,,i found 1..
blackbearblanc.tumblr.com/post/3547408161

Scrollable News (Pulse when clicking title)
Plume Transparent mod (Plume when clicking title)
WidgetLocker when downloaded lockbar from xda + a big lion king wallpaper.
Own dock with blank buttons
Scrollable dock icons: Call/contacts - gmail/new gmail - HancentSMS/New SMS - Astro/NotificationBar down - Dropbox/Open statusbar.
Dock2 is links to Folder Organizer folders (both press + swipe) with different Gingerbread icons. - Player is Quickdesk with SoundHound transparent mod - PowerAmp and BeyondPod smoked mod.

I've been looking for a SlideScreen replacement, as the last beta version is a bit unstable. Unfortunatley I am yet to find one either.
I would like to push this topic up, since I'm would really love to find a alternative to this aplication...
If it would work properly in Jellybean I would use to replace the launcher...
it's called SlideLine.

Looks good, a tempting package now they're all bundled together and skinned out of the box. Do the widgets have the old slide-to-clear functionality of SlideScreen?

HTC News app/wdget on Sence 4/4a

Hi,
I noticed that HTC removed their HTC News app and widget from Sense 4/4a.
Is there a way to get it working on Sence 4/4a ROMs?
And if not, what is the best replacement to its widget?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks! But I couldn't find it in Market. Did you mean FlipSocial maybe?
BTW, I didn't mention it before, but I'm looking for app where I can add my custom RSS feeds, and able to add my gmail (Google Reader) account, the HTC News could do all that.
The Google Reader app/widget is actually a good option which I'm using currently, just looking for other option also

You can use minimal reader. it is good customizable news widget.

Miniread- new kind of news reading experience
Try out MiniRead news app. It shows the news updates in moving text style like TV news channels shows on the bottom screen(News ticker style).
It is very much customizable mini window and can be placed anywhere on the screen.
Just click on any news highlight and it'll open up in browser or youtube app depending on its web content or video.
Give it a try.
