I was wondering if anyone knew of a bluetooth adapter of sorts that would connect to your head units aux jack, that way you could hide the ... (unit?)
And listen to music wirelessly in your car and also be able to glove box your phone so not to use it while driving...
Ideas?

I second that recommendation. It plugs into your car outlet, and then has a cord that plugs directly into your aux so it gets great music quality. Essentially it adds bluetooth support to those of us whose stereos dont have bluetooth.
It also supports answering calls. However, If I remember correctly it forces you to use their built in mic (its built in to the main unit that plugs into the outlet thing.) Sooo the call quality on the callers end wont usually be great.

I really like the third link you provided due to being cheap. I am very annoyed with wires. My first fm transmitter got destroyed cause someone rolled the seat over the wire.

it lets you connect via bluetooth or direct connect to ipods, and then can connect to your headunit by stereo aux jack or by FM transmitter. the remote will work with android music player controls too, at least it did on my nexus. havent tried on the G2 yet.
also it has a mic for phone calls, and will play phone calls through car speakers, and it syncs with your phone address book instantly.
it comes with a color display. the only downside is that it comes with a TON of wiring. I have a cigarette port in my center console so i was able to put much of the wiring in there, and bury most of the cables under the console where the parking brake and gearbox is.
Will that alpine ex-10 connect to the 2006/2007 alpine units with their in house connector? (The blue or green one)

i believe theres only three methods of connection: stereo line-in, fm transmitter, and there's this KWE155B switch box which connects directly into the FM antenna on your headunit.

Unfortunately, those two things rarely go together.
The Kensington device I can surely recommend, and I think it's only $19 on buy.com. You really can't beat that price. I might buy another one for my girl's car, while I'm thinking about it.
I only have the one wire tucked behind the dash and plugged into the aux adaptor for the factory Ford stereo. The mic works surprising well for hands-free phone use, even with it way over to the right and kinda low where I have it.
That's a drag. I was hoping to utilize said connection.

Yeah, plus I can see it being useful for two different situations.
1) Clip it onto your shirt and you can keep your phone in your pocket while listening to your music and controlling your music without ever taking your phone out of your pocket. Good for jogging etc.
2) Car usage. It has a 3.5mm jack. So im thinkin' we can plug the aux into it and then connect our phones via blue tooth. Its not as much of a hassle as you think if you just clip the device somewhere in your car and leave it there.
But then, I still am iffy on how easily id be able to skip tracks. I mean, I guess I could clip it somewhere easy access in my car so I can skip tracks via the device, but I dunno. I kinda liked the Liquid Auxs steering wheel controls *shrugs*

I could be wrong, but this looks like a device to stream bluetooth FROM a device that lacks bluetooth output (like an older ipod or discman, etc.).

I like the one that attaches to the steering wheel to cause it makes the most logical sense for the car but wires! I can hide them so really not a problem and I can charge the device as well.
I cant't really think of an easy access place to CLIP the iPod shuffle looking unit to even though that's the one that's more convienent.
Now if we can use one or the other with a car dock, this will be a perfect addition and make things very simple!

I'll either put it in my girl's car (she has my old N1), or sell it for profit! Everyone that gets in my car always asks about it. The steering wheel control is what really makes it work for me. The skip track and play/pause buttons not only work with the stock music app, but other apps like Pandora.

Works great for me! It actually activates the Voice Dialer app by default.
Make sure the bluetooth is paired for Phone AND Media both. You should have two amber lights on the adapter (the part plugged into the lighter) when both are paired properly. They will turn blue when in use. Also, if the remote isn't working at all, I think you can push in the center of the remote for a few seconds to re-pair it with the adapter. I can't remember exactly, but it's in the paperwork that came with the unit.

Already checked the pairing (on both mine and wife's setup) and it was correctly paired.
Also, manually initiating the call and switching to bluetooth via the dialer also worked already.
After reading your post though, manually opened the voice dialer (for the first time) and since then it has worked. Maybe voice dialer has to be run once in order for it to associate itself with the bluetooth call button function?

Novelty wears off fast though.
Tell you the truth, when I recieved mine I couldnt help feeling a little... ripped off.
Anyhow, ive noticed a bug with the Diamond when docked in a cradle or otherwise.
If someone calls you and the phones in the cradle, if you pull it out and hit the answer soft key it always rejects the call.
Will check tonight to see if that happens and true, it is an expensive piece of kit but still looks nice
got mine the other day, felt robbed, they didnt even have the decency to another mini usb to usb lead, i know one comes in the box but i use that for the charger.

What I don't like about it is you have to use both hands to release the phone. You can't just lift it out of the cradle with one hand. Otherwise it looks good and sits nicely next to all my other phone docks/cradles
I've got a Nokia 5310 in a JBL speaker dock which also has a line in. I've connected the HTC cradle audio output in to the JBL dock and play stream internet radio using Resco Radio. It's good enough for a bit of quiet background music.

I have exactly the same problem (although I haven't tried bluetooth headsets). I think that the simple answer is that whatever hardware in the diamond converts the sound for headphones/lineout via the USB is just of poor quality. It doesn't have anything to do with the stand itself. I have tried running the lineout through my computer's soundcard, which sounded bad.
I have also tried listening through my Shure e3 headphones via a converter attached to the usb connector.
Both were unimpressive, but I doubt that there is anything that can be done.
i got this one for free when i bought my phone ! Unfortunatelly they were out of stock and I am still waiting to receive it

The thing about the YC A200 is that the short cable that goes from the phone to the expansion box is really wide and not very flexible. I figure there must be a good amount of shielding in there to prevent the power feed from interfering with the audio.
I sometimes also plug it into the line-in in my car and seems fine.
I notice that the YC A300 is coming out shortly - but I don't know what is better about it? The specs look the same?

Was that from devicewire by any chance? Mine was the same - and my free dock arrived today... almost 3 months after I purchased the Diamond!!
Nice looking piece of kit... but excessively large if you ask me. My previous iPhone dock was about 1/5th of this size and did the same job! Just takes up extra space on my desk!

Yesterday I flashed my ROM for the first time from stock 1.37WWE to a recent cooked one. The audio problems were fixed. The diamond now sounds as it should, and I thoroughly recommend you to do the same.

This is gonna be like the home dock for the droid. A glorified usb cable.

The point to a dock is once you put it in you are done. Think of a laptop dock. Sure your laptop has an ethernet port, power port, and usb but it's alot easier to just put it in the dock and go.
But, unless the dock does video I probably won't be getting it. The car dock I'll probably get though.

+1 man... I want to be able to plug it into my stereo to stream Pandora, etc., or to put it on my nightstand and use my phone as my alarm clock/weather center/news station.
I thought about waiting for the dock but decided to buy a generic mount(kensington). Partly because I already have a bluetooth speaker to put in my car that can also go over fm. Also judging by the picture I won't get horizontal video recording, only vertical. Seeing that I like to record my car trips, this doesn't help me any.
Being that google would have to make this dock for everyones car I think the device will hook up to the phone and transmit itself to the car via bluetooth or FM, (not everyone's car has bluetooth or a usb connection) and just power off the cars lighter, everything will go over the cars speaker system unless the dock has a speaker in it(doubt it). And I wouldn't put my trust into the phones speaker while its facing the windshield. Also I don't like talking to someone if the dock will be transmitting over FM, that means anyone else listening on the station you are using will be listening in on you. That of course is assuming the dock doesn't have a speaker itself.
edit. Just realized this is for the Desktop Dock, not the car dock. D'oh

$45! Im in the UK and was going to buy it, but they want another $30 for delivery, might just wait for the car dock so I can order both and save on postage!

It does stream music via bluetooth. When you first use the dock, it automatically pairs with your phone. If you have the phone hooked up to your stereo, it streams music via bluetooth to the dock, and into the stereo.

I, for one, am very pissed the way the bluetooth is setup in the dock. When people first caught wind of the fcc filings for the dock and realized the dock had bluetooth, people were confused. It was thought that the dock would connect to a bluetooth stereo of sort, that way you can just slip it in and it would all work.
I have a little bluetooth stereo and this situation would be ideal, but that's not the case...
I'm just having a tough time understanding how this is supposed to work? I have to manually connect to my bluetooth stereo every time I want to use it now, I don't really want my phone connected to my dock when it's not in it. The user guide doesn't really specify exactly how this is going to work. Can someone who gets this confirm it?

Why do you need to connect your dock to a stereo via bluetooth if you can do that right from your phone? And not everybody have wireless audio at home. So I think it's a good idea when the dock is connected to your home stereo (even via wires) and you streaming your music wirelessly to the speakers through the dock.
I am also interested can I pair this dock and my laptop, so that I can stream wireless music not only from the phone, but from laptop too?

Weird little dock. Was hoping for a landscape model. Dont like this.
My wife and I both have this phone. I have the gb rooted stock rom with voodoo lagfix. My wife has complete froyo stock straight out of the box.
The problem is when she connects her phone via auxiliary cable in her car the other person can't hear her but she can hear the other person during a call. So what I'm thinking is that it somehow disables the mic.
I don't have that problem on my phone but I'm not running complete stock. So anyone out there with 100 percent froyo stock have that same issue?? I know the fascinate initially had this but it was later fixed with an update.

Well does it work with other phones? The "aux cable" you're taking about is actually called a 3.5mm jack. For a car mic to work, this jack must have 4 poles (4 sections). Having 3 (or even 2) is just a stereo output, and will not have any mic. As to why the mic isn't working for hers as it is on yours, it's probably something that was left out in the Froyo build that is now being implemented on the GB version.

So glad someone else else is reporting this! I actually posted this issue in a bluetooth thread. I assuming you mean your wife is talking via bluetooth rather than speaker phone, right?
I've had this problem since the beginning, and the only HUGE negative about this phone! Anyway, I am now running Gummycharged 2.0 FE, and it has a mic gain that helps...however, I up the gain to listen to my podcasts, but have to remember to take it all the way down in order to call out. I still have problems when people call me though... juggling between taking down the gain, and physically unplugging the auxiliary cable!
Was wondering if Gingerbread would fix this... been waiting for Samsung to do the official release so the gurus can mod to a custom ROM...and hopefully this will get addressed.
Oh, since I'm on bluetooth and listening to music (not streaming via bluetooth since my car won't allow), I have my car charger plugged-in which I would think would be a common scenario, and wondered why no one else is talking about this? Was wondering it my Charge thought I was docked or something.

No, so the way we use it is we get the stereo cable that is hooked up to the stereo. We change the stereo option to "aux " in order to listen to our music from the phone through the car speakers. We plug the cable to the headphone jack. With my current gb setup I can be listening to music, accept a phone call and hear the person through my car speakers as well as they can hear me as I talk. With her stock phone she can listen to music and accept calls and hear the person on the call but the other person can't hear her. The phone somehow deactivates the mic.
I know the fascinate had this problem as well. I just want to make sure its a software problem and not her phone.

I am having this same problem when i have my phone plugged to a usb charger and using Bluetooth. Just about threw it out the window on the way home today. Thought it was just me. Also stock out of the box.
Resolved: No bluetooth when headphone plugged in
I had the same issue as OP no matter what ROM I used. I resolved it by making a cable.
It's basically a dock cable. When the micro usb is plugged in the phone goes into Car Dock mode (619K resistor across ID and GRD or pin 4 and 5). In the phone settings you set it to play sound through the dock when the phone is docked. When call comes in the phone is able to play the call through Bluetooth since no headphone jack is plugged in. You will find how to build the cable with some searching on Google.
Here is my proof of concept. :good: Total cost: About 10 bucks for the cables I modified and the micro usb breakout.

I hear so many people boasting about there intergration of there iPhone to there car stereo. So I thought ill ask here, what is the best car stereo for our HTC sensations?
I'm personally looking for something that will play the music on the phone with maybe bluetooth and hands free integrated with blue tooth. I'm wondering what else is possible ...? So what stereo do you suggest and price?

IMO nothing will sound better than an aux cable running from the phone to the head unit. I have a 3 feet cable that runs from the phone that's mounted in a dash car mount by Anker. I have bt running to my Blueant S4 for calls, so I'm ok with incoming calls. A little ghetto but works in my 2001 Mazda Tribute with 120,000 miles on the engine LOL

yes, the direct aux into the stereo sounds great. My 2008 taurus x has a factory aux input in the stereo and it sounds flawless. Best part is the cable was only about 5bucks at radio shack

All in All there are tons of solutions but be aware HI-FI over BT is mission impossible!!! So auxi cable in 3.5mm headphones jack rulezz. Also FM transmitters are all IMO of unacceptable low sound quality. If your head unit in car have AUX in use that... and + some additional bt device like PARROT for bt and calls.
BT cant go HI-FI and draining bat like mad. FM transmits only equivalent of, 128 Kb/s MP3, which is way low standard form my Harman Kardon car system in BMW.
I use AUX IN with 3.5 mm headphone plug.

I'm using FM transmitter which works well and they are cheap. You get to hear everything from your phone as it if was a radio station on the car stereo.

First i tried a Car-Stereo from Pioneer. When installed i realized it only support hands-free phone, but not audio-streaming over bluetooth. I sent it back to amazon and have now a Sony MEXBT3900U (around 115 €). Sadly, the Sound-Quality in radio-default settings of the Sony is hearable worse compared to the pioneer before. But since i played with the settings, and found a bluetooth-sound-volume "sweet-spot" for best dynamics (around 90 to 95 % bluetooth-volume), i began to love it. Start the car, choose a playlist on phone and put phone beside and switch songs by car-audio. If someone calls, music mutes, of course. You can hear navigation-commands from HTC locations (which i use a lot) over car-stereo.
Imagine, when you have a people-stuffed-car on a way to a party and someone from the back says something like: "...another song please, this one sucks.", you just reach the phone back and say: "...then choose one and press play."

I lol´d. There is no special battery drain. And.... The digital/analog converter of sensation is not bad, compared to other phones. But, seriously, using the analog 3.5 mm headphone from a phone is as far away from Hi-Fi like BT-Audio is.

I work over at audio express in phoenix and I personally think jvc is the way to go. I have a KDA-815 its a few years old but it works great. As for a new model they have the kda-735bt and it is only 159.99. Am/FM, CD, aux, USB, and Bluetooth ( both hands free and a2dp) for the price you cantbeat it IMO... plus jvc has a app in the android market

A big part of the question is "How long do plan on keeping the car?" and "How nice of a car is it?".
I would not put my $350 VZ401 in a Escort. I wouldn't put a $150 radio in a Cadillac. Another thing to consider is most speakers sound a whole lot better if given the proper power (esp the stock units that are not the cheapest one offered through the manufacturer.) Also be aware that most of these aftermarket head units that proclaim "50w x 4" on the faceplate are actually kicking out 15-18 watts RMS, and most start distorting after volume passes 1/2 to max, so the best you will get is 7-9w, which isnt crap.
So do yourself a favor and find a CEA compliant radio, which mean is actually has been tested to put out the power it claims to. The alternative is to use external amp...
I'm probalby using the wrong words to google it? But I want a Bluetooth adapter that is capable of both 'receive' and 'transmit' at the same time. Or full-duplex.
I'd prefer it be an APT-X, but anything small with good battery life will do.
Why? Well, for a DIY project where I'll be using something like what you see in the pic below, to listen to my phone and make calls.

Thanks, but that won't work because its microphone is integrated into the box rather than external like the boom mic you see in my pic.
That's true but from what I understand, if your headphones have a Mike, it will use that instead.

The HS3000 would be perfect if it did this. But I have googled for the last ten minutes and haven't found anything that suggests it lets you use an external mic. Do you remember where you saw this info?:good:

Technically, neither of the headphones are bluetooth. They are both corded.
What's bluetooth is what the headphones are plugging into. The tiny box.
So you can use any headphones in the world with this Bluetooth box. As long as they have a 3.5mm plug.
Impedance performance may vary of course.

If those don't have a built-in microphone, then I would probably go with something different. The Samsung HS3000 has microphone built into the box and is an excellent choice for high efficiency headphones. Otherwise, it may not put out as much power as other alternatives.

It's the same deal. You can use the Samsung with just about any wired headset on the planet that has 3.5mm jack.

Have you found a solution for this? I have been looking for some time for a similar DIY project. I have found one product from overseas and one in the US. The product overseas is about $270 with shipping and because it is overseas they won't accept returns. The one in the US has a PTT (Push to Talk) button that I would have to try and get around it.
I also found a device that allow you to either transmit or receive but that only gives you a simplex transmission from a headset. You can either talk to the person or listen to them, not both. I have a MultiPoint headset but that requires which device you want to be paired with.

I have a similar question.
I need a Bluetooth adapter (transceiver?) that supports simultaneous use of mono earphone and microphone. This is surprisingly difficult to find.
It doesn't matter if the earphone and microphone are on the same line. It would be cool if each had a separate 3.5 mm jack, but I think such a Bluetooth adapter does not exist.
As CZ Eddie indicated, there are units with the microphone built into the adapter itself, but I would like to keep the adapter discreet (e.g. not clipped to my shirt). Hence the need for a separate mic line.
The closest I've found is the Blue-Wi Nighthawk (bluewicomm.com/nighthawk-microphone-combo-system). The primary mic is on the unit itself, but an external mic can be added through the 3.5 jack as part of their "Connect & Go" system (bluewicomm.com/connect-go-accessories). What's not clear to me is if that jack can be used simultaneously for both earphone and mic.
PrymeBlu (pryme.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=2323) looks like a very similar system to Nighthawk.
I'm really surprised this is so hard to find. It looks like 99% of wearable Bluetooth adapters are designed for output only.

Yes, I know that his is an old thread, but I need exactly what the HTC BH S600 has. A way to use an external mic for a bluetooth headset. I want to use a directional mic of my choosing for my in car use of bluetooth headset.
I have looked for many hours now, and bought many devices, just to see if they have this function.
I have not seen anywhere that this device is sold anymore on the web.
If anyone finds another device with the same external mic function, please let us know.

So, I purchased the Pryme BTH-300, and lo and behold, it WORKS exactly this way. I was able to plug in an external headset with built-in microphone and it recognized and transmitted the audio for phone calls. Works with ModMic as well using a mic/headphone splitter to connect into a SINGLE 3.5mm port. Although I was ecstatic that this worked, the music that played through it was was very poor .
I'm in communication with the Nighthawk folks and will be giving their device a whirl. I also came across a Sony RM-X7BT that has an output and an input for an external microphone. Little concerned because one review stated that ever phone call he had, he had to unplug/plug the mic back in for it to recognize it. But, if you're looking simply for phone calls and mediocre/poor music playback performance is not critical for you, then the Pryme BTH-300 would fit the bill.

I've been looking for similar thing, this is old thread but this is pretty common part for all hands-free setups. One can't expect a good audio quality from that because the Bluetooth handsfree/headset profile is not super great.

Just registered because I’m having the same problem. I’m blown away this is so difficult to find. Clearly it’s possible to have duplex communication with a dongle since they all seem to have a mic built in. Why I can’t use my own mic is a mystery to me. I’m looking at the TinySine option but it’s sold out everywhere but dedicated websites and I’m kinda sketched out about giving them my money. I’ll keep looking. The HTC isn’t available as far as I can tell and the pryme is too rich for my blood.
