[Q] Format system/boot

I want to know if i format system and format boot my defy in clockwork mod, will it brick my phone?
Because I want to fresh recovery nandroid to undo the camera fix patch.
Sorry for my poor English
Yes, brick.
I dont know exactly how clockworkmod recovery works but If you have a /system/ with 100 files and you restore a nandroid wich only contains 50 files, you end up with a system with only 50 files, restoring nandroid is like restoring exactly as it was before the backup.
Anyway i think there's something nandroid doesnt backup and its /boot or kernel partition im not sure, (thats why ROM developers ask you to flash a full SBF and then their nandroid) or ask you to install fixed-sbf (20mb or so) after a nandroid.
I have 2.51 backup nandroid and fix sbf for it.
Can it work?
If your current system version is the same as the nandroid backup, you can simply restore the nandroid. There is no need to wipe or flash boot-fix sbf.
Your phone may not boot if you restore a nandroid backup of incompatible version, say you restore 2.1 on a 2.2 rom. But your phone is not bricked as you can flash and/or restore the correct nandroid and/or sbf to fix it.
If i format system and format boot then wipe and flash froyo sbf with rsd-lite,Can it possibly work?

If you are going to flash an sbf file, you just need to wipe. Trying to format system and boot would be useless, as the sbf will overwrite both.

1. IMHO, you should extract necessary settings or data and restore to your new rom. You can use AppExtractor
2. No need to delete everything before restoring
3. Your choice. There is touch version out there. Try and love it

Thanks for your reply i really appreciate it.
i was saying that if i wana go back to my stock rom (original rom) wich is not rooted can i restore it using CW?
if i flash back to my stock nandroid backup using CW my phone will not be rooted and it will restore the default samsung rom?
its just my theory though i haven't tried it yet i`m asking question like this for my future reference
Well...
Yes your device wont be rooted and will return to the stock rom.
Since the nandroid backup copies the whole partition. just like Norton Ghost does on the pc, so your phone will just go back to its exact status it was at that time.
You wont need to wipe user data/factory reset, because of the data partition being restored by CW.
Well you are asking for a recovery. How did you make a nan backup if you have no recovery?
Or you used the stock one? if you used the stock one, aren't you able to use it to restore?
Or do you want a new more powerful recovery?
As in the previous post they mentioned, use the one you like, with the most options

[Q] How to fix Acer B1-710 Bootloop

Well, me being me, screwed up rooting this thing by putting the wrong system.img.gz version into my B1-710. Is there a way to fix this bootlooping or not?

80% not ...
on the other side if you replace files from your stock system.img to the one which you just flashed, and than flash it again after replacing files..
You may be able to save your data and boot.
Else you can save your data by taking a CWM backup, and again flashing your ROM and from advance restore, Restore data only.

I see but, I didn't take a CWM backup or get my stock system.img. As well, I havent found the clockwork recovery for the B1-710. I do have a sd-card for it. But all I require is the firmware for it. Anything on that?

Need help extracting backup file.

I made a backup with the stock "android recovery 3e". Anyway to extract it? It's a ".backup" file and I can't open it whatever i try. It's not a nandroid backup, but with an "backup" extension. I've been searching for three days now and so far haven't found anything. There were some other threads with the same topic too but no solution was posted. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Can you use the same recovery to restore this nandroid file or is that not an option?
I am not finding anything on actually extracting it..

It's not a nandroid file. I can restore it but it's not much of a help cause I forgot my lock pattern with wifi and data off. Debugging was not enabled and it's a new phone didn't even root it yet. I thought i'll just backup everything, factory reset and then extract my data from the backup file.
Now back to the point, i know there doesn't seem to be any way to extract it. Never made a backup with the stock android recovery before. I just needed to recover some imp photographs. Xda was my last resort lol.

Is there any way at all to root it once you restore it? If it's a full system backup then it's a "nandroid" (which means a ROM backup whether stock or custom).
But yeah can't seem to find any way to extract it, only hope is to restore it and try to do something with the ROM.

Idk, aren't nandroid files .tar or .zip? I was thinking of doing that. But i had some doubts. Like will the custom recovery be able to restore this file? Because I'm pretty sure i've never seen a .backup file in cwm or twrp.

"nandroid" just means a ROM backup, doesn't matter which recovery or what the extension is.
I mean anything is worth a try at this point. I doubt any recovery will recognize it, but I am thinking use the recovery that made the file to restore it, THEN root that ROM if you can somehow. What phone do you have? Most older Samsung phones can be rooted in Odin regardless of the actual ROM state etc...
edit: moved to Android Q&A forum too...
