[Q] Desire - Splitters, Y-Cables, 3 in 1 Adapters - Desire Accessories

Hi,
I've been looking around for something that will allow me to connect 3 separate inputs/outputs into my Desire:
microphone
speakers
charger
There seem to be a few DIY methods involving camcorder leads/ 4 pole jacks I can't be arsed with, but then I found these:
1. http://www.amazon.co.uk/HTC-Splitter-XV6850-Diamond-XV6950/dp/B001W49OKK
2. http://www.amazon.com/HTC-Multifunction-Adapter-T-Mobile-Shadow/dp/B001QD3MQE
3. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001RTM6KA
4. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00195I3X6
1 and 2 look ideal but they don't mention compatibility with the desire
the otherz look as though they won't work with a microphone
has anyone already purchased any of these / do they work?
or can you recommend anything else that would work?
any help would be appreciated, thanks

I could be wrong but I'm fairly sure the Desire doesn't have any audio capability via the USB port.

Yes, that's true. Heard it from HTC Sweden. I think it sucks, when will we Android-users be able to buy cool audio docks?

#3 and #4 are mini usb, they wont even fit in your desire. #1 and #2 are too low quality to be sure.
i'm sure you could look for something to utilise your headphone jack so you have a separate microphone and headphone component plugged into a Y jack, and charging via usual means

You could butcher your hands free kit that came with the desire and use it for speaker/microphone.

Which HTC phones have normal mini-usb slots?

Hey guys
long story that i wont bore you with but I need to find out a HTC phone that has a normal 5 pin mini-usb slot, uses this for its headphones AND has a break-out cable (3.5mm slot halfway up it for normal headphones).
Can anyone help with this please?
NOTE: I dont want the 11pin ENHANCED mini-usbversion like on the touch-diamond. I want the version with two slanted sides, not one square and one slanted.
I don't think a 5 pin usb could carry audio as well. USB has wires for data+, data-, power+, and power-, and then the audio would need wires for left, right and earth, and another for a mike.
My old wizard had a 5 pin USB, and it had a separate 2.5mm headphone/headset socket.
yeah they can and do, its just the headphones that come with the Acer are S*&t but they do operate over mini-usb.
Thanks though, that probably means the Wizards not setup to pump audio over its mini-usb, i'll avoid that one then
My Uni has it
Thank you. I'll check them out on Ebay
the designers at htc should be clubbed on the head for their enhanced mini usb connector.
3.5mm audio + mini usb - that's what it always should have been.
I cant understand why would you want a standart mini usb if - "standart mini usb" works with "htc enchanted mini usb" --- I personaly have a standart mini usb for my Touch HD to use with PC and enchanted usb for charging it - it doesnt bother me that they are different they both do the same<- or am I missing something?
im just curious!
Lets put a couple of things straight...
1) standard mini-usb absolutely can NOT carry (non-digital) audio, no matter what some people in this thread think/claim. It simply CAN'T BE DONE.
If some device *DOES* have audio over mini-usb plug, then despite its shape, it is NOT USB. I *have* seen devices *misuse* the physical plugs it has.
2) The non-standard plug used by HTC is *fully compatible* with existing USB wires.
3) Because of (1) and (2), there is no use whatsoever for a standard USB plug to be on the device. It simply does not matter that there are extras in the plug.

Wow, jump down the throat there.... nice guy obviously.
I can think of a way it can be done ......

edit:
Would you like to also clarify how any of the 3 mini-usb cables (from various sources) work fine with the phone and PC and then can be swapped out for the Acer headset which is through the same mini-usb port? If it was a non-normal port then as you say, its unlikely the other generic cables would work.....

Agreed (sort of)... just a bit worried that you keep saying "standard" though, you do mean a standard MINI-usb right? But agreed, there is simply no justification for not having a 3.5mm jack .... its madness and a madness not just confined to HTC sadly

I think, if im reading you right, your looking at it the wrong way round
The phone I have has a STANDARD mini usb. I think your saying your phone has an ENHANCED mini usb port (guess that answers the above about them not fitting/fitting). And ENHANCED wont fit in MY STANDARD and the only HTC phones I could find had ENHANCED.
My thinking was that if I could find a HTC that had a 5pin mini-usb, I could try one of those remotes - im getting desperate!

It appears that you use a 3.5mm jack for your audio and not the Mini-usb
I could be wrong as its an old product and the only info I can find is on PDADB. Can any Universal owners confirm this? If it uses a 3.5mm jack for audio then its mini-usb cable is useless to me and I won't bother ordering one.

I´m sorry I got confused with the question
The 'enchanted' mini USB is total crap. Just check out the thread about people reporting problems because the looseness caused the little pins to be bent.
HTC should just put in a mini usb for data and power and a 3.5mm for audio.

Ordered this one as its a UK seller and will be much quicker.
However, im now temtped to start my own personal campaign against Acer and keep sending the phone back to them over and over again until they fix the Black Screen Of Death issue.... why do companies release phones with this common fault? Do they not use there own phones? I simply don't believe this can escape QA testing.

Line Out possible?

I have a HTC Sensation 4G and have come to be a bit of an audiophile as of late. I was wondering if their was any possible way of using the USB port to get a more pure audio signal going to a portable amp when I am on the move.
Yea, I know the Beats crap exists, I just don't care for that, I want to be more in control of things and bypassing the DAC built into the phone would be ideal.
The only way is through a HDMI adapter that plugs into the USB port.
That outputs audio via the HDMI.

This may be the wrong forum to ask, but is their any way of getting the digital signal from the HDMI for purposes of portably separating the audio and using it for my own means through some form of USB or 3.5mm plug?
AFAIK, only way is through the 3.5 headphone jack.
I am new to the forum - so I can't post links. Go to amazon and search for 73H00305-00M (you can also go to the shop on htc and you will see this as an available accessory for your sensation)
... while it does not give you a digital out, it appears to give a line level out. This would at least allow you to use a separate headphone amp.
It also looks like this is good for a number of HTC products ... not just the sensation.

[Q] is there any patch to use Iphone Earphone in Desire s Roms

I've bought an earphone compatible with iphone. I came to know that the configuration is iphone jack is different in iphone and normal phones.
http://miraculablog.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/3-5-mm-stereo-plus-mic-jack-caption.jpg
if you look at the image, I think configuration of TIP/RiNg1/Ring2/Sleeve is swapped in iphone earphones. If there is option or tweak/patch to swap the inputs from the jack then same earphone can be used in desire s.
I was thinking of some settings for earphone , iphone mode / htc mode. just a thought.
I know all the components are working fine in this earphone. when I insert 3/4th of the jack to the phone, mic works but one of the earphone stops working. next/previous buttons works fine, phone receive/end button also works, both speakers also works. so I guess if we can swap the input , I don't need to exchange my earphone.
Does anyone have idea if this modification is kernel level modificaiton or some settings in some files of rom can do this. if you know how can i fix ?
It's a hardware thing, a kernel patch will not help
Tapatalked from Desire S running Andromadus
(again another thought... ) though it's a hardware thing, isn't there any software solution to that. I think someone with programming in hardware or kernel level can write a script to switch the input/output within those rings/tip of jack of earphone
Edit:
I find this a useful feature, because there are so many headphones compatible to iphone/ipad and are very nice to use. and people who have iphone can use the same earphone to both their device. or for some stupid people like myself who bought iphone compatible headphone for android devices by mistake

Unfortunately switching hardware input/output is not possible in software - unless you are working with some very expensive devices, that kind of functionality simply doesn't exist.
You can search for a adapter. Checkout logitech. That have it I think

Alternatively, if you are handy with a soldering iron, you could wire up a new connector yourself!

thanks guys, I know about adapters and self soldering iron but I was interested in some software solution if it is easy or interesting to develop so that everyone can use that as a feature. Not every one will buy another adapter or do some soldering stuff. for now I'm using that earphone in my useless ipad.

USB Audio - working!

Hi everyone,
I know this has been confirmed elsewhere on the net, but I didn't see anything here so thought I would pass this on to the more hardcore audio fans here.
I tried all my USB DACs last night - RSA Intruder, Apex Glacier, HeadAmp Pico, Leckterton UHA-6S.MKII and all are working with the Xperia Z.

cool
I recently got the MW1 (only €19!!!) and learned about DACs (apparently there's a pretty good one inside, Wolfson). Now using this together with the MDR-1R and my Xperia Z! Really nice.
The DACs you are talking about are standalones? How would you use these and why? And why so many? Sry noob questions, but would really like to know.
Yeah, standalone DACs/amps. You would use these because they give you better sound quality than the phone itself does, and also the amplification makes them able to drive less sensitive headphones, which phones are unsuited for. Now that Sony, HTC, and Samsung all have USB audio in their phones it means I never have to care how good or bad my phones inbuilt sound quality is, I know I'll always have awesome sound quality regardless.
As for why so many, well, no particular reason apart from I wanted to know which I liked best and I'm taking my sweet time about deciding!

What do you mean by less sensitive headphones?
If I understand, newer model phones all have a DAC inside already?
In my case, because there's a Wolfson DAC in the MW1, would you recommend using MW1 or just using Xperia Z (in the case of audio quality) ?
PlugAndPlay
Is it a simple plugAndPlay or do you have to restart the phone with the DAC plugged in?
Would love to attach a Behringer X302 to my (future) Xperia Z
It's only 42Euro at Thomann.de
According to the Android App USBAudioRecorderPRO
i can record a signal with the Xperia Z (hopefully)
Think that output is also possible?

All phones have a DAC inside, a DAC is a digital to analog converter, and is required for the playback of digital music and sound.
The advantage of bypassing the phones internal DAC, which is what is being done with USB audio, is that if a phone has a poor DAC (or good DAC that is poorly implemented for that matter) you're not stuck with that.
Headphones and IEMs have varying sensitivity to a given input signal - some require more power to drive effectively (and when I say drive effectively I mean drive to both good listening volume levels and adequately control the driver of the headphone to get the best from it). That's a fairly simplistic and ham-fisted explanation right there to get the basic gist across, if you really want to understand 'sensitivity' you should take a look at somewhere like Head-Fi and so some reading about sensitivity and input impedance (for starters). As a general rule IEMs tend to be more sensitive than full-sized headphones.

I haven't tried input, I expect that will require USB Audio Recorder Pro. I can check that with my generic Logitech mic.
Connection via a hub should work fine, at least for output, have done that with my S3 and Note II and it's fine. Not sure about simultaneous input and output via a hub though.

You can use a Y-split cable according to some at Head-Fi, however I believe it will only charge the attached peripheral and not the phone.

Hi,
I'm very interested in this thread.
I bought that device for my xperia z, ESI Dr. dac nano.
But it doesn't work "power consumption error message", because this dac is usb powered :s.
I think the xperia z will only accept dac/AMP which work with their own battery, do you have a device to test this ?
i'm also very interested in the hrt microstreamer but it is also usb powered, so i won't buy it until i have a proof it can work with an xperia z.
I think your not new in "the word of usb dac/amp" could you give me an advice if i want to buy a battery powered usb dac/amp, as small as possible and with a sound as good as the microstreamer(only basing on review :s)?

You are right in that you need a self powerd amp/dac. I suggest the Sony PHA-1.
By any chance do you know if for Xperias equiped with 4.1 Jellybean connection to outside amp/dacs is plug n play or do you need special app?

Inside the JBL motomod

Has anyone taken this thing apart? I cannot really find a lot of information on it online.
I am curious to know if it has its own dac/amp to run the speakers and what the connectors are made of.
If it does have a dac/amp is there a way to wire a 3.5mm headphone jack to it...or make the usb c port use the dac and amp to push headphones.
Please do not get into a debate trying to sell me on bluetooth headphones I have no desire to use a bluetooth adapter with a record player, and don't even like wireless gaming headsets, I prefer my audio wired...part of why I love this mod, not too many wired speakers as convenient and as portable as this one.

Amp yes. DAC not sure never looked at the ic's close. I would Assume there is one to to do the digital to analog conversion.
Personally i would just make a mod. Order the parts have a case 3d printed. Making the mod is pretty simple. Few ways you can do it through a mod. If you do this you can set up something nice made for headphones. Adjust the gain from that so you can use higher impedance speakers.
Lenovo is going to announce more mods soon. I bet one of them will be a hi-fi mod. I would just wait for that.
I am hoping for something from ifa, but still want to keep my options open since I refuse to buy a walkman for close to a grand...although replacing speakers with a headphone jack seems a little easier to me than building a mod from scratch

If you do that then just use the USB c conversation. That moto mod is not going to be set up for the impedance of some headphones. So the amazing audio quality you think you will be getting will not be there.
Stock JBL speakers are I think 3 ohms. My high-end headphones are around 70-200. It just won't have the power needed to drive high end headphones to the upper levels
Can the connection pins for the mods duplicate a usb otg connection?
What Im thinking is making something of a case for the drangonfly red dac/amp should have room in there for a small battery pack as well...for the dac not the phone.

Gonna need a dev kit if you wanna go through the moto mod and not a USB OTG.
Moto mod will give you USB 3.1 host and slave 2.0 host.
MuC is basically the brain for a Moto mod.
The moto mod it's self is not hard to make. You can get a dev kit. Plug into the USB type c on it and call it a day. Or build something.
