Does the Droid 2 have an encrypted bootloader like the Milestone and the Droid X? - Droid 2 Android Development

Does this phone have an encrypted bootloader like the Milestone and the Droid X?

Yes, hopefully with the Droid2 and DroidX being the same way as the milestone, more people will try to open them up. The milestone had a lack of support thanks to the droid being open

yes the d2 has an encrypted bootloader & efuse same as the dx

Will the "one click" root for DroidX work on the Droid 2 as well?
Thanks

i would think not considering the Droid 2 is 2.2

Can confirm that universal androot and easyroot do not work for Droid 2, tried them today and they failed, won't brick you though. But yes those exploits were patched with Froyo.

thx for that

Thanks for that, you saved me 15 minutes. But let me try too.

don't use one click method instead try cmd and make changes as you go along

once they get custom roms on the X there will most likely be roms on the D2.

rootable does not equal free bootloader!
A encrypted bootloader = no custom roms!!
know your stuff people..

Encrypted bootloader = no custom kernels. Custom roms with stock kernels aren't out of the question.

dont you think we can flash a different bootloader on these things? i'd like to think that we can do it if we put our mind to it.
one of the reasons i love my droid1 (or Droid OG if you like) is that i can overclock it and keep it top of the line. i would hate to see this eliminated.
but i am confident we will find a way! there is a will so.....

So does the D2 having Froyo effect the recovery image? Could a fake OTA method be used similar to the HTC devices with the 2e recovery? I'm just thinking here please don't clown me.

that is a rom you want to flash. we are talking about the bootloader which would allow us to install custom kernels.

Possibly not....i have an incredible and i am looking into switching and i doubt our method will work fpr you guys....from what i understand, the bootloader can ONLY FLASH MOTOROLA SIGNED ZIPS. I guess there is noexception for that rule.....i would check out if the dx exploit is or is not patched in the d2........then it will be smooth sailing from there!

Milestone guys been looking for that solution for like a 1yr now? so im asuming someone gave up somewhere along the road...
So chances are like 1 in a million trillion chances, that the private keys gets public, so we can sign the bootloader ourself... its like having a smart card for Sky1 and extracts all the keys, which happened once as the employee went to the competitor, so i guess a Motorola employee has to go to HTC so we can get the keys lol
and hacking the key is like waiting for Milestone 53 coming out in 2025...

Wow I'm dumb...besides being 2 completely separate phones, the d2 is froyo. That's like asking if the Droid 1 or Droid incredible root method would work.
I hope it gets rooted soon. Im planning on getting it September or October , but It will be hard for me switching from a fully rooted and s-off Droid Incredible.

My DInc w/custom ROM is the better phone overall, but I'm keeping the D2 most likely, because I love the keyboard.

Moto's locked bootloader has been cracked!

im sure this has been posted on other moto forums, but i feel it should be posted here too:
http://www.androidcentral.com/has-m...mpaign=Feed:+androidcentral+(Android+Central)
we can finally start seeing true custom roms on our droids
I don't think the bootloader was cracked. The keys were leaked. Either way, very exciting.
i mearly copied the title of the article anyways, with the key leaks it may be possible to sign custom roms to bypass the locked bootloader, which is great because it means that it may be possible to install cyanogen on our phones
I read somewhere that the keys are to sign .sbf files, so we would have to run rsdlite to flash a recovery. Either way, its sweetness.

yup, its to make custom sbf's. which isnt too bad, maybe using these keys, someone could find a way to completely get rid of the bootloader, once that happens, then our phones will truly be free
Koush (the author of the ClockworkRecoveryMod) doesn't think the keys are real. You can read his Twitter feed @clockworkmod, but I can't link it yet.

he doesnt really have any proof though, if anything it sounds like hes in disbelief that this has happened, work is still underway and devs are testing out the method to bypassing the bootloader to see if this is legit, im following very closely on droidforums, thats where all of the information regarding this seems to be going.
This would be great news if it is true.
But I am as cautious as Koush regarding the fact there are KEYS and not a KEY (Singular)
What we really need is the Master Key as thats the only one who can generate more keys and multiple keys sounds like generated keys not a master.
Unless there are multiple masters, one for each device which I will entertain as a possibility to keep my hopes up! LOL
Turns out Koush was right all along.
Sometime I wish he wasn't so smart! LOL
So, does this mean that we can now get a signed cyanogen ROM to install on the Motorola Milestone without all the trickery that has been needed in the past? Is such a signed ROM already available?
I just got the official Motorola 2.2.1 update for my Canadian Milestone. Its OK, but I'm getting ready to 'jump ship', root the phone, and install a third party ROM. If properly signed ROM's are just around the corner, I'll wait. I just need to know where things are at present.
Thanks.
Frank.

CM7 on HTC ChaCha

Hi all, I am keen to get a port of CM7 to this phone after having just taken delivery of one. If anyone else has any interest in this and/or has previous experience in porting CM7, I'd be interested in hearing from you!
You will need root and custom recovery first...

I have interest, given that the bootloader is open. Another issue is money, so I guess you won't be seeing me around anytime soon around this parts, but I might buy the device eventually sometime later.
Edit: Try z4root, gingerbreak and superoneclick to root. If you are able to root it, there might be hope for y'all.

If you root the phone somehow, (anyone tried gingerbreak, superoneclick and z4root?) Cm would be possible. A fake recovery hijack could be made, allowing you to retain your real recovery, eliminating the need to have an s-off device. Root it and you'll see cm7.

There's no need to use the unlock bootloader thing from htc, Indirect (over in the dev section) has a root method for 2.3.4 (if you choose to update to 2.3.4 anyway) that doesnt involve using the unlock tools

Well if your taking it to Sprint. Upgrading it to 2.3.4 is probably one of the first things they'll do. Before they even trouble shoot it . if you end up keeping the device, and they upgrade it. you can use the method suggested above. The link is below.

When you start calling people names, you are the one that appears immature and childish, no matter how correct you may be.
The problem is, though, you are not correct. Maybe it only appears as a "simple" mistake to you, probably because you don't care or haven't spent enough time in the forums, but for people who frequent XDA then it has become a cumulative nuisance.
Also, when the majority of users responding in the thread you started is either questioning the logic of your statement or placement of the thread then maybe you need to reflect on what you were trying to accomplish and maybe take into consideration how you can achieve better results in the future. Long story short, try to learn from your mistakes.
Okay, so, International One x won't be compatible because of hardware differences, but what about the One S roms? I just tried flashing the CM9 port for the S, and it flashed successfully but upon reboot the screen was just filled with green graphical glitches. Rebooting back into recovery and attempting to restore my backup of the stock system didn't work at all, so RUU for me... but, why wouldn't a One S ROM work? It has 99% of the same hardware... besides the qHD screen. I remember being able to flash a Droid 3 ROM to my bootloader-locked Atrix 2 and it booting up just fine. What's different here?
