Motorola Light 2.1 ROM + JIT - Motorola Milestone Android Development

My homebrew Milestone ROM based on official Central European 2.1 v 2.36.0.
Added:
+ Root
+ BusyBox
+ JIT
+ MotoID (like Shazam)
+ Overclock (250/400/550/700 MHz, low power consumption !!)
+ Move Dalvik cache (about 180 MB for applications).
Removed apps:
- Google Maps
- Facebook
- QuickOffice
- MotoNav
- Voice Dial
- Motorola Central
- Motorola Dock
- Motorola Car
- Greek keyboard
- etc.
The link is there:
http://www.uloz.to/5441986/motolite.zip
This is Nandroid backup, so you can easily install them by OpenRecovery.
I recommend full backup with TitaniumBackup before update, then go to OpenRecovery, erase all data, flash this ROM and after restart restore data with Titanium back.
EDIT: Removed applications
If you miss any of deleted applications from original ROM, you may find them there:
http://www.uloz.to/5595002/deleted.zip
And the way how to get them back - via ADB:
Use Command prompt from PC:
>adb shell
At phone console type:
# mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock6 /system
Then Ctrl+D to detach from phone
And again from PC:
>adb push AnyAplication.apk /system/app
And thats all folks
EDIT2: Overclocking to 1000MHz
Download following file:
http://www.uloz.to/5631433/02-overclock.sh
Use Command prompt from PC:
>adb shell
At phone console type:
# mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock6 /system
Then Ctrl+D to detach from phone
And again from PC:
>adb push 02_overclock.sh /system/startup
>adb shell
At phone console type:
# chmod 755 /system/startup/02_overclock.sh
# reboot
EDIT3: New version MotoLight2a
- standard Launcher replaced with LauncherPro 0.7.7.3
- removed more apps from ROM to be even lighter
- removed Email as well, because there is much better K-9 Mail replacement
Download there:
http://www.uloz.to/5792592/motolight2a.zip
And thats all folks

Seems I am the first one to download , install and reply on this rom
I did not get what the title says. I did not notice any speed increase. Its same as the stock rom and eats same amount of memory. On my milestone it was always 90+mb free ram with many many useful software installed. But with this rom I got only 70-80mb ram even with no software installed at all.
Maybe the built-in Launcher pro eating too much memory. Dunno how to uninstall it as no option found to do uninstall.
Fancy widget never found any cities in search. At least nothing from India.
Useless rom . Truely not not so fast and surely not so light as told by tomas. When I selected LIVE WALLPAPAR the main screen started scrolling like tortoise. Very slow/sluggish.
This thread also lacks good description of the rom and also no proper instructions or screenshot.
Lite means it should be light, with no additional software. User may install whatever he/she want.
Disappointed and going back to stock rom

Hi,
thank you for your quote - you are true, maye the Launcher Pro was not as good idea as I thought. Please try this one instead - pure ROM without any additional software installed.I hope, that you will found this more useable and faster. No additional software added, stock Launcher. Please test it and let me know. I would appreciate your opinion.
Thanks,
Tomas

Anybody interested to test the lightweight ROM? Based on stock 2.1 2.36, with JIT and overclock. Just try and see, it is fast and light I removed all applications and reverted back to original Launcher. No problems with stability and speed. Test and let me know.

it is with qwertz keyboard (german version)? if it dos'nt, can i change it (qwerty->qwertz) anyway? thx for your work and help!_a

So far, so perfect! Tried your ROM because I seem to be getting through 3 batteries a day! Also had some stability issues with most other iterations and I think I've tried them all!
Battery remains to be tested properly on this, but ROM seems quick and, crucially, stable so far... Hope to report back after longer period of use.

Hi,
there is only QWERTY keyboard inside, but I think, I can take keyboard from DACH version and replace them in this ROM to get QWERTZ layout. Have to try

Thank you, I hope, that you will be satisfied also with battery life. I have about two days of normal use (without GPS which is very hungry).

Well, battery life is still not great (compared to any of the smartphones I've used over the last decade!), but it is WAY better than any other ROM I've tried so far (based upon 24hrs of usage). This is also the first ROM I've tried that is yet to crash anything, I've got loads of mem for apps and it's perfectly fast; I'm sure the first comment has put off a lot of other testers and posters, but it gets a recommendation from me - simple, fast, light and stable. Thanks.

Why don't you simply switch the keyboard layout yourself from OpenRecovery menu?
http://android.doshaska.net/kblayout

Could do with Google Maps back Is there any way I could install an APK or something?

I just realised that you can just install it from the Android market I feel so stupid.

Thats OK There was no reason to have Maps in ROM, because there was old version, so is better to install newest from Market.

That works excellent with hardware keyboard. And for software keyboard maybe HTC_IME app, should be able to switch QWERTY/QWERTZ: http://www.hallerud.se/htc_ime_jonasl_hires_27.zip
Didn't test it personally. I use your great LatinIME2 czech keyboard instead

I have a Motorola Milestone dock, when I dock with this Rom it won't boot into the dock mode. Have you removed it?

Yes, I removed this app. I have no dock and everytime I pull the phone out of my cover with magnetic clip, then either Car or Dock app was launched and it was really boring. But I can send you the Dock app to install them back, if you like.

You have to download maps from the market if you use it...
My Bluetooth Headset works fine so that is in order.
WiFi Works fine also
NOTE : I tried to flash SuperCSDIX10.zip as an update and it did not work. Do a full wipe then flash this new version.
I've installed Haykuro's Danger/Death SPL 1.33.2005 to test it with this Rom and so far everything is working smooth. I think it will work with the Hard SPL Also.
You can get this fast fast fast rom here :
SuperCSDIX10.zip DOWNLOAD
or if you don't like the Xperia theme you can get the older version:
REx3MixCSDI.zip DOWNLOAD
Metamorph Theme for REx3MixCSDI (Note: Don't just flash this on top of REx3Mix you need to use Metamorph -on the market- You will more than likely need Haykuro's SPL or Use Firerat's Custom MTD Partitons)
Download :Green Dev Droid Theme by gEkX
But don't just flash away with this one. Theres a few things you want to do before you get your 3D gaming on.
1. Backup everything on your SD card
2. If you already have swap and a ext partition then you should wipe and repair the ext partition. If not your going to want to partition out your SD card like so:
(remainder) fat32, (512mb-1gb) ext2/3/4, (at least 64mb) linux-swap. REMEMBER When you partition your SD card it will format it. So make sure to backup your SD's contents to your computer.
This is easily done using Amon's RA_recovery-v1.7.0
(If you don't want Apps2SD then you can skip the ext parts)
Now that your ready proceed to the install :
3. Boot into Recovery
4. Place SuperCSDIX10.zip or REx3MixCSDI.zip whichever you downloaded in the root of your SD
5. Wipe/Factory Reset
6. Wipe The Dalvik-cache
7. Wipe the ext partition
8. Repair the ext partition
9. Flash SuperCSDIX10.zip or REx3MixCSDI.zip (Whichever you prefer) then Reboot. Go though the Setup.
10. Get the new version of SupSetup on the Market
11. Setup Apps2SD with SupSetup then Reboot
12. Setup Linux-Swap with SupSetup the Reboot
(11 and 12 are both under Options in SupSetup 4. Also make sure you reboot in-between steps 11 and 12 this is IMPORTANT!)
13. If you get FC's when restoring backed up apps try running Fix permissions. In recovery go to console... then type utility... go to fix permissions and run it... then reboot.
14. Last but not least; One of the bigger issues with this ROM is the battery drain. With "Normal" usage I would have to charge my phone before half the day was over. This is what I did to fix this issue:
- Go into SupSetup
- Under CPU Options turn off "TurboMode" and "Modder CPU"
- Optional* Under Special Options I turned on AceleraciĆ³n 3d. This, I believe, helps frame rate smoothness in 3D games and helps overall rendering.
- Download either "SetCPU for Root Users" or "OverclockWidget (Need Root)" ). Personally I got OverclockWidget because it was free but SetCPU may give you more options and whatnot.
- Set your Max: 528mhz and set your min: 128mhz
After about 24hrs of Normal usage (Surf the net a couple hours. Check Twidroid, Email, and XDA Mobile...constantly . a little gaming. plus phone calls and text. The rest on standby) I have only used 3/4 of my battery.
If your having troubles with backups not showing the the market you could try this:
Zei said:
For the ppl with backup issues, try downloading "MyBackup Pro" or "Titainium Backup" Mind you these are paid apps but the features on here will save your lives. Both apps backup your apk files WITH the current data/market links on them and has the ability to use a 1-click restore so it wont take you 5 hours to restore ya apps.
I used it on this rom and have had no FC's at all

I tried it and, to be honest, I prefer Httclay's Superfast to CSDI. Faster and more responsive, IMO

Appreciate the info, Stupid/SuperFast is quite speedy right now, most likely due to the JIT....have to see on the long term performance over a few days. Prob will skip this build
For me, this CSDI is faster than any of the other CSDI's and definitely the fastest HTCClay ROM I've used.
Scrolling, opening apps, opening the app list, going from screen to screen, all super fast and smooth. Not a single issue so far after a couple nights of use.

You are right my friend the sound dosen't work on the alarm clock! I found a fix though. Download the old AlarmClock.apk here : DOWNLOAD
Then place that in the root of your SDcard. Next use better terminal and enter in this code:
Code:
$su
#mount /system -o remount,rw
#rm /system/app/DeskClock.apk
#cp /sdcard/AlarmClock.apk /system/app/AlarmClock.apk
Then reboot and everything should work fine.
on screen keyboard doesn't fix incorrect spelling. please fix
market
Also market is broken. It does show paid apps, but not all apps show up in market. I somehow corrupted my apk backup and now I can't find musicjunk or pandora in the market. If anyone knows how to fix it let me know and I'll come back to this rom asap. Hope this helps others also. Have a good night.
dude you gotta fix that POST and make the Download links CLEAR and not hidden in the "here" use DOWNLOAD or 4share
anyways there are all these "remix" ROMs floating around, its best to stick a straight up ROM, not one of themed mix and matches, either Clay's or CSDI, Clay is a SOLID DEV, with many versions of his FastTest series so he gets my vote, he keeps up his solid work with a a few ROMs a week
market
@ sianaka
market enabler did the trick for me
so cool====== everythings was change shooooooooooooooooooooooooock

What's the spl requirement and card layout for this rom.? A friend was trying to flash earlier but said no go for him. TIA.

Mix and match tweakz = crazy fast Evo + great battery life

Hello All,
I had been tweaking my Evo for a week and came to a good solution.
I was trying to achieve the best speed with the best battery life.
HTC appz works and camera working also.
What tweak was used:
Compcache + JIT (no crash or reboot) after a week of use.
Removed HTC lock screen and use AWD Launcher Pro (disable HTC Sense)
Use 4G Widget and Flashlight Widget.
Use Flash 10.1 for Android 2.1
Use a static wallpaper
Rom use:
Fresh .03 as base and included the compcache and A2SD. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=700448
Currently using Aloysius 3.0.2 rom as it is the same as Fresh .03 but with colors theme. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=702361
JIT From Rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=699814
Remove HTC lock:
I use option 2 because I needs the alarm clock. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=707466&highlight=lock+screen
Disable HTC Sense:
Use alternative launcher.
Using Widget:
4G Widget. **Warning** 4G will be be enable each time after a reboot when using this appz. Make sure to turn it off with the widget. Using 4G drains the battery quick. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695056
Flashlight Widget: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696014&highlight=flashlight
Launcher:
I use AWD Launcher Pro, but any other launcher can be use as the home screen.
Direction:
1) Make sure to nandroid your current ROM just incase you want to goes back to it.
2) Make a backup of your appz using Titanium Backup.
3) Make sure to wipe completely before flashing to Fresh .03 or Aloysius 3.0.2 ROM
4) Remove HTC lock screen and use a different type of launcher.
5) Use a static wallpaper.
6) Restore your appz with Titanium Backup
7) At this step, make a nandroid backup before installing JIT just incase soming went wrong during JIT installation.
8) Install JIT.
9) Configure the EVO to your liking and enjoy. (may reboot or force close during setup of some programs. after that, it was completely stable)
Result:
The first few usages of the Evo might result in reboot but after that it was great. I am currently using my Evo for a week now and it had not reboot or force close. The only things I notice is the increase in speed and battery life. All the appz launch quick and runs just as quick. The animation is very smooth. The HTC appz (such as dialer, texting, contacts) seems to works just as well. Overall, I am very satisfy with the result.
Credits:
It goes to all the Developers whom had created the incredible roms and programs that makes it possible for this tweakz.
Thanks minhgi
development ftw
EDIT: ooooh a guide has formed.. word
You should put this together and release it, I like the things you did and added.

What exactly does JIT do for the EVO?
It just something that will speed up android 2 - 5 time and is found in froyo.
I just tried installing jit on fresh .3 but I got a signature verification error. Has anyone else run into this?
make sure your Evo is completely rooted. Also you might wanna post in Fresh forum to get a complete answer.

You can use MoreLocale 2 from the market to set your country, but the this rom is not multi language for now
I think you mean "ad free".
I think it's terrible, developers spent a lot of time creating great apps, the least we can do is support them by showing the ads...
If people really have that little data allowance, they can easily install the application if they choose, but I think it is wrong to include it in the ROM.
Just my opinion

Congratulations on starting your own thread with this ROM. It saves me a lot of time searching for posts concerning your Bludy ROM
The ROM is running just fine for me, no sleep death or other problems at all. I flashed the mtd with 150 3 parameters and have 172 MB free in data/cache. No need to integrate it with the ROM ala Smoki. I just love the speed without the sense baggage.
If you are looking for things to do, I would like the transparent lockscreen back. It now uses /system/customize/resource/htc_wallpaper_01_lockscreen.jpg which I can overwrite with one more to my liking but not the transparent one I would prefer.

I don't know. DCSStock for sure since you deleted Stock.apk. It's easy enough for anyone to remove what they don't want. Anything available in the Market should be left out.
It works great so far!
Just out of curiosity, is it possible to get the widgets from LaucherPro for free or is it possible to get prettier widgets? The stock ones are really boring!
Also, could a transluent/transparent dropdown bar be possible?
A problem I found is that when typing in a password, it always jumps back up to where the user id was.
Please keep updating!

Link doesn't work
Which link? Both are working here.
Worked for me. I will use this tonight and tomorrow and see how it goes, I had to set up mms, but have to do that with cyanogen too.
Yes! I'm downloading now and will test this out for the next few days. I'll report back after some usage.
I want Rom support cdma in Thailand pless
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Nice ROM. Very fast and visually very nice... But there are some problems that I have found.
1) *228 PRL update will Force Close the Phone App. (this is a deal breaker for me)
2) The HTC keyboard enclosed will Force Close if you change input to that (I dont use it anyway, bought Smart Keyboard pro)
3) Some reports of Beautiful Widgets Weather not geolocating.. I had an issue with getting it to do this with the Accuweather setting for weather, but once I put it to Google for weather it worked and worked once I set it back to Accuweather.
4) When entering APNS settings for MMS Carrier settings, when you scroll down the settings you inputted if they scroll off the screen they are lost.. The only way to do this was to enter settings, save... go back in, scroll down... enter the other settings. Save... etc etc...
5) does not recognize the network its connected to, so the roaming signal will show on US Cellular for example, even though it is NOT roaming

1) Use *228+ -- that will work. Fix may be coming soon so the + doesn't have to be used.
2) Haven't looked, I don't use that KB. Might remove.
3) Interesting
4) What method are using to enter APNS?
5) Just like CM6, you can place a custom eri.xml in /data. This will fix the roaming indicator

1) Will try that when I put the ROM back on.. went back to Cyanogen for today at work..
2) Yes totally force closes, even on fresh install
4) Using voice dialer and saying Open APNS.. then edit the info.
5) Will try that..
The HTC IME mod keyboard does work. I installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled and it worked. So you might want to try it.
So far so good on the ROM. Everything seems to work fine, the battery life is pretty decent, and I'm happy with it. Only problem is that my Friends widget with Launcher Pro Plus doesn't seem to work. Both my twitter and facebook are linked, but the widget doesn't seem to retrieve statuses/tweets.
I just deleted the HTC_IME, it was too glitchy for me.. another thing that needs to be removed, the FM Radio.. does not work with CDMA Desire at all...
Reloaded this ROM and made the XML mod so it wont show as roaming anymore. Also *228+ works just fine... Loving it so far. Apps2SD doesnt allow as many apps to be moved to the SDCard like in Cyanogen (For example I cant move some of Adobe flash to the SDCard, can on Cyanogen but not on MIUI) Not a big deal as I have a custom MTD layout that gives me 230mb of free space on fresh install =)

Good to hear! Yes, I intended to remove FM radio, but forgot. Working on getting this mornings release of MIUI ported over as we speak.
Which custom MTD did you use? I'm considering going that route as well.
hell yeah
Like this one very much it is very solid only probs i have encountered were covered by cythrawl.

used Firerats Custom MTD from this thread here: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/...-installing-cyanogenmod6-gapps-firerats-cmtd/
Gives you 150mb for system and gets rid of the cache partition so cache will then be on your Data partition instead.. That way the cache partition isn't sitting there not used (like most of the time) and can be used by the system instead.. However this would be bad if you really fill the phone up and have no room for any cache.. Just keep on top of it. Got a ton of apps installed now and I still have 180mb free on the device.. .. Not had any performance issues running it this way with either Cyanogen OR MIUI.
Just follow the guide there, and instead of using Cyanogen use the MiUI Rom... Works a treat..
How much of the system partition does MIUI use? You may have to edit the mtdpartmap.txt (as outlined in my guide linked in the post above; section 'Installing') so that the ROM will fit.
Otherwise, if you get a fully functional build up, I would love to try it out

It IS fully functional as long as you do what I said a couple of posts back, delete the FM Radio App, HTC_IME and put the ERI file in so you get carrier stats so you dont get the roaming symbol anymore.
System storage using the Firerat MTD of 150 2 gives me 35.44mb free on the 150mb System partition..
This ROM is really growing on me... Some things to consider..
Do NOT use titanium backup to backup and restore the APNs to MIUI, make sure you enter them yourself from scratch.. Also do NOT restore any SMS messages.. It will make your message app FC all the time.. start from scratch with that.. Using Titanium to restore stuff like Angry Birds saves etc is fine, just dont use it for any system stuff, looks like it has some compatibility issues..
Other than that, and the *228 issue (just use *228+) its great... It looks and feels totally different from other Android ROMS which is probably why I am liking it..
Besides, do a nandroid backup and take the plunge...

Ah, alright. Not bad.
And yeah of course you shouldn't restore system data from different roms. Lol.

MIUI ROM, My impressions.

So after running pretty much all the roms available for the XT720, I have to say the new MIUI rom beats them all. I came from dexters froyo 1.3 with bug patch. And for some odd reason it was extremely slow and laggy for me. Even with autokiller optimizer id start out with 60 MB free memory and slowly after some use itd come down to 19-20 mb. Anyways this is how I feel about the new MIUI ROM.
MIUI BETA 4:
This has got to be the fastest ROM ever. I had gotten used to using the laggy XT720 and hating it in the process but whoa am I amazed at how fast this one is. You can just fly through applications and menu's without lag. No lag when you open the keyboard, and the most annoying for me was how the keyboard would lag while using haptic feedback which I love. Dont be put off by the theme in the start everything from the boot screen, to the lock screen can be changed using the theme manager. Theres also a bunch of extra functionality. Like for eg flip to stop active ring, if you pick up the phone while its ringing the ringer volumes goes down. Contacts can be divided into groups, favourite messages etc.
The only draw back with this ROM were if you set up swap it seems to drain the battery really quick. like 10 % / 2.5 hours. I use milestone overclock at 56 vsel 1 Ghz and its pretty stable. I love this ROM and whats been put into it. Waiting for the camera app, HDMI out and other little tweaks here and there to be complete. Thanks Khal!
well I run bluesteel Tom. I have modified it some startup 65+memory avg running memory is between 75 to 90 I only know overclock to 800.
Very fast system no lag at all.

I would like to see your list of removed system apps dude..... Bluesteel was like all the other dxter based froyo for me.. works great with memory management for a few days, then slowly memory reduces down to the 19 to 21mb range & performance goes in the crapper.
Can someone explain in detail how I can install Minimod? I know how to install OR but not Minimod.
This info on minimod can be found in xt720 development (minimod)

F*ck MIUI! I really hate this ROM. Every time I see my phone with MIUI it makes me wanna trow it. It looks UGLY by every mean!
Despide MIUI is stable and fast, I think that if you clean BlueSteal v4 it's better. I have better quadrant benchmark resoults too. 1497 with MIUI and 1601 (personal record) with BlueSteal. I start with around 70 free ram on BS and after all widget start (a few, not much) and I use it a little bit it goes down to 45-50, but it's enough. ROM is very stable and responsive. With fj kernal I stay on 60-65 free all the time.

I am interested to see this too. 3rdstring has a list going, but always nice to see another pov. I have same doggish problems too. To the point I am considering 2.1 for awile. Pulling low 1200's in quadrant, but don't take too much stock in that if everything is lagging.

Lol, to each his own I guess. Im pretty sure you are put off by the theme. Blue steels theme was pretty ****ty too. And I dont like updating themes through open recovery its just a pain in the ass. I always just adb push the ubuntu font onto my rom and then change the themes. With MIUI its much easier. Have you ever used a phone with stock MIUI it is on of the most responsive devices ever. I have always had problems with dexters based ROM's. If you have any tricks up your sleeve please share.

If memory got dumped just:
Running services --> Stop!
If doesn't help, Manage Applications --> Force stop!
I don't use Advance task killer, it just dones't work...
Also keep it low on widgets!
Programs running all the time : WidgetLocker, BobD3 Clock, SystemInfo Widget, SwitchPro Widget, SetCPU, Fancy Widget, BattStatt, Launcher Pro Plus twitter and ALYac antivirus real-time scan...
The way I install my ROMs is:
1. Always Flash to stock 2.1 true RSD --> Factory reset!
2. Install Dexter Froyo -> wipe dalvik-cache/Wipe Data/ Facrory reset/ wipe Cache
3. Delete SD card craps from Dexter Froyo --> Factory reset (just in any case)
4. Install Khal's BlueStealEpicv4 -->wipe dalvik-cache/Wipe Data/ Facrory reset/ wipe cache
5. Factory reset (just in any case)
6. Delete - Talk, LatinIMEtutorial, Facebook,Tweetdeck,... etc.
P.S. I always reformat and repartition my SD card Fat32/ext3/swap(for any case )
It my seem too much, but it works for me.

You may wanna try this one http://www.multiupload.com/T05RW5U5HK ... real MIUI. The one you flashed is not actually a MIUI.
Also remember to flash Dexter 1.3 first and wipe dalvik-cache / cache partition / factory reset after restoring.
Hi, just install differtent launcher and change the menue style. After that You have original android feeling with miui advantages.
I use zeam launcher which makes the system very smooth.
Cheers

Hi eSu.Matix,
i'm currently running the steelepicblue as well, it's way nicer than MIUI..I cleaned almost all the system apps and my available RAM is now always between 50 and 70 MB, however, i've never been able to reach that Quadrant score...
What tweaks did you apply? Thank you very much in advance!
Hi,
I love the Miui Rom for :
1. Lot of setting option posibility in Setting page.
2. Like the Toggle bar IN STATUS BAR (FULL SIZE <->) you can scroll left and right. (must have), Its easy to read and have 90% toggle icon we need.
3. Like how easy is to modify or change and customizing theme.
what i dont like is:
The rom is not fully compatible with our XT720
This rom contain some bug for XT720.
Camera have some bug and low resolution env 5meg, HDMI not working at all, VPN dosen't work on my XT720 ON VIDEOTRON NETWORK.
But even that, i have difficulty to leave away. i realy love and need the toggle bar INSIDE the notification bar.
It's is possible to have TOGGLE BAR IN STATUS BAR in other rom
like MIUI, full size <-> , scrolling, good look, easy to toggle etc.
but i realy dont like the LOOK OF toggleBar that use some rom like V4 rom GalaxyXT version
