Some help for making the droid work - Touch Cruise Android Development

I have a POLA100 with windows mobile 6.1 (anime rom 2.0 french) and android installed on ext2 partitions on my SD card.
I'm having heavy troubles making all the thing work.
When I install with polymod rom (2.1g) almost everything is working (exept camera for example) event wifi, but I can't install apps with the market because of "not enough space" ... wait a second, each ext2 partition is 1GB ...
When I install with an other rom, I can't have wifi (I don't use any data connection), so it isn't really usefull ...
And I don't want to remove windows mobile, cause windows allows me to use all of the capabilities of the phone (camera ...)
Is there any way to get my android market to work properly ?

Thanks
In fact yes, that works I just tried it yepee
But, so the the eclair builds are not working on a pola100 ?

So, no eclair build on pola100 ?
And for the warm donut, it looks like the camera definition is lower then on WinMo, i.e : with the barcode scanner, it's all blury and the phone can't scan a 2D barcode.
Normal ?

New day, new problems.
I don't know why, but since yesteray I have heavy battery bugs.
I.E : the battery is going down very quick within android (50% in 2h) with almost nothing activated (no wifi/BT, no gps, no data connection, no sync and apps killed with task killer), and when I plug a usb cable, it doesn't charge.
Can somebody please help me ?

Thanks Alexander for the camera fix
For the battery, I haven't tried your method, but I note it in my mind. I restarded on WinMo, where the wifi was activated, I de-activated it and run haret to reboot on android. Now the battery is charging.
I'll check if it drops down quick again.
I'm looking at the battery info, the average temperature of my battery is 35°C, normal ?

Well, I think I found the problem : I often run TaskKiller to reduce the charge on the processor, but it kills the battery update service, I just had to except it, now I know when it is charging.
But anyway, it android seems to use more battery then WinMo, normal ?

Hello, me again ! ^^
I was searching on my phone an option to enable auto-completion when writing.
Well, it works, but only for English ... and I'm French.
It seams that I don't have the French dictionary (not bundled in warm donut ?)
Is there a way to installer the French word dictionary on the phone, or must I absolutely use one of the non-free keyboard available on the android market ?
I've also seen that the HTC-IME keyboard looks pretty cool, but there is no version available for our phone, is there ?
[EDIT] I just tried AnySoftKeyboard, with includes a French dictionary, nice ! But for the HTC-IME ?

Htc ime...go with every language but it´s a long way....
Start....:
Installation Instructions
1. Install both HTC_IME.apk and Clicker.apk.
2. Rename/remove the file /system/lib/libt9.so (I suggest renaming to libt9bk.so). You need root permissions to do this (the program Root Explorer works great.)
3. Menu -> Settings -> Locale & text. Enable 'Touch Input'.
4. Go to a text field and long-hold until a menu pops up.
5. Select 'Input Method' and then 'Touch Input'
1.1 Download the latest htc ime from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567294
or here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=661525
2.1 make the system root/write access to change the name of libt9
- open terminal
- type "su"
- type "mount -o remount,rw /system"
... and then I could rename the file w/ Root Explorer (must be root explorer..i think)
3.1 change the language: look here:
http://ostebaronen.dk/changing-htc_ime-language-to-danish/
a bit easier: change to htc ime...go to sms and long press on the input text...now a menu come and you can change....
go in a explorer to: data/data/com.htc.android.htcime/shared_prefs/com.htc.android.htcime_preferences.xml (now visible)--and copy it to sd card...
open the xml and change the language code (like in the link)....copy it over the old one....
please do not change the lang setting in text input settings...(you don´t see a lang in this box now)
i think it was all
edit: for the correct view: change to 120 dpi....and take my corrected dialer:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=676102
Now it´s all...i hope

Grah, I killed android.
I wanted to change the dpi to 120 with rogue tools, but It did something wrong and the density got to 160...
I searched on the forum and found a androidupdate for 120 with working wifi, set it and ... no more android boot ... Oo
Since then I tester many android update for 110 or 120 dpi with or without wifi, and I never rebooted...
I guess I'll have to install android again.
For further crashes like this, is there a way to create a backup of the system ? .... hum since I'm on a ext2 partition on the sd card, maybe just copy the file to my pc ?
[EDIT] Since I'm going to reinstall the whole thing, I saw that on Myn's Warm Donut main page there is a 480*320 version downloadable, but it can't work on our phone, can it ?

Sorry Alexander, i'm here again.
1st, I could not use the HTC IME cause I can't do this :
2. Rename/remove the file /system/lib/libt9.so (I suggest renaming to libt9bk.so). You need root permissions to do this (the program Root Explorer works great.)
Click to collapse
I cant set the folder /system/lib to read/write with Root Explorer, so can't delete the file ... And can't test the keyboard.
2nd, I used this TOPIC to boost the sensitivity of the screen on WinMo and it gets realy more reactive, is there a similar fix on Android ?

You need to use a terminal ie better terminal to make the filesysytem read/write
su "make's you super user"
mount -o remount,rw /system "makes filesystem read write"
you can use Root Explorer to rename now "the safe way" or
rm /system/lib/libt9.so "removes file"

thanks, it's working now !

Sorry, here I am again.
Recently I lost the data connection on my phone, no more internet with edge (or 3g, is there a way to active/see what type of connection is used ?).
I tried rebooting the phone many time, activating and de-activating wifi, bluetooth, airplane mode, nothing.
I saw a "modem" application, where it seems I can disconnect and re-connect the data connection, I says "data already turned on" but there is nothing to do ...
Any idea (again) ?

Can somebody help me ? I tried by changing the connection configuration in wimno before launching harret, activating auto 3G, enabling or disabling the data connection, but nothing work, android doesn't connect anymore on data. The modem application says that data is turned on but i have no IP.
Please help.

Have you tried APNDroid...? with this you can set data connecion on off...

just tried apndroid, with the widget on "On", mms "On", notifications "On", de-activate all apn "off", it doesn't change anything.
I tried to de-activate and re-activate the data with apndroid, but nothing.
Will I have to again re-install Android ?

Wow, I got it to work again, I had to re-create an apn with the correct configuration to make it work.
But anyway, thanks for all
[EDIT]Ow no, just one thing, I have the data icon with a "E", it means that i'm connected with EDGE (2G), no ? Is it possible to activate 3G ?
An other question, totally apart, is there a plan to port android 2.2 to polaris. Cause it seams that it is much faster than all other versions.

some serious questions about arthemis and wm5

i have an artemis p3300 (or xda III in other countries) for over 1 month now.
some things i like and i dislike.
pro : -scrollbal and ring are incredible
-backlight and screen is great
-wifi, gprs, mobile part en gps works perfect
-slim case
-sound is incredible loud.
cons: -omap processor is a bit slow (even overclocked at 252) for multimedia
like streaming video or gaming
- to little ram memory..there is not much left after installing the default
applications so forget skinning
so overal for a business user, it,s the perfect phone. For a home user who wants to modifie
everything or loves the multimedia it;s to slow and to little ram to give comfort.
To give you an idea..my previous phone is a axim x5 advanced and it's still faster then this phone.
questions?
- can windows messenger get the ppc out of his sleep like the mobile part of the phone can?
- Why is wifi falling out when i put the phone in sleep?
- when wifi fails (to far from wifirouter) it goes automaticly to gprs. I don;t want that and i just want wifi to keep trying a connection. Now i switch the mobile part off when i surf the net.Any solutions?
- My old dell also has a wificard in it..can i communicate between the two devices over wifi..and what are the possibilities that i could do (exemple: using it as intercom or viewing the camera live stream from the artemis?)
please give me your ideas or solutions.
thanks in advance
Ok here are some answers:
First, I think you are confusing RAM and flash here. In WM 5 the apps are not installed in RAM but on flash (internal storage). If you don't have enough of that (nobody does) get a storage card (2GB should do fine).
As for RAM, according to specs it has 64MB same as all the devices in the last couple of years (except a few cheap ones with 32MB).
The biggest problem with skinning is not so much memory as CPU. Even if I had a 520MHz device (like say Asus 525) I still would not use it.
- As for messenger if you are logged on you will hear a beep when someone sends you a message but the screen doesn't come on. There may be a setting for this, I haven't checked.
- This is default for HTC devices as far as I've seen. Standby switches WiFi off (I guess to conserve power).
- You can put your WiFi connection and GPRS connection under different networks and switch through Settings->Connections->Connections->Advanced->Network selection. Don't know any good solution for this though.
- Generally PPCs cant establish an Ad-hock WiFi network. There are no server components on the devices. But I did see an app awhile ago that connects two devices by WiFi to create a intercom / walkie-talkie kind of thing. Don't remember the name.
thanks for the reply.
after clean installation and a few other small soft i need to install in the storage memory..i have 4.92 mb storage free and 24.29 mb program free.
on my dell i could free up more storage space with a slider but now it's inpossible cause there is no slider anymore in wm5?. And yes i have a 1 gig storage card voor most of the soft and offcourse tomtom. So when i want to install a bigger program (even on my microsdcard) it says i have not enough working space anymore.
So where is that slider? or how do i solve this.
and is there any soft so i could see whats installed in flash or other memory?
last question..i loved theme switcher from microsoft..but it works only half on wm5..are there new versions of it. The problem is when i go in the preferences of theme switcher it always scans my whole network of computers to finds tks files.
thanks
Have you been using the device on the internet? if so start the internet explorer program Meue/ Tools/ Options select the Memory Tab and select both the History and delete files buttons. Does this clear some memory for usage? - Mike
Mike..i did even better, I surf with opera and it's all installed on my memory card. I have installed memaid so i can see what's taken up so much memory, but i still have no idea where it is installed. Oke, i know bij names that most of it is installed on my memory card but thats all.

I fixed my gps!

If you use a program like visualGPSce, you may notice that you can see lots of satellites, but you can't get a fix. I managed to fix it by:
1) Setting my log file to 3200bytes (using advanced config)
2) Disabling aGPS
3) I then turned off the phone, took out the battery for 10-20 seconds and replaced it.
4) Ran the quickgps program
5) Managed to get a fix and have it working quite fast!
I don't think all of this is necessary, but I have a theory:
I have a holux gpsslim 236B and sometimes it exhibits similar behaviour if you send it screwed up commands. The way to fix that was to remove the battery and then open the case to short out the backup battery (Yep, they were so helpful in enabling it to "remember" your corrupt settings). Reassemble and the gps device works fine. I get a feeling that the raphael may also benefit from such treatment (a forced reset on the gps module).
The only other theory I have is that the gps log file was corrupt (I couldn't delete it so I just made another one) and maybe that fixed it.
I've only given it limited testing, but if it breaks, I'll let you know so you don't waste your time!
I noticed my GPS performance was much better when I set my gpslogfile to 32KB as opposed to setting it's size to 0.
Just my 2c.
Isn't the quickgps tool for agps?
So either the disabling of agps or the quickgps is not necessary

what's the logic/reasoning behind adjusting he gpslog file? i occasionally use GPS/tomtom though i would probably consider using it more frequently if getting a signal lock didn't take anywhere from 5-15 minutes.
i currently have disabled agps (no data plan so it's useless anyway) and have no logfile set to 0 as per the suggested settings i saw on fuzemobility.com post.
Can you post the file you used to load QuickGPS? I tried to download one but could not get it to run on my XDA Serra.
@kimbja98
how long has it been working? get back to us after a month or so of solid performance... the GPS issues seem to be so random that doing almost anything can seem like it fixes it... but i hope you're right
Just used it on the train on the way into work and it was fine, took about 2 minutes to get a location.
One thing I think may have been the problem is that it thinks it should see X satellites but obviously can't and gets confused (even if there are others in clear view), which may be down to agps, quickgps (I'm not sure if they're the same thing) or corrupted log file but now those satellites it can't see get dropped from the list (you can see this happening in VisualGPSce) and it gets a location after about 5 or 6 have been found. The holux seems to get positions at 4 (which theoretically, is the minimum but could be done with 3 if altitude is negligable) but that uses the sirfstar III chipset...I don't know what the raphael uses though.
I should mention I use ROMeOS 1.40 and that may have something to do with it. Either way, I'll be giving it some fairly rigorous testing. If it does break, I'll know how long it took and it may be that the log file got full and if it that, some regular deleting may be called for.

YES, your method seems to be one of working the best.
Congratulation.
I use the mix of some methods in the forum, and my GPS reception is quite good, even in my room inside!!
MY CONCLUSION:
1. to get rid of useless stuffs from the system (which also bad for the sat reception), use
[ROM] [WWE]RAPHAEL WM6.1 V05 - Build 20758.1.4.1 - pdaviet.net (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=438488&highlight=20758.1.4.1) and
[RADIO] Raphael Radio 1.02.25.28 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=437219)
(before installing these ROM, the first step should be installing the HARD-SPL to save your device (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=410150)
2. to get a really quick fix,
take the battery out, as mentioned above, for a few minutes, to clear the GPS memory. (You can try for example igo now, you will see nothing on the sat view at this time...).
After that download QuickGPS data (the ROM I mentioned has a correct quickGPS data download!) If you see iGO sat view this time, you will see a lot of red dots immediately, and after a not too long waiting, you'll have fix)
3. to make the GPS even faster,
adjust the baudrate to 38400 (with comport4) in your navigation program. (But leave port4 and baud4800 settings in the Windows Mobile settings!!)
4. there could be some navi software, which couldn't get fix (iGO yes, for example Googlemapsmobile not every time), use GPStest (http://www.chartcross.co.uk/products/WM00002_details.asp), select com4 and baud 38400 also, minimize, and run the other navi. It WILL work!
5. after getting a fast signal, in order to get rid of lag while navigating, use this excellent method from the forum:
A. With Advanced config 3.2 http://www.touchxperience.com/fr/out...ol-32-cab.html
1. disable A-GPS
2. disable GPS logging
3. logfile name must be empty
4. old logfile name must be empty
5. maximum size of logfile must be 0
6 delete the files : \windows\GPSLogFile.txt and \windows\GPSLogFileBack.txt
Under: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\
- Drivers\GpsOneDevice\PollInterval -> 100 (default is 1000)
- Drivers\InputBufferSize -> 256 (EDITED!!) (default is 4096)
- Drivers\OutputBufferSize -> 256 (EDITED!!) (default is 4096)
- Drivers\SleepOnNoData -> 100 (default is 1000)
- Multiplexer\MaxBufferSize -> 256 (EDITED!!) (by default not present, you have to create it)
AND: from
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver] leave blank the followings (delete the data from inside):
"CurrentLogFile"=" "
"OldLogFile"=" "
With these settings, I have a really cool reception!!
One more thing: if you feel that the reception going worse, do the battery-taking-quickgps-using trick again!
FOR ALL THESE INFOS THANKS FOR THE DIFFERENT MEMBERS OF THIS FORUM!!!!!
(ps: some series ((series "2" ?!)) have no any gps reception problem. If you have this series, be happy, and don't do anything...)
ps2: I've tried other methods also from the forum (for example Nadavi HTC GPS tool, etc.), and made hard reset on my phone many many times to try other methods, but the mix of these methods seems to work, the other ones are not really necessary. So this mix has no contains all the possible solutions from the forum, and this was not the way of selection without thinking..

as I know quickgps and agps are quite different
-quickgps is downloading the latest sat positions to get faster fix
-agps is using phone cell informations also for positioning, besides the satellites

Gps Signal ERROR + new htc's rom

Hello
I took the last version of raphael's ROM, v.5.05.401.1WWE, radio 1.11.25.01, updating by the original HTC website, the link to it is avaible on xda too.
The problem was that when i finished the update, specifically on the saturday, i took my igo8, openned it, and the signal doesnt work, i couldnt take the gps signal today too, is for this issue that i am posting it here.
When I open the igo8's settings, it locates the GPS, but when I go to the map the signal stays off.
I tested it on googlemaps too, that came with the new rom, and i couldnt take the GPS signal too, what should I do?
Did you update quick gps?
where can i do it?
I have the same problem, although I updated Quick GPS. No GPS Signal with any application.
I had the same problem. After the update the mark in the setting for GPS (system/external GPS/access) was missing.
Unfortunately the mark is there and it is not working...
nevertheless thank you! Any other idea?
try this

Hi,
I think I have a solution.Download the HTC GPS Tool (e.g. from here http://rs276.rapidshare.com/files/84815853/Nadavi_HTC_GPS_TOOL.cab)
-Check if you have AGPS disabled (e.g. with Advanced Config)
-Update QuickGPS
-Install HTC GPS Tool
-Run HTC GPS Tool
-Check the Correct Com Port (Settings - > External GPS)
-Set Baudrate to 57600
-Press open
-Select Cold Start from the Dropdown list
-Mark the Repeat Selectbox
-Press Nav. Init.
-Now It can take 1 or 2 hours
-Check the status via the satelit tab
If nothing works, press Close, reset your PPC, select Clear Memory from the select box, press Nav. Init. and wait about 15 Minutes and reset your PPC again. Repeat the procedure above. You can also try the other options in the drop down box. I don't know the options I used anymore, but now it works.
My problem was, that I was to impatient and thought, that anything must be broken. So try this method and I hope it works.
I found this solution in the german forum www.ppc-welt.info (direct link for all german speaking people: http://www.ppc-welt.info/community/showthread.php?t=133565)

Hi, yes you're right. I do the same this morning before I see your solution, like you I was very impatient and thought something broken.
I do almost exactly what you do and now is gettin a hot fix in less than a 2 seconds and 1-2 minutes cold fix.
Many thanks for your help!
see I'm happy
Just do this.....
(works on cdma too)
-update quick gps
-open gps tool
-select clear memory and click open
-wait 15 seconds, select warm start
-make sure repeat is checked
-click nav init
-check you satellites
-works every time
If it doesn't work within 30 seconds close everything down and repeat. There are known conflicts with the gps function of this device cycling things on and off solves nearly everything.
Make sure you have a clear view of the sky!!!
Simply a comment, my issue with Fuze GPS is almost resolved except (sometimes the fix go on and off quickly for a few seconds usually 10-15 seconds and sometimes lag on a minute or so, maybe the cycling atempts to run a GPS software make it get a fix but...) I still own an assian Touch-pro and NEVER have this problem. (side by side is more consistent) However i turn to the fuze cause the 3G radio frecuency capable for america's
(Mexico) really speed up the hungry data programas like google maps and youtube, but my data limits too.
I don't know wich one i will keep... By the time i disassembly the cover and get a Fuze with a secondary videocall camera, nice keyboard and rubber back, not the ugly finish of the at&t Fuze.
Many thanks to all in the forum

[Q] WiFi can connect, but wont load pages and no Sync

I have problem with my Froyo Android and 2.6.25 kernel (but it was similar on .32).
I can turn ON WiFi and connect to my home network, but it has problems with loading pages (it wont load page at all most of the time, I only loaded google.cz once) and I cant even login into Google acc and Market.
My WiFi is working on notebook or other phone, but cant make it work on my Polaris and Android.
Anyone know how to fix this? Maybe some WiFi settings that Android or Cruise cant handle? Or some other fix or suggestion?
Thank you for all tips...
it wasn't kernel releated, try to change release (Fresh Froyo, Scoot's, Clemsys's)
I have tryed a few builds, but it seems to be allways the same. Wifi is connected but cant load any pages, when I restarted phone, it loads 1 page just after restart and then nothing again all the time (I cant even reload the same page again).
Its probably some settings or maybe hardare problem? I really dont know what to do or how could I test where is a problem. Probably only option is to flash WM 6.5 back and try to do something there... but still I dont know how to test if its maybe hardare problem.
So I have tryed WM 6.5 again and Wi-Fi works great there. I am glad its not hardware problem, but still it would be great to make it work on Android.
I cant access Market or sign-in account and Android is useless because of that, since USB connection also doesnt work :-/
So after I was sure WiFi is working in WM 6.5, I have tryed another Android again.
With clemsyn's RC1 build and 2.6.32 kernel I was able to at least log into Google account and access market. But WiFi is very slow only 1kB/s at max and drops a lot. I wasnt able to download Opera from market after 3hrs mainly because of disconnects. Sometimes it also crashes and show startup animation.
Now I know problem is in Android OS only, but I still dont know what to do to fix it or if it can be fixed at all (if not I have to flash WM back again :-/).
So noone has an idea?
I would be glad for any tips, because I tryed everything I found, but Internet is still dead :-/
Also with Radio 1.58.21.23 you still have that problem?
Yes, even with this radio ( 1.58.21.23) it remains exactly the same. I didnt re-flash system after latest radio update, because I dont have enough battery left for flash, so I hope it wont mind.
I will re-flash soon anyway because I am trying different setups all the time now
Only little difference seems to be between 2.6.32. and 2.6.25 kernels. While in .25 it never loads any page, in .32 I am able to load google homepage after a lot of trying (but nothing else).
I am allways downloading these throught Atools, because I dont know how to prepare different POLAIMG.NBH by myself, so I only tested two versions available there.
I dont know if it doesnt load page at all or if its sooo slow that loading timeouts. Is there any utlity where I could see if packets are being send or received? On the other hand it doesnt solve anything anyway.
But it can connect to WiFi site and with .32 it even transfer google page sometimes, so it somehow "works" and transfers some packets occasionally.
Sad thing is, that there arent much settings in Android system, so I cant play with that. I also tryed different settings on my WiFi router, but it didnt help at all.
if you use adb and ping google did you have time out?
I never used adb, but I cant find any console or link to shell in my ROM.
Should I install Android SDK and adb driver in Win or can I access it somehow in my phone?
I have downloaded "Better Terminal Emulator Pro" and "Terminal Emulator" and installed from SD card.
In command line I write
Code:
su
ping 74.125.87.104
after a few tries where I get 100% packet loss, I manage to get better results:
Code:
--- 74.125.87.104 ping statistics ---
72 packets transmitted, 9 packets received, 87% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 158.338/328.306/1143.300 ms
similar on other website, also only after a few tries:
Code:
--- 77.75.72.3 ping statistics ---
51 packets transmitted, 3 packets received, 94% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 1003.263/1090.418/1141.900 ms
Seems to be a problem with the connection with router...
How many devices are connected to it?
Do all devices work good?
Router itself isn't a problem. Only 1 or 2 devices are connected to it and they are all mine (notebook and mobile phone).
I thought it may be a problem, that Android port for Polaris cant handle my settings, so I tried different settings, but it was the same.
Router works well with LG Optimus One (Froyo) and even with my Polaris, only with WM 6.5.3 ROM and of course my notebook works well too.
I wonder where could be the problem as most of Polaris users have working WiFi. I dont thinkI have any different part of hardware in it and I changed all software related things many times ROM, radio, kernel.
PS: results above are with kernel 2.6.32 I believe with 2.6.25 I would have 100% packet loss all the time. As change of kernel is only thing so far that have some impact on this issue I think it could be with some setting in there. I dont know what things can be changed in there or how I could try different versions, so I only tried three versions (two that I can select in Atools) and one that came with Eclair ROM.
So I have found where can be a problem and it rly seems to be hardware releated.
As I said before, in WM 6.5 WiFi works well, but I found its only because there is option to set "Best Wi-Fi Performance (May consume more power)" in advanced settings of WiFi.
When I turn this option off, I get similar results like in Android. Wi-Fi is very slow, so it wont even load page.
I cant find similar option in Android settings, so I want to ask if there is similar option in Android hidden somewhere or maybe some shell command or file edit, how I can change it?
try to extract wifi_levels.sh from K_K vaniljeclair and change the level.
Hi,
I set it to "extreme" and it seems to be working!!!
Thank you VERY much for all your help.

remove features from a smartphone Android

Hello , I would like to pose a problem " atypical ".
I need to use an android phone only the date / time stamp, GPS, NFC reader , the GSM network (only to speed the search for the position ) , a wifi network (only for my one application installed on the device) .
Basically I need to remove almost everything from an Android phone (call , browse, update , install / use applications other than the default, access to wifi networks other than the one set , take pictures , watch videos / listen to music and so on) .
Let me clarify the operation expected : the user turns on the device and my application start; the device is switched to standby ; when require, user unlock the phone and obtain some information ( date / time, GPS position detected) ; put the phone to a NFC tag , it reads the data and saves informations in local ( automatic operations , without human intervention ) ; emission of a sound of completion operation ; standby until successive readings ; when returned home, phone identifies the wifi network and exchanges data with an enterprise server . Nothing more.
I ask , is it possible " clear " an android phone to not allow any function different to the above ?
(sorry for my english)

Are you making an app or are you making your own os that would do only the above things??
If you dont want call and all those functions you could go to the root of rom to /system/app and delete the apks like phone call storage sms related thing ( to remove call and sms) to delete browse delete the browser apk
and delete the certificate installer or package installer apks to remove installing function etc
HIT THANX IF I HELPED:laugh:
Yeah you can go to system root #with es file explorer root or system.root and then delete call and all other apps from System/app. And delete their data from system/data and then reboot. I think that icons will somehow show up(u can hide them) but the functions will stop working. Hope It helped

Titanium Backup Pro allows you to freeze apps (disable them and they typical diaper from your drawer. It also allows you to back up and remove it.
I'd go this route as you just start delete stuff with out knowing whats going to happen then who knows, at least this way you can disable it first and see if your OS is stable.
very useful tip
for many but not for all!
your suggestion (test before remove) is valuable.
thanks to all.
