I'll give this one a try as well. Been using Donut by Laszlo the last two days and I like the looks except for a few icons(don't like square boxes on my icons) and the speed is real good.
the not so great looking part is perfect, The ROMs posted here should focus on the internal technical aspects, like speed n stability. you wanna worry bout looks goto theme section. Themes are something personal

this thing is super fast, minor lag when coming to the first boot and i agree, i prefer a boot loading screen than a white screen...otherwise A+

Guy, you are crazy. I'm grateful, but it shoulden't be on XDA, between great developer ROM's. Maybe I'm wrong, but it's mine opinion. BonsaI it's mine modification/distribution of some great ROM.
If you install it, you wont disappointed, like author said.

hey bro excellent review. this is how people should review stuff. comparing them to the other roms theyve used, and also providing feedback was to what this rom is good at and bad at (aka a pro's con's list). some people were saying they had reboot issues? i'm guessing yours is running perfect. lazlo's rom was ok but he doesn't respond on feedback and i disliked it because i couldnt install the latin_ime.apk without a force close.
@sino8r- is their latin_ime.apk running in this rom or will it fc as well? if this rom runs well, i am going to theme it to CYANOCH (if you guys remember that is what i put together using CYANOID and ENOCH themes for two roms that had no good themes at that time. currently i am running Pay's rom with advanced launcher because i didnt like home++;i themed it as well to CYANOCH and made it JIT enabled- so far its very smooth.

Hello, first of all I want to thanks cyanogen, dwang and DBeCe, and all who those guys thanked to.
So, long story short I combined some of Cy's 4.2.4 improvements with dwang's 1.11 SPEEDY ROM, and DBeCe's blanco gray/silver theme with 5 screens instead of 3, with transparent statusbar and some personal touch to it (I am going to create a new theme as soon as possible, time is of the essence). So far everything is Working!

Just flashed this...so far so good. Spiffing it up a little bit with some transitions, custom images, and various tweaks. I will be running test to see if I can break it. Dwang's roms have always ran well with my phone I expect this to be no different. Will edit this post when done.

Actualy I added separately into my ROM the new contacts, it looks better.

Is it just me or does the Bluetooth app from Cyan's rom force close? I ran fix_permissions and rm -r and added it back still no go.

WOW!!!!! The fastest rom I've ever used on my G1 to date. this thing is flying by and never stopping to load a thing!!! Not to mention I haven't even begun to tweak it. No swapper, no over clocking, just reliable fast and stable, Big ups to you my friend you've delivered a true gem here with this one.
Will def keep an eye out for your other roms to come. I do wish that there were more themes available. But I'm sure they're in the works.

This thing is flying like no other. Everything is flawless. Ran into some force closes but not because of the rom just fix_permisson needed, although Bluetooth.apk is still force closing on me. No worries though no complaints here on my end.
On a side note. Why does it say Droid 2.0? Even when my computer finds my phone via bluetooth it no longer says G1 it says Droid...not complaining just wondering.

It is using Dwang's version of Cyanogen's kernel so I believe it is universal.

Hmm well this is odd. I flashed Slacker's theme and lost all data connection. It wouldn't even find networks for wifi. I flashed Blanco for Dwang and added the res folder from Slacker's theme into the framework-res.apk and still no data connection. But flashed the regular Blanco with anim folder from blur and data worked.....suggestions?

Dropbear was removed from Gumbo. If enough people need it back, I can build a stand alone update for it. This was done to save space, as not many people who were asked were using Dropbear.
Apps2SD is still enabled and working as before,
This version includes the latest Gumbo kernel and RAM hacks. By default they are set to a balanced mix of speed, stability and battery life using settings reported to work the best by testers. Should you want to change these settings, install setcpu or the User defined CPU settings addon above, or use the echo command to change the parameters yourself.

Why call it Gumbo?
People keep asking, so I'll answer here. Gumbo is a type of stew (a delicious type) that can be made with any leftovers or any type of meat and veggies. Hell, I've had rattlesnake gumbo and it was delicious. HTC/Google/Sprint basically took a mix of 1.5/1.6 and whatever else they had laying around to get Android to run on a CDMA radio. Combine a mix of everything with Google's food naming obsession, and Gumbo was the result.

I think that was just the first few people who got the clock bug. Left out the weather app and forgot the clock depends on it with the htc framework.

I wouldn't even really call this a port, maybe a bastardization is appropriate ... but, with a little help from the kitchen, I was able to put together a workable version of CR's MyTouch Slide BETA rom.
This port does have working Browser and Gmail which was missing from Binary's version.

which rom do I have to flash before flashing this port. I cant find firerats original build which im assuming is what I need to flash. Thanks

hmm weird, I did that and it didnt work. maybe I didn't wait long enough? or I just had to flash again. Thanks. And sorry for the stupid question. A lot of people post things that you need to flash something else first and never make it clear of what it is that needs to be flashed.
Does that include the sd wipe?
If you're already partitioned then yes, do a SD wipe
It's like a 76' Ford Fairmont ... You have to give it a while to load.
Run logcat while loading and you'll see that everything is working just fine

I really enjoyed what T-Mobile put together here, but the rom was not good on battery and my phone was running way too hot . Going to patiently wait for some updates then flash back. Can't wait!!

I've been running it a couple days now and haven't really noticed any major battery drains.
It also comes stocked with SetCPU, you can set your profiles and throttle down the processor once your battery surpasses a certain temperature.
Sweet looking build, but It keeps freezing on me while syncing. I also got the reboot issue when selecting theme.

I've noticed the frequent freezes especially after installing apps and the reboot issue reoccurring is also prevalent in the original build. CR should address it in the next update.
What I did was went ahead and partitioned with ext4 & swap and it seems to run a lot more smoother than before.
Yea I wiped and flashed again. This time I selected the advertised theme and just went slower than before. No random reboots and everything is now working fine. It is a little too slow for me right now but I love how it looks. I also like to remove contact photos in my address book view and cannot in this build.
On a side note, does anyone have issues with Nandroid restores? I can perform a backup and restore but when I boot up after a restore it never gets past the splash screen... kind of annoying and defeats the purpose of the backup.

Before I say anything, I would like to thank Jrummy for helping me with this as much as he did, also for bearing with me through all of my annoying questions.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Imoseyon for looking over my code and for all of his awesome kernel tweaks.
^Without these two people the Droid X/2 rom community would be totally lame^
For my first release I made a fairly basic build. That being said however, there are a lot of tweaks that will definitely be noticeable in battery life and performance. Also I wanted this to be very easy for everyone. After the initial install I have made all of the performance adjustments for you. Install it and you're good to go!

If you are running the official Droid 2 GB leak then:
-bootstrap recovery
-reboot into bootstrap recovery

Your phone may appear to bootloop once on the initial install, do not be alarmed! It is just a part of the zipaligning process.
On the first boot it you're phone may reboot, this is normal and a side effect of the interactive gov on first boot..

Been stuck at loading screen for about 20 minutes, wiped after backup ad flashed.

Attempting again.
Tried again, same result.
Bootstrap, wipe, install. After install it just hangs at M and seems to do this because it is not a recognized ROM and the phone is trying to authenticate it.

Market patch allow you access to all apps in the market - some apps (like TV.COM for instance) will not appear on the gingerbread based ROMs - definitely apply it -
I installed this rom yesterday and it is nice and fast no issues so far.

You can't do it on your phone unless you have a program that allows you to, like Castro file manager, download it on your computer.

wow, pretty impressed
im very happy with the gingerbread and thank you very much for developing a fix for it. i have a few things to say, its fast, looks better, functions better, and shows high quadrants. i oc'd it to 1.2 at first and got 2059 and oc'd at 1.1 i got 1866...thats the highest quadrants ive ever seen on any rom for my droid 2 with any kind of overclocking settings period. but i think its awesome with the crt zoom out when you turn the screen off and the visual animations are pretty awesome. definitely worth the wait and its working almost flawlessly. the little led notification in the top right portion of my screen doesnt seem to work at all and sometimes i have to restart my phone due to the poor volume in the headset when a call comes in (can barely hear anything) but i heard thats a gb issue for the droid 2 before you "fixed" some things. also i would be interested to see exactly what apks you can remove from system/app because theres a lot of bloat ware and i renamed/deleted a lot of the stuff i know i wouldnt use but accidentally removed some very important files (idr which ones) but i had to sbf and do it all over again to have a functioning phone so if theres a list of removable apks somewhere for gb maybe someone could post a link? thanks for all the hard work again!

I installed ZS 1.5 right on top of 1.2 and have had no problems at all.
It took a few minutes for it to get up to speed but now it seems faster than before.

TEST VERSION 1. WIFI IS BROKEN (i'm embarrassed to say). It worked in an earlier test without a2sd, and i'll fix it. Just wanted to get this out for you guys. Also home doesn't stay in memory (bad values for autokiller, someone can try and delete /system/etc/init.d/S97ramscript and see if it helps). Another note: you need sd card with 3 partitions.
Thanks everyone for their great support and great attitudes about DEV on G1. It will forever be the best and first android device. I'm sad to be moving on.
Like me or not, the truth is that more dev is always better. This rom is an ode to that, and it is an awesome rom.
I know it doesn't take a week to make a perfect rom. This WILL be updated.

Terry is working on gingerbread, i think his is the best we got, and we dont need another copy-paste trashy gb, with bugs, no offence to new "devs" but they are not doing anything, just copying ezgb or porting cm. We have EzGb, Ads, Cos, Cm7Magpie(from firerat) this is more than enough, and they are doing real developing!
Again, no offence, but everyone can sync a repo, or porting cm. Than came to xda and making a new thread with some clever taglines, this is just nonsense.

Gb AOSP with features from Cyanogenmog with several other languages (LIKE PL f.e.), and with working market.
There must be CPUOC and Native Data to SD and modded data to EXT and Dalvik-Cache to EXT build into settings app (in "Advanced" section).
DSP manager and options to set compache or swap must be too.
Also you can include mod wich is installing apps in "/data/app/ folder, because it extends lifetime of your build as a base rom in modding.
The rom must be very lightweight so there will be sense in using custommtd.
Camcorder, Calculator, Gmail, Email, Youtube and some other apps could be installed in /data/app from beginning to save some place on /system/.
The rom could be deodexed too.
You can add your own refreshed version of Ezterry newest kernel and add to it harder oc values (>614mhz).
Cyanogenmod transparent status bar will be welcome too

I would agree to this rom because donut is the best for our G1 but the market dont show some apps that show up on froyo/gb roms.

i`m a big fan of htcclay`s work. those were some fine roms, he did for g1.
as for "the gift" ... there are a few good and stable roms based on froyo. froyo by lazlo and biffmod. i really don`t know what else can be done there.
let`s think what do we want. a light/stable gingerbread ? or an old rom with something new ?
why do we like gb over froyo?
anyway, now, most gb roms don`t have swap. so that may be an ideea.
