Battery widget A2SD - Hero CDMA Themes and Apps

I formatted my card for ext2 and swap and am Using A2SD with Modaco 1.1 but the battery widget no longer works. How do I move it back to internal storage?

Also the Handcent widget won't work so I have to just use a shortcut, is this something taht is known to not work from sd? is it possible to use droid explorer to move these applications to internal memory also, I'm that that good with the console.

did you uninstall them then reinstall them after the rom reboot

ap2sd works when you have and ext2 on your sd card, it creates and envronmental variable to tell android that all the user installed apps are now on the sd card.
if you installed these apps before you formated your sd card to ext2 the data for these apps... executeables etc are still located in data/app instead of /system/sd/app
blah blah... long story short, uninstall the app and reinstall it via market. There might be an additional problem with the app uninstalling because android doesn't know where to look for the original app.
in that case try turning off your phone
removing the sd
restart the phone
uninstall the app agian (the link will be restored at that point)
turn off the phone
put the sd card back in
turn phone back on,
reinstall the app you want

It seems that with Modaco's rom the apps automatically moved to the system/sd/apps at least thats where they all show up when I look for them in the console. Long story short though everything started working after enough time and a restart and they are on the sd card now. It was just odd that they wouldn't for a while when everything else was working. It works now though.

might be the boot cache that's doing it then

yeah, im using handcent and experienced the same widget problem.
It happens when you update a program that is stored on the sdcard. There's another thread in here that talks about it in more details, but you basically have to remove the contents of the boot-cache folder and restart the phone for it to rebuild all the data.
Works perfectly after this...but everytime you update you will have to do this.
You could probably just move the handcent program to the phone (i.e. off the sdcard) to fix this issue. Follow the same methods that are described in the thread that talks about fixing google maps/google voice search....its the exact same principals:

i was trying to do the apps to sd card thing and after doin all of the terminal commands (i got to the point right after seeing how much space i have on my sd card and internal) this was my next step:
busybox cp -a /data/app /system/sd
rm -r /data/app
ln -s /system/sd/app /data/app
but after doin it it kept saying "no space on memory" or somethin so i went to internet cleared cache, forms, cookies, and history then restarted to make sure the terminal knew (noobish)
and it just froze at the G1 splash screen...HELP!!!!!
something like this happened to me when i downloaded a theme and i just reinstalled my original modded rc33 firm and it was fixed, but this time it did the same thing. i can still pull up the system recovery utility screen so im wondering if theres anything i can type in the log (alt+L) or console (alt+x)

Are you using one of the apps to sd ROM's? Without that all hell will break loose when you try apps to sd.
As for the poll, there's a reason why Google couldn't make apps run off the sd card. In order to do it they'd have to have the sd card be ext2 since you can't symlink to a FAT32 partition. Since windows computers won't recognize ext2 partitions that was a no-go, since, you know, 90% of people use windows. Also, look at what happens with the apps to sd hack when you take out the sd card. Suddenly apps that may or may not be running don't exist and, again, all hell breaks loose. Better to force people to hack their phones to get this working than to actually have the phone work that way when it can cause such severe problems.
EDIT: after looking briefly at the link, I see that the instructions you followed were for non-apps to sd ROMs. I see no reason why it didn't work but if you really don't feel that comfortable with it, you could always just flash one of the apps to sd ROMs and follow one of those(much easier) tutorials or even use my app to do it with the push of a button. Just remember, after moving them you MUST restart your phone for anything to work.
Whats the point of this poll?

'fraid I'm not sure how to do this without an apps to sd ROM(I tried to do this myself originally and ended up giving up). But flashing one of them(LucidREM's, Haykuro's apps to sd or The Dude's apps to sd) should fix whatever's going on I'd think. From your commands it looks like anything that would be fixed from the recovery terminal was already correct. You probably won't have your apps anymore but since it looks like setting jf's up for apps to sd is what failed, they're probably already gone. From there running my app should work. Also, it wont let you move the apps to sd if anything isn't set up right so this shouldn't happen again.

For the ROMs, go to the Dream android development forum(what this thread is in) and go to LucidREM's sticky, or Haykuro's or The Dude of Life's thread. Haykuro's and The Dude's ROMs are for cupcake, Lucid's is a mod of the normal JF builds. Flashing the ROM is just a matter of putting the downloaded file from one of those posts, renaming it update.zip, placing it in the topmost directory on your sdcard, and pressing alt-w and then alt-s at the recovery screen. My app is called "apps to sd" and is available on this forum or as a donation version for $1 on the market.
by the way, anyone else think it's odd that the percentages in the poll add up to 125%?

Market Force Closing

So ive been trying to get apps2sd and i have succesfully done it by using apps2sd2 from the market to partition my card and then i followed the steps by Mailman below and it worked..all my apps were in the sd etc with 73 MB free...but when i click on market...it gives me an option that there is no connection when in fact i do and 2 seconds after it showa the force close message.. anyone have any idea how to fix this?
I had the same issue, had to do a full data wipe to fix it.
well seems that a full data wipe fixes it, but then when i input the commands in the terminal emulator
lucid app
lucid data
lucid dalvik
so i can get everything to the sd card it starts doing the same thing again..any ideas what is causing it?
I'm unfamiliar with the method you're using to get your apps on your SD card - mine are running on the SD card also, but I used the good ol' symlink method to do so...
It would appear your marketplace can't access your apps, or, is being locked out of something - perhaps a permissions issue on your sd partition? I had that issue when I first set up mine. All the apps were copied over with the same user/group and the market place freaked out.
The only way I was able to fix it was to copy all my apps off the sd partition to my computer, do a full datawipe, nuke all my apps, and reinstall them.
I set up a shell script that took the contents of ~/apps/*.apk and sent each to adb install, on its own line, and automated the whole thing. Took about 3 minutes to reinstall my 80 or so apps, and it restored all the app permissions to what they were supposed to - market didn't have a problem afterwards.

i see what your saying. ill have to try that out, but now it seems that after i wiped my data and pressed home+back to reboot my phone it is stuck at the T mobile G1 screen and doesnt want to do anything at all anymore...it just got worse.any way to fix this? ove tried wiping again and i formatted my dscard so no update to reinstall..what should i do?
just wait... when you wipe under the new builds, it may take 10mins to boot for the first time.
also I don't know how it is possible to do app2sd with terminal emulator. when you rm dalvik-cache or app that program should crash before the shell script or command finish
I had this happen as well.. more than once.
And each time it was a result of moving the "data" over to the SD card.
I finally learned my lesson... and my phone is now solid.
Hi,
My experience on 5.02 h is that the data move does not work correctly also.
I have moved the :
apps
apps-private
davik-cache
without any problems.
85 apps installed and 61 megs free with this method.
Browser and market cache cleared 1st.
I found this to be an issue only when I had tried to make my EXT2 partition too big (Over 2GB). Exact same error, moving data to the SD, Market crash. The problem was tied to moving the data though.
I had the same problem. It apeard after I installed TA utility.
The problem is that Market is looking for it's cache directory and can't find it. In my case it's looking for it on the SDcard and I have to make the directory myself: /sdcard/cache/market.
If you have not attempted to move the Market cache to SD you might want to see if you have a /cache/market in your internal memory, and if not create it.
It should solve your problem. (worked for me)
im having the same problem too.. the Application section doesn't work for me, but im able to still go into the Game section. i tried adding a cache folder to the SD still doesnt work

Apps2SD with Fresh 0.7 rom + blue theme?

I have the 0.7 rom load with both patchs and the blue theme, I want to try out apps 2 SD i just didnt know the best route in doing so, for it to work correctly with your rom. If i use the format function in the recovery menue would it automatically save my apps on the SD and work properly or would i have to reinstall them?

Yea. Backup your sd card (it will get wiped). Boot in to recovery and create swap+ext2+fat32 and then convert ext2 to ext3 (all are options in the recovery menu). It will move everything for you.
Why don't you like apps 2 sd? I just figure if you have that you won't have worry about internal memory if you wanted to have a lot o

**My note about Apps2SD: I added support for it in this release of the rom because people who were using it in other roms that tried to install this rom were receiving errors. Here's my point of view on it.
I played with it for over 8 hours today between implementing it and then testing it to make sure this fix would work. I have personally come to not like apps2sd, but I am including it for those who use it.
The reason I don't like it is because it puts your phone at a huge risk of having problems once anything goes wrong. If you install a program that causes issues, a nandroid backup will not resolve the issue because the application is installed on your SD card not your phone. If your phone starts going crazy as reported here and here, then even just a restore possibly won't fix it. You might need to go as far as to wipe your SD card too. If you are lucky enough to have a restore fix your problems you will still need to reinstall every app, even if you didn't wipe your card. And on top of that when you try to reinstall any app it will think it's still installed, even though you restored your phone. But when you click "uninstall" it will just freeze half the time because there's nothing on the phone for it to actually install. I have also read many threads that say if you happen to boot the phone up without the SD card in then it will screw everything up.
So now maybe you are wondering why I would add Apps2SD support in this rom. In order for people who are currently using Apps2SD to upgrade to this rom I must support it or require them to do a hard reset before coming to fresh. Clearly I don't want you to have to reset so I have supported it. With that said: I personally recommend not using it. This rom will auto-use it if your SD card is formatted for it (fat32+ext2+swap partitions) but it won't use it if you are only partitioned as 1 fat32. My suggestion is to stick to the 1 partition and let your applications install on the phone. Linux is not like Windows in the sense that it will run the same whether you phone has 140 megs free of storage space or 10 megs free. So unless you plan on installing 100 apps, I don't see the practical purposes of using Apps2SD. But a lot of people like it.
Now with all of THAT said -- this rom officially has and supports Apps2SD. It is a program that I think has the possibility of being great, but has to work within the confines of the phone which means tricking Android in to thinking that the applications are installed on the phone when they aren't. That is what leads to all the problems mentioned above.

using apps2sd2 problems
I followed all the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5618439#post5618439 for apps2sd2 yet when I open the app, it STILL says Oops, you have to run through the tutorial to set it up. I've DONE THIS. I'm extermely frustrated. I have no idea what more to do. My sd card is partitioned correctly. I've run all the commands listed in that tutorial. PLS HELP! Also all my apps are showing in /system/sd/app AND data/app. Is this correct? Why won't Apps2sd2 work for me? I really need some troubleshooting help.
I have a rooted CMDA HTC Hero using the Fresh ROM. Also is there a way to still get Sprint TV using this ROM?
Fresh .7 doesn't support A2SD, only Fresh 1.0 & 1.1.

[Q] Unable to partuitionnate sd card Dexter 1.3

I have a problem, when I partitionnate my sd card with partition wizard in Dexter 1.3, partitionning have a problem and can't continue.
How to fix ?
Thank you
I use minitool partion wizard too. Make sure you make the partitions primary and not logical. Also as if you haven't already read this, make sure from left to right it is fat, ext2/3/4, swap. I am on Kahl's Epicsteel which is based off Dexter's.
Is the problem that the phone can't see the partition or that the wizard program can't finish it's job? Are you trying to use App2sd, Link2sd or native Froyo? If app2sd or Link2sd use Root Explorer and find folder sd-ext. Open that and put in a new folder either App (not Apps) or Link2sd, move all your apps to internal and reboot and viola, they populate into those folders.
If you are going to use native Froyo, and you sometime get a Unknown Error reason-18, you have to plug your phone into you computer and make sure hidden files can be seen. Go into the .androidsecure folder and delete the file named smdl2/tmp1.asec. It will fix that error. Known google Froyo glitch.

The problem is that wizard program crash and so can't finish it job.
EDIT : I restore stock 2.1 and know wizard crash at updating informations at 99%
I had the same problem but mine was because I had a bad usb connection. Sounds ghetto but maybe just tinker with your connection. If you are using the phone plugged in, maybe try a card reader or vice versa. I also start the program with the card already plugged in b/c for some reason it doesn't show up if program is running and then I plug in.
Another problem I had was that my computer wouldn't recognize my sdcard as a removable drive. If this is the case, go to control panel, admin, disk settings and your drive should pull up. if no drive letter is listed, right click on the drive and pick a letter (just not anything that is already taken by you main drive or CDrom.

The problem is that I partitionnated my sdcard few time before with the same computer so, it's not usb connection. More, I don't know if I can format my fat32 part because Fat32 work and I don't want to have no sd card and no openrecovery.
EDIT : Problem solved by unpluging usb cable at error and by restoring ext2 data with openrecovery.
I have another problem, do you know how to use link2sd on Dexter's ROM because I have bug after installing this (he make a script)
One of the things that I like about the Minitool Partition Wizard is that you can repartition your card w/o losing any date, unless you choose to fill the sectors. but if you can't get it working, that part doesn't matter.
Are you going to stay on 2.1 and run app2sd or going to go back to Dexter or Kahl's ROM? If going back to 2.2, the you can leave it all Fat32.
Android operates on the fat32 so if you want to just run it without the partitions, you can just leave it all at Fat32 and it will create an Androidsecure folder on your card. I used that for a time and downloaded an app from the market called Move2sd enabler which makes it so you can move almost any app to your card.
All else fails, maybe try to uninstall Wizard and reinstall.
Good luck. As long as I am logged on, I'll try to help, but kids are about to wake up for the day.

I am using App2sd though b/c I was having issues with Link2sd before and just got a bad taste in my mouth for it.
Don't forget to install Link2sd and then reboot before you start moving over files, otherwise it won't mount the partition.
Thank you, I will try when my phone will boot.
For khalpower's ROM, I tried but I dislikestock theme, I prefer stock 2.1 or Dexter's one.
Did you know how to change theme in khalpower's ROM ?
Go into the Themes forum and 3rdstring has put together some nice themes over there. I use Metamorh and Zipthemer to change my theme (both free and in market).

[Q] Clean Rom 5.0 and internal vs external SD card question

Hello all,
I have a VZW Galaxy S3 and am using Scott's CleanRom 5.0
I noticed yesterday that my internal card is 2gb from being full. My external SD is a 32gb and only has a few pictures and some music on it. So I have been wandering around the phone settings trying to figure out how to move my apps to the sd card and free up some space. Can anyone enlighten me?
Thanks in advance.

The only app that works is link2sd, on the market. But one draw back is you need to reconfig your external sdcard to do this. Reformat and create 2 partions on your sd card, first partition should be fat32, this where you keep your stuff (music/video/pics) and the second partition is for your apps. link2sd will move your app to the second partition on your sdcard and create a reference so your OS would know where to find it.
Note: If you already have stuff on your sdcard, you can keep them by resize the first partion then create the second partion. This way you still have your data intact.

I think you are better off moving data instead of the apps. You can get your music, images, and videos and free up a lot of space (Samsung camera can default to save on external card, 4.2 Canberra doesn't have that setting as far as i can tell). Advantage of this is that even if you brick / break / wipe your phone you can still retrieve your images and music. Pop the card in a new phone and everything is still there. More than that, have titanium backup on the external card and easily transfer non-system apps to the new phone.

Let me make sure I understand correctly. The app will guide you through the partitioning process or is this something I have to do independent from the app?
Thanks in advance.

First I guess I need to explain that I still use iTunes in conjunction with Tune Sync for my music so back up isn't an issue for music. My photos are uploaded to SmugMug so they too are backed up. It just seems that my data and apps are hogging the internal SD.
I have TB Pro installed but admittedly don't know much about it yet as I have converted from the Dark Side (IOS). So, how do I get it to do what I need? Perhaps there is a tutorial somewhere on YouTube I could look up.
EDIT: I found the setting in Camera storage but no option to change it. I just says "SD Card" I assume that is internal SD?

You have to do it manually. It's pretty simple, may take around 20min. Just download the "gparted" iso image, then use imgburn to burn this image on your cd, reboot with cd as default boot device instead of your harddisk, once you booted into gpart operating system, there will be a gui you could use to partion your sdcard, first resize your existing partion, then create a new one from the unallocate partion as ext4. Remember both partion have to be PRIMARY and set the ext4 to boot (once you create the ext4, just right click, select flag then select boot).

How to use link2sd.
click on the app you want to move then select "link to sd" button. Don't click on move app to sd, this is for the old GB rom only.

Thank you for all of this. I won't be able to do this until I return where I can burn the image. Looks fairly simple and I will give it a go when I return to work.
You could always plug your phone into your computer and drop and drag the files you want over to your external card.

I had wondered if I could do that without affecting anything. I'll give it a try.
Thanks
Your welcome.

You only can move video/music/pictures/backup files etc.. to your ext sdcard, but you cannot move your apps to external card. Your apps will stopped working. Link2sd allowed you to install all your downdoad apps to your SDcard (most of them, some apps required to stay internal, like widgets etc...)

I should have been more clear. What I suggested was just for backing up files in case the internal memory were to get wiped, example being if a new ROM was flashed with Odin, back to stock, etc. Thanks.

I did more research prior to moving them manually and found that what you just posted would have that affect. So, I still haven't done anything. My computer is old and not capable of burning a disc so I need to use a work computer but will have to do it after hours.
On a semi- related matter, since flashing CR 5.0 my settings for "Nearby Devices" is grayed out. I have been using this in conjunction with viewing photos on my TV. Any thoughts on why this might have happened? I re-flashed without success in gaining access.

I believe you need to install Allshare in order for this option to work.
Is there a way to download and install the Allshare app separately? I didn't choose it when doing the CR5.0 install. I looked on the playstore, but don't see it. I was going to re-install the ROM, but would rather just load the app if i could.
Only way I know is to flash ROM again. I don't use it. You don't have to wipe data just cache and dalvik.

Thanks for that information. I wonder if Allshare is available somewhere? Google is my friend...
This appears to be the Allshare app. It does everything the stock app did. I'll try it and report back.

EDIT: Nope, when opened it states: Allshare Framework not installed application will exit
Well, it was worth asking the question. I will be reflashing the ROM tonight. I just noticed a issue with what I believe would be the KindaCrap mods I installed. I removed the clock from the notification bar, and changed the battery to just a percentage, and the percentage was really slow while charging like it wasn't taking a charge. After rebooting I was near 60%, when it was showing me 20% before the reboot. I think a fresh install will be good.
