Gmail not syncing - Hero CDMA Themes and Apps

[skip this and go to post 2]
My Gmail wasn't syncing properly, so I did "clear data" for gmail and gmail storage. It runs through the Google Account Setup wizard when I start it back up, asks me for my username and password etc, but when I hit "sign in" it simply times out with a connection error. The EVDO icon doesn't illuminate to indicate that the phone is actually attempting to connect to anything.
I'm running MoDaCo's ROM.
What am I doing wrong? Does anyone have any other ideas?

Well i restored a Nandroid backup from before I erased the data. So now I just have a Gmail problem.
I'm getting mail, but it seems nothing I do on my phone is getting back to the server. I can't send messages. Messages I delete stay in my inbox on gmail.com.
Any ideas?

I just hit the same problem. I was trying out the modaco rom and I decided to restore my nandroid backup from before the rom and go back to the "stock" format. Ever since then things I delete/read on the phone do not get updated in gmail. I also can't send from the phone, no error message, just sticks on "Sending...".
Let me know if you have come up with a solution for this.

I spoke too soon! I went in and cleared the cache on gmail this did not fix it. I then rebooted the phone and all is well again (at least for now). Maybe I just had not rebooted once I did the restore?

I fixed mine by changing my gmail password on the server. The phone asked me for updated login info and it worked after that.
I actually changed my password on the server, waited for the phone to ask for new login info, then changed it back on the server and gave the phone my old password again.

Gmail Issue: Waiting For Sync

Everything was working good until a few days ago. Now the Gmail app states that is waiting for sync. Your email will appear shortly..
And it never does. Ive tried turning off and back on the auto sync and tried to manually sync but I get an error message that says
Sorry!
The process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
Does anyone have an idea on how I can get it up and running again? Thanks.
I'm on JF's RC33
Ok, I figured it out. I went into settings and Gmail Storage and cleared out the data. Then I went back into gmail and entered my account information again and it seems to be syncing now. Really weird, I dont know how it just stopped working. Anyway, hope this helps someone in the future.
Gmail
Dont know if you have docs to go. but when i uninstalled docs to go gmail started working again for me. Now i reinstalled docs to go and havent had any problems yet.
Reinstall any apps you've been using to send attachments (eg. Note Everything, Doodleroid etc.), clear out your gmail and gmail storage data, and it should work.
Try to avoid sending multiple attachments at once: for example if you send one and it 'stalls' and you try to send it again, it could do this to your gmail.
I also had this issue. I resolved this issue by turning sync back on. Once I enabled sync, I was able to get right into my gmail account.
Similar problem here
(Using CM 5.0.8 final on my original black G1)
I can manually sync with the server to get email, but syncing seems to happen maybe once a day for the past week or so. It used to happen so frequently that i'd see email on my phone before i'd see it in my web browser if i was at a computer.
Haven't changed anything recently... Tried rebooting the phone of course.
Can't find the tool for clearing out gmail on my phone, so i haven't tried that.
any other theories?
thanks
Edit: Turned off sync everywhere and rebooted. Got stuck in a boot loop.
Used amon ra recovery console to wipe dalvik cache
Boot loop is fixed
Refresh problem seems fixed too.
yay?

Mods, can you close threads that had no activity for a year? (close threads had no activity on the thread for a year or more.)

G1 contacts

Hi,
I did an update and the G1 asked me something about contacts and by mistake I clicked on delete. So my online contacts at gmail GONE but the contacts on my G1 is still exist.
How can I sync it to the live?
wow !
You should go to settings, then to data synchronization and then click on the gmail option and sync it there. Then check online to see if it updated. If not try doing the sync again from your phone while logged out of gmail on your cpu. Idk if resetting the phone would be a good idea because the contacts arent stored in the phone, and if you say its empty online, then the phone would have nothing to pull to it. Hope this helps : )
problem in sync contact
I got into data sync and I saw it says under the contacts "sync is currently experiencing problems. it will be bacl shortly"
ha?!
Ok
This happened to me b4.... heres what you do
go to the market and download an app that backs up your contacts.
back up your contacts.
Then boot into recovery mode.
Alt-w to wipe the cache etc.. ( fyi your apps, texts, settings will be cleared)
assuming you still have the update.zip on your sdcard, hit alt+s to start the update all over again.
Before you do the update, reboot the phone and see if the wipe fixed the problem. if it didnt, then reapply the update. And be careful when your prompted for syncing options.
Ill watch the thread for any further questions
SOLVED!
This is what I did:
I entered "manage applications" and deleted all my contacts. Then I did sync and it worked.
Then I used my backup from vcard IO application and did sync again and it worked.
From what I read the problem cause by mybackup pro. That's it.
Thanks
: ) ! Ok cool, glad you didnt have to go through all the stuff i posted above. I think those contact backup programs cause alot of trouble. I thought the whole purpose of google sync was to have a backup of you contact info anyway? lol glad you fixed it anyway

help :[ [rom problem]

I decided to try and change the rom on my lg optimus v for virgin mobile. I dl'd gapps-gb-20110325-signed.zip (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=962862 )to my pc, and turned on usb mass storage. i went to f:/download/root and put the file in there. Then opened it in root manager clicked install from root sd card, and installed the rom.
now to the probelm
when it turned back on it looks nothing like the rom, just my default rom but without any apps but the super basic apps for the phone (no junkware either) and superuser. no marketplace or rom manager.
i tried going to settings/accounts & sync settings and adding my account. then it says add an exchange account. i put my gmail email in and then it goes to server settings for my email... its all allready filled out so i just hit next and then it says setup cannot finish, unable to open connection to server.
if someone could help me through this or at least try i would really appreaciate it, my phones bascially useless untill then.
Well, gmail is not an "Exchange Account"...
When you setup your accounts, use your Gmail account info with Gmail...
well, i dont know what account to put in.. and i dont know if i really screwed my phone up. what is an exchange account then? that gmail account is what i had everything linked to (contatcts etc)

Click to collapse
Exchange is a Windows based corporate mail setver.
You dont need to setup an exchange account on your phone for it to work.
If you did a factory reset you should be prompted to enter your gmail info before anything else.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
ya after it was all ****ed up, i tired to do a factory reset. and im now stuck in clockwork recovery mod. I tried to go to backup/recovery and install the backup i made before i tried to flash my os, let it do its thing, then after it installed, it went right back to clockwork. :[
you never realized how terrible it is to not have a phone untill it happens...
can anyone direct me to a next step i need to take?

[Q] GMail not syncing?

Has anyone noticed that what they do within the Gmail app on the Xoom isn't syncing with your desktop machine?
In other words - when I read or delete or change labels on an email in the Gmail app, I don't see the changes reflected if I go to my Gmail on my laptop. (They are still sitting in my inbox, unread).
Go into settings/applications /manage applications/all applications. Open Gmail and "clear cache ", them "clear data "
Ignore the warnings. Back to home page and open Gmail. You should be good to go.
That worked!
Thanks!
Sync hangs
I'm not sure if this is the exact same problem but I tried to send some large attachments recently and the sync seemed to hang all night. It would not send the email I originally was going to send plus three other I did afterwards before I noticed the issue. I was more concerned with sending these emails then checking to see if the sync error was affecting the receive mail process. Rebooting did not help so I ended up deleting the account and adding it back again. It took a while to do the normal initial syn but it seemed to clear the problem.
A week later I had the same issue although this time I noticed right away (instead of the next morning like before). I did a search and found someone advising to go into the Androids Setting then manage apps and then Gmail. To hit clear data and click
ck OK to the warning that tells you that all data, including any mail, will be deleted. I was not worried about the outgoing mail I was trying to send as I could easily redo it. This did work Ase I went into Gmail and it had to sync up withe servers but everything was back. The weird thing is that my message was sent and no longer under Outbox marked as "being sent". So either it sent it this time but was not showing this or it sent it real quick before I cleared data.
Either way it's fixed for now but who knows if it will happen again soon.We shall see.

Can't Compose or Reply to email in Email app

Help!
I have only one email account setup on my Note. It is an Exchange Activesync account that I access using Email (not Gmail). I can go into Email and read my messages. New ones show up just fine. But, if I try to create a new email to send (via the Compose button or by opening an existing one and tapping the Reply icon) the app pauses for a couple of seconds and then displays the message "Unfortunately, Email has stopped" and leaves me back at the Home screen.
Steps I have taken so far:
- Went into Settings/Accounts and removed the Exchange account.
- Went into Settings/Apps and picked Email and did Clear Cache and Clear Data.
- Rebooted into Recovery and did wipe cache and wipe Dalvik.
- Booted back up and re-created the Exchange account. Email started syncing down from the server immediately. But, when I try to Reply, I still get the same error.
(which I re-did all right in a row after first trying some portions of those steps)
Other things I noticed:
- each time I try to create an email (whether it's by tapping the compose icon, the Reply icon, or by opening a picture in Gallery and doing Share via Email), the message gets created in my Drafts folder. If it's a Reply or a Share, the message shows the correct Subject line in Drafts. But, if I try to open the message from the Drafts folder, I get the same error.
I am running the ELGB firmware.
I am rooted using zedomax's CWM (Easy Method 2) procedure.
This problem could have been occuring since I did the root 2 days ago. I'm not sure. I didn't notice it until today when I attempted to email an XLS file that I signed using Docusign Ink.
I am running a Ti Backup now and preparing to do a factory reset. But, if anybody can save me from that pain, I would surely appreciate it!
Just for the record, I got it working. Fortunately, after I installed CWM on Tuesday, I did a nandroid backup.
Tonight, I tried formatting system and cache and then using CWM to do an Advanced Restore of system and that did not fix it.
So, I did a factory reset then restored the full backup, then reapplied the root patch, and my email was back to working. Yay! Then I used Titanium to restore my apps that I had installed since the nandroid and now I'm almost completely back to where I was before Email went out to lunch.
I won't take credit for this but it work for me.
Make sure Force GPU rendering is turned off in developer options.
Good luck!
Dang! I have read about that causing weird problems. And I did turn that on yesterday! Wish I would have thought to try that before I did all that other stuff!
