Google Navigation on Hero? - Hero CDMA Themes and Apps

Look like its working on the Dream. We need this too!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=582953

That'd b awesome!!!

It looks like someone already accomplished this on their hero. From the looks of it, though, there appear to be numerous users claiming that it renders their phone virtually useless after just a couple hours.

Damn, too bad. I really would like this app!

WTF??? Bricked? You got a link to this discussion?

Yeah. I would like to at least try it. And I find it hard to believe it would actually brick it. The recovery image would still be available to reflash it. I assume what is meant is that there is a memory leak or something that forces you to restart every couple of hours.

[ROM] Gumbo 2.1

Here's the link, I'm sure he will post it here a little later but for those who can't wait

You just know this sub forum is BURNING HOT right now when this thread has 79 views in 12 minutes LOL
Yup, 1 minute from downloading left. LOL, exciting stuff happening all over XDA today.
i really wish i wasn't so stubborn on waiting for camera and mms.
I am still waiting too.... but its ok, I am happy trying them out and seeing where we are at. I will be more than happy whenever it happens
2.1 uh oh
Tehe, thus far I've held off on the 2.1 builds because stuff hasn't been working, I guess since I'm backing up my device and switching ROM builds today anyway I'll have to just accidentally pop this on there and see what happens :-D
Edit: Was unable to get the Market to work at all. No FC message, just fails to start.
Doesnt have all market apps
Olive juice gbhil!!!
Just because I'm straight and don't feel like saying "I love you." I guess you could substitute "Alligator food" in there too.
Thanks for the hard work!

Can anyone confirm if the Verizon FIOS Mobile Remote app is or isn't available in the Market with this ROM?
Wow, this ROM FREAKING FLIES.
The pinch to zoom on the home screen is blazing fast. I am extremely impressed. 2.1 on our devices is going to be awesome. Thanks again for your hard work Gbhil!!!!
**Edit**
Location, like all other 2.1 ROMs I've tried though, is off. It initially said I was in Kansas City, which is right, but it quickly changed to "Washington" which is what the other roms said, which DEFINITELY isn't right
Could someone who has run both this one an flipz new release compare the two? I'd really like to know how they differ if they do at all. Thanks in advance

Oh trust me I know that reading is a good thing, I'm not that big of a n00b lol, but I just wanted some first hand experiences like how the ROMS feel, not necessarily what's in them
To add to my previous post, the location services are working fine, it just seems (like in other 2.1 roms) that the location noted in the HTC home screen clock is what isn't working properly.
I get the correct location returned in one of my test apps, and see myself fine in the Google maps v4, so I dunno...maybe there's something missing with the HTC Location Services apk?
Oh yeah, and SetCPU is awesome on this rom too
would i have to wipe this coming from fresh rom??
i had force close on "3g Update"?!?!
I just noticed: txt messages after daylight savings got a bit screwy for some people, where messages would be stamped an hour earlier and be out of order. Now Ive sent and recieved a few txts and they are showing the correct order and timestamps.
Anyone else?

Galaxy S Road SMS KB

OMG, I saw this video on that new app for the Galaxy S.
Is there a way to port it to the EVO?
Road SMS KB App on Galaxy S
saw it too, pretty sweet im def interested
Now thats an Interesting feature....
In for this.
That is brilliant.
That is sweet!!!
guessing its just goinna be an apk, direct install, but you never know..
that is sweet, we will have it before you know it. it will just be an apk I assume
Better yet, can we get it as a live wallpaper?
that app is cool. such a simple yet brilliant idea.
I like and wouldn't mind having it on our phone. BUT, when I text, I don't hold my phone in front of me. I usually have it down a bit lol. None the less I wouldn't mind seeing it on our phone
is ther ea keyboard like that in the market with just clear buttons, I would love to have that.
This is gonna drain battery like crazy, isn't it?

Yes. Yes it is. My camera i by far the biggest drain on the battery (obviously only when it is used).

You'd have to get a second battery just to get through the day.
Pretty [email protected] cool feature if you ask me.
Hopefully this will reduce the number of wrecks-while-texting, but then again I think to myself; "How many people will actually own this phone AND use this feature"

I think its meant to be used while driving so you can hold the phone up and still keep an eye on the road. Thats the only time that I'd ever use it. I dont text and drive often....but it sure would be helpful those times that I do it.
I'd be safer if I just called them though, LOL

Samsung clarified that it is for pedestrians. Could you imagine the **** storm if they were encouraging driving and texting in any way?
Awesome!
Wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of some jerk that hit my car because he thought he could see the road in front of him using the Road SMS app lol
Unfortunately something tells me that what was once thought to be a good idea on Samsung's part, will eventually lead to lawsuits because of ignorant people

dual screen android

thought i would share this link with you all...i thought it was interesting to see where we are heading for the future! how long till we have DS Emulator on the Market?
http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2011/02/kyocera-echo/
Thank bro...

Nice..
I think that this could also be done now manually eg. by installing another chrooted OS (Debian) and configuring Xorg to work correctly with the external screen. Yes, it is complicated and unseen problems will probably arise.
IMO that looks like a train wreck. A couple of beers later, snap! You now have two phones.

Yeah, I don't think it will go anywhere either. I'm sure someone will do something cool to it though. I remember being on Engadget during the press conference waiting for that dumb David Blaine stunt to get over with.

Yea I heard about the David Blaine thing; kinda stupid imo.
However, I don't really like the design of the phone, not really pleasing to look at; that and tthe fact that the form factor itself might actually take away from the speed you can do most things.

Technically, we already have a very early Prototype DS emulator on the market.
Just search up Tiger Lab Nintendo DS on Google
{I would provide the URL link but as the website says I'm still a n00b and unable to post weblinks}
I personally haven't tried out the emulator, but it definately shows promise.
nice, finally effective multi tasking phone
That dual screen phone is pretty darn ugly. I don't think I'd carry a dual screen phone... definitely not one with those specs. It's too thick and too big without the good specs it would need.

Ya know it wouldn't be bad to use this for the sim unlock, already aside for the s-off, it did take me less time with visionary also, like 2 mins this is taking like 5 and only to say, you can give any commands regardless but how do you know it wasn't pushed by adb or something? Need verify then profit, looks simple enough. And dev never posted step to step directions despite a video just briefly explaining
i mean what if someone was deaf or derp? you think they're going to understand the video?

I'll look at it. I've been trying to build a one click root for 3 weeks now, and im not sure if its actually possible with the tools we currently have available.
edit: Yeah, he got exactly where i did, only i decided it was pointless to release this. It just pushes the needed files and then you have to run everything as you normally would through the terminal emulator. makes pushing the files easier if you dont know what needs to go where, buts thats about it.
This is not a new way to root but a way for people that cant follow instructions very well way to root. This is using the methods found here in the forum allready like gfree but it has packaged everything together and he has written a script to execute some of the steps and to install things where they need to be. I am surprised that this hasn't been done sooner by someone. I am already rooted so I cant test it out, but I did look it over and it all looks great. I am curious to see the feedback. I didn't have a problem using the other methods and could do them just as easy as this is but I do have a little more experiance than alot of people that are trying to root their phone.

Yeah that where i ended up. I wasn't happy with it since you still needed to manually do everything in the term emulator, which is really the only tedious part of rooting. Everything else is simple. To use this you need to setup adb, but by itself is enough instruction to learn how to copy the needed files to the specified location. could still be helpful, and it definitely wont cause any more issues than the normal root procedure.
Working on the oneclick, i got to the point where i could root my phone in about 30 seconds longer than it takes to reboot twice, and this might take longer for me. lol.
this is for people who don't know how to read and follow simple instruction and IMHO, and i know some will share this opinion.
If you cannot read and follow SIMPLE instructions you shouldn't root your phone.

I'd lay down my phone in a bet that more Android phones have been truly bricked by ignorance more than anything else. I also wonder how many people that have thought they've "bricked" their phones really haven't but because they do not want to take the time to learn and and get out of the boot loop or a flash stuff via fastboot.

Actually he included the adb files in his zip so it sets it up so his script can do the file transfer.
I do completely agree though that if people just learned, read and searched a little bit more about Android and their phone, they would be alot better off and have less problems.
Still need drivers installed. could be a point of failure for people unwilling to do it on their own.

The Visionary/gfree method takes no more than 5 minutes if you include the reboots and checking to make sure it worked.

[Q] - Chandroid

Anyone having huge issues with this program, as soon as it pulls data it slows to a crawl and pops up with force close the moment it's caught up. This is the only program I have come across so far that runs like this. Anyone else having issues?
I just use the browser to lurk, no need to use chandroid which IMO does way worse than any full screen browser since you have a lot more real estate than a phone.
I like using it since I can't find anyway to download all the images from inside the posts, which chandroid will do for you. Unless you got a way to do it I don't know of?
