Speed Dial--Erase Sprint Customer Service - Hero CDMA Themes and Apps

Ah root, how I love thee. I know that I can now finally change #2 from Customer Service, but alas my linux skills are whoafully subpar. Could one here that has skills much more advanced than mine please point me in the direction of changing the useless, unchangeable, speed dial for a 2 number button press?
many thanks

Let me guess, your wife has been on speed dial 2 for 10 years and you won't settle for putting her on 3?

So if the wife goes to #3, where does the girlfriend go...4???
crazy talk
in all seriousness beyond just how right you were, I actually hate the fact that Sprint is trying to tell me I can't put whomever I want in that slot...to hell with them

LOL I thought this was the same guy to but I am guess its not.

LOL...awesome

Has anyone figured out how to change the 1 and 2 slot yet? Is speed dial part of the phone.apk, therefore locked in the resources.arsc and unchangeable?

i am also looking for this resolution ...

ive had this question posted so long ago its buried way back there somewhere.... no answers to it

[GUIDE - YMMV] Connect to 4G sooner & stay on longer

Swap a couple words, and that title could be a Viagra commercial
Anyways, looking at the changes we made to reconnect to 4G faster, these values should make us connect sooner, and drop the connection later. Should be good for fringe areas. I'll describe every change and explain what they do, so bear with me:
NOTE: All these changes will be made in the EPST menu. To get there, dial ##DATA# and choose edit mode. You'll have to enter your MSL. Then choose WiMax in the menu. Don't change anything except what I tell you, because you'll eff something up most likely. If this doesn't work for you, I've also mentioned the defaults so you can go back.
WiMAX_Entry_RX(RSSI)(dBm) - Default is -89. This is the minimum signal it has to be picking up to connect. I'm not sure what the best value here is, but the lower the number, the quicker the connect, since it will connect to a weaker signal. You'll have to experiment some with this, I recommend trying about -95 to -100 first. If it's unstable, raise the value closer to -89.
WiMAX_Entry_CINR(dB) - Default is 4. This is the Carrier to Interface Noise Ratio. The higher it is, the clearer the connection has to be to connect. Change it to 3. You may be able to push it all the way down to 2, but that is probably pushing it. EDIT: Sorry, didn't realize you couldn't set this without it being 4 or higher. You can still pick it up with a weaker signal by changing the entry RSSI, but you still have to have a signal without much interference. In reality, that shouldn't matter too much though
WiMAX_Exit_CINR(dB) - Default is 2. See the entry CINR value for an explanation of it. If the signal degrades to a CINR of 2, it will drop the connection. Change this to 1. This should let you stay connected longer. If you run into problems with staying connected but having an unreliable connection, change it back to 2.
WiMAX_Exit_Delay(s) - The default is 2. Since it's measured in seconds, that means if the CINR drops to 2 or below for 2 seconds, it will drop the connection. Raise it to 5. That should be enough to cover just a random drop in signal that will pick back up right away. That way you don't drop connection if you drive under a bridge or something (I'm rocking mine at 15s here, but it'll take any value up to 600 seconds, which is 10 minutes!)
That should be it. I think I explained everything good enough. Let me know if you have any questions & I'll edit the OP. None of these should harm your device, but as usual heres the disclaimer: If you screw up and blame me, I will point and laugh.
I'm not in 4G ATM so I can't test it, but all the principles check out in theory. The only one that cause any 4G instability (ie having signal but not being able to transfer data) is the exit CINR. A value of 1 may be too low to transfer data, but I'm not sure. If you have that issue, just raise it back to 2. The rest will just make it pick up signal sooner.
Let me know how it works
EDIT: Also, if you follow this guide it'll let you reconnect sooner if you for some reason disconnect randomly. Plus it'll let you connect as soon as it picks up signal too, not 5 minutes after you first pick it up!
I've had people report to me on Twitter that this DRASTICALLY improves things for them. @cynicaloptimist said he used to get 4G a half mile from is house, and now he can get it 150 feet away. It may not seem like a lot, but a half mile more coverage is a helluva lot more when a tower (4G towers may vary, CDMA/EvDo figures here) may cover 10-12 miles.
Great work man, i just wish i could use it. Damn you Sprint for not having 4G in Long Island New York yet! All the hype for this phone and its flagship feature, 4G when you buy it and you find out, you cant even use it... smh.
That works great! Also, has anyone found out why it keeps searching for 4G when we turn it off? ALL evos are affected. Do a Logcat after you turn 4g off and watch it go crazy every 2 seconds. I think this issue has been seriously overlooked.

Yeah I've noticed that but I have no idea what may be causing it. I'll look into it, but the gist of it is, it seems to be looking for the 4G daemon running on the device, but it's been shut down already. Could be wrong tho.

The acceptable range of values for the Evo is 4-10. The Evo just wont let me set it lower.
This was just what I was looking for, screwed up my epst.apk though so I hope I can just swap it back in with adb.
the "WiMAX_Entry_CINR(dB)" does not allow me to enter a value of 3. It says it's restricted values are between 4 - 10.
Edit: pwabbit also posted it. I guess I can confirm that he's not the only one unable to change that value.

Run logcat while inputing the code. You will likely see msgs that indicate the phone is trying to load a number of java classes and a reason for the failure. When I had this problem it was because I had a corrupted hosts file and the phone was failing to resolve th name localhost which is the name used to call the java classes needed to load the tool.

Awesome speeds. The network has just been live here in STL for about a month, started off never breaking 2.5Mbps. Now they've improved it quite a bit coverage wise & I get ~5mbps going 75MPH down I-55. I imagine it'd be better stationary.
And thats really weird. What ROM are you running? Are you using the stock HTC dialer? It should definitely be ##data# unless you're not on the HTC dialer. AAMOF it won't even let you enter the second one, as soon as you type the first it goes straight into EPST.
Lol, yeah the 4th # is silent.

Yeah crazy speeds, i took a dump on myself when i hit that marker. I also have a head set plugged in with it snipped to half a inch of wire. For some odd reason i broke the barrier. With it plugged in. I think the 4g antenna is a small one compaired to the usb one. Iam using damage control 3.2.3 with the toast fps kernel and stock dialer. Great battery with dc profile set to performance and underclocked to 806 using the juice control not setcpu. When u got dc set to performance means its allowing more threads in the cpu not making it set to a full load. Just sayin.

Htc inspire Root?

Figured out the captivate really fast and back to htc after a long time. Has root access been figured out yet? and if it has could someone point me in the direction?
I really am not being crappy with this comment so please dont take it that way but....
have you read the Dev threads yet?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352
yeah I read it. I might wait until an easier way of rooting comes along. I've borked many an htc in the past and frankly I paid way too much for this beauty to wreck after one day.
Might be a month or so for the easier way, i did mine last night, not hard at all for me.
I don't have this phone yet, but just looking at the directions, it's not hard at all. Maybe just time consuming, if that.
I started doing it and going to take my time. I had to reinstall sdk because I formatted my laptop last night and started creating the gold card. ATT really keeps dropping the ball on these damn phones. When are they going to learn that the iphone is not king?
The only thing Im not sure of is the rom to get sound back. How is it as far as being like the original minus the bloat?
Is this a safe rooting and s-off method? are there any bugs reported?
Is there anyone in the Apple valley, hesperia, or victorville California area who can help me out by any chance? Get back to me please [email protected] thanks

Getting ready to sell Triumph

As many others have been doing lately, I also am getting ready to sell my Triumph and leave VM. In my case, I'm getting the Galaxy Note (just ordered it) and will be using it on Straight Talk. I have my phone on me 24/7 and just got tired of not having a completely reliable phone/service. I've really enjoyed being a part of this community and have appreciated all the work the devs put in. Wish I could have contributed more, but with every thing I've learned in my Android/rooting experience with the OV and MT I was able to give some little tips here and there, which I hope were helpful.
As a heads up, when I get around to it, once I get my Note all set up and play around with it to make sure it's all working right, I'll be posting this in the classifieds to give you guys first dibs on it before I put it on Craigslist or eBay, if you're looking to buy an extra or upgrade, along with a summary of the issues it has (fortunately nothing too major, pretty much just the basic QC issues everyone's had.)
I wish you all well as you continue on with VM and the Triumph, and I'll miss being a part of it.
I'm actually selling my triumph as well. Going to straight talk but getting the iphone. I know iphone dont kill me lol.

Its not the best. If you spend some time reading reviews and checking out the forums here and on AndroidForums (its more active over there) you'll see all the issues people have had with it. I upgraded to it from my OV and since I was willing to overlook the minor issues I had with it I loved it but the unreliability of the touchscreen has driven me crazy lately. It definitely runs 100% better with cm7, although froyo is better for gaming and has HDMI. I'd say it really depends on your usage. If you're not on it 24/7 like me and can overlook the minor issues its great, otherwise I'd say to stay away. I hate saying that knowing I'll be selling it soon, but I can't in good conscience say otherwise

I have had the phone for about 7 months now and I am still happy with it. Of course coming from a Blackberry I should be, but with the amount of customization and development available for this phone, you can fix ALMOST all the bugs or glitches that most ppl were complaining about on Froyo.
Over at androidforums, ziggy46 and some others are almost finished with a gingerbread rom that has HDMI working on it. All they need fixed is 3G/Data & and SMS/MMS which, thanks to our devs, we have had really good luck at getting to work on so many other roms.
On top of that, we are beginning to have new ICS roms popping up. This phone is far from dead as some would think.
I am too selling the phone and moving to another carrier. What will VM do to the phone after the different provider will port the number? Will I need to do anything before I sell? I reverted to stock, but CWM is still there, will the buyer be able to activate it?
Thank you, it's been pleasure to be a part of CM7 triumph development.

It's pretty simple. You just buy the phone (Amazon, Ebay, or Expansys USA would be some good places to look), then go to straighttalksim.com and buy the $15 Sim card along with their monthly service, pop the Sim card in, put in the apn settings, and you're good to go. You'd do basically the same thing for the iPhone. There's a thread here with a lot of info if you have time to red through it: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1753835 I had no problems setting mine up, so if you decide to go that route and have any questions feel free to pm me.

Straight Talk's BYOP program uses ATT or tmo, depending on which Sim you order. With either of those devices, you'd wanna choose the ATT Sim, as they would only get edge speeds on tmo. If you had a pentaband device or one designed to utilize tmo's 3g you'd choose the tmo Sim.

Gentlemen and ladies, just wanted to thank everyone here for helping me make my TB last as long as it did. I had posted many a noob question and everyone was very helpful in answering those goofy questions. I have migrated to the 8X, and will miss seeing all the stuff everyone keeps coming up with!
Just wanted to thank everyone who lended a helping hand!

I can't understand why people are jumping ship, the Thunderbolt is a GREAT phone and, with the right ROM is all anyone would ever need!
I'm sticking with it for two reasons:
1. because it's so perfect that nobody could ever wish for a better phone and
2. because UPS didn't deliver my Galaxy SIII today. It should be here tomorrow.

Thank you,
Even though I jumped ship to a DNA, my use of the Thunderbolt is not over. It now serves as my music player and as a GPS unit. It is now more convenient since having 1 phone and using it for GPS, it would be a pain when you get a phone call and then you end up lost or whatever. Now I can answer my calls and speak my texts as I'm driving with my DNA while still being able to navigate. So for me, my Thunderbolt is still very much active.

Yea, like I said, my biggest issue is actually the camera button, I give it a love tap everytime I grab the phone. Thankfully its not an instant on, otherwise that would be a problem.
Its good to see though, that even with this minor (I believe its a minor) issue, its still a great phone. There is no way you can make the location of the buttons perfect for everyone since were all built with different fingers and hands.
And I didn't keep the TB, sold it back to Verizon for 33 bucks, and with the 8X on sale for 99, its nice to only pay 66 bucks for an over 500 dollor phone!
AND I think I FINALLY have the start screen where I want it. Now just have to figure out how to reduce the size of all my songs. With all the songs on, I maxed out the memory. Surprising, its still wicked fast with only 30mb free! WoopWoop!

Has anyone ever paid Samsung to repair a Hard Bricked Infuse?

If so, do you have any idea how much it will cost? The phone was rooted so I'm fairly certain it's not covered by any warranty.
before you do anything of that nature, what is going on, please explain what happened in as much detail as possible, screenshots would be very helpful. i have"bricked" my infuse countless times, and i've still got it running and working great right now, never had to pay for anyone to fix it or anything, as far as i can tell the infuse is pretty much unbrickable.. so if you would like i would like to try and help you out so you may not have to pay to fix something that may not be broke

Just wanted to update everyone here. I was very honest and upfront with the woman I started my trouble ticket with and told her right from the start that I had rooted my phone and caused my own problems. Well I got an email today from Samsung stating that my phone had been re-flashed and was being shipped back to me today by UPS. All I paid for this service was $2.46 for a box and shipping materials at my local UPS outlet. There was no charge for re-flash or shipping! I will always buy Samsung!!!!! :good:
Now to decide what to do since I now have two working Samsung phones on Straight Talk. LOL! Should I reactivate the infuse with it's currently inactive Straight Talk sim card or just use it for my Google Voice phone number and keep my new phone for network calls...
thats great, really surprised samsung didnt make you pay...
I'm surprised also... quite a deal.
How long from when you sent it out until when you got it back? (just curious).

I haven't actually gotten it back yet. I shipped it out on Monday, They got it on Wednesday and Thursday I got the email saying it was shipped back in my direction. I expect it by Saturday at this rate! Also, I called Straight Talk and apparently I can reactivate my Straight Talk SIM card in it with no extra charge since activated a replacement phone before sending it off and I pay for the unlimited plan. All I'll need is a new number for it since the replacement phone has my existing number and I'll have two working Samsung phones for the price of one phone plan. (I still think the Straight Talk representative was full of caca in that regards. LOL! I'll believe it when I see it!) :silly: Life can NOT be that good or I've just entered the Twilight Zone!
Congratulations man.
Btw it's almost impossible to hard brick lol.
I saw your picture of it and it wasn't hard bricked. Either way it's good their fixing it. Consider yourself very lucky. They usually won't fix that.
You take responsibility when you flash.

Yeah well I wasn't able to figure it out and I felt safer sending it to someone who knew what they were doing. My grasp of tech these days is somewhat impaired by meds that keep me from thinking as clearly as I used to. :silly:

Well in that case I would suggest you stick with the stock ROM from now on. If you are not willing to try to bring it back from an Oh Sh1t! you don't need to be playing with custom ROM's or other mods.

Never said I wasn't willing to try! I said I didn't feel up to the challenge. There's a big difference there. I don't however have any plans to re-root it for now. Maybe if, or when my brain isn't so scrambled by my current medical situation..... Sometimes, the smartest thing a person can do is recognize their own limitations.

Very true words
Thanks to op. As a result of this thread, we all learned another option for recovering from inevitable (if you flash) soft brick. It's probably not the first option for most, but it certainly may be helpful to know there's a backup plan if you just can't get your computer to cooperate with heimdal/odin

Glad I could help! :silly: And really upfront honesty when talking to the person who's creating your trouble ticket with humility and self effacing deprecation is recommended! I was a twat for breaking my warranty and I admitted it and they fixed it. Even if I had had to pay a little for the repairs, it would have been worth it! I have my better camera (With an actual Flash) and GPS device back now! FYI - In case anyone is wondering about the Straight Talk Samsung Galaxy Centura camera, it is only 3 Mega Pixels and has no flash!

I would like to apologize for that response. There are many more people on here more deserving of that type pop off if one must have them.
If you were having a good day I would highly recommend Zen's [GBRUCLB3] []>>>>> r.e.v.e.n.a.n.t <<<<< First Edition - 2013.04.30OM][
The only thing required to flash it would be to flash one of Zen's rooted kernel with cwm red recovery using either Odin or One of Qkster's Heimdall one clicks http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23118162&postcount=3
