[UPG][V.1]ELF USPL - CID Unlock & flash *ANY* rom to your device[ONLINE] - Touch GSM ROM Development

This is a patched SPL for HTC Elf devices (HTC Touch / HTC P3450 / Dopod S1, o2 Nova, etc...).
This SPL is based on original Elf 1.11 SPL but includes 3 patches:
g_cKeyCardSecurityLevel = 0 (set 32)
Does not check Model ID
Does not check signature*
(*) code must be formally signed i.e. contain properly-formated signatures on their places, however no checking are performed against them.
This means you can flash ANY ROM to your Elf after flashing USPL on it, no need to pay for CID unlock anymore!
Disclaimer:
This is free to use but at your own risk, I take no responsibility for any conflict, fault, or damage caused to your phone by this unlocking procedure. No warranties of any kind are given. Any commercial usage prohibited.
Instructions:
1. Unzip
2. Connect your phone to computer, make sure activesync is enabled (green icon)
3. Run elf-uspl.exe on your computer and follow instructions on screen:
Code:
*************************************************************
Please make sure Activesync is enabled (green icon in systray)
and hit ENTER to start...
STEP 1/3......50%......75%....100%
The next step will load a patched bootloader (SPL) on your device
it will make your device temporary SuperCID (seclevel=0), and will
avoid modelID and signature checking when flashing NBH files.
Hit ENTER to continue...
STEP 2/3.....15%.....25%...50%...75%.....100%
Phone screen should now be blank and the activesync icon gray
if not, the loading procedure has failed and you'll have to repeat again.
If all was OK hit ENTER and the standard "PDA Phone ROM Update Utility"
window will start, allowing you to flash patched SPL on your device.
Hit CTRL+C to Cancel or ENTER to continue...
Follow the steps on the wizard to flash the patched SPL, when this
step completes your device will reboot.
STEP 3/3 - Launching RUU, please wait...
Process is finished, congratulations!
If you find it useful don't forget to donate :)
*************************************************************
(c)2007 pof - XDA Developers
Hit ENTER to quit.
Update:
Some ROMs (specially O2 Nova) don't allow to run unsigned applications by default and some people have reported difficulties installing USPL. If you see a popup asking to run unsigned code, you need to rapi-unlock your phone manually, to do this download enable-rapi.zip and follow the instructions inside the file prior to installing USPL.
Notes:
1. I have only tested under XP, people says it works on Vista too.
2. Unzip the file, do not run it on the zipped folder. (Note: Better to unzip in c:\ folder with no spaces on the name).
3. This will only CID unlock your device, not SIM unlock.
4. On some devices STEP 2 fails the first time, just hit CTRL+C, softreset your device and start over again.
5. To create NBH files for Elf you should use HTC Rom Tool by Dark Simpson, because "nbhgen" doesn't create proper NBH files for elf.
6. You can use Artemis splash screen tool by jcaron safely on the Elf, the Artemis RUU is compatible with Elf-USPL and both devices have same splash screen format.
7. After flashing a full ROM (containing a SPL on it) you'll overwrite USPL, so you'll need to repeat the USPL flashing process again.
8. If you like it, use the paypal donate button on my signature
Enjoy!
UPDATE (thanks Noonski)
TO AVOID BRICKED ELF BE SURE TO CHECK THIS THREAD:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320155
So new users can first check if their Shipped rom is around before taking the decision to flash USPL.
Also this makes them aware to submit new ones to the list.
And if they Get stuck with a 270 Error at 3% without actually having an original, it was they that made the decision themselves.

Thank you so much! Free CID unlock finally!

Congratulations!!!!

Cool! I finally could update my Spanish Elf to the latest Dopod Asia ROM (WWE)
Thanks!

Greate! I just flash it successfully!

in simple words: No
there are two different areas in the ROM.
One regarding CID and one for SIM-Lock.

Works perfect in Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit.
Thx pof!

THNX!!!!
THANX a lot pof!!!
You will get a donation from me!
(as I promised here for Excalibur)
Am I right that I can also backup my original ROM and flash it back with that tools?

Thanks And Working Fine With Me .

Great job pof

Oh that's great news for all users HTC Touch, thanks a lot.

This is fantastic! Thanks pof!
Took me 3 attempts, but it worked out great (Vista didnt work though, XP did the third time )
Edit: My dutch Touch, is now a WWE Touch! Thnx again pof. Awesome work.

No success
I went through steps 1 and 2. Then started the RUU with the ELFUSPL hack from pof. But it always gives me the message "[270] UPDATE ERROR" and "Image file is corrupted". I downloaded it again from pof - no change.
Now I wonder if:
1. Is it ok if the ActiveSync icon remains gray (not connected) after the step 2 and during the step 3?
2. Is this method not appropriate for O2 Nova (German)?
Don't know what to do now. Would anyone be so kind and give me any hints, please?
----------------
O2 Nova, German version

How can i see my default settings ?
CID locked or CID unlocked ?
Or all Touch CID Locked default ? ( and i need this flash if i have upgrade "any" rom )
Thx all of your answers !

Follow the steps on the wizard to flash the patched SPL, when this
step completes your device will reboot.

I dont think its a typo. The wizard regards the setup wizard, which is the series of checklist that you go through to get to the end desired result.

Note for WM6.1 users
================
Do not try this on 6.1! You will need to downgrade to 6.0
Note for Vista users
===============
This guide will explain how to change your drivers to the xp. You will have problems running the unlocker otherwise. Log in as administrator if you run the ROM update tool and unlocker. That also applies to XP users.
Instructions
============
(The instructions below take preference since they are more current than the readme in the package)
1. To verify you have installed the right HardSPL do this: power off and then press power on while keeping camera pressed, this will enter the so called bootloader mode and you see a tri-color screen (Red, Green, Blue). You should see "SPL-1.0 OliPof" on the second line in the top left corner. You can exit this mode by means of a "soft reset": press the reset button with the stylus.
2. Make a note of the radio version that is currently installed. You see the version strings in the splash screen which appears soon after power on (e.g. "R 1.27.14.09"). Since we will flash a special radio in step 5 you need to flash back your original radio in the last step. You can download radio roms from XDA devs here.
3. Connect PC and Kaiser with a USB cable and keep it connected until the last step.
4. Power on the Kaiser and let it boot into Windows Mobile. On the PC make sure the activesync icon is green
5. After you unpacked the download you see directories "step1" and "step2". Go into "step1" and run KaiserCustomRUU.exe. This will flash the special patched radio rom. Follow the instructions until it is finished.
Note that you can also skip step 6. and proceed with step 7.
6. Power off your Kaiser and insert a 'strange' SIM, i.e. a SIM from another provider than the one your phone is locked to.
7. Once Windows Mobile has booted up it will (usually after you have entered the usual 4-digit PIN) show a window called "Simlock" and a textbox where you can enter a 8-digit unlockcode. Now perform a soft reset by pressing the reset button *but* at the same time keep the camera button pressed. If you did it well you will be back in bootloader mode and you see the tri-color screen. The best technique is to press and hold the camera button first and then shortly press the reset button with the stylus.
8a. right-click activeync icon and uncheck "Allow USB connections" from Connection Settings
8b. On your PC go into the "step2" directory and run "kaiser-simunlocker.exe". If all went well you will see the unlockcode on your monitor and your Kaiser is being restarted automatically.
8c. right-click activeync icon and check "Allow USB connections" from Connection Settings
You should see this:
Code:
=== Kaiser Sim Unlocker (c)2008 by jockyw2001
=== Donations happily accepted, paypal to [email][email protected][/email]
Your Unlockcode = 12345678
[] Done, enter the unlockcode
[] And then flash your original radio
Press Enter to exit
Note: If you skipped step 6 then you should now also skip step 9. and continue with step 9x
9. Once Windows Mobile has booted up it will again show the "Simlock" window. When prompted (usually immediately after you have entered the usual 4-digit SIM PIN), enter the the 8-digit unlockcode and your phone is permanently SIM unlocked
Now proceed to step 10.
9x. (Only if you skipped steps 6. and 9.): Run \windows\simlock.exe on your Kaiser and enter the 8-digit unlockcode when you are prompted.
In order to see simlock.exe you have to open file explorer then click menu > and show all files. If you can still not find simlock.exe copy the attached one to the phone's "My Documents" directory and run it from there.
10. Download the original radio from here to the "step3" directory on your PC and flash it with KaiserCustomRUU.exe
That's all folks
Now you can look forward to some other great tools which I will release soon: "Kaiser SuperCID" and "Kaiser Radio Dumper"
Enjoy and ... donate to keep R&D going! Thx!

Yes, and goodluck!
Can I use different radio since my original radio is not available for download (my original radio is 1.27.12.29) ?
I use a Kaiser on the UK Orange and I have flashed my phone to Dutty's Rom.
Thank you so much.
Im a UK Orange user. When I spoke to HTC a few months back, the guy I spoke to suggested that Orange are actually using a modified version of the radio rom.
Has anyone using a Kaiser on the UK Orange tried a different radio rom?
Or has the UK Orange radio rom actually been dumped, so we can upload go back to it after unlocking our "beautifully powerful phone"

You can, but each radio has it's pros and cons. Maybe you should wait until I release my radio dumper. No release date for it yet, but I think in 1-2 wk
i have a question on last step where u have to flash back your radio in "step3 folder", for example, if i need to flash back KAIS_Radinly_1.27.12.17_CustomRUU, but in this zip file has CustomRUU.exe and RUU_signed.nbh, should i put this two files in to "step3 folder", and then click on KaiserCustomRUU.exe (step3 folder). OR it doesn't matter which *.exe files i click, because they are same files, but different filename.

On Step2 it give the error:
\\.\WCEUSBSH001: Permission Denied

ROm Upgrade Problem

I accidentally put The Orange SPV E650 ROM onto my unbranded HTS S710 instead of onto my SPVG E650 and am now unable to Flash it with the WM6.1 ROM that I had on in the past. SDA Application unlock says that the Phone can not be unlocked, does anyone know how to enable me to re-flash WM 6.1 onto my Vox?
Roland
exactly same happened to me, tried best but failure, had to take service center and pay 500 INR to get rid of this.
I am assuming you didn't flash uSPL to the device? You should be able to reflash it with an official ROM, uSPL and then your 6.1 ROM.
That is because the ROM of SPV E650 needs more steps to unlock it
I also have had experience with this ROM and found below steps to unlock it
1- Copy SP_AllowCertificateInstall.cab to your phone, Install it & reboot
2- Connect your phone to your pc with active sync. Click on SDA_ApplicationUnlock, reboot
3- And install PHMRegedit.cab to the phone. Open this Registry Edit and
navigate to HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\
Click "Values" soft-key
Change "00001001" value to 1 (decimal) (recovery note: default is 2)
Change "00001005" value to 40 (decimal) (recovery note: default is 16)
Reboot device.
4- Now you can flash your phone with any ROMs (follow normal steps as instructions)
Just in case your phone still cannot be unlock, open Registry Edit and follow this
1- Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Security/Policies/Policies,
2- Value, Menu : New Value, DWORD, Value name : 0000101b, Value data : 1, Base : Decimal, Value type : REG DWORD,
3-Done. Reboot your phone
4- Flash with your favorite ROMs
Above is my experience with my 2 phones (Orange SPV E650 & HTC S710). Use this instructions at your own risk !
Good luck !
That Worked nicely, just app unlocked my S710 and flashed USPL to 1.35 and applied the IPL 1.35 patch.

[How-To] From 1.33.0010 SPL to Engg SPL with Amon_RA's ROM

Here's a n00b friendly guide for all the people with 1.33.0010 SPL and who would like to switch over to the 1.33.2010 Engineering SPL with Amon_RA's ROM. This has been tested on my Indian HTC Magic, but I do think it will work for other Magics with the same SPL. Remember, this is for 32A only.
1. Download the latest Android SDK from http://developer.android.com/. Create a folder called "AndroidSDK" on your C drive and extract the contents of the zip file to the folder such that the folders called "tools", "usb_driver" and all are within the "AndroidSDK" folder.
2. On Windows XP : Go to Control Panel->System, Choose the 'Advanced' tab and then click 'Environment Variables' To do this on Vista/Windows7: Simply go to Control Panel->System and choose 'Advanced System Settings' and then 'Environment Variables'
Now that you've got here locate Path under System Variables and click Edit, then add the following to the end of the string displayed:
;C:\AndroidSDK\tools\
Then click OK until you get out of the menus.
3. Enable Debugging mode on the phone by going to
Menu > Settings > Applications > Developement > USB Debugging
4. Go to http://dl.google.com/android/android_usb_windows.zip and download the ADB drivers for windows.
5. Connect your Android device via USB. When the Found New Hardware Wizard appears, you'll be asked if you'd like Windows Update to search for software, select No, not this time and click Next.
Select Install from a list or specified location and click Next.
Select Search for the best driver in these locations. Browse and select the unzipped folder. Click Finish.
6. Go to "Run" in Start and type in "cmd". This is the standard procedure for invoking the Command Prompt. Remember this. Type "cd\" hit enter and then enter "cd AndroidSDK", hit enter. The command prompt should look like :
C:\AndroidSDK>
Now type in "adb devices" and hit enter. You should see something like this :
C:\AndroidSDK>adb devices
List of devices attached
XXXXXXXXXXXX device
If you do, everything is great. Disconnect your device.
7. Now go to HTC's global site and download the latest version of HTC Sync, unzip and install. When you connect your device now, HTC Sync should recognize your phone.
8. Now comes the Gold Card part. Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4289899&postcount=1 and follow the guide to create your Gold Card. The 2GB Sandisk one which comes in the box works just fine. If you don't have Android Market, don't fret. Forget about the Steps 3 & 4. Instead, connect your device with the card in it. Invoke command prompt and cd to "AndroidSDK" as told before. Type in "adb shell cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid". You will get the CID. Follow the rest of the steps from the guide to create a Gold Card.
9. Time for action. Now you gotta get http://rapidshare.com/files/267446145/2.53.707.2_-_sappimg.zip and http://rapidshare.com/files/267451803/2.16.707.3_-_sappimg.zip. Now follow these steps to flash the 2.53.707.2 ROM first and then the 2.16.707.3 later :
# Copy the required sappimg.nbh/zip to the Goldcard.
# Boot your phone while holding the VOLUME-DOWN key.
# Press the ACTION KEY (=trackball) to start the update.
# Wait until the update completes and press the ACTION KEY (=trackball) to reboot your phone.
10. Now time to create a Nandroid Backup. Download http://rapidshare.com/files/262635369/recovery-RAv1.2.0H.img. Put it in the "AndroidSDK" folder. Switch off your phone. Hold the Back button and Switch it on. This takes you to the Fastboot mode. Standard procedure. Remember this. Connect the phone to the PC. Invoke the command prompt, cd to "AndroidSDK" and type :
fastboot boot recovery-RAv1.2.0H.img
The recovery image will boot and you'll see the recovery screen. Wait for 2 minutes. Select the Nandroid Backup option and follow the on-screen instructions to create a backup. Reboot device. And copy over the "nandroid" folder on you sd card to a safe place.
11. Go to http://rapidshare.com/files/267475618/update.Engineering-SPL-HBOOT-1.33.2010-signed.zip. Copy over the zip to your sd card. Switch off your phone. Hold the Back button and Switch it on. This takes you to the Fastboot mode. Connect the phone to the PC. Invoke the command prompt, cd to "AndroidSDK" and type :
fastboot boot recovery-RAv1.2.0H.img
The recovery image will boot and you'll see the recovery screen. Wait for 2 minutes. Select the Apply sdcard:choose zip option and choose the Engineering SPL. Follow on-screen instructions to flash the SPL. Reboot.
12. Time to flash the Amon_RA ROM. Go to http://rapidshare.com/files/258868832/Rom-RAv1.1.0H-signed-update.zip. Rename the file to "update.zip" and copy over to the sd card.
Select the Wipe Data option, and follow instructions to Wipe your present ROM. If you don't do this, your phone might not boot after flashing the ROM. Select the Apply sdcard:update.zip option. Follow onscreen instructions to flash the ROM. Reboot. All done. Welcome to Android.....
All credits go to Amon_RA, ekindangen and everybody else for their respective contributions.....
PS. Please do chip in with a Thanks if you found this guide helpful and any corrections are welcome.....
PPS. After you flash the ROM, if HTC Sync isn't working, use Google Sync, since the ROM is a Google ION based one.

No problem, bro. Always ready to help....
And, BTW, I have made changes to the last step of the procedure. It concerns the Wiping of the present ROM before flashing the custom one. Please do take note of it....
when i tried to run adb devices on the c:/adnroidSdk, its shwoing me error , adb not recognized as internal or external command.....
i am using vista.
the command is only running if i go the particular directory , like c/ android sdk / tools , and then run the adb devices then it shows the connected device... ie my phone is it OK . or any thing wrong till now ... ?
saptali one small question that if do till the point number 9 , ONLY , then can i be able to get the google stuff or shall i proceed from point 10 onwards.... am i correct that from point 10 onwards its ROM FLASHING , and till point 9 and above its SPL flasing only ..
will my phone works , as normal if i do till point 9 only ? ie SPL flasing only..?? i dont want to do rom flashing ..
Workin on it!
Started workin on... will keep u posted.
btw, what are the odds of bricking the phone?
@ pintspin, either you need to send the path right ( in ur environmenta variables) or navigate to ur tools folder inside the androidSDK folder and run the adb.
doubt
Under step 9, why is it necessary to flash two ROMS: 2.53.707.2 first and then the 2.16.707.3.
Isnt't it true that once we flash 2.53.707.2 ROM, Security will be Off and we land upto a non-perfected SPL?

ashish yes, dont flash 2.16.707.3, 2.53.707.2 is more than enough. I actually flashed 2.16.707.3 and came back to 2.53.707.2. Because none of rom where botting. Please rmember to make *Nandroid backup* after flashing 2.53.707.2, if you screw up at any stage it will help you to revert to 2.53.707.2

No there is no google stuff in 2.53... Rom, it just turns the S=OFF in your spl, which is good, makes your SPL a engg one
this is damn cool... i did it step by step and it worked like a charm.
I can confirm that it worked using the 2GB sd-card that came with the device.
At point 9 - copy the files to sd card and rename them to sappimg.zip
I have to mention that all data will be erased! So I didn't actually get the backup part at point 9 that backs up the files from the sappimg in my opinion.
I've flashed only the 2.53.707.2 ROM... don't know what the other one does.
I have copied the update.zip files directly on the gold SD card. No format or anything after the sappimg update. I now have several update_xxx.zip files on the card and checking them out.
Mine was a HTC Magic bought from US. Initial config:
Sapphire PVT 32A Ship S-on H
HBOOT 1.33.0010 (SAPP10000)
CPLD 12
RADIO 3.22.20.17
Build 2.53.707.2
After update it is showing:
Sapphire PVT 32A ENG S-off H
HBOOT 1.33.2010
Still no Google apps on the device but will try to put the Hero on it . Or another Magic Rom.
Thanks to all of you who made it possible. There is no purpose in having an open source system on a locked device!
i am not able to download this file from rapid share as , my limit is over can any one please tell me any other link for same , please
http://rapidshare.com/files/267475618/update.Engineering-SPL-HBOOT-1.33.2010-signed.zip
1. Step 9 Flashes 2.53.707.2 which is Engineerings SPL v1.33.2010
2. Step 9 then flashes 2.16.707.3 which is NON-Perfected stock SPL v1.33.0009
3. Step 10 does a Nandroid backup.
4. Step 11 again reverts back to 2.53.707.2 which is Engineerings SPL v1.33.2010
Is flashing to 2.16.707.3 required for taking a Nandroid backup??
If flashing to 2.16.707.3 is not required can someone update the original steps to avoid confusion?

Exactly this is what I wanted to ask:
If flashing to 2.16.707.3 is not required can someone update the original steps to avoid confusion?

ashish yes, dont flash 2.16.707.3, 2.53.707.2 is more than enough. I actually flashed 2.16.707.3 and came back to 2.53.707.2. Because none of rom where botting. Please rmember to make *Nandroid backup* after flashing 2.53.707.2, if you screw up at any stage it will help you to revert to 2.53.707.2

Asish i have told you, im on 2.53.707.2, and im rooted you dont need 2.16.707.3(imperfect spl), its better to have a Engg spl 2.53.707.2, stick with it.

If you just want the Engineering SPL, you can stop at that particular point, and stay with the official ROM.

btw, what are the odds of bricking the phone?
@ pintspin, either you need to send the path right ( in ur environmenta variables) or navigate to ur tools folder inside the androidSDK folder and run the adb.

I can tell you that if you have a Nandroid backup, there is no chance of bricking your phone. In fact, if you want to you can backup your current ROM with Nandroid.

Under step 9, why is it necessary to flash two ROMS: 2.53.707.2 first and then the 2.16.707.3.
Isnt't it true that once we flash 2.53.707.2 ROM, Security will be Off and we land upto a non-perfected SPL?

The first ROM is a test ROM, which gets the security OFF. The second is a shipping ROM with a non-perfect SPL.

The 2.16.707.3 ROM is not required for taking the backup. You can actually take a Nandroid backup of any ROM. But why I took the backup after flashing those two ROMs was because both of them are official ROMs. And you haven't yet begun messing with the SPL. So, it's a safe middle ground. That's why the backup....

Treo Pro on CDMA networks - ROMs, Instructions, Tips & Tricks
Flashing...
[size=+1]Instructions:
First, if you have GSM treo pro (NOT CDMA, NOT SPRINT/VERIZON/TELUS), this is not intended for your device. see this post on GSM treo pro's current status: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...7&postcount=55
steps:
0) if you have Vista or Windows 7, make sure you have latest WMDC.
1) download Hard-SPL package from attachment, extract to an empty local folder.
2) you must Have Phone Synced with PC in Windows Mobile!
3) run PANTHER_CDMA_HSPL exe from the folder
4) follow steps in the program!
5) it should go to tricolour screen now, i.e. SSPL mode, and show 0.32.SSPL. now follow steps in the RUU that's launched by now.
6) SPL flashes, device automatically reboots, job done. if you get any errors, follow the instructions offered by the program.
7) to confirm you got it installed, go into bootloader mode (tricolour screen!) and verify the screen shows 0.36.CMONEX.
NOTE: you will not see the SPL version during normal boot!
to enter bootloader mode to see version: with the device turned on, press and hold the Camera button along with the Power button, then press the reset button with the stylus tip, then release the Camera and Power buttons when bootloader tricolour screen appears.
NOTE 2: anyone having problems with the device entering SSPL automatically or problems with USB connection after SSPL was loaded, please copy SSPL-Manual-PantherCDMA.exe from the SSPLManual.zip attachment to the device and run it. then once the screen is in SSPL, run RUU manually. i.e. you run the RUU on the PC, if it isn't obvious.
NOTE 3: this is unsigned Hard-SPL. no limitations on flashing ROMs. also, this has overwrite protection, if someone needs to revert to stock SPL for warranty reasons, a stock SPL downgrade package will soon be posted.
NOTE 4: do not use this RUU to flash anything else! this is only intended for flashing the HardSPL.
Finally, if you wish to thank me with a donation, you can do so by clicking the link the HardSPL program offers, or here: http://hpcmonex.net/htc/pantc/panther.htm
Troubleshooting tips:
- READ THE INSTRUCTIONS
- READ THE INSTRUCTIONS
- READ THE INSTRUCTIONS
- if you have USB issues:
1. anyone having problems with the device entering SSPL automatically or problems with USB connection after SSPL was loaded, please copy SSPL-Manual-PantherCDMA.exe from the SSPLManual.zip attachment to the device and run it (make sure USB is plugged in). then once the screen is in SSPL, run RUU manually. i.e. you run the RUU on the PC, if it isn't obvious.
2. if it still has connection error in SSPL screen, try unplugging and replugging the USB
3. try different USB port, PC, etc.
4. when there are sync issues, the program also suggests installing this file on the phone: http://hpcmonex.net/roms/enablerapinew.cab, just making a note here too.
5. it's been verified that you can flash HardSPL from SD in SSPL, see instructions below.
Updates:
HardSPL NBH file is now downloadable from 1st post! you can flash this from SD now; rename this NBH to PANTIMG.NBH, put it on a fat32 formatted SD, and then run SSPL-Manual-PantherCDMA.exe on the phone.
steps for stock SPL restore:
0. only use this for warranty service! for no other purpose!!! also before flashing this, make sure you already have stock ROM flashed.
1. download Stock_SPL_Restore_036.zip attachment from 1st post, extract it.
2. get customRUU and flash this file. can also do SD flash (PANTIMG.NBH).[/size]

[Q] Am i good to move on?

Guys i am trying to root my Desire s with hboot 2.00.0002 following some guides arround..Well i created a goldcard and downloaded an older ruu.The "problem" is that its in .exe format and not in .zip.Its 255mb and in .exe format.Am i good to go or it must be in .zip format?
The RUU is supposed to be executed (.exe) from your PC (while your phone is connected to it via USB).

Then is it safe to move it to the sd card?I mean will the phone recognise an .exe file to install the rom?
Please read the previous post again, try to understand what's written there.

Well,i believe i get it now..The guide i am following says " put from the RUU the rom.zip file (renamed to PG88IMG.zip) in the sdcard root directory" and i thought i should move the RUU i have downloaded to the sd card and run that file to install the rom.The reason i posted is that i dont see any zip file in the RUU.Its only a saga blah blah.exe file.So apparently i made a mistake. As i suppose you guys know its not funny to brick a month old phone and dont know what to do next..
You dont know What you are doing. Dont touch anithing. Start reading again.
I copied underneath from a different topic. It's not perfect but you can use it to find your way.
Hey mate!
Im on a same boat than you. Waiting for my phone to arrive then I'll start tweaking.
so far ive done this note list to my self.
could someone confirm if there is some big mistakes?
MY NOTES/ TODO LIST.
1. to not avoid warrancy ( Dont use htcdev unlock!)
2. download adb tools (ADB TOOL GUIDE LINK)
3. install htc sync for drivers then disable/uninstall htc sync.
4. check your phone software and hboot version on boot menu (GUIDE LINK)
5. downgrade to oldest RUU with hboot 0.90.xxx something if don’t want use htcdev unlock ( GUIDE LINK)
6. to do this it depends on software on phone.
if its new like 2.11.xx-> use tacoroot guide. ( GUIDE LINK )
if its older like 2.10.xx use the zergrush guide. ( GUIDE LINK )
7. after succesfully downgraded. take a backup. ( GUIDE LINK )
8. use revolutionary guide to S-Off And root ( this is possible only in oldest version of original RUU). ( GUIDE LINK )
8. install 4ext recovery touch and titanium backup. do your backups. ( GUIDE LINK)
9. format / partition SDCARD ( GUIDE LINK PLEASE!) not necessary
10. download preferrable custom rom. Copy it to SDCARD root.
11. Flash custom rom. ( GUIDE LINK )
12. Enjoy and have a beer!
The SDcard partitioning is weird for me. how do i do that and what ext3/4 etc and what size do they need to be. if someone would confirm, please.
Am i on a right track or totally lost?

Slightly harsh, but probably the best advice the OP can take at this stage. I had my DS for less than a month when I decided to root it - and that was over a year ago so I had to use the XTC-Clip to hardware break it for S-Off and root. I read, read and read some more until I knew EXACTLY what I had to do without consulting any guides - then I finally went for it.
Go back and read everything again so that you know every step of the way what to do and what to expect - then ask any questions that you may have before you finally take the plunge.
Well,guys..I asked from a person here on xda to give me a step by step guide on how to do this and i came up with the conclusion that some steps where not complete.Thats why i had such stupid question. Now i have done my personal reading and i am ready to follow this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1443636 do downgrade..Although i have some questions on that i will try to figure things out and then post my questions.Till then i will do some more reading..Thanks again.
I used the points typed in previous post to find my whay... I repeat. My whay. So by reading and checking i made underneath steps. It did work.

8Update hboot naar eng hboot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679338
9. install 4ext recovery touch and titanium backup. do your backups. ( GUIDE LINK)
We're going to install EXT4 recovery. But first download ''4EXT_Recovery_v2.2.7_RC5.zip'' and extract the recovery.img file to the folder where you installed fastboot and adb. If you followed the tutorial in step 1 the folder will be ''C:\android-tools''
Now make sure Fast Boot is turned off on your phone. Go to ''Settings > Power > Fast Boot'' to turn it off. Unplug your phone from your computer, it's time to turn of your phone and boot into your bootloader.
Press Volume Down Button and Power Button at the same time to boot into recovery. Now connect your phone to your computer and select fastboot.
(Power button to select, Volume Down/Up to navigate)
Go to start->run-> type cmd and press enter. A command prompt will now appear.
Type:
cd c:\android-tools [press enter]
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img [press enter]
EXT4 recovery is now installed on your phone. Turn off your phone in bootloader menu.
10. download preferable custom rom. Copy it to SDCARD root.
11. Flash custom rom. ( GUIDE LINK )
12. Enjoy and have a beer!
-when using Win7 you can start CMD in specific folder (avoid 5-10 cd's or long/path/to/folder) by holding shift+right click/open command window here)
and i repeat again. Above steps worked for my phone, Maybe not for yours, but it shows the way.
Well you now see my friend that i was following the wrong guide. My software version is 2.10.163.5 so i didnt need tacoroot method but the zergrush..I will try this one and see where it will lead me..
easy, maybe you not understand which is flash and RUU
