Connect to internet with laptop via XDAII with bluetooth?? - General Topics

I'm trying to establish bluetooth dial up network with my XDAII & laptop.
I've got both devices bonded but the ports seem to differ from each other so it won't dial up via my XDAII.
I've read other forums about installing a new bluetooth stack but I'm a bit weary unless I get a bit more info.
Anybody out there that can help??
I've included some links that I found that discuss this topic but the download links are broke.

try reading the pdf for info

I have got this working thanks to a few searches.
Just for info if other people are getting stuck but here is the thread that I used;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=16384&highlight=bluetooth+modem
For info the details off the o2 site are very detailed if you want to use a bluetooth USB connection, it is mainly if you are using the cradle.
Anyway I'm a happy chappy, I can now sit in my garden & upload files without loads of wires!!

hope it's rather small files because gprs is often pretty expensive pr MB
and always very very slow unless one is used to 56K modem i guess

Yes files are quite small but when your stuck in a caravan for a week with no phoneline this is the next best thing.

XDA II Bluetooth

Hi folks:
I wanted to gather experience on Bluetooth on the XDA II. How well does it work? Impressions with the Jabra headset seem to be mixed according to one of our forums.
But what about other BT devices? What have you tried and how well has it worked?
Thanks in advance,
Fernando
Do a look through this forum but
It doesn't work currently with a BT GPS device (Emtac or TomTom)
There are a couple of others it doesn't work with as well...
From southern china(but Japanese  )
The bluetooth can get connection of GPRS through the another B/T phone
such like a Sonny Ericson T610<<But for what?
Also can be received files like pictures, wav files, and etc from B/T phone
or B/T PDA.-----but stil can't find how to send from Xda ll to them
Tried to Xdall as external modem for Note PC through the B/T, but still not
be successfull.
How did you get it to receive files from other bluetooth devices?
file to Xdao2ll from device
very simple, turned on the bluetooth both of xdao2ll & the device which is about to sent out file, and use the command "sent by b/t" or some like similor command or menu on the device.
and select the name of bonded xdao2ll. after second,xdao2ll will show u the dialogue such like "xxx is sending files, do u accept?" (forget exact sentence...)
just u accept it. you can find sent file in xdao2ll. u must compliete bonding(pairing) between xdao2ll that device before do that.
Battery life
I use a Belkin dongle and use ActiveSync to give me a way to browse the Internet around my house. Works quite well, but the battery life is apalling. It's just gone down 3% in the time I've been writing this message!
Anybody know if the Bluetooth implementation is flawed as regards switching between class I, classII and class III power levels? It feels like the XDA is using 100mW when it should be using 1mW.

External USB HDD

Hi, i have been reading about this, and i am getting conflicting information, and no real answer.
I have a 2.5" USB hard drive, and was wondering is there any way to plug this into the Magician, and then for the magician to see it as storage. I dont want to use it all the time, just when in the car, and plugged into the Car Stereo.
if its just a case of a lead convertion, then i think it would be simple, but if not.... hmmm.
So if anyone can help i'd be grateful
Thanks
Dahquim
This has been answered several times before, and should be possible to find by SEARCHING..
How ever, because I'm in a good mood, I shall answer..
Yes, it is THEORETICALLY possible.
To acheive this, you must gain USB host on your Magician.
This can be done in two ways: Backpack + CF card with host support or a SDIO card with host support.
This can be bought from several suppliers.
Then, it's the driver issue.
A USB disk should be usable on the WM200x OS, but I do not know the size limit.
It might be about 2GB or it could be lots more.
So in real life; NO you can't use a USB HDD with your Magician.
This MIGHT be possible with the new Universal, but we haven't got confirmation that it has USB host support yet.
---- Edit ----
You might be able to do it if you can get a device that has host support.
Kinda like those gadgets that connects digital cameras to HDDs..
It just occurred to me..
How ever, It might be hard to use the magician to controle the data flow..
You'll probably need two connections to the device.
One for telling the device what to send, and one to receive..
Maybe, but unlikely...
chack out this things:
http://www.semiconductors.philips.com/acrobat_download/applicationnotes/AN10034_2.pdf
..this is a pseudo-host controller for PDA but i don't know were can find such a thing...
http://www.semiconductors.philips.com/markets/connectivity/wired/usb/products/otg/overview/#what
http://www.heisei.com.tw/products/2_5-inch_otg_hdd_enclosure/
http://www.cooldrives.com/usbotgshcou2.html
The PXA27x processor inside the magician does support USB-on-the-go...
If you look at the USB connector in the magician, you will see that it is actually a MiniAB connector...
So, from the pure hardware point of view, the magician should actually be able to operate in host mode and, for example, control an external hard drive/pendrive, or even a keyboard...
The point is, that most likely, there's no usb-on-the-go driver provided with the operating system...
IMHO, I think it be a waste. These devices we have are not meant to host power hungry device like a 2.5' HDD. It be a waste to what our devices would be known as "mobile." I think better stick to SD technology but that is also another issue. As the cards get larger and larger, the more processing time and power is required to fetch data and back.
there could be a way ....
After reading this thread, I think there is a possible way of actually having certain types of storages connect to the xdaii. I've seen some bluetooth 40gb hardadrives that connect to the pc. They connect using two methods. The first method connects the harddrive as a wireless storage device and the other method connects the hard drive as a bluetooth network storage. Now as for the second method, it's actually supported in broadcom's and widcomm's pda drivers. So in theory, your device should detect the harddrive as a local computer on your bluetooth network. But now, the main question is, can the bluetooth data transfer speed be sufficient to allow mp3 playback without lagging and frame drops ?? Well that's one questions I'd sure like to know the answer for. Anyways, just liked to share this info with u, it could be useful to u or for others on this forum. Good luck.
can we use this thing for i-mate jam with sdio wi-fi card:

Windows Mobile + 3G + Fuze = Suck it iPhone

I was at family member's house the other day, and my nephew came up and showed me his new mp3 player (iRiver). He was really excited about it, though his Dad couldn't get it to sync with the computer, dumb drivers are included in Vista. He tried to get the drivers but they are on dial-up, yes I told him it wasn't 1993 anymore.
In order to get the drivers, iRiver makes you download their music manager program which is about 9MB's. You can all do the math on this one.
So what do I do? Take the same usb cable that plugs into the mp3 player, plug it into my Fuze and pick the "Internet Sharing" option when the prompt window comes up and we're surfing the net at high speed. File downloaded in about a minute and after a quick installation he was moving his entire music folder over.
Thanks to HTC for using a great standard connection philosphy cause everyone has a mini usb cable lying around. And the connection prompt that so nicely presents itself upon connection so I don't even have to search for the app.
Here Here!
I've quite appreciated HTC's practices for using industry standards! Their phones offer exceptional quality, and performance at a reasonable price. If AT&T Had not f'd up the Touch Pro keyboard (seriously, what happened to the tab and the control key!) I could see using and hacking the hell out of this phone for YEARS
is it too much to ask for a 3.5 mm though?
but yes, fuze = AMAZING
3.5 mm? its bluetooth now man. when i had my tmo mda and i hooked it up to my car and ended up slamming on the brakes it flew but luckily the phone nor its connections broke but the part of the cable that hooked up to the stereo broke and only had to replace the cable
but yeah its nice to just whip it out and do stuff. kinda like them gphone commercials

I'd love an audio jack. The one thing my mates Blackstone has over my Raphael.
What you said about industry standards it does annoy me that the mini USB connector is a little weird with the one flat side though. Bent a mini USB cable using it.

trying to get Internet Sharing to work: I get an Edge connection on my fuze (ATT), make sure I can see teh internets (on the fuze, that is) then plug it into my XP laptop via USB (ActiveSynch starts), select Internet Sharing on the fuze, and see my laptop (XP) add a connection (LAN4- my fuze) but the Fuze (Internet Sharing screen) keeps saying "waiting for Network" and times out in ~30 second, and XP drops teh Lan4. I did change XPs Internet Sharign setting under IE-->tools-->InternetOptions-->Connections (check never dial) -->Lan Settings button check Automatically Detect Settings.
My XP Laptop is already setup for internet, I just disables the wireless onboard. I want to figure this out for a family roadtrip comign up, to browwse the internet on my laptop via my Fuze unlimmitted data plan.
ANy help? (PLEASE?)

did u search the forum for the registry tweaks to enable internet sharing? it involves deleting the contents of a key...try looking around and if not i'll be glad to help
Are you serious? I thought that was ust for Sprint customers, because Sprint blocked it... My Fuze came pre-loaded with an Internet Sharing app... and I still have to hack?

No hack required. Just pay AT&T the extra 30 per month and you do not need to tweak.

Well you can hack it if you want to http://www.fuzemobility.com/att-fuze-internet-sharing-tethering-revisited/
Thanks, Nhshah7, I found several threads on the topic. Maybe you can help tho, as they seemed unclear on:
Do I need to delete HKLM\...\forcecellconnection key and that's it? some threads seemed to suggest ATT will keep kicking me off and i have to run some script that keeps changing ..\settings\enabled back to 1. (BTW, genius points to the guy who wronte the script, if that's the real deal). got ~5 mins service today from home, didn't get kicked off, ~70kb speed from Edge home is in the sticks, no 3G an I even had to go outside to get Edge):
-ATT Fuze, default WM6.1 + various tweaks
props to davidk for the clutch fuzemobility link
and yes, you just need to delete the contents of teh key. after that choose to connect using medianet and you should be all set. i dont have any of those disconnect problems though, i can tether for a good 20-30 minutes without problems, not sure what everyone else is talking about with teh script though. i'll look aroundif i get that problem though

Unable to get tethering or internet sharing working on VZW TP2

It's easier if I just post a link to the thread over at smartappsworld so I'm not stuck re-writing it all. http://smartappsworld.com/thread-t...-getting-error-692-hardware-failure-in-modem
I still have not been able to resolve these issues. Tethering worked without problems on my Q9M, but on the TP2 it gives me error 692 -There was a hardware failure in the modem - . Internet sharing isnt cooperating either. New hardware wizard in XP pops up for Generic RNDIS device. When I tried to feed it some drivers for Internet Sharing (pulled by another xda member in another thread here somewhere), XP gives me some bogus error about a missing entry in one of the .inf files that I pointed it towards. It doesnt specify which file, then it closes and there is a big yellow ( ! ) over Internet Sharing device in network devices (Driver not installed).
Thats a quick run through of the issues I'm dealing with. I really need this working as this is my only way to connect my PC to the internet. I live in boonie land where cable is nowhere in my neighborhood and dsl is too far to connect.
Yes I searched. I spent a great deal of time going through xda forums and Google... before I decided to post here. Thanks for anyones help in advance.
T.C.
I have not had a problem tethering my tp2 with verizon using Win XP Pro x64, or XP home x86.
The way that works for me is:
Run the internet sharing program, Not the VZW access manager crap.
Tell it to connect
After it connects, then plug in usb from pc to phone
The pc recognizes it as another network connection
It gets its IPs and all no problems.
Open up your choice of browser and off you go.
I have never had to install drivers to do any of this, and also it doesnt use active sync when doing it this way.
hope this helps.
I pulled the internet sharing program out of the Windows folder (made a shortcut ). The problem is when I connect to the PC. The install new hardware wizard comes up for Generic RNDIS device. This is after I clicked "Connect" in IS. I have clicked cancel , then it says install failed, your new hardware may not work properly. IS disconnects and Activesync starts syncing. I tried it the first way , letting AS sync once then turning IS on, same problem.
I dont use VZ Access Manager. I was forced to uninstall that and Activesync when suddenly the PC wouldnt recognize anything while the phone was plugged in. After that, the phones internet wouldn't work either so I then had to restore the phone to factory defaults via a hard reset. After resetting, I found that 228 wouldn't program the phone. The next day I nearly took it in to VZW. tried 228 again and it worked finally. Got my phone internet back and I'm back to trying to get IS working. I didn't install VZAM, but I do have the USB driver installed.
Are there certain files that are needed on XP for this? I am still running 32bit XP Pro if that makes any difference. Service packs maybe? I'm up to the point where I'm about to go out and buy a WiFi card and try connecting it that way. Something Has to work here.
The generic RNDIS ( Remote Network Driver Interface Specification ) drivers are part of the ActiveSync install and are needed for TCP/IP between the PC and the phone.
Install ActiveSync.
Plug in the phone.
Don't cancel the New Hardware Found - let it install the drivers.
Set up a sync relationship with the PC if you like - not needed.
When you tell ICS to connect, it should drop any other connection to the PC (Hard Drive, Active Sync) and make the Windows connect sound. Then you should see the network negotiation icon in the System Tray as it sets up the internet sharing.
When I dont cancel New Hardware wizard, it doesn't find any drivers to install. This is if I let it search for drivers automatically, and after Activesync is installed. See what the problem is here? What should normally work, doesn't. Are there key files missing in the copy of Activesync that is included on the CD from VZW? What am I missing here? When I turn Internet sharing on, on the phone, it always says something like ''Check USB cable connection'' and it never changes. The hardware wizard never finds the drivers, and when I try to point it towards driver files, it says theres an entry missing and wont install.
Grr..if you read through the other thread link above, you know how long i have been trying to get it to work. Frustrating!!

I myself use WalkingHotSpots http://www.walkinghotspot.com/. It is 24.99 for a lifetime license and currently they allow you to use the license over and over when you upgrade your phone. I used it first when I had the Touch Pro and now I am using it with my TP2. It is a program that allows me to add up to 5 connections and use my TP2 as a Hotspot. Now of course it would requre you to have your TP2 connected and charging via wall outlet. But basically it will allow me to connect 3G using my WiFi. I just used it Tuesday night while at church to connect back to my business server and resolve some databases issues. My laptop was running at an excellent speed and I was online over 2 hours with no drop connections. The walking hotspot website says that it will not work with Verizon but I can personally say that it does. I do not have the Internet connection software installed on my TP2 so I am going all WiFi for my connection. I added a password and name for my Walking HotSpot so no random joe could just drive by and conect lol and I was up and running in about 10 minutes. They don't offer a free tiral but you can try it for 1 month for 6.99 and if it doesn't work you will not have wasted 25.00. Just choose to use it for a Touch Pro and you should be able to get the download. I have had it over a year now and it has come in very handy especially when I go home to visit Mom as she has no internet and walking hot spots runs my husband's laptop and mine without any issues. So whatever you ultimately do I hope you get it worked out
WMWifiRouter
I use WMWifiRouter on my phone for internet sharing. It works great. This may be an alternative for you.
http://www.wmwifirouter.com/
(the site appears to be down at the moment)
I just loaded a program called PdaNet and was really amazed at how easy it was to install. Hooked up on Verizon @ 2.4mbps - actually faster than my DSL!!!
I've only tried it a couple times but I recommend going to here http://www.junefabrics.com/pdanet/index.php and download a trial version.
WMWiFiRouter
I second the vote for WMWiFiRouter. I used it on my Mogul and now on my TP2 (both with Sprint) -- no issues whatsoever -- more importantly, no tethering fees.
For me now, when i use USB or Bluetooth over ICS, my browser has to go to 3g.vzwdun.com. It didn't use to do that before. How can I keep the device from reporting that I'm tethering...

[Q] App/Function for instant transfer of photos from Phone to PC via BT

I've been searching for a couple of days now, and I cannot find anything useful. I am working in a corporate environment. I have a PC with a direct Ethernet line to the internet and internal networks. I do not have wifi available, but I do have a BT adapter of my own installed on the PC which works.
I take a lot of pictures for visual aids and work instructions here, which I use my LG G2 for exclusively. I cannot stay tethered to the PC via USB all the time, so Bluetooth is my only real feasible option for wireless transfer. What I would like is to have the photos I take transfer immediately to the host PC without having to initiate it. Bluetooth takes quite a while to transfer large files, but there should be enough time between taking each picture to allow the transfers to complete. I cannot afford the bandwidth on my carrier to upload through the internet either. Does such an app or mod exist to achieve this functionality?
Thanks!
Michael
Use Software Data Cable.
It w9bt Hog your Data.
And also affort it
Hit Thanks.

Thank you and I appreciate the effort, but as I stated above I do not have wifi available on my work PC. Also, this app does not immediately transfer to the PC, which is the functionality I really need. I'm guessing from the lack of responses, such a thing does not exist yet. :-\
Sent from my LG-D800 using Tapatalk
I think Bluesharing for Bluetooth may do what you're looking for. This is a paying app though. I've not tried it myself, so try at your own risk.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.my.blueshare
One personal note on this: this type of app is bound to drain your battery within minutes. I would personally go for a solution to manually sync once or twice per day using the USB connection, using a bat file or similar to automate some of the transfer. Just my personal opinion.
