repairing XDA - take off back? - General Questions and Answers

Well, now it's a week later and my phone is back in my hands in worse shape than a week ago, now with a new gouge in the screen. The good news is, everything still works great on it but the screeching problem is still present. Everytime it powers up or I try to change the ring tone or anything that would require the speaker to function except actual phone calls causes and excruciating screeching noise. However, I am able to make phone calls and hear people fine. It's just that if someone calls the phone, it screeches - like fingernails on blackboard.
Any ideas on how I can repair this thing? How do I get the back off even after I have removed the four screws? Does it pry straight off or slide off or what? And if I do get it off, one of the tech support guys who heard the screeching over the phone said that he thought it was probably a loose cable going to the speaker making partial contact or shorting with something.
I'd like to give it a shot. I've got nothing to lose....... got any advice?

mms problems

i cant get the mms on fuze to work can anybody help
can you explain the situation? Not being able to get the mms to work can be a plethora of things.
i cant send or recieve mms
what did you do prior to having this issue? did you install a specific software or changed some registry keys? Things don't just mess up.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=528369
mms never worked
can you explain how. Give an example of what you did and if there was an error message or a reaction or lack of.
Be specific or it'll be practically impossible to help you.
phone just says mms error i dident change anything it never worked phone is unlocked
Ok here's the last time I'm going to ask for this. I need you to be specific. Is there an error code? If so, what is it.
also, when I got my fuze, mms worked completely fine before and after tweaking. Chances are there is a conflict with softwares that you have installed OR someone changing a key in the registry. If you can provide a clear concise explanation of what problems you have, what it says, and what you did before and after (this includes installation, tweaking, or anything that is not part of the ordinary phone usage) it would really help.
If you can get a screen shot that would actually rock too. I suggest using MyMobiler so you can connect your phone directly to your computer and take a screenshot.
EDIT: i forgot to ask if you bought this phone brand new or used. And also if you have ever done a hard reset (aka format) on the phone before.
if all else fails, I suggest you do a hard reset. (i believe it is holding the center button and down dpad and pushing the reset and let go when the format screen comes up). I do want to warn you though, that it will wipe the phone clean with the original untampered version of wm6.1 So don't forget to sync, back up your txts and files and pictures before you perform a hard reset.
are you dumb or blind or do you just wanna talk about your phone if so im not interested like i have said before the phone says mms error what more do you want
This is what it looks like: you go to the doctor and say, "Doctor, my leg hurts."
"What happened when your leg hurted?"
"are you deaf or blind? My leg hurts, what more do you want to know?"
here's the problem. You come in and say I have a problem. but you refuse to do anything more than state the obvious. Errors almost always comes with numbers. and Errors don't happen out of thin air, ESPECIALLY when they are the original ROM with 0 modification. Obviously, something was done to it. and Obviously you are too lazy or too dense to realize something was done it.
So. If you are not even capable of anything more than a 1 liner, do everyone a favor and actually outline the problem in full including what you did or get the hell out.
Here's a hint: what I wanted to know was stated exactly in my previous post. Use that thing between your ears that is commonly called a brain, and try to answer the questions as best as you can without trying to be a jerk.
P.S I only used my phone as an example, I thought that much was apparent. Sorry i didn't realize that you couldn't comprehend that.

I understand your being upset with the situation but, MPUTTR is trying to assist you. Have you flashed your phone lately, ever? Did you recently add any CAB's? You can't just say my mms is not working and expect someone to help you with your problem...You have to give some tyoe of insight into your situation... So, the question is would you like help or not?
I refer the OP to my sig - "How to ask a question".
Just for fun, I have to ask - Do you even have a Messaging Plan? I switched something on my account once, and my Text Messaging got dropped by accident, and I couldn't send SMS anymore.
Please cooperate with those who are trying to help - it's really counterproductive to ridicule those who are trying to assist you. That'll just get you flamed, and no help .
can anyone else respond this guys an idiot
looks like the only idiot here is the one whose post is above this post of mine. goodluck with your problem. your rude behavior will get you nowhere.

Does your phone suck??

Hey everyone, so i got my Skyrocket, CPU clock is 20% faster than S2, but it feels like its 100% slower. I use my Google Maps A LOT, and the amount of lag i get it UNREAL!!! I zoom in, my phone zooms out or moves my map,or i try to zoom in 5 times and absolutely nothing happens, 10 sec later it finally decides to zoom in, WTF?? None of my games from Gameloft work, says device is not compatible. Skype is also pretty retarded. Takes 3 swipes to unlock my phone,,ugh facepalm!! My galaxy S2 was amazing out of the box even without root or custom rom, so my question is, do all of these problems go away with rooting and flashing with the Skyrocket? Straight out of the box this phone is CRAP, i loved all my Samsungs, but this one....HUGE disappointment, i dont know how anyone can introduce such a bad phone into the market!!
I know this thread sucks..
Sounds like you cry about every phone...lol

What do you expect ? This is a Skyrocket forum.. you come on here and tell the forum the phone SUCKS and you want somebody to understand? lol
I have had this phone since it came out on Nov 6.. this phone does not suck and have no issues you are crying about.
But I have stated before, I am a grown man and don't play games on my phone so I can't help you there.
Grow up and be thankful we have nice phones like these to play with.. things could be worse.
Perhaps your complaints would be better received, if you didn't come off as ranting and *****ing like child

What else would you call a SO CALLED "PHONE", that keeps dropping my calls, Google Maps dont work, games dont work, apps dont work. Last time i held a good phone, it was capable of doing all the things i just listed, this one tho...??
I have None of the issues your talking about. Its you or you have a faulty device and need to exchange it. Ive had the gs2 and skyrocket. There both great phonesn gery fast. And the skyrocket i actually like much better. No lag for me. Everything works very fast. It operator error or you need to exchange it. But you need to learn what xda is for before making another post like your op. This thread is a waste of time, trolling. And you do not deserve any help because of the manner in which you posted/trolled.
You people are too sensitive.

Stop trying to get a rise out of people OP. I've seen enough here. If you're not happy with the phone then search for the answers and try to improve it. If you can't find an answer then you ask, politely, not like you 're just here to rant. And if I see you use the word "fag" again, your account will be MIA like a Dolphin.

[Q]

Should I exchange my tablet?
When I apply a little pressure to the bottom of the screen (where the charge port is) I can hear a little click noise and see the screen be pressed down.

This implies it would not become a problem, and I do not think it will if you do not batter your device. Also, for the love of all that is holy, please use a descriptive title for a post, for
1) not that many people like to go "oh, let's see what that blank title question-mark post is about. I loooooove surprises! <giggle>
(costing you possible replies and help) and
2) more people that ACTUALLY know what to reply (in this case, people "suffering" from the same "issue") could have picked up.
Stop me if I'm wrong............
I sense that this is one of those "humor me I'm bored" threads.
Beginning with an ambiguous or vague question then ends up trapping good people who actually want to help someone into an ongoing useless stream of dribble that ends up cascading into a wide river of the inane.
Let's see who will be the first to suggest a search of the forum on the clicking thingy.
Then how will we handle the should I send it back question?
Closed, next time use a better title.
Thanks.

[Guide] BRICK PHONE RECOVERY

THIS GUIDE IS FOR ANYONE WITH A GALAXY SERIES PHONE WHO BELIEVES THEIR DEVICE IS "BRICKED," IN A NON-WORKING STATE, IN A BOOTLOOP (CAN'T GET PAST SPLASH SCREEN,) OR WITH A STUCK POWER BUTTON
In no way am I a connoisseur of these android devices, but look around on the forum, I couldn't find any guide for anyone with a bricked phone, or at least for my device, so I'm all you've got.
I'll list the steps that I took in order. My device wasn't bricked after all, it was just the power button, and I'll cover that later.
STEP 1: Stay calm. I was pissed when I thought my device was bricked, but you need to be careful, they aren't literal bricks and they can't take too much of a beating. I emphasize on too much because these devices are quite durable, but don't throw yours through the living room wall because it wont turn on for you. If your device is easily repairable and you break it in a rage fit, whose fault is it then? Keep calm and continue with this guide.
STEP 2: MAKE SURE YOUR POWER BUTTON ISN'T STUCK! DO NOT continue past STEP 2 until you've tried everything to make sure its not the power button. IF, and ONLY IF, you've spent about 30 minutes wiggling that little bastard and cleaning it thoroughly can you continue to the next step. If you haven't tried anything yet, then I'll begin. You're gonna start by taking your device, facing the side with the power button downwards, and gently, but not very gently, tapping it on a table, your hand, something to get your power button unstuck. Tap it on something for about 30 second intervals, trying to turn your phone on in between intervals. If you've done this about 10 - 15 times, then let's move on. We're gonna try what fixed my phone. If there's a possibility that it's still the power button being stuck that's keeping your device from booting, it's gonna be the next thing I talk about. Something is in your button. A sticky substance, I should say. You've gotta clean it out thoroughly, and I have two ways that will work.
Method 1: Go purchase yourself a can of keyboard dust-off spray. Stuff comes in handy for a lot of electronic applications, and it fixed my device, so I'm grateful. Anyway, you're gonna take your can of dust-off spray, and spray it towards the power button on your device, trying your best to get most of the spray in the gaps around the button. Do that for 30 second intervals, powering on in between, etc etc. If that hasn't worked, there's two things you can do. Continue with this method further, or move on to method 2. Continuing with Method 1 requires a knowledge of electronics. You're gonna have to open up your device, by removing all the screws showing under the battery cover. IF YOU'VE NEVER OPENED YOUR DEVICE BEFORE, LOOK UP A GUIDE ON YOUTUBE. I can't really show you a visual, so look for a youtube video on how to disassemble your device. Once you have pried open your device, check out the little white button where the power button lays over. Is there anything sticky on or around it? If so, CAREFULLY scrape it off with a needle or a razor blade CAREFULLY. If there isn't anything sticky on it, spray some more of your dust-off into the small white button. Don't worry if it looks like the spray is turning into liquid on contact with your device, the liquid will vaporize almost instantly. After you've sprayed a decent amount into the button's area, take your battery, and hold it in the position it would be in your device, parallel with the rest of your phone, and touching the contacts. Once you're holding the battery securely to the contacts with one hand, take a pen or your fingernail and press the small white button with the other hand. Does it turn on, and if so, does it get past the boot loop? If you've gotten past the boot loop like I did at this step, then congratulations, you've saved a bunch of money on phone insurance! If your device isn't turning on at this step, and it was turning on beforehand, your battery isn't all the way touching the contacts, or you've disconnected a flex cable. Check for both of those things. If its not either, then you've probably broken your device when you opened it, which isn't my fault. If you're still at a boot loop, try some more spraying and repeat the steps. If you've done this a couple times, and it's still boot looping, continue to method 2, or go on to step 3.
Method 2: Open your device how I explained in the last method. Get rubbing alcohol, and a Q-tip or a toothpick. Dip your applicator into the alcohol, and apply generously to the white button where the power button overlays and surrounding areas. Let it air-dry, or blow it all out, then take your battery, and hold it in the position it would be in your device, parallel with the rest of your phone, and touching the contacts. Once you're holding the battery securely to the contacts with one hand, take a pen or your fingernail and press the small white button with the other hand. Does it turn on, and if so, does it get past the boot loop? If it doesn't turn on after this method, and it was turning on prior, check to see if the battery is all the way in, and check if you disconnected any flex cables when you opened your device. If its not those two things, you've probably broken your device when you opened it, good job. If you got past the boot loop. congratz, you never had a bricked device. I made the same misinterpretation. If it's still boot looping, try this method 2 or 3 more times before continuing.
IF NEITHER OF THE TWO METHODS FOR STUCK POWER BUTTON WORKED, YOUR DEVICE IS PROBABLY BRICKED. MOVE ON TO STEP 3.
STEP 3: Step 3 is just about where I bid you ado. You have a bricked device, and I'm quite sorry for your loss. You have a couple of options at this point.
OPTION A: SEE IF YOU CAN GET YOUR DEVICE IN DOWNLOAD MODE. If you can't get it in download mode, then I'm sorry. If you got it in download mode, YOU MIGHT BE SAVED. I couldn't keep mine in download mode for more than 2 seconds. Once she's in download mode, start up Odin, and boot your stock ROM. NOT CYANOGEN, NOT A CUSTOM ROM, get your stock ROM on the phone ASAP. If you can't get this option to work, move on to the next options.
OPTION B: Take your phone to [insert service provider here] and check if she's under warranty. You better hope, since the other options aren't very bright/cheap. If she's not under warranty, or they're gonna charge you over 100 dollars to replace her, then try some other options.
OPTION C: Get the USB dongle. It'll be your lord and savior if it keeps your device in download mode. Purchase one of these either way, they're dirt cheap and useful as hell. Once she's in download mode through the dongle, connect to your PC, start up Odin, and BOOT YOUR STOCK ROM. NO CUSTOM ROMS. Google your device's stock ROM, download and install it. If the dongle did you no good, then go to option D.
OPTION D: JTAG device wipe. That doesn't even sound healthy, does it? Think of it as open heart surgery for your device, but its a lot safer. Go to bricked my phone . com (I can't post links) they will unbrick your device for a short fee, and it'll be good as new. These are just about your only options. I went to multiple phone repair stores and they denied me service based on the fact they thought my phone was bricked, and mine wasn't even bricked. Get it JTAG unbricked, and you're good to go.
If this guide helped you in any way, there's no need to thank me. Thank a good sum of the community for attracting me to this site, as well as not putting up a guide for unbricking SGH-i727, motivating me to do one. If your device was broken due to my guide, not my fault. You're either a noob at electronics, or you opened your device with a hammer and nails. Thank you xda community for everything you've helped me with device-wise, I'm returning the favor.
Or see vincom's stickies in the development forum.

good post but if you did search you could of found your answer, below is from from the q&a sticky
30) Q. my phone only vibrates, is it hard bricked
A. no, if it has any signs of life its not hardbricked, if you can get it into download mode and install stock firmware, howto HERE , if you cant it might be a sticky power button, read Q#32 and #33
31) Q. will a usb jig unbrick my skyrocket
A. no, only jtag repair will fix a hardbricked phone that has no signs of life, look HERE in the info section for a company
no signs of life(nsol)=hardbricked
32) Q. why does my phone bootloop every few seconds
A. could be a "sticky power button", read the next question and the info section in the 1STOP STICKY
33) Q. how do i test for a stuck "sticky" power button
A. test: remove then reinsert the battery and if the phone turns on by itself and then takes approx 10 sec's to turn off and vibrate then its for sure a power button problem, its stuck, goto the link in the previous answer for a possible fix

The issue being you said the info isn't out there we say otherwise. The guide is not the issue the issue is the level of disregard for the rules in the first place rule number 1 which is search. Had you followed you would have seen you are far from the first to brick nor are you the first to receive answers on the subject. I applaud the effort but again had you followed the rules from the start it never would have been necessary.
Edit: please remove any and all profanities from your posts or I will be forced to report as it is in violation of xda rules.
Edit2: this guide really only covers power button issues so your title is misleading. Also the dongle aka jig does not work for fixing anything on the skyrocket if it puts it in DL mode that means you could do it normally anyway without it. Also if you have access to DL mode its unlikely you will not have access to your recovery partition as such you could just flash a new ROM. Really about 90% of the info is power button stuff the other 10% is either incomplete or incorrect.

First, that comment you quoted want't directed at you. Second, I can appreciate your wanting to help but this info has been covered a lot. And, no offense, but that so called guide basically says:
Clean your power button. If that doesn't work I can't help you any further.
As far as everyone being a noob at some point you're right. It's how I came here for the first time a little over two years ago. I soft bricked my SGS 4G. I looked around the forums and found all the info I needed to fix it. I never posted a single question asking for help. Then I realized all the other things I could do and started to get involved. I still don't ask for help much. WHY? Because the answers are all already here.

Low Temperature when Charging

I know this is one of those beaten to a pulp topics, but i am curious about this situation.
I took my phone in to a private business and they were unable to repair it.
So, i am currently able to charge it by placing it on my warm laptop and topped off with a snuggle blanky Canadian toque. If that had failed i do have genuine Saskatchewan seal skin bindings.
Am i doing the device harm is what i really want to know. It'll charge, and the battery performs very well. It mostly bothers me that i cannot use the toque during charging.
But as asked earlier, is this a bad idea?

That's what i figured. I'm not replacing the motherboard or really going to do anything that costs a lot. I'll just use it as such until i'm offered a new phone in a couple months. I will then probably donate it to someone on XDA. But i doubt anyone would bother without access to my laptop and mysterious toque method.
